‘BEST DRESSED’ of 2012

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on January 8, 2013

‘Indian Fashion Police’ brings in the new year with the most stylish & well dressed celebrities wwhom we have seen over the past year. Our picks for the year 2012 are based on the numerous times these celebrities have looked fabulous on the red carpet.

Deepika Padukone

DPK2

Deepika had me surprised this year with her style choices especially post her ‘Cocktail’ movie success. Loved her looks in the movie as well on the red carpet where she experimented with her looks even more. The choices of designer gowns and sarees have  made IFP sit up & take a good look at her. Deepika has transformed from a girl to a demure woman……………IFP had to undoubtedly put her on this list. Her casuals had denims teamed with sexy lace tops styled with a purse & bangles while bold gowns & sarees flattered her figure on the red carpet.

Hrithik Roshan

Hrithik

Even though we did not have many red carpet appearances but Hrithik still wooed us as he walked at Marrakech Film Festival in black Tuxedo & sleek hairstyle alongside wife Suzzane. He put in that extra effort to look good be in his clothes, his hair or his clean shaven face. That is why Hrithik makes it to IFP’s list of ‘Best Dressed’.

Sridevi

Sridevi 4

She came back and stunned us yet again just to make us realize how much we missed the actor ‘Sridevi’. Her acting skills are uncomparable but it was her dressing style which made me smile every single time she walked the red carpet. Her saree choices from Manish Malhotra & Sabyasachi were beautiful so were her western attires. She complimented each look with alluring jewellery, a clutch & hairstyle which completed her look and made her look ever  more elegant.

Kareena Kapoor

Kareena

The year 2012 was indeed a blessing for Kareena Kapoor on both personal & professional front. But this year also saw her explore new wardrobe choices. The gal who was mostly seen in Manish Malhotra outfits on the red carpet, made way for designers gowns, dresses & jumpsuits…………something which we have been longing to see Kareena in. Her make-up is always flawless, her hair are superbly styled, her nails well-manicured and her outfits are to die for. Do we need to give anymore reasons as to why Kareena Kapoor makes it to this list?

Mini Mathur

Mini

Mini Mathur might not be the Bollywood’s leading ladies but she sure stands out whenever seen at any red carpet event…………the reason : her choice of silk sarees which she wore with sheer elegance. On someone else the saree would have fallen flat, but on Mini the sarees looked fabulous especially when she paired them with stone jewellery & a batua bag.

Arjun Rampal

Arjun

Bandhgala paired with Jodhpuri pants on the red carpet of Cannes Film Festival seems like a tricky choice, but our very own Arjun Rampal carried off effortlessly. Arjun is one of the few actors who rocks the red carpet in any thing that he wears plus he has evolved in his looks as he has ages gracefully. Arjun & his wife Meher made us red carpet proud at this year’s Cannes when they both walked in wearing a Rohit Bal & Tarun Tahiliani outfits. Neat, sophisticated and ever evolving…………that’s what makes Arjun stand out in our list.

Karisma Kapoor

Karisma2

Polished, sophisticated, sexy, elegant, all combined in one is how I describe Karisma Kapoor’s style. Even though these days she is seen wearing black or pastels, she manages to grab eyeballs with her subtle style.  This mother of two has groomed her younger sister Kareena to stardom and has maintained herself as a ‘Diva’. Karisma makes it to this list too along with Kareena – both sisters are the offical muse of the eminent designer Manish Malhotra.

Kalki Koechlin

Kalki3

Kalki is the surprise entrant on the red carpet who started off looking like a ‘girl next door’ but has morphed herself to a ‘celebrity’ with amazing style sense. Why she makes it to IFP’s list is because of her quirky, unusal options which she wears to the red carpet. She is refreshingly different from the rest of the celebrities and stands on her own. A celebrity who can wear a hairband with an Indian outfit & still manage to walk off with an ease…………..which is what Kalki did at this year’s Cannes.

Event Update : First Look of ‘Heroine’

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on July 26, 2012

The first look of ‘Heroine’ is out and I can hardly wait for Kareena Kapoor’s upcoming flick. I am sure the lady would be looking perfect in every frame and it would be worth seeing the ‘Demure’ Kapoor  in action. Director Madhur Bhandarkar along with Kareena Kapoor & Arjun Rampal released the first look at Cinemax Theatre in Mumbai.

Kareena Kapoor stepped out for this event in a gorgeous, red hot ‘Emanuel Ungaro’ jumpsuit which was accessorized  with a belt, cuff and golden open toes. IFP says ‘Wowww!!’ to her look and look forward to more fabulous looks in the movie also.

Check out the trailer of ‘Heroine’ at the UTV – YouTube link here : http://www.youtube.com/user/UTVMotionPictures?feature=watch

Cannes Film Festival 2012 – Finale

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on May 28, 2012

At the end of Cannes this year, IFP has been surprised by unexpected red carpet appearances…………..many new Indian celebs walking at this  event have made an impression fashionwise. So for the finally we finally got to see Sonam Kapoor on the red carpet………….was she able to take our breath away………let’s find out………

For the finale Sonam had opted for Alexander McQueen outfit that had left us with one question………………Why did she ever choose this outfit for the most prestigious red carpet event of the year???? She had Dior, Chanel, Naeem Khan, Valentino and so many other designers to select couture from but why this???

It’s not that we don’t like the gown but it does nothing to this brilliant fashionista……………the only saving grace is her hair & make-up. I wish Sonam would have opted for a structured gown that would do justice to her frame. This one is surely a forgettable look………..need more glamour factor.

Sonam Kapoor also made an appearance in a velvet ‘Dolce & Gabbana’ dress which was styled in a very vintage manner for the finale dinner. The hairband, the long earrings, all made the look classy. IFP likes it for sure……….this look was adventurous and better than her day look.

IFP also caught a Cannes look at Arjun Rampal & missus Mehr Jessia. Arjun looked absolutely like a prince in Rohit Bal’s Jodhpuri pants & jacket attire, but it was Mehr Jessia who stole the look in beautiful Tarun Tahiliani. As a couple IFP adores their red carpet ready look.

‘Abu-Sandeep’ the label celebrates 25 Years

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on November 9, 2011

Renowned designers Abu Jani & Sandeep Khosla celebrated 25 years in fashion business in Mumbai where many celebreties were invited. The designer duo associated this big event with ‘Moet & Chandon’ and the party took place at Grand Hyatt, Mumbai. Here is a look at who attended this big event:

Mum-to-be Aishwarya Rai Bachchan suprised everyone by making an appearance at this event along with hubby Abhishek. She glowed in a Black & Golden outfit by Abu-Sandeep and marked a perfect 10 with flat joothis in the same combination. Abhishek on the other hand needs to ditch the leather jacket look where he is neither formal nor sporty. A clash between the 2 looks spells disaster on the red carpet……….Abhishek we love you more in a formal look, sporty look is just not for you.

Dimple Kapadia and daughter Twinkle Khanna also dazzled the red carpet  in their respective Abu-Sandeep outfits. Both of them have been muses for Abu-Sandeep and loved fabulous in this off-white ensembles.

Kudos to Twinkle for adding a ‘pop of color’ via her ‘Bottega Veneta’ clutch and Jewelry……………she did rock the red carpet.

Is someone trying hard to get attention of the shutter-bugs??? Well Sonali definitely got our attention when she posed in this mis-match saree outfit. The detail work on the blouse is beautiful but when combined with this saree made way for red carpet disaster. Not liking the look where the hair is a mess, the saree pallu is draped just for the heck of it……………..as for the Shristhi Behl and Ali Zafar they seemed to have a good time at the party….:-)

Sussane Roshan attended the event D & G lace dress which was unfortunately paired with wrong shoes & clutch. The nude peep toes and the huge clutch seemed out-of-place and made the look feel more bulky. Since the simple lace dress calls for more drama, Sussane could have paired this outfit with a glitter clutch and shoes in black.

As elegant as Kirron Kher is, at this event she looked a bit in a hurry with the hair & jewelry totally out of place. May be it was a bad hair day for Ms. Kher who is usually dressed in the most classic way. Still like her choices of saree and the way she carries them……….sigh.

Here is someone with ’18 till I die’ spirit…………….Queenie Singh has the body women of her age would envy but unfortunately her choice of teeny-tiny outfits makes her a fashion disaster. The element of grace is missing in her styling…………….Queenie needs to dress in a more elegant manner if she needs to make a fashion statement.

Making a rare appearance on the red carpet was Sangeeta Bijlani in a black lycra fit top and a sarong………….wait is that a SARONG on the red carpet…………….there you have another fashion disaster. The see through effect caused by the camera lights and the sarong which is better off for pool parties do make Sangeeta guilty of bad fashion choice. Such a pretty face…………..such bad styling….sigh

Arjun Rampal and Mehr Jessia came in hand-in-hand at this party where Mehr wore ‘Herve Leger’ bandage dress in peach while Arjun kept it simple in a blazer. Mehr had me on the color simple she either opts for black or white. This color choice is a pleasant surpise……..Love this appearance by her where the dress obviously takes all the attention and the accessories are kept simple.

RA.One premieres in London

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 26, 2011

RA.One arrived at London as well with King Khan and his team walking down the red carpet for the premiere of the movie. It is the first Bollywood movie to be released overseas in 3D. Now that is an achievement in itself. No matter what critics might say, I feel people should go ahead and watch every movie. Thereafter you be the judge about the film, since there is alot of hardwork and effort put behind any movie. For now enjoy the photos of the London premiere.

Shahana wore a pink one shoulder gown in which the drape of the gown fell flat, but neck up I feel Shahana looked very pretty with those dangling traditional earrings and side swept hair. Though I did like her look at the RA.One Dubai premiere much more than this one. Will wait for the Toronto premiere to see her walk the red carpet once again.

Shahrukh Khan added a muffler this time around to his tuxedo which gave a very mature vibe, wish he would have walked the red carpet in a bandhgala or Jodhpuri jacket. This look has been seen so many times till now……………..need to see something new.

Kareena Kapoor all dressed up in a black D&G gown though the big bow was an eyesore, but that is just me. Kareena did look sexy in this outfit and this is quite a change from her saree clad looks which one gets to see her at most events. Like it……absolutely.

Arjun Rampal has been my favorite celeb who will make it to the list of best dressed celebs. A formal suit and a clean shave look works for me, what about you??

Ra.One finally releases on Diwali day but King Khan held the premiere at Grand Cineplex in Dubai. Kareena Kapoor, Arjun Rampal, Shahana Goswami along with child actor Armaan Verma & the crew walked the red carpet at this event. Here is your look at the star studded event…………I am all eyes for Kareena Kapoor’s saree designed by Manish Malhotra.

Synergy One Delhi Couture Week 2011 – Day 4

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on July 26, 2011

The gala affair comes to an end……………just when I was starting to enjoy every bit of it…………….one got to see an array of inspiration in the work of these designers………….paintings, places, glamour, dreams, style………every bit was fabulous. Who says we don’t have talent in India???? Show them the way to Fashion weeks……..I hope then they would zip up their mouth.

Day 4 had eminent designers Rohit Bal and Gaurav Gupta displaying their finest work till date.

Rohit Bal

Love, love, love the intrinsic detail work  in Rohit’s creations………..the menswear was refreshingly different with achkans, jackets in golden, beige, maroons, purple, red and black. The peacock motif along with floral details took the centre stage in this collection………..it seemed very much inspired by the beautiful gardens of Indian palaces. Arjun Rampal was the ‘show-stopper’ and boy he sure made that evident by wearing the ‘Show Stopper’ T-shirt on the ramp. Overall this collection was less glamorous than his earlier collection which he had presented last year, but this one was definitely wearable with a touch of elegance.

GQ India Best Dressed Men 2011

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on June 14, 2011

GQ India has just come out with the list of ‘Best Dressed Men 2011’ in it’s recent issue and also held a party at Hyatt. Let’s see if the men on the list are actually ‘Best Dressed’ or not………

Ranbir Kapoor & Prateik

Seen here are the upcoming actors striking a pose with Che Kurrien, Editor of GQ…………….both of them have been voted as the Best Dressed Men for the year 2011………..While I do agree with GQ picking up Ranbir Kapoor as ‘Best Dressed’, Prateik is definitely far from being it. Anyways blazers over denim is a look I don’t dig that much…………plus with folded hems of the pants & rolled up blazer sleeves, he looks more of a ‘Street walker’ to me than a Celebrity. Ranbir too is wearing the similar ensemble, but he can absolutely carry it off………..Agree with Ranbir Kapoor as GQ’s choice but Prateik still has a long way to go with his dressing.

Karan Johar

KJo was also voted the ‘Best Dressed’ this year, and I am all for this choice of GQ magazine. Never has he come dressed in an unflattering manner………………..always dressed like a Gentleman, he sure gets my thumbs up when I see him at red carpet events wearing the fitted suits designed by him & Varun Bahl. The hair is perfect, the shoes are perfect, the face is clean shaved…….now all we have to work on is the walk……….. 😉 ………………jokes apart, he indeed deserves to be in this list.

Rahul Khanna

With those drool worthy looks, Rahul Khanna too made to the list of GQ India’s ‘Best Dressed Men 2011’………….though Rahul is seen here wearing a tuxedo with a silver bow tie, white pants which I am no fan of…………….he still rocks. I think more than his dressing style,it is definitely his cool attitude and those cute looks which makes him look good in any damn thing. GQ………we totally agree on this celebrity.

Siddhartha Mallya

Siddhartha Mallya who has been seen on social events quite frequently since the past one year, has also made to the list of GQ India’s ‘Best Dressed’…………….I must say that he has a very flamboyant style of dressing but there is still a bit of maturity missing from his looks………I wish to see him in a more ‘Indianized Avatar’ at certain events than in his usual style of Hollywood wannabe………….One this choice I am not on the same page as GQ.

Rahul Bose

This pint size actor always makes his presence felt in any event that he attends……………he might not be the one to make people take notice of his dressing style, but his attitude speaks volume. Though I would vote for him as ‘talent powerhouse’ but ‘Best Dressed’???I am still in the middle of ‘ya’ versus ‘nay’ especially seeing him dressed in all white for the event………….GQ India picks him as one of the ‘Best Dressed’………me, I will let this one pass……….

Also present at the event were………..

Also seen at the event were Arjun Rampal along with wife Mehr Jessia, Nandita Mahtani, Sussane Roshan and Abhishek Kapoor. The ladies were dressed in white which seemed like they were following a dress code specified for the event. Nonetheless they all looked elegant while Arjun who made it to the best dressed list seemed a bit sleepy here……….I agree with GQ on Arjun as ‘Best Dressed’ but hate the fact that he at times forgets to have a clean shave look which we women adore on him. His crisp suits and effortless style have made him a red carpet ‘must see’…………….hope he listens to my wish and comes clean next time.

Queenie Dhody and Farhad Taraporvala also attended the party hosted by GQ magazine. Queenie came in dressed in an orange dress which reminded me of sherbet………………..bronze shoes and a golden clutch to complete the look. I have observed that Queenie often opts for short dresses but most of the times they fail to compliment for fab figure……….this time though she does look fabulous. My style wish for her would be to see her in gowns especially a one shoulder type…I am sure she would look absolutely amazing in those.

Isha Gupta and Sarah Jane Dias were also seen at the event…………..I like Isha’s look with those loose curl tresses but not liking Sarah’s look since it is hard for me to focus on the blue highlight on her dress or her hairdo………don’t know which one is worse. But since the night belonged to the lovely guys, let’s leave this here……..

Red Carpet Review – Zee Cine Awards 2011

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on January 16, 2011

Zee Cine awards was one of the biggest Bollywood award ceremony which was held outside of India. The venue for the event was the plush new Marina Bay in Singapore. There were the whose who of Bollywood. So let’s glance at who won our hearts in the fashion department and who needed a desperate make-over from a stylist before stepping on the red carpet. Here is my review of the red carpet of the Zee Cine Awards 2011.

Deepika Padukone

Let me start the review with the young ‘new’ lot of the industry in short with Deepika who was dressed in a one shoulder silver gown that had a fashionable knot on the waist. Though I like the gown a lot and since the many past appearances of Deepika’s, I feel this is a step towards good style sense. But somehow hate the shoes and the clutch. Witha gown like that, a pop of colour was very much desired here. I wish Deepika would have opted for strappy sexy heels in silver and grey with black Judith Leiber clutch. I am sure that would have given this outfit a whole new dimension. Nonetheless, love the bold gown since suits Deepika’s frame amazingly. My verdict : One thumbs up for the gown.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan should ideally be the ‘Queen of International Red Carpet’ sinceI seldom see her messing up with her looks on the International platform. This one too is no exception, since Mrs. Bachchan is currently going thru with the ‘Manish Malhotra’ phase and this outfit by far looks very elegant. The velvet trimmings are very subtle on the rich golden brown colour fo the outfit.Plus the detail work  on the net silhouette is to die for. Plus minimal jewellery is the way to go. My Verdict : Absolutely Love it…………

Hrithik Roshan with wife Suzzane

The celebrity couple was dressed to kill in black but unfortunately too much of black killed the ‘look’ that could have been. Seriously I have seen Hrithik in that suit with the slim tie a numerous times and I need to see something new on him. Maybe same suit no tie or a different tie would have worked better. As for Suzzane, the black gown without any ‘bling’ is too boring. Some jewellery courtesy sister Farah would have helped a lot. My verdict : Way too simple and boring, need some glitter.

Sonakshi Sinha

Oh oh…….Where is the beautiful girl whom I had seen in ‘Dabangg’ gone and who has draped that lovely girl in that ‘curtain’ print ensemble………………..tsk, tsk,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,pity I’d say. I do agree this was the very first international platform that Sonakshi was making her appearance but this outfit was not what a ‘fresh’ face like hers was expected to wear. I wish she would have gone for something more glamorous in a saree like a sequin detail work on chiffon plus traditional jewellery. This outfit does not at all emphasize her pretty face and true assets her eyes. As an actress I do like her a lot and know that she has potential to make it big. My Verdict : Need more fresh and younger look for this pretty lady.

Rishi And Neetu Kapoor

Our favourite yester year star couple still make my heart go ‘Awww’ whenever I see them dressed to perfection on the red carpet. Neetu Kapoor as elegant as ever dressed in a beige anarkali with those ‘ooh la la’ Ruby & diamond earrings looks like a ‘Diva’. Mrs. Kapoor can I please borrow those lovely earrings for a day……………….:-) Mr. Kapoor Sr. took some effort this time to be dressed in a grey suit just wish he had not worn the tag card beneath his tie.My verdict : Lovely pair who ooze loads of ‘Kapoor’ Royalty……………….two thumbs up for them.

Arjun Rampal and Mehr Jessia

Arjun And Mehr Jessia also walked in wearing black but thankfully they were not boring. After a long time, I get to see both dressed appropriately with Arjun wearing a Shahab Durazi creation while Mehr went for a Monisha Jaising creation. Glamorous, smart and perfect for the occasion. Mehr did full justice to that dress given the amazing bod and looks she has. My Verdict : Two thumbs up for the lovely couple who look good together.

Prachi Desai

Prachi Desai choosed this maroon Gauri & Nainika outfit but happened to mess  it up with lack of accessories on this plain ensemble that screamed for some glamour. With those pretty looks, Prachi could have won every fashionista’s heart with a pair of chandelier earrings in diamonds plus a cuff, a fashionable clutch and glitzy shoes. Though these shoes equally do the job well………………the hair could have been tied up in a high set pony with the collar bones getting all the attention. If you have it flaunt it honey…………….why hide it and make it look like plain disastor. My Verdict:More experiment required here. Have fun while you are still young.

Neha Dhupia

Neha Dhupia was looking all glamed up like a doll for the event and must say that the lady is more surprising on the red carpet than on the screen. I am not fond on the frills on a gown unless it is a knee length dress but here they seem to give a slimmed down effect for Neha. Hair pulled back, jewels blinging bright and the dress fit to perfection works for me. My Verdict : Pretty, pretty and pretty.

HDIL India Couture Week 2010 – Day 5

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 11, 2010

Arjun Khanna

Guess which Bollywood cutie made his way on the ramp at HDIL India Couture Week 2010???? I was happy to see Abhay Deol all dressed up as a cowboy rearing to go………..the only hitch here hat there was no horse available for him at couture week……..hee hee. Nonetheless, Abhay walked the ramp as show stopper for designer Arjun Khanna’s menswear collection which Arjun showcased at HDIL India Couture Week. While Abhya looked cute, can’t say the same for the rest of Arjun’s collection. I found some pieces a bit too dramatic…………imagine a guy wearing a purple velvet blazer and entering a party. I would never go near that fellow unless he was Hrithik Roshan……….call me old-fashioned but the velvet blazers were too much in name of fashion. Though the blazers in brown, grey blazer with velvet vest work for me and the bandhgalas were also commendable………..on the whole this collection was a mixed bag for me. Neither too great nor too bad is what I can say………

Shahab Durazi

Shahab Durazi’s collection was seen after many years and I am glad that he has not lost his elegant touch. Despite being away for the glare, I feel he is one of the few designers who knows his work well. Arjun Rampal looked more like a model the way he did way back many years, in this Shahab Durazi outfit which he wore as a show stopper. The collection was primarily for women, included skirts, blazers, gowns, flared pants and many more. The colours used in the designs were muted and very much suitable for the upcoming winter season. There were also beautiful red gowns seen in this collection which were perfect for any red carpet event. My verdict : Loved the clothes which had a very international feel to it, yet were very fashionable & wearable.

Rina Dhaka

Rina Dhaka showcased her latest collection on Day 4 with Anushka Sharma walking as show stopper for her. Day 4 has been dedicated to ‘Being Human’ charity cause hence I am featuring Rina Dhaka’s collection for day 5. The collection consisted of sarees, kurtis, pants, cocktail dresses, skirts………..the title of the collection was ‘Entanglement’ but I could see that in designs as well…………….few sarees were beautiful but the rest of the clothes were a bit dated. My verdict : Not a big fan on this collection.

HDIL Couture Week 2010 Bash

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 6, 2010

Another couture week is here but in my opinion I feel we should limit ourselves to a maximum of 2 couture week per year that showcase all designers………………why do we need so many couture week where one gets to see the same designs, the same designers and of course the same celebrities again………………have we become addicted to couture weeks???? Do we love fashion so much that the sense is going out the window???? I often ask myself these questions but for the sake of fashion, I am ready to let go of this Q & A session in my mind………..

The HDIL couture Week 2010 started with a bash held at Grand Hyatt.

Shahrukh & Gauri Khan along with Rani Mukherjee

Shahrukh Khan with lady love Gauri an friend Rani Mukherjee posed for the cameras………..Shahrukh dressed in a brown shirt and black trousers looked quite ready to party the night, Gauri in a beautiful red Valentino and Rani in a short aquamarine dress designed by a Greek designer…………….all three looked good on the red carpet especially Rani since the outfit fits the bill for her petite frame. As for Mrs. Khan, I would have opted for a shimmer black or grey clutch plus shoes……………..Shahrukh was at an ease when it came to dressing up, but hey it is just a bash………….

Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone who is our Style Star for the month, wore a satin beige one shoulder top with black fitted skirt and satin heels with rosette on them……………..on the whole I am not digging the look because of the shoes and the lack of glamour in her look. It gives vibe that one is trying to minimize the sexiness quotient in this outfit by adopting a ‘girl next door’ make-up & hair. I would have prefered if the top would have extended hemlines till knees and acted as a short cocktail dress…………Plus those shoes just don’t gel that well……………..though love the one shoulder top along with the crystal clutch……………..but a beautiful soul like Deepika needs to look glamorous by adding the accessories.

Raj Kundar & Shilpa Shetty

Shilpa Shetty also made an appearance with hubby Raj Kundra in tow but I have to say………….why does Raj always have that messy look on his face??? With such a fabulous looking ‘biwi’ as arm candy, he should dress to the core complete with good personal grooming. I feel that he should either go in for a beard or no beard…………….the style ‘in between’ does not suit him at all. Whereas I have no complaints about Shilpa………………she looks perfect in her Little black dress with gold trimmings and loooooooooooooovvvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeee those shoes. Must say that combining black and golden in western wear is not easy and Shilpa knows how to do justice to it……………Mr. Kundra would expect you to clean up next time.

Karisma Kapoor

I can’t get enough of this ‘Diva’………………….there have been no instances till date that this fabulous ‘momma of two’ has ever dressed up shabbily. Not a hair is out of place whenever she is on the red carpet……………….in this outfit, I simply adore her look in a little black dress with hoopla earrings adding a dash of glitz to the look while keeping the clutch and shoes simple. The key to achieve her look is to let one piece get all the attention while other pieces act as a background. Simple yet ‘oh so classic’……………….I don’t mind declaring that she is one of the most well dressed women of our country.

Queenie Dhody

“The animal, the animal instinct in me…………….” that’s just a long lost song which I happen to remember looking at Queenie. Her favourite animal prints are doing a lot of appearances on the red carpet, unfortunately none of them work. The dress combined with golden jewellery, belt and the animal print shoes are overwhelming and absolutely not age appropriate…………….I would rather see a 20 year old young lady wear this outfit than Queenie……………as I said in my earlier posts, animal print in 40s works better if used in small amounts. This dress would have worked better if it was in a plain dark colour with alluring pair of heels.

Malaika Arora Khan & Arbaaz Khan

Malaika & Arbaaz came in as a pair wearing nautical stripes……………but the matchy-matchy is just getting to me. Arbaaz’s torn denims are definitely a red carpet no-no please paired with those formal mocassins……………..sheer disaster. Neither do Malaika’s leather pantlook and the heels paired with Louis Vuitton clutch don’t do much for her look. My say is this look is OK if you are going for dinner out with family or buddies………………but for a couture week bash………….please dress up a bit eventful.

Manish Malhotra, Urmila Matondkar and Sophie Choudhary

Did Urmila make a dress out of a silk scarf????? Looking at her dress I feel that she just did that……………..and those shoes………..kill me someone but they have spoilt the entire look. People firstly leave the animal print alone, secondly I would have liked it a bit if the shoes were strappy heels or open toe pumps. Why do ourbollywood women have that affinity with flowers on their feet. Manish Malhotra seems like he has had a very tiring day and just came to the party to get a break. While Sophie looks ready to pary in her short printed dress with Bottega Veneta clutch and black basic heels. Out of the three, Sophie definitely wins my vote for keeping in simple yet party right.

Gayatri Oberoi, Sonali Bendre and Goldie Bhel

Gayatri Oberoi poses here with Sonali Bendre and her hubby Goldie Bhel……………..Gayatri looks ultra glam in the Herve Leger bandage blue dress pairing it with Judith Leiber clutch and golden heels. While Sonali kept it simplein a little black dress and bronze heels while Goldie who also kept it simple,  is enjoying his moment with the lovely ladies. My favourite out of the three has to be Gayatri for looking ‘Oh la la’ in that dress of hers.

Raveena Tandon

Raveena Tandon was sighted after a loooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnggggggg time wearing black on black. Where is the glitter??? The all black attire is now getting to me……………Raveena could have worn a beautiful pendant or earrings or even jazzy belt with funky shoes. But a beautiful woman like Raveena, this look is not doing any wonders for her.

Bhavna and Chunky Pandey

Bhavna and Chunky walked in where Bhavna was wearing a pretty navy blue strapless dress with a stylish belt, while Chunky is more in a very casual avatar in denims and a white shirt. But somehow I am digging his yellow mocassins which adds the much desired pop of colour to the outfit. It is unusual choice but works well on Chucky’s look. On the whole, the couple looking good together.

Arjun & Mehr Rampal

Mr & Mrs. Rampal camein hand in hand where Mehr wore a Malini Ramani kaftan one shoulder outfit and Arjun was in his casual avatar. Thankfully Mehr added that much needed colour to her style but would have preferred this outfit in a shorter version. With that hot bod, why hide it under loose clothes when you can show them off with elegance. Arjun seems to have just got out of bed and onto the red carpet……………….Wake up Arjun…………….its time to party.

GQ India Mens Award 2010 – Red Carpet Review

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on September 28, 2010

GQ Mens Award event was full of glamour quotient which is what makes this blog tick………….I love to see our very own Indian celebrities on the Red Carpet, where they all are dressed up to rock the fashion world. This time around Indian GQ Mens Award had Hollywood presence as well with the legendary John Travolta who is visiting India currently, posed for the shutterbugs. Let’s kick off with who wore what at this event……….

Abhishek & Aishwarya Bachchan

Abhishek and wifey Aishwarya have been voted as the most powerful celebrity couple in Asia by E! News Asia, I am a believer since no red carpet event is complete without the cosy twosome. Abhishek Bachchan wore a three piece black suit with a red tie to add that pop of colour…………………..no complaints about him since he is looking absolutely dressed for occassion and very much like a gentleman. Whereas I felt Aishwarya’s gown to be a bit dull……..the grey colour though was gorgeous but the bodice part is where things went wrong. The neckline cut in steps and the glitter part did not do much on the glamour part of this gown plus with the hair swept to one side………….I am not a fan. My advice to Aishwarya is that she is one of very few women in India to carry off glamorous outfit with an ease so please don’t be too simple.

Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan who was dressed in a Tuxedo also rocked the red carpet scene and was on a high with the Peepli Live selected for the Oscars from Indian Cinema………………this time around I wish his moviewould get the international accolade since I honestly believe he is one of the few Indian who uses his celebrity status for the betterment of our country. Coming back to his red carpet style, I like the fact that he went all formal for the occassion but feel the seams of his pants were too tight when worn with those shoes. Maybe it is just me????? But on the whole I am all for this avatar of Aaamir with hair neatly styled, the one button tux are smart……………Mr. Perfectionist gets a thumbs up for me. Hope the young guns of Hollywood follow him when it comes to dressing up for the occassion.

Priyanka Chopra

The vivacious Priyanka Chopra was all glam in the beige strapless gown…………….though the shiny satin in that colour is something I would personally avoid but Priyanka is able to carry off with ease. Though many fashionistas hated this look, I say it is glamorous, sexy and the colour is doing good on Priyanka’s complexion. So I am for it since I feel this woman oozes loads of sex appeal and has a great body so why not flaunt it. Go Pri………….Love this look. Priyanka won the ‘Woman of the Year’ award too………..

Abhay Deol and Preeti Desai

Abhay Deol seems to be inspired by Boy george’s early 1980s look…………………I like his individualistic sense of style but the shiny shoes with the loose tie and the fitted pants that don’t match his blazer…………..style wise it is not how I would have dressed up for a GQ magazine Mens Award……………..this style would have worked for MTV music awards but not here. Sorry Abhay, you are an amazing actor but this get up is just not for me. Funnily Preeti Desai looked all dressed for the occasion in the Little Black dress, ruby red lips and those killer heels. For sure this lady has a sense of style and knows it is always better to emphasize on one thing only when you are on the red carpet.

 Ranbir Kapoor

The Youngistaan heartrob Ranbir Kapoor was all dressed up in a Tuxedo which could have been fitted better since the suit seems loose at the waistline, the sleeves were too long and the bow tie was a bit limp. But what I wish Ranbir had shaved off and looked neat since one needs to put a handsome face on in those tux. So please tidy up next time around when you are all dressed up and show off your good looks to the world.

Dino Morea & Nandita Mahtani

Dino Morea might not be a big star in Bollywood but when it comes to style, he sure knows what looks good on him. I like his no tie, no bow look since he has kept it simple in a black suit and a white shirt with black piping on the button section. The outfit is neat and right for the event…………………whereas Nandita whose dress I simply love, made the wrong shoe choice. The animal print would have looked better on black, browns or beige but not on this blue. The one shoulder dress with detail work on the shoulder is beautiful but the shoes destroyed the look. I would have preferred a matt gold strappy shoes that match her clutch as well.

Arjun Rampal & Mehr Jessia

Mehr And Arjun both dressed in black was too much for me this time………………Of course Arjun looked pretty decent except for his tie which I felt was not required and the collar was unable to hide the tie.  Rest nocomplaints about his suit but I expect Mehr to wear more colour on the red carpet. She has am amazing body, alluring heigth, beautiful features……………..so what is stopping her from wearing colour and look drop dead gorgeous on the red carpet. All black outfit with a ‘Chanel’ waist chain is doing no wonders here…………….

Chunky & Bhavna Pandey

Chunky Pandey who surprisingly looks quite dapper in this suit and a tie that matches his background well…………I like his look for the fact that he has kept his entire suit simple in one colour but added a pop of colour through his tie. While wife Bhavna looks quite mis-matched with the animal print clashing with the florals. I wish her outfit would have been of one print only……………either all floral or all animal print. Mixing both is not giving the desired ‘fabulous’ look……….thought the shoes and matching ‘Bottega’ clutch give an understated look and work well here.

Simone Singh

As lovely as Simone truly is, this jumpsuit is not for her………………..the greenish blue satin jumpsuit with hideous pockets on the side, the shimmer jacket accompanied are a recipe for disastor. The only thing I like about this attire is her ‘Tiffany’ key pendant which looks elegant even against that colour. I wish Simone would have skipped her jacket altogether, wrn the jumpsuit alone and accessoried with a stylish cuff and a pair of earrings complimenting her pendant. Plus my advice to all would be to avoid pairing golden and silver hues in a single outfit…………….make only one metallic tone work while you dress up.

Queenie Dhody

Socialite & Jewellery designer Queenie Dhody walked in with beau Farhad Taraporewala dressed in tiger print sequin studded gown…………………..my eyes went wide open looking at the mess. Honestly if a woman is over the age of 40, it is sbetter to use animal prints in subtle measures like on the rim of a dress or jacket, on handbags, in form of scarf, shoes…………..the key is to keep it minimal. This is too loud for Queenie……….the big black clutch, the old Hollywood style hair, the sequins…………..all of it is too much. I would love to see her in pastels with a hint of shimmer.

Sheetal Malhar

Did someone just go for a walk on the beach, lost her way and ended up on the red carpet of GQ India Mens Award???? I think that has to be Sheetal Malhar…………..unfortunately the dress, the pearl necklace and the shoes are pretty…………but not appropriate for the event. The leather bag is also to some extent a spoiler in this attire…….would have loved to see sheetal in a Grecian inspired gown instead of a short summer dress.

Parmeshwar Godrej

Yyyyyyeeeeeeeekkkkkksssss…………….that is my reaction seeing Parmeshwar Godrej in this ensemble……….all I can say is ‘What was she thinking???’ The black shiny leggings, the net bodice, the low cleavage, the boring stole, the shiny pumps, all might be big labels but they ain’t looking good here. My request to Ms. Godrej is to tone down a bit and stick to graceful vintage outfits which are plenty in market. A woman like her will look amazing in a ‘Chanel’ rather than this hideous dress.

Rahul Khanna

Rahul Khanna definitely looks suave in this attire………………..hands down he is looking polished, sophisticated and handsome. Need I say any more for Rahul who is dressed in a two button Tuxedo which has an excellent fit……..by far this is my favourite look for GQ Mens Award. Rahul also hosted the event for the evening.

Anusha Dandekar

Anusha Dandekar wore a very colourful sequin dress made by Shane & Falguni Peacock has hotch-potch designs like the peek-a-boo cleavage, the black hemline, shimmer all over reminds of the song ‘Shiny Disco Ball’. But Anusha still managed to look amazing in the dress……………..maybe body language can make a world of difference. The belt and the shoes get her out of the brink of being badly dressed and the side swept ponytail puts the focus on her face rather than the glittery dress. Still not a fan of the dress, but adore Anusha in it.

Rahul Bose

Good things come in small packages………….well that is what I can say after looking at Rahul Bose who looked perfect in a grey suit adorned with black buttons, silver tieand balck shoes. The fit is proper, the hair is sleek, the tie stands out well……….the actor has never looked better. I am loving his style……………..No one could have done grey better than Mr. Bose.

Where have the Indian Super Models gone????

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on July 15, 2010

The recent death of super model Viveka Babajee makes me wonder “Is it all hunky dory all the way for these super models?” …………………Looking at famous faces like Nafisa Joseph, Viveka Babajee, Kuljeet Randhawa who made it big but had tragic end to their life…………….. but there have also been survivors and successful people in this fashion world as well……………….some of them are worth mentioning here.

Milind Soman

Milind Soman might be the very first male super model to make it big in the Indian Fashion Scene. Women went crazy when he starred in Alisha Chinoy’s music video ‘Made in India’ and posed nude along side Madhu Sapre for the Tuff shoes advertisement. But Milind ruled the ramp for more than 2 decades. He entered as an actor in Indian teleserials and later went on to make his movie debut though did not attain much success. He has turned into a producer and few plans in his kitty. How so ever his movie career be, till date there has been no male model to match his successful modelling career. Maybe somethings are rare………………..Milind just proves to be one of them.

Madhu Sapre

Madhu Sapre came into limelight when she won Femina Miss India 1992 contest and became the 2nd runner up in Miss Universe contest the same year. She ruled the runway in India for an entire decade before giving it all up for a blissful married life. She is married to an Italian Gian Maria and now lives in Italy. Though she has walked the ramp as a show stopper numerous times post her marriage………….I still wish to see this gorgeous lady back on the runway.

Sheetal Mallar

Sheetal Mallar was the first model from India to be in the top 12 list of finalist at the Elite look of the year contest. She has done fashion shows around the globe and had even got married to Italian tennis player Moses Navarra………….but her final calling was always in her home country India where even today she continues to model and is the face of many leading brands. She is often seen on the runway these days but only for big labels.

Ujjwala Raut

The only sentence I can think of whenever I see Ujjwala Raut is ‘Been there, Done that’  —  fame, love, booze, success, addictions, money………..she was the girl from a middle class family in Mumbai but went on to be one of the top International Model from our country. She has walked the ramp and done photo-shoots for big labels like  Yves Saint-Laurent, Roberto Cavalli, Hugo Boss, Cynthia Rowley, Diane von Furstenberg, Dolce & Gabbana, Betsey Johnson, Gucci, Valentino, Oscar de la Renta, Emilio Pucci, Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show……………….ahhh the list is endless. She got married to fellow model Craig Maxwell and had a baby daughter but the couple as split and are currently in a custody battle due to which Ujjwala has been off the fashion scene.. She was on top of the modelling scene and I feel she can still rock the runway with her attitude if she decides to make a comeback.

Jesse Randhawa

She came into focus when she took part in Femina Miss India 1994……………..the same year where Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya Rai won the crown……………Jesse Randhawa was a finalist in the top 5 contestants. I remember sitting in front of the TV, seeing this confident lady and thinking……….”Where did get that weird haircut from?” WhatI failed to recognize was that this lady was surily ahead of her times and that is what came handy when she walked the ramp for all the top Indian designers. She still rocks the runway despite being a model for more than a decade and has oodles of experience in this bitchy modelling world. She was married to fellow model Inder Mohan but the couple split years back. She has recently tied a knot with well-known choreographer Sandip Soparkar after dating him for 5 years. The only thing that makes me wonder is why did she never take up International

Shivani Kapoor

She came, she conquered……………………….then she simply disappeared. One of the most sought after models in India, Shivani came into the modelling world as a 17-year-old new face of Lakme Cosmetics in India. She walked the ramp for many well-known designers during fashion week but then left India abruptly when the rumours of drug abuse and broken relationship surfaced in media. Some people say that the character of Kangana Ranaut in ‘Fashion’ was inspired by her life……………nonetheless this lady definitely had that charm to woo the entire fashion fraternity and I am sure her comeback will also be the most sought after things in the modelling world. She is currently back in London with her family.

Shyamoli Verma

Our very first super model who graced the face of Lakme cosmetics in the 1970s & 1980s and walked the ramp for deisgners like Rohit Khosla, JJ Valaya, Rohit Bal and Tarun Tahiliani. She also modelled for Pierre Cardin in Paris before coming back to India. She has had her share of ups and downs in life but today is happy being a mother to a teenage daughter. She resides in Pune and writes for Pune Mirror. Despite her age, she still has that grace which reflects from her beautiful face. As per my opinion……………..she should be back in Mumbai modelling again since her looks and figure can give even today’s young models a run for their money.

John Abraham

Who doesn’t know this dude??? This good boy with a bad boy attitude set the ramp on fire when he walked down for big designers. Of course films was the next thing on his mind where after initial struggle John managed to win big banners. He came into limelight after winning Gladrags Manhunt 1999, since then there has been no looking back for him.He has several movies under his belt and has also turned a producer for future ventures.

Noyonika Chatterjee

Looking at Noyonika, I always wonder ‘How is it possible to stay free of scandal and speculation in this bad, bad world???’ She ha truly set an example of being scandal free and still have a strong career till date. She still walks the ramp and organizes shows for leading brands and designers. She shuttles between Delhi where she lives with her family and Mumbai where her major work assignments are. Despite having a daughter, Noyonika is ‘The Body’ of India.

Arjun Rampal & Mehr Jesia

They are power couple of the fashion world and also the only one couple whose relationship has been going strong ever since. They met when they both were successful models……………..Arjun Rampal was dating designer Malini Ramani while Mehr was dating fellow model Rajeev Mulchandani…………….but destiny decided to bring these two talented people together. Mehr is Ex-Miss India who walked the ramp for I think all leading designers whereas Arjun was discovered by designer Rohit Bal and has worked for many designers.  The couple have surpassed the highs & lows in life………………….now enjoy being a celebrity. They have two daughters who I guess will create fireworks if they decide to enter the fashion world. The couple still walks the runway for designer friends during fashion week. They have successfully kept their relationship out of the media glare………………I think that is what makes them ‘Hot & Happening’. Arjun is one of the few models to make it big in bollywood and Mehr enjoys being by his side in whatever venture Arjun takes up.

Bipasha Basu

Bipasha Basu………………..she is the ‘It’ girl in Bollywood…………..but funnily this demure lady started out as a shy girl when she won Ford Godrej Cinthol Contest in 1996. She has walked the ramp, done advertisements and now is a leading actress……………..but has also had her share of scandals throughout her career. Despite the lows, Bipasha always comes back stronger. She has set an example that ‘dusky women are not just beautiful but hot as well’. This gorgeous lady has an equally gorgeous partner John Abraham.

Dino Morea

Dino Morea was the ‘Italian Hunk’ on the runway with his long locks of hair and killer looks………………….but somehow the looks could not create a lot of magic on the silver screen. Dino Morea walked the ramp with an attitude which I feel is lacking in today’s male models. He was the next big thing after Milind Soman and still walks for some designers. He has restaurant business with his elder brother…………………..I feel a handsome guy like him should train upcoming male models on how to carry off themselves on the ramp. And yes would love to see him more often on the runway than in movies.
