Anita Dongre Presents “Waves of Joy”

Summer/Resort 2012 collection

Bringing you “Waves of Joy”, Anita Dongre’s Summer/Resort Collection promises a delicious and vibrant summer to stylish gentlemen and gorgeous ladies. Starring vivacious colors styled in contemporary silhouettes, Anita Dongre pays tribute to Indian weaves with a chic stroll on the catwalk. Combining organic fair trade cotton with “boho-luxe” style, the collection titled “Waves of Joy” will be showcased at Lakme Fashion Week on Sunday, 4th March 2012 at 9:30 pm.

In keeping with the theme of the day at Lakme Fashion Week, Anita Dongre uses silk and cotton brocade weaves from Benaras, tie and dye from Rajasthan, gorgeous hand painted silks also from Jaipur, Ikats of Andhra Pradesh, and chikan kari from Lucknow, which are age-old techniques close to her heart. High on comfort and style code, “Waves of Joy” is a sensual line of graciously flowing gowns; maxi dresses; easy jackets; flowing palazzos; skirts and feminine lace blouses.

The mood of the collection is early-evening resort wear with feminine detailing and vivid hues. With a laid-back yet sophisticated look, the line flows from easy pastels to classic black and whites, to rich gold brocades. With a vibrant colour palette for summer, Anita Dongre has worked with sugary pastels featuring candy pink, bright lime, sea green, aqua blue and peach, to the sweet shades of soft greys and yellows.

The use of traditional crafts like chikan kari and gota patti embroidery on a contemporary collection ensure that our heritage crafts stay alive.

For the first time Anita Dongre shows her men’s wear line on the ramp. A selection of cool linen shirts in the delicious summer colours of pink, turquoise and lime, minimalist linen blazers in neutral colours, and trousers in burnt orange and yellow to name a few. Anita Dongre has put together this collection for the tasteful man who appreciates refined fabrics, clean cuts and impeccable fits.

Anita says, “This season, I have created contemporary styled pieces using traditional Indian textiles. There is a mix of closet staples combined with fashion statement pieces. Bringing out the feminine – edge has been the prime focus along with, of course, keeping the style quotient high. For this collection I picture a woman on a dreamy holiday with her man, whose taste is refined and subtle, going for romantic cocktails, looking very sexy and feminine in her selection from Anita Dongre Resort 2012.”

Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week 2012 – Grand Finale

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on February 20, 2012

New Collection, new designs that have been inspired by every walk of life. The Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week ended with a Grand Finale by designer JJ Valaya who simply mesmerizes with his work everytime it is presented on the runway. This time around there was an array of colors in the Valaya ‘Azrak’ collection that ranged from whites to golds to dark blues. The western outfits were done in lighter hues where as Indian wear had richer colors. The beautiful ‘Alika’ jackets which are my favorite, were teamed with sarees. JJ Valaya had Celebrities like Navin Ansal and designers like Suneet Varma, Rohit Bal take the ramp in his menswear collection. Bandhgalas, Jacket and Jodhpuris were designed in velvet, cotton, wool and gabardine with touch of monochromatic prints. Valaya never falls short of making a person feel like royalty which is how each of the celebs walking down the runway looked like. The collection was inspired by the ‘Ottoman’ era of Turkey and jewels were very ethnic India. Here is a look at JJ Valaya’s latest designs which is sure to sweep you off your feet.

Actress Kangana Ranaut graced the Grand Finale as show-stopper for designer JJ Valaya in a maroon velvet ‘Alika’ jacket looking every bit like royalty.

Rehane

Imagine combining khaki and pink colors to create a new outfit………..sounds tricky but that is what designer Rehane did for her latest collection. Silk, lace, cotton were used in khakhi color with pink detail work in a collection of tunics, short dresses, skirts, pants, top & jackets. IFP likes this collection for it’s simplicity and elegance, definitely better than Rehane’s previous collection showcased last year.

‘Mynah’ by Reynu Taandon

Designer Reynu Taandon surprised the audience with actor Govinda & his daughter Narmada walking in as show-stopper for her. This is the very first time Govinda is seen on the ramp but what made it special was the fact that he was accompanied by his daughter. Father-Duo looked good in Reynu’s creation. The collection mostly had black as the base with metallic colors & details used for the glam effect. Chiffons, cotton lycra, georgettes, leather were used in creating the outfits and the collection  was alot like ‘jungle meets the city’ since the tribal motifs, the stripes, cut-out leather spots were seen in many outfits. IFP does like the collection for it’s red carpet appeal.

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on February 18, 2012

I am getting to see many vibrant colors in many designer collection which is a nice change from the dull Fall colors which one usually gets to see in ‘Autumn/Winter’ outfits. Here is a look at the highlight of Day 3 at WLIFW. Manish Malhotra was one of the leading designers for Day 3. The Anarkali style were temamed with pants instead of churidhar time time around. Lighter shades were combined with darker hues which looked wonderful especially when pastels were paired with brighter shades like hot pinks. Here is your exclusive look at the collection:

Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week 2012 – Day 2

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on February 17, 2012

Day 2 of WLIFW saw actress Chitrangada Singh walk for designer Kanika Saluja Chaudhary & Anushka Manchanda for designer Raakesh Agarvwal. Here is your look at the pics from Day 2.

Our designer pick for Day 2 are……..

Nachiket Barve

Designer Nachiket Barve’s colorful collection was one of our picks for Day 2 at WLIFW. The tie & dye sarees combined with prints looked alluring and the vivid colors used made the outfit look ‘oh-so-fashionable’. We like it for it’s wearability and style quotient.

Dhruv & Pallavi

Designers Pallavi & Dhruv had showcased a very impressive collection that included western as well as Indianwear. They had layers in form of frills in Anarkali style with chudidhar which was relatively a new design in itself. There were voluminous sleeves in different shapes like bell and puffed style. Elaborate detail work on satins and chiffon with enough bling completed the look of this collection. IFP likes this collection for the jewel tones and the fit of their creations.

Tarun Tahiliani

I am in love with the color ‘Burgundy’…………..designer Tarun Tahiliani made this color the focus of his new collection which had a range of pants, sarees, Anarkali, bolero jackets, bags & belts. Tarun used fabrics like velvet, satin and chiffon for this collection. What struck me the most was the collection revolved around shades of ‘Burgundy’ which is perfect for Fall/Winter season. Plus the regal touch of Tarun made it a dreamy collection. IFP is sure to see this collection on the red carpet.

Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week 2012 – Day 1

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on February 16, 2012

Sneak Peek at the first day of WLIFW where actress Dia Mirza & Sameera Reddy walked the runway as show stopper for designers Shantanu-Nikhil. The collection had bold colors will alot of metallic elements. Drapes took centre stage in this collection while shimmer added that much needed bling for the glam quotient.

A glimpse into Shantanu-Nikhil’s Fall 2012 Collection

Designers whose Collection we loved at WLIFW 2012

Anand Kabra

Designer Anand Kabra incorporated more detail work in this recent collection which is perfect for the wedding season. The collection was a mix of western as well as Indian wear consisting of skirts, sarees, gowns, lehengas and much more. Silks, chiffon, velvet were used to create designs in cool colors like blue & green. IFP loved this collection for the colors & the detail work & we definitely do recommend ‘Anand Kabra’ creation in your next season ‘must-have’.

James Ferreira

Designer James Ferreira definitely knows how to make a woman look good in western attire. I was enthralled to see so much of bright colors in this collection since many designers have just been limiting to black, greys & whites for western wear. James put in alot of prints and concentrated more on drapes than on detail work. IFP is absolutely impressed by this collection and would love to see celebs wear it on red carpet events.

Find of the month – February 2012

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on February 1, 2012

There are many things related to fashion that actually make you think that you are blessed to be a woman. Shopping, being able to wear stilettos, getting to wear loads of jewelry and of course flaunting a bag. So when I came across the collection from ‘Cupidity’ by designer duo Karishma Jhaveri & Masumi Jain, I knew I had found the ‘Find’ of this month. Cupid definitely struck me when I saw their trendy designs :-) .

‘Cupidity’ was established in 2011 in Mumbai, by two friends Karishma Jhaveri &  Masumi Jain with a focus on bringing the latest International trends to  youngsters without making them go too heavy on their wallets. The duo felt  that the need to create a brand that provides the most trendy bags and accessories at the cheapest price! Especially targeting the younger generation, they came out with their very first collection that got an overwhelming response.

Their products range from clutches, evening bags, totes, shopping bags, iPad, laptop cases, make up pouches and wedding clutches. Now that’s an amazing variety that this label offers. ‘Cupidity’ also customize bags as per their clients wishes. Their trendy designs have been displayed in leading publications like Asain Age & Mid-day.

They have tried  to keep their price range as reasonable as possible. Bags range between Rs.400-Rs.2000 whereas accessories are between Rs.200-Rs.1200.

IFP got to know how the designer duo Karishma & Masumi started their journey and what they have in store in the future.

Q & A with the Creators of ‘Cupidity’ – Karishma Jhaveri & Masumi Jain

1) How did you both start off with creating bags?

Cupidity : Initially, we started off with outsourcing bags and retailing them online but we realized some of our customers would like a particular bag but want it in a different color, smaller or bigger size or different fabric altogether. We wanted to be able to customize anything that our customer would like, so we came up with our own range of bags including clutches, sling bags, laptop / iPad cases, shopping bags etc. which we could then modify as per their taste.

2) Was there any formal training required before you ventured into this business?

Cupidity : No, we both have no formal training in hand bag design, just a massive obsession with handbags & shoes :-)

3) What is the inspiration behind your work?

Cupidity : We get inspired by colors, a lot of bright colors to be precise and our collection reflects it. We have lots of bright oranges, hot pinks, reds, purples and a lot of young loud colors.

4) Where are ‘Cupidity’ bags retailed in India?

Cupidity : Currently we only retail online through our website www.cupidityonline.com

5) What are your plans to expand your brand in the near future?

Cupidity :We plan to exhibit rapidly throughout the country, we also aim at retailing to local stores in Mumbai and we plan to expand our collection to include shoes & accessories too!!

6) Where can one purchase ’Cupidity’ bags?

Cupidity : Customers can purchase our bags from our website www.cupidityonline.com or via our Facebook pagehttp://www.facebook.com/cupiditybags?sk=photos. You can also email the orders at cupiditybags@gmail.com
