Renault Star Guild Awards 2013

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on February 18, 2013

Star Guild Awards held in Mumbai and hosted for the very first time by Salman Khan [can’t wait to watch that] ……the red carpet had many Bollywood haseenas strutting in their designer wear. IFP takes a look at who wore what at this event.

Renault-Priyanka

Priyanka Chopra opted for Shehlaa Khan glittery outfit that she paired it with what seems like a ‘Pinky Saraf’ clutch and blue-golden sandals. The look which was again in pastel colour did not stand out plus the shoes made the look even worse. Just not feeling this styling which could have been way better.

Renault-Anushka

Anushka Sharma manages to do a 360 degree turn around on the red carpet when she walked in in a saree, pulled back hair and jhumkaas. The ‘MAnish Malhotra’ saree looked good on her but it was the earrings that IFP is absolutely in love with. Anushka rocked this look especially after seeing her in series of mini dresses & gown.

Renault-Ekta

Ekta Kapoor was promoting her upcoming movie ‘Ek thi Daayan’ by wearing this one shoulder ‘what-to-call’  outfit. Pair it with space jumping shoes and voila you have a modern day style diva from hell. As good as her movies are and as much as money she makes from them, she could afford the best in fashion to style her. Sigh……

Renault-Vidya

Vidya Balan again opted for ‘Sabyasachi’ but this time there was a twist in form of shimmer blouse. The blouse alone is somewhat too loud but Vidya seems to have played this look well by combining an understated saree & avoiding heavy jewellery. A good look but not one of her best for sure.

Renault-Eleana

Ileana D’cruz wore a floral ‘Dolce & Gabbana’ outfit which seemed too busy with the print & net combined. Plus the hair too was not  working with this outfit. Wish Ileana could have opted for simple silhouette than this one.

Renault-Aditi

Aditi Rao Hydari in a peach ‘Payal Singhal’ saree looked as if she put the entire look in hurry. The big curls with the draping of her saree spoilt this entire look which could have been so elegant if styled differently. This look lacked grace in it……….not liking even a bit.

Renault-Hema

Hema Malini wore a ‘Neeta Lulla’ saree in pastel which was just too shiny for me. But Hemaji worked the look with her choice of clutch and diamond jewellery. On anyone else the look would have come across as garish but not on Hema Malini.

Renault-Neetu

As much as I love Neetu Chandra’s yellow saree, it is her halter blouse & make-up which makes me twitch.  The saree could have been paired with a contrasting brocade blouse with short sleeves rather than a stringy halter. The foundation appeared too light on her face than her neck…………wish Neetu would wake up from a bad dream.

Renault-Sonakshi

Sonakshi Sinha in a ‘Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla’ design which did look elegant on the red carpet but with the designer dupatta trailing the floor, Sonakshi should have worn it better. The look lacked colour since the accessories, the shoes and the outfits itself were done up in pastels. Wish Sonakshi would have added emerald or ruby earrings for that ‘pop of colour’.

Renault-Sophie

Sophie Choudry who is immaculately dressed on the red carpet, seems to have take a day off………Sophie wore ‘Alice+Olivia’ gown in black combined with a red lips. This outfit which had sheer skirt, screamed for bold accessories. A contemporary neck-piece might have worked better. Not a fan of this look which was evidently too simple & boring.

Renault-Sridevi

Sridevi in ‘Sabyasachi’ lehenga which was an unusal choice for the red carpet but definitely an excellent one. Sridevi combined this outfit with a potli bag, dangling earrings & a side swept braid. Love this look on her which was classy, sophisticated and beautiful.

Screen Awards 2013

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on January 14, 2013

Screen Awards 2013 held in aamchi Mumbai, had many celebrities line up on the red carpet. Here is an update at who wore what & how did they fare??

Screen-Amitabh

Starting with the legend himself, Amitabh Bachchan walked the red carpet in an off- white bandhgala with black trousers that matched his pocket square. He looked at ease in this attire and we love him for this very fact that he is always an original.

Screen-Deepika

Deepika Padukone who is always amazingly dressed up for any occasion, left me high & dry in this look of hers. The D&G lace gown in teal fell flat on Deepika…………..plus not a fan of the big hair. I wish Deepika would have pulled her hair in an updo & worn strappy sandals to make this outfit work. Sigh! 😦

Screen-Parineeti

Parineeti Chopra is super cute, but her style here is not. I do love the ‘Sabyasachi ‘skirtthough but the blouse & the big bow belt spoil the entire look. The look is neither formal nor casual…………in fact not fit for the red carpet at a grand awards event. I so wish PArineeti would have opted for a choli or a corset instead of a button-up shirt. 😦 😦

Screen-Sonakshi

Sonakshi Sinha wore a ‘Falguni& Shane Peacock’ outfit for the awards event. Wish had the full length image of hers but from the looks of it, Sonakshi does look good.

Screen-Chitra

Chitrangada Singh in a ‘Roberto Cavalli’ gown & red lips look ‘super’ hot. Seeing her in so many amazing looks these days……… have to see more of her fabulous styles on the red carpet in future. As for this one………….Love it. 🙂

screen19

Sonali Bendre with hubby Goldie Behl in a Shahab Durazi outfit. The hairstyle made the entire look go ‘oh-so-wrong’ for Sonali. This dress called for voluminous hair plus throw in some beautiful diamonds for that polished look. Not liking this look one bit 😦

Screen-Alia

The cast of ‘Student of the Year’ were dressed to the nines…………not just Alia Bhatt but the gentlemen Varun Dhawan & Sidharth Malhotra do look their very best. Alia is wearing a ‘Gaurav Gupta’ outfit in bronze. Like it…..absolutely. 🙂

Screen-Arjun

Arjun Rampal did what he does best…………..pose looking absolutely ‘perfect’ on the red carpet. Dressed in black suit, this man is like a dream for every fashionista  since it is hard to find any flaws in his style. 🙂 🙂

Screen-Genelia

Genelia & Riteish Deshmukh were also dressed up for the occasion……..Genelia wore a ‘Roberto Cavalli’ gown nd IFP thinks she did look fabulous. Love the hair too. As for Riteish……..the satin blue trimmings on a tuxedo……………Really???

Screen-Kat

Katrina Kaif in a ‘Naeem Khan’ gown did catch my eye this time…………thank god she took some risk in this shimmer black outfit. Love her demure look and wish she continues these fabulous looks in future too. 🙂

Screen-Malaika

Malaika Arora Khan in a black lacey number which had a sexy back [how evident is it??]. But I beg Malaika to give us more looks in gowns and Indian attire. IFP has seen enough of these short dresses………….need a change. 😦

Screen-Mughda

Mughda Godse looked good in black lehenga but I wish she would have added a neck piece to glam this look up. Maybe it’s just me……..but it was nice to see Mughda get her groove back on the red carpet though.

Screen-Neha

Neha Dhupia never gives me a chance to complain………….she is seen here dressed in ‘Nupur Kanoi’ outfit with hair pulled back in a bun while only her eyes are highlighted in her make-up. The jewels are kept to the minimum with only cuff in place………..like it. 🙂

Screen-Yami

Yami Gautam looked refreshingly different in this emerald green outfit by designer Carmen Marc Valco. She finished this look with emerald earrings to match the outfit. Love it & wish to see her more on the red carpet. 🙂

INDIA-ARTS-ENTERTAINMENT

Vidya Balan has been lately opting for more Kanjeevarem sarees on the red carpet. We do love the traditional weaves of our country but I wish she would also try Patola, Paithani, Benarasi and Mysore silk sarees too. And definitely go lighter on the jewellery part by limiting it to a single piece which compliment her look. But none the less, IFP does give her credit for bringing the traditional weaves back in vogue.

Manish Malhotra for Mijjwan

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on September 4, 2012

MANISH MALHOTRA DESIGNS AT MIJJWAN SONNETS IN FABRIC 2012

The third year of Shabana Azmi’s NGO, Mijwan Welfare Society, hosted a fashion show, Mijwan Sonnets in Fabric 2012 on 3rd September at the Grand Hyatt, Mumbai. The highlight was Mijwan’s female population had their craftsmanship showcased on ramp, by leading models and celebrities, through Manish Malhotra’s designs. The 2012 edition of the show showcased embroidery done entirely by the girls of Mijwan. Manish has translated work done by Mijwan girls into contemporary modern designs.

Three years ago Namrata Goyal and Shabana Azmi approached Manish to help them to promote the Mijwan Welfare Society. At the fundraiser for Mijwan Welfare Society an NGO that was founded by noted film lyricist Kaifi Azmi to empower the girl child, he was introduced to the chikankari work done by the Mijwan girls. He was very impressed by their amazing embroidery. It stands up to the highest standard of craftsmanship anywhere in the world. Manish has wanted to do some socially responsible work for some time and Mijwan provided him the perfect opportunity. Since a year and a half he has adopted Mijwan- a tiny village near Azamgarh UP, playing mentor to 55 women from rural India with regular work and input in embroidery. And boy are we impressed with their work.

Shabana Azmi and Namrata Goyal opened the evening with a talk   in aid of the Mijwan Welfare Society. Educationist Nita Ambani walked with two little girls :Shabanas niece Meghna from Bombay  and Babita from Kaifi Azmi s school in Mizwan  to support the cause. 20 Models and celebrities such as Priyanka Chopra, Sonakshi Sinha, Shraddha Kapoor, Prabhudeva, Ankita Shorey, Arjun Kapoor, Chirag Paswan, Chitrangada Singh, Dia Mirza, Imran Khan, Imtiaz Ali, Kalki Koechlin, Karan Johar, Kunal Kapoor, Malaika Arora Khan, Neha Dhupia, Parineeti Chopra, Prateik Babbar, Rohit Roy, Rohit Shetty, Sameera Reddy, Shahana Goswami, Shazanne Padamsee, Diana Penty, Mary Kom,(who got a standing ovation) etc  walked the ramp for the Mijwan Welfare Society. All the celebs were cheered on by the audience as they sashayed down the ramp in  Manishs creations that  reflected the beautiful  handiwork from Mizwan.

Guest who came forward to support the cause were Mukesh Ambani,  Adi and Parmeshwar Godrej, Poorna and Varsha Patel, Neeraj Bajaj, Bijal Meswani,Urmila Matondkar, Hard Kaur, Riya Sen, Poonam Dhillon, Satish Kaushik, Sheetal Mafatlal etc. The celebs on ramp too sportingly gave a huge round of applause for the guests who showed up the heavy downpour and Manish too was delighted that all the friends  on ramp and  from the audience had braved the rains to make it in support of the Mizwan Welfare Society.

“In the globalised world of Fashion today it’s pointless to offer silhouettes to the West. But we have craftsmanship which they do not. This is our USP and that’s what we need to focus on. Mijwan to me is a microcosm of what India has to offer the world. We have a long history of the warp and weft of design aesthetics. It’s time we rediscover ourselves and go back to our roots,” says Manish Malhotra.

“The sangeet ceremony of the media magnate’s daughter in London chikankari work in the outfit designed by me has been done in Mijwan. It is a proud testament to Indian craftsmanship and it is heartening to provide regular work to these talented women “,   adds Manish.

Lakme Fashion Week Resort 2012 – Day 4

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on March 6, 2012

Indian designers are definitely getting a knack of designing western wear with a good fit. Day 4 was a witness to collection inspired by the western world. So who fit our bill for perfection, let’s have a look at it……….

Siddhartha Tytler

After more than a year got to see Siddhartha Tytler’s new collection which I must say still impresses me. His recent work titled aptly ‘My Journey’ since this year Siddhartha’s label would be completing 10 years. This time around the bling factor was minimized but color blocking was more intense and pastels combined with gold & silver. There were kaftans, tops, short dresses, skirts, pants and jackets seen on the runway.Sonali Bendre Behl looked stunning in black dress with a colorful jacket as she walked down the runway.  IFP likes this collection for the wearability factor and the fit of the silhouette.

Payal Singhal

We had shown you the exclusive preview of Payal’s upcoming collection but find it even more fabulous on the runway. The bridal collection titled ‘A Midsummer’s Night dream’ had a lot of net lehengas, crystal & pearl detailwork, brocade and gotha work. Pastels were combined with jewel tones. Actress Tanisha took the ramp in a navy blue lehenga though I wished she would have wore the dupatta a bit differently. IFP likes the bridal collection which would make a woman look gorgeous for her summer wedding.

Karmik

Designer Pret Fashion House ‘KARMIK’ was launched at Lakme Fashion Week in Mumbai with Sonakshi Sinha walking the runway in a JJ Valaya creation looking like a dream in the Anarkali. ‘ KARMIK’ is designer at affordable price which is a boon for all the ladies out there. Top designers like Rohit Bal, Anamika Khanna, JJ Valaya, Rocky S, Falguni & Shane Peacock, Ranna Gill, Shantanu & Nikhil, Rina Dhaka, NEeta Lulla & Kavita Bhartia will be creating an affordable collection for ‘KARMIK’. Models posed on the ramp in these beautiful outfits at LFW by these designers. IFP is delighted to introduce ‘KARMIK’ to all the fashionistas and thinks this retail concept of bringing design wear within affordable price is amazing.

Synergy One Delhi Couture Week 2011 – Day 3

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on July 25, 2011

The collections are getting brighter and more amazing as the days are passing by at Delhi Couture Week……..Day 3 was equally eventful with designers like Ashima-Leena, Shantanu-Nikhil and Manish Malhotra. Here is your sneak peek…….the entire collection will be soon uploaded on IFP.

Manish Malhotra

Sonam Kapoor was a show-stopper for Manish Malhotra…………..thankfully she did not take the limelight away from the outfits and blended with sheer ease as one of the models. She is not just a pretty actress but can double up as a model also given her tall height and alluring features. I think that is what was perfect to Manish Malhotra’s new bridal creations which was showcased…………it did have the signature ‘MM’ look with loads of layers, gotta and detail works……perfect for the upcoming festive season. As for me the clothes were kind of ‘I have seen this before’ moment for me. I desired more drama in the outfits instead of styling…………….nonetheless the clothes were beautiful.

Ashima Leena

The Royalty will definitely love Ashima Leena’s amazing new collection which spelt ‘Classic’ as well as ‘Traditional’………..no wonder they had a ‘Royal’ walking as a show-stopper for them. Sharmila Tagore wore a Kurti combined with Lehenga in subtle shades………..the collection was thankfully not ‘over the top’ and amazed by the simplicity of the creations……..I feel that it will suit women of all ages. Simply loved the pleasant colours which the designer duo had incorporated in their creations…………purple, peach, rani pink, beige, green…..one word for their collection ‘Fabulous’.

Shantanu & Nikhil

Shantanu & Nikhil created a fusion of Western with India which they do with such ease……….the layers of fabric molded to form lehengas, skirts, gowns……..the colour palette were more of dreamy shades like sky blues, whites, yellows………and of course the highlight had to be actress Sonakshi Sinha walking in a white ensemble which consisted of a fitted jacket with a layered Lehenga…………she reminded me of a bride walking down the aisle…….sigh. I think she has never looked better on the ramp before this appearance. To the designer duo, kudos for making Sonakshi look glamorous, while the rest of creation very alluring………….browny point for wearability.

Anju Modi

I had liked Anju’s earlier collection displayed in WLIFW,  this seemed like an extension of her earlier work only it was much better. The fit,the cut, the use of drapes and layers was beautiful. The outfits were elegant yet sensuous………..I am sure they would make any woman feel like a ‘Queen’. The net lehengas, velvet jackets, chiffon sarees, satin corsets……..sheer elegance. I love the detail work in silver which Anju has used in certain outfits……………I have not seen much of detail work of that sort this season. Shraddha Kapoor was the show stopper for Anju Modi…………..she looked magnificient in a golden corset combined with net lehenga.

IIFA Awards 2011 – Green Carpet

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on June 26, 2011

The Final day at IIFA Award 2011 arrived with so much of craziness all around. The entire Bollywood is have a ball at Toronto and making it’s presence felt in the far west. We have gotta see what the star looked like on the Green Carpet at this event………….even Hollywood celebrities turned up for the event………now that’s what I call Glam……

Shahrukh Khan

King Khan we know that you loooooooovvvvveeee black whenever you are on the red carpet, in this case the green carpet…………..but please give us a surprise once in a blue moon. He arrived in a basic black suit with a black shirt and to top it all a black tie………….he does look dapper, but I need a change from the routine………..seriously.

Bipasha Basu

Bipasha Basu looked every bit Glam in her Ramona Narang outfit in beige with golden accessories and coral nail paint. Though I feel the dress was just too short for the event but I am glad to know that she did change into a black gown afterwards before appearing on stage. Nonetheless she does justice to this outfit and looks great. Only she could have carried this outfit off with such an ease……..

Anil Kapoor and Hilary Swank

Handsome man with a beautiful woman as an arm candy are always a ‘Hit’ on the green carpet………….and Anil kept both these elements in his mind. Thank god he opted for a black suit with a golden beige tie looking every bit like a gentleman…….seems like he did take tips from beti Sonam…..:-) As for Hilary Swank, perfect is the only word for her.

Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra wore a ‘Manish Malhotra’ Summer collection for IIFA………….a white lucknowi detail work lehenga with silver gotta and a velvet blouse to add the much desired pop of colour. Love the outfit but it falls flat due to the styling part….. I wish she could have gathered the ‘pallu’ and left it on her left instead of drapping it across. But Priyanka does look pretty when it comes to her make-up and hair.

Malaika Arora Khan

Malaika Arora Khan came in to shock me with her choice of outfit…………a one shoulder lace number with a cut out waist pattern spoiled the look for this beautiful lady. Plus the heavy earrings did no good either. The hair, the accessories, the dress, sadly looked disastrous on Malaika. Let’s just say that it was not her day at the IIFA Awards.

Anushka Sharma

Anushka Sharma also came in as a surprise to me when she dressed up in a ‘Sabyasachi’ saree for the event. I had expected her to go in for a demure gown or a short dress…………..sadly this ensemble did not excite. Seen this before on other actress as well but Anushka looks pretty as ever. She even took home the trophy home………maybe Sabyasachi is lucky for the leading ladies of bollywood???

Sonakshi Sinha

Flawless, flawless, flawless is my review of this pretty young star…………….the all shimmer dress in black, a Bottega Veneta clutch and a pink flowers in her updo was what I am looking out for a red carpet look. Sonakshi just delivered that look effortlessly looking like a million bucks. Love the dress, the styling and the make-up. She gets two thumbs up for getting it right with her 1950s look on the red carpet……..

Sridevi

Woooooooooooohhhhhhhhhoooooooo, Sridevi is such a Diva in this red gown which reminds me of aValentino due to the drape of the gown. The pulled back hair updo look, the diamond accessories, I am all eyes for her, even at this age she looks better than ever………….young ladies entering the filmi duniya, go take some lessons from her on how to be a star at any age.

Shilpa Shetty

Shilpa Shetty in an off shoulder black gown is a good idea but add in a chucky necklace and a bright large purple clutch with lace shoes…………….then you have the recipe for red carpet disaster. But this time around hubby Raj Kundra looked good in this understated look…………Shilpa should have ideally ditched the clutch, opted for a ruby & diamond neck piece and wore a Jimmy Choos for this event………….I am sure she would have looked heavenly.

Sharmila Tagore

The gracious Sharmila Tagore was honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award which made me think that she is way too young to get this award. I mean look at this pic above and you will realize that she still looks amazingly beautiful more than the actress these days. The saree, the jadau necklace, the simple hair & make-up…………….one word for this Diva – ‘Classic’. She is the Audrey Hepburn of Bollywood for sure.

Genelia D’souza

Genelia D’souza came all dressed in a Gaurav Gupta gown for the event, though I am not that impressed by the detail work on the one shoulder pattern plus the layered trail on the side……….I must say that Genelia still looked pretty in this outfit. The beige-golden colour and the hair were appropriate for such events, just the clutch somehow seemed out of place. I do expect Genelia to give us better red carpet look next time around.

IIFA Awards 2011 – Day 2

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on June 25, 2011

After the Grand opening of IIFA on day 1 plus the Double Dhamaal premiere, day 2 had loads in store for us with a Rcok concert. Even King Khan made an entry at IIFA. Sonu Nigam and Jermaine Jackson performed at ‘IIFA rocks’ concert where tribute was paid to Micheal Jackson on his 2nd Death Anniversary. Here is your glimpse at what our Bollywood stars wore on the Green Carpet and some performances……….

Dia Mirza performs at ‘IIFA Rocks’ Concert held in Toronto

Sonakshi Sinha works her charm on the runway for Gitanjali Jewelry in a ‘Vikram Phadnis’ Bridal outfit.

Designer Vikram Phadnis showcased his Bridal collection at this event.

Bipasha Basu in a ‘Sabyasachi Mukherjee’ couture during a fashion show held at ‘IIFA Rocks’

Shahrukh Khan

Shahrukh Khan was obviously dressed in black but this time around he added red tie to feature some pop of colour to his attire. But tell me something………who dresses up in formal ensemble for a Rock concert???? Shahrukh who is known looking best in his casual wear, somehow looks more ready to attend a board meeting………..this time around, the outfit was a total mismatch with the occasion. Whereas Anushka Sharma looked awesome in a black gown with tear drop earrings……I think we have a new fashionista on the block.

Sonakshi Sinha

Sonakshi Sinha also made an entry on the Green Carpet in a jumpsuit with nude belt & wedge shoes……….I like the fact that she went casual for the concert but her shoes absolutely destroy the look. With a jumpsuit I feel a nude peep toe heels would have suited better than the wedges in order to give a better effect of the ensemble.

56th Filmfare Awards – Red Carpet Review

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on January 30, 2011

The big, big, big nite had many beautiful celebrities take stage at 56th Filmfare Awards. How could I stay behind in getting the red carpet review for the event. Though I somehow don’t agree to who won the award since I would have certainly picked other deserving actors. But red carpet review is my honest expression, no bribing here. The event was held at the Yash Raj Studios on 29th January, 2011 in Mumbai. So keeping it short and simple………….let’s see what our celebrities wore at the award function…………….and how well they fared on the red carpet.

Katrina Kaif

Katrina Kaif was seen here wearing a Manish Malhotra outfit but frankly I am confused over whether it is a gown or a lehenga with an ultra long kurti???? What this outfit needed was a shorter kurti or better, a choli with a dupatta. Secondly this outfit was way too heavy to be worn at an award function, would have worked better for someone’s marriage. My Verdict : Pretty detailing, lovely colour………..but it was a case of overdressing for the occasion. Remember less is more at such events.

Malaika Arora Khan

Malaika Arora Khan a.k.a. ‘Munni’ wore a white and golden gown with gold accessories and nude open toe shoes. A ‘Diva’ like her can gracefully carry off any western attire and she did justice to this ensemble as well. The fault however was the design since somehow the golden one shoulder detail work seemed out of the picture. The gown would have worked better if it was a strapless gown with the detail work only on the bustier. My Verdict : Love Malaika in this gown, else the outfit would have not looked this good on anyone else.

Sonakshi Sinha

It felt like a breath of fresh air the moment I saw Sonakshi wearing this pretty ‘Gauri & Nainika’ outfit which is just right, given her young age. The green colour with minimal jewellery and ‘bling’ in form of the clutch. She also won the ‘Best Debut – Female’ of her role in ‘Dabangg’ which was truly well-deserved. My verdict : Love it………..

Vidya Balan

How can a woman always end up looking so flawless on the red carpet in a saree???? That is what I always ask myself whenever I see Vidya Balan in a ‘Sabyasachi’ creation. The attention grabbing statement bib necklace, the designer blouse, the black saree with detail work on the border………………Divine. Plus have never seen Ms.Balan in red-painted nails……..who so ever inspired her to get all dressed did a pretty good job. I am sure many jaws dropped once she made an entry at the award event.  My verdict : This is the tipping point for Vidya Balan & designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, please don’t ever go back to your earlier looks.

Urmila Matondkar

Urmila who has remained faithful to designer Manish Malhotra, wore his creation again. What a relief to see this beautiful women looking gorgeous on the red carpet. Yes I am still confused with the length of the kurti but Urmila is able to carry it off well plus the ‘bling’ is restricted above the waist and on the hemlines. Since her earlier red carpet sightings were a bit of a let down, this is better off than her earlier appearances. My verdict : Like it, suits her ‘petite frame’ well.

Hrithik & Suzzane Roshan

‘Lady in Red’ accompanied by her knight in shining armour…………………literally. Seeing Hrithik in those shiny pants and the grey suit I thought he had borrowed it from his father’s wardrobe where Papa Roshan might have still stored his 1970s clothes.  Suzzane on the other hand fares a wee bit better except for the pink clutch which looks out of the place. Again I would love to see her wear jewellery like a pair of earring on her gown. My verdict : Hrithik can look amazing in Karan Johar – Varun Bahl creation or a ‘Tom Ford’ suit.

Kajol

Kajol who made an appearance after a long time, also took home the award for the ‘Best Actress’…………………stylewise she seemed to have grabbed a Manish Malhotra outfit in a hurry. She is yet to lose her baby weight but why hide it under an oversized ill-fitting anarkali. I am sure that Kajol would have looked way better in a simple salwar kameez or even a saree. As for the baby weight, all I can say she still looks adorable. My Verdict : Honey you are beautiful in whatever you dress up but drop the baggy oversized clothes. They make you look bigger than you actually are.

Imran & Avantika Khan

The newly weds Imran Khan and Avantika made an entry very much in love…………….Imran was dressed in a tuxedo while Avantika went in for a bubble gum pink knee-length outfit with a black belt and nude pumps. Though not a fan of the shoes, I am happy that Avantika took a risk wearing this shocking pink colour for the red carpet plus the hair done up in a ‘do’ works for me. I would have just changed the belt to something with more metallic studs and shoes to match it. Imran looks dashing as ever……………..how many of our stars actually dress up like him for the red carpet. They are young and can easily experiment with their looks. My verdict : As a couple they look lovely, but I prefer Imran’s sleek look in the Tux over Avantika’s ensemble.

Preity Zinta

Is that Preity???? Whoa I never thought of seeing her dressing in Indian attire on the red carpet……………….no doubt she is looking refreshingly different and pretty but why is the beautiful work on the inner skirt which looks more like a lehenga hidden underneath the drapes??????? Is this another new styles of Manish Malhotra???? If your outfit has detail work please don’t hide the amazing work done by our hardworking Indian craftsmen. Preity looks beautiful but I am not digging her net saree. My verdict : Could have looked way better if the saree drape was different.

Rani Mukherjee and Shahrukh Khan with wife Gauri

Shahrukh Khan and Gauri made an entry with Rani Mukherjee and a friend, where the ladies donned midnight blue gowns  looking flawless. Like Gauri’s one shoulder Donna Karan gown but the oversized clutch is what I am not a fan of. Rani went for the shimmer halter neck dark blue outfit which for her petite frame works wonders. Shahrukh Khan is dressed as usual in a black suit and bed hair but this time the ladies got me drooling over their outfits. My verdict : Shahrukh is smart to have beautiful arm candy to complete his look……………;-)

Prachi Desai

Prachi Desai who was one of the nominees came in this blushing pink gown which was indeed very dreamy but her hairdo somehow woke me up from that dream. The braided hairdo would have looked amazing on an Indian attire than on a gown……………….anybody recall Vidya Balan wearing a saree with braided hair. How classy was that???  Call me traditional but this is somehow not working for me. I would have styled her with side swept hair kept open. My verdict : Love the dress, hate the hair.

Amitabh Bachchan with Bahu Aishwarya

Papa Big B made an appearance along with Aishwarya…………..I do recall that he had boycotted this award function last year……….let bygones be bygones for now. Aishwarya who was nominated in ‘Best Actor – Female’category was looking ravishing in this Manish Malhotra off-white creation. I truly wished she would have at least won the ‘Critics Award’  not that Vidya was not deserving, she is a brilliant actress………………but Aishwarya did stand out in ‘Guzaarish’. Maybe this is just my opinion but stylewise Aishwarya looks elegant. Big B on the other hand wore a two-toned blazer which he was able to carry off for this glitzy event. He received an award for completing 40 glorious years in Bollywood. My verdict : Father & daughter-in-law look graceful. Aishwarya is definitely my pick for the ‘Best Dressed’ at the Filmfare.

Prateik Babbar

Is this the same young guy we had seen last year at the Filmfare wearing sneakers with a suit???? Hell, yes it is Prateik Babbar looking suave and happening…………….Dhobi Ghat seems to have done wonders to his style sense. Thank God we are able to see his good looks in this clean get-up of his. I am sure he would have found many girls eager to party with him the night away. The black single button blazer suit with clean-shaven look gets a thumbs up from me My verdict : He looks very sophisticated…………Ohh La La…….

Raveena Tandon

Last time when I saw Raveena on the red carpet, I jumped out of my seat quite literally. But this time I am not disappointed with her choice. The black anarkali is also MM creation [Hope you know MM stands for Manish Malhotra who has dressed half of the ladies for this event] is definitely a good break from her earlier red carpet appearances. Though the dress itself does not stand out much, Raveena still looks good in it. My verdict : Strictly Like it, though I feel Raveena can do much better. I would dress her in more contemporary, sophisticated fashion.

Sridevi & Boney Kapoor

Sridevi is looking ‘HOT’ as the days are passing by……………..seriously I wonder why she never wore such beautiful gowns on the red carpet earlier. The only thing which should have been skipped is the shimmery stole. The satin gown itself is gorgeous enough, why let it get distracted by anything else??? As for Boney Kapoor, I cannot see him when his beautiful wife takes all the attention on the red carpet. My Verdict : Sexy outfit, skip the stole.

Red Carpet Review – Zee Cine Awards 2011

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on January 16, 2011

Zee Cine awards was one of the biggest Bollywood award ceremony which was held outside of India. The venue for the event was the plush new Marina Bay in Singapore. There were the whose who of Bollywood. So let’s glance at who won our hearts in the fashion department and who needed a desperate make-over from a stylist before stepping on the red carpet. Here is my review of the red carpet of the Zee Cine Awards 2011.

Deepika Padukone

Let me start the review with the young ‘new’ lot of the industry in short with Deepika who was dressed in a one shoulder silver gown that had a fashionable knot on the waist. Though I like the gown a lot and since the many past appearances of Deepika’s, I feel this is a step towards good style sense. But somehow hate the shoes and the clutch. Witha gown like that, a pop of colour was very much desired here. I wish Deepika would have opted for strappy sexy heels in silver and grey with black Judith Leiber clutch. I am sure that would have given this outfit a whole new dimension. Nonetheless, love the bold gown since suits Deepika’s frame amazingly. My verdict : One thumbs up for the gown.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan should ideally be the ‘Queen of International Red Carpet’ sinceI seldom see her messing up with her looks on the International platform. This one too is no exception, since Mrs. Bachchan is currently going thru with the ‘Manish Malhotra’ phase and this outfit by far looks very elegant. The velvet trimmings are very subtle on the rich golden brown colour fo the outfit.Plus the detail work  on the net silhouette is to die for. Plus minimal jewellery is the way to go. My Verdict : Absolutely Love it…………

Hrithik Roshan with wife Suzzane

The celebrity couple was dressed to kill in black but unfortunately too much of black killed the ‘look’ that could have been. Seriously I have seen Hrithik in that suit with the slim tie a numerous times and I need to see something new on him. Maybe same suit no tie or a different tie would have worked better. As for Suzzane, the black gown without any ‘bling’ is too boring. Some jewellery courtesy sister Farah would have helped a lot. My verdict : Way too simple and boring, need some glitter.

Sonakshi Sinha

Oh oh…….Where is the beautiful girl whom I had seen in ‘Dabangg’ gone and who has draped that lovely girl in that ‘curtain’ print ensemble………………..tsk, tsk,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,pity I’d say. I do agree this was the very first international platform that Sonakshi was making her appearance but this outfit was not what a ‘fresh’ face like hers was expected to wear. I wish she would have gone for something more glamorous in a saree like a sequin detail work on chiffon plus traditional jewellery. This outfit does not at all emphasize her pretty face and true assets her eyes. As an actress I do like her a lot and know that she has potential to make it big. My Verdict : Need more fresh and younger look for this pretty lady.

Rishi And Neetu Kapoor

Our favourite yester year star couple still make my heart go ‘Awww’ whenever I see them dressed to perfection on the red carpet. Neetu Kapoor as elegant as ever dressed in a beige anarkali with those ‘ooh la la’ Ruby & diamond earrings looks like a ‘Diva’. Mrs. Kapoor can I please borrow those lovely earrings for a day……………….:-) Mr. Kapoor Sr. took some effort this time to be dressed in a grey suit just wish he had not worn the tag card beneath his tie.My verdict : Lovely pair who ooze loads of ‘Kapoor’ Royalty……………….two thumbs up for them.

Arjun Rampal and Mehr Jessia

Arjun And Mehr Jessia also walked in wearing black but thankfully they were not boring. After a long time, I get to see both dressed appropriately with Arjun wearing a Shahab Durazi creation while Mehr went for a Monisha Jaising creation. Glamorous, smart and perfect for the occasion. Mehr did full justice to that dress given the amazing bod and looks she has. My Verdict : Two thumbs up for the lovely couple who look good together.

Prachi Desai

Prachi Desai choosed this maroon Gauri & Nainika outfit but happened to mess  it up with lack of accessories on this plain ensemble that screamed for some glamour. With those pretty looks, Prachi could have won every fashionista’s heart with a pair of chandelier earrings in diamonds plus a cuff, a fashionable clutch and glitzy shoes. Though these shoes equally do the job well………………the hair could have been tied up in a high set pony with the collar bones getting all the attention. If you have it flaunt it honey…………….why hide it and make it look like plain disastor. My Verdict:More experiment required here. Have fun while you are still young.

Neha Dhupia

Neha Dhupia was looking all glamed up like a doll for the event and must say that the lady is more surprising on the red carpet than on the screen. I am not fond on the frills on a gown unless it is a knee length dress but here they seem to give a slimmed down effect for Neha. Hair pulled back, jewels blinging bright and the dress fit to perfection works for me. My Verdict : Pretty, pretty and pretty.

Red Carpet – Star Screen Awards 2011

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on January 7, 2011

The year’s first award function 17th Star Screen Awards was held in Mumbai where our stars graced the red carpet. But I am a bit disappointed on the amount of ‘bling’ used in the outfits which few celebrities had worn.

Sonakshi Sinha

The debutante of the year Sonakshi Sinha looks amazing in this net Shantanu-Nikhil outfit with black heels and clutch. I say she looks awesome in this simple yet sexy look. Go guys feast your eyes on this beautiful young lady. Stylewise, I am liking this look for her which is very age appropriate as well as the event.

Rekha & Vidya Balan

The original ‘Diva’ of our film industry with the upcoming ‘Diva’ Ms. Vidya Balan look graceful in their respective Kanjeevaram Saree. I absolutely feel no matter how the fashion might change, but a Kanjeevaram saree is for keeps till eternity. Rekha is all decked up in jewellery on her golden saree looks elegant but I do wish to see her in a glorious designer saree since she is capable for carrying any type of saree. Vidya on the other hand usually dressed in Sabyasachi, went the Kanjeevaram way. Though I must say I like this look of hers too. With a saree, Vidya knows she can never go wrong.

Shahid Kapur

Shahid Kapur who is all smiles here is not gonna be happy with my review. This attire is disappointing especially the untidy shirt. Shahid please tidy up and go a bit formal. That sweet smile needs proper dressing to go withit.Plus I am sure, designers would be dying to get you all dressed in their creations. So why not give it a try???

Prachi Desai

Prachi Desai wore a ‘Falguni & Shane Peacock’ attire with the feather fringe type of design. But what I am not able to digest is the nude colour with black plus the animal print. Somehow on her that colour combo is just getting all washed out on her. Neck up she looks adorable plus the styling with the shoes & clutch was good but I would have loved to see her in a more bold colour. Nonetheless strictly ‘like’ this glam look on her.

Mugdha Godse

Mugdha Godse was seen after a long time and more appropriately dressed for the award function. Dressed in a black net saree with sequin work border plus hair all tied up. Honestly she is looking nice in this outfit but not awesome. I feel she just needs to go away from shiny, glittery stuff and go for matt shades. And to see her in a knee-length Herve Leger would be a dream come true.

Katrina Kaif

Katrina was a vision in red and was way better than her earlier appearances. This is more lady like rather than her usual ‘Barbie’ get up. I am all in for this glam sophisticated look. Two thumbs up for Ms. Kaif. Such a fashionable look was long overdue from her end.

Kirron Kher

Kirron Kher was dressed in a blue saree posed with her son Sikander for the cameras.  Mother & son duo look good where Sikander goes for shorter hair and a formal get up. Neat I would say and like the attire. As for Kirron Kher who seems to be wearing a Tanchoi saree is perfect as ever. To complain against her look would not be appropriate since she always makes an effort to look perfect whatever be the occasion.

Sonali Bendre and Goldie Behl

Sonali Bendre looked very bit of yummy mummy in the blue gown plus with the bib necklace completing the attire, I would say that Sonali truly stood out with her choice………………..in a good way. The Bib necklace is very much the object of attention on the plain blue background………….of course every outfit needs a biut of drama. As for Goldie, sorry but Sonali takes all my attention so he would have to work a bit more to look equally good.

Mini Mathur & Kabir Khan

I am loving this saree on Mini Mathur with the potli bag. She does have a bod to carry off any outfit but I like the fact how gracefully she has gone ethnic from modern. As for Kabir, please loose the jeans and come dressed in formals for a award ceremony. You have a good personality, so why not flaunt it…….

Stay tuned for more pics.

Who looked ‘Hot’ at the HDIL India Couture Week 2010???

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 12, 2010

There were few women who looked amazing on the red carpet of the HDIL Indian Couture Week 2010, rest everyone else left me high & dry with their styling. Let me make some of you understand that you need to take red carpet events seriously and it doesn’t matter if you wear a non designer outfit or a designer outfit…………….the final aim should be to look good no matter what. And please never go extreme with your make-up, hair or accessories……………too much is definitely not required here. Women who understood this fact have made to this list……………..see for yourself why they looked ‘Hot’………….

Twinkle Khanna

Twinkle Khanna has never looked better till date. Her transformation from a former movie star to a superstar’s wife has been superb. At HDIL India Couture Week 2010 Twinkle Khanna wore a ‘Kay Uger’ outfit with Alexander McQueen’s ‘The Britannia’ clutch for that much-needed pop of colour and those shimmer open toe heels. My Verdict : She looks like a vision in white and the outfit is very event appropriate.

Karisma Kapoor

Karisma Kapoor wore this amazing one shoulder top in red paired with black pants, glittery clutch and a black heels. Simple, elegant and to the point. Karisma definitely knows what good style is………………..her style never screams for attention yet manages to get plenty in subtle manner. I have maintain that she is one of the few celebrities in the Indian Fashion scene who knows what looks good on her and is not a fashion victim but a classic diva.

Suzzane Roshan

Check out Suzzane Khan in a glittery ‘Herve Leger’ bandage dress which is so different from what the other celebrities and wanna bes usually wear on the red carpet. I like the way this dress looks on Suzzane since she has kept the accessories to the minimum and let the dress do all the talking. No one else could have carried it off as well as Suzzane did……….

Sonakshi Sinha

Sonakshi in yellow was quite unexpected but what a pleasant surprise this is……………….this one shoulder Raakesh Agarwal outfit is absolutely complimenting Sonakshi’s skin tone. Plus she has just worn golden earrings to add a bit of glitter to this outfit. The shoes were kept in nude tones…………..on the whole love this look of Sonakshi.

Sonam Kapoor

Sonam Kapoor is wearing a vintage dress which costs only US $25 but beats out any other designer wear. With her mother’s heirloom vintage neck piece and Valentino heels who could have rocked this outfit better than Sonam??? Sonam has made me believe that it is not necessary that fashion has to be worth thousands of dollars but a classic little black dress like this one can be red carpet appropriate if worn with proper accessories and hairstyle. This 1960s inspired look gets two thumbs up from me…………..Sonam you rock girl!!!!

HDIL India Couture Week 2010 – Day 2

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 8, 2010

Karan Johar & Varun Bahl

The best dressed men of India walk the runway together…………………Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan and Shahrukh Khan……………….Uffffffffff can’t get enough of glamour. The event HDIL India Couture Week 2010 and the designers were Karan Johar & Varun Bahl. Big B wore a black coat with velvet collar design while Hrithik wore a black velvet jacket which had a very regal touch to it with the antique watch on the side………very vintage. Where as Shahrukh who couldn’ t keep from dancing on the ramp as well, was wearing a suit designed by the duo. The three handsome men definitely were a delight to see on the runway together……………………….yummy…….:-)

Coming back to the collection, the clothes were very Victorian era inspired with frilled cuffs, long coats & jackets, the big collars, vintage detail work………….the collection was absolutely original, wearable and elegant. Karan’s vision & Varun’s brilliance make for a commendable collection……………celebrity or no celebrity, the collection has substance.

Queenie Dhody

Malaika Arora Khan walked the ramp for jewellery designer & socialite Queenie Dhody……………it was all emeralds & diamonds for Malaika though not liking the outfit a bit. The styling I feel was all wrong here………………a western outfit fitted with a traditional waist band???? I would have preferred these jewels with a sexy choli and a shimmer white saree that would have acted as a perfect background for the jewels. Plus the hair would have looked better if left open & tossled a bit…………….a petite like Malaika needs volumes when it comes to hair. The outfits for Queenie’s show were designed by Nandita Mahtani.

Maheep Kapoor

Maheep Kapoor had the entire social circuit on the runway…………….literally. But i must admire the fact that all the celebrities some of who are close friends of Maheep, walked the ramp wearing Seema Khan outfits and Maheep Kapoor jewels. I feel she is the only designer to have only celebrities walk for her than models……………which brings to me to a question………….are our models gonna go extinct if celebrities take over???? Sonakshi Sinha, Natasha Khan, Ayesha Takia, Bhavna Pandey, ‘Aisha’ movie celebs Amrita Puri & Ira Dubey and many more. I liked the jewellery but was not convinced of Seema Khan’s designs on few celebrities…………..like the white asymmetrical gown with the stark black broad belt which took centre stage than the jewellery on Sonakshi with the hideous hairdo was not upto the benchmark of a couture week, Ayesha Takia’s strapless dress put more emphasis on her assets which required less attention. Though I liked the LBDs……………not a fan of the other outfits.

Raj Mahtani

Raveena Tandon was the showstopper for Raj Mahtani’s jewellery collection…………..she came on the runway wearing  a very vintage traditional necklace which had loads of precious stones………..asmuch as the jewellery was beautiful, the styling was bad with Raveena wearing a body suit along with a sheer drape in black & golden. I wish she would have worn somethin equally vintage as her jewellery. Even a brocade saree in dark hues would have done the work…………..as for the hairstyle, please don’t get me started……………it was worst. Who ever styled her, needed to go to styling school first…………….but in the end I cannot deny the fact that Raj Mahtani’s collection was good.

Dabangg Premiere

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on September 10, 2010

‘Dabangg’ has finally released……………….the much awaited movie had its premiere held in Mumbai with all the cast present. I must say these days Salman definitely can be named as our modern-day Dharamendra which is what I can make up from his Dabangg trailer. Getting back to the red carpet affair of the premiere, many celebrities were dressed in black…………………honestly all black with no colour is very, very disappointing. The lead actor of the movie Salman Khan was dressed in a black shirt & black jeans with an aquamarine stone stud belt. I am no fan of Salman but I know that he could have done much better rather than going in for all black. I would have preferred him to come in his ‘Chulbul Pandey’ avatar rather than just another guy thing. Sallu bhai…………get a bit hip will you.

Meanwhile the leading lady Sonakshi Sinha was dressed in a black & golden ‘Vikram Phadnis’ outfit, which I felt was too long…………….I would have preferred this outfit with a churidhar instead and some amazing heels. The velvet trimmings at the base looked a bit too much though………but the golden detail work on the bustier was note worthy. The browny point here was that Sonakshi was able to carry off the dress well and with sheer elegance. On the whole the outfit did not scream for attention yet was very subtle.

Malaika Arora Khan aka ‘Munni’  in the movie looked hot in a Roberto Cavalli Dress but the red Bottega Veneta clutch and those hideous shoes made a perfect look bad……………….wish she would have replaced her shoes with a bronze colour peep toe heels and a black clutch……………..though I am digging those big earring which give a fresh look to the outfit.

Amrita Arora on the other hand looked fabulous in a brocade kurti with long slits which was also designed by Vikram Phadnis…………..the fact that I like here is the pop of colour that the ‘Rani’ pink & golden sleeves are giving it to the outfit. Love the hair, the kurti & the matching  jewel buckel shoes.

Tabu also made a rare appearance at the premiere of ‘Dabangg’ wearing a one shoulder black with white trimming gown. This long thing is not doing any justice to Tabu’s bod and her height…………..and the shoes were better off with an Indian attire………….they are just not working with this outfit. On the whole, this is a mess-up from the ultra glamorous lady.

Bipasha Basu took a U-turn by turning up in a saree at the premiere………………not that I am complaining but the saree look somehow did not work for me neither did the hair. The white net saree was bad enough with the white & golden trimming but turned out worst with the brocade blouse. The hair looked equally messy……………….it was not a day for Ms.Basu…………..Sorry but not liking this saree look which was created by designer Rocky S.

Arbaaz you are the producer of this big movie and wife of glamorous Malaika but your outfit is not speaking any of those things…………………….you are definitely fearless or let’s say ‘Dabangg’ in this get up but it is ok if you dress up this way when you are on the set making a movie…………….this is a premiere and I am not impressed with this laid back style. You have to work alot on your handsome looks……………..please get some help from your wife.

Salman’s younger sister wore a jumpsuit in chocolate colour with a halter shimmer neck and a ‘Bottega Veneta’ clutch but unfortunately the entire look is too much of matchy-matchy with the shoes, clutch and watch. Plus the colour is down playing Arpita’s skin-tone. An outfit in beige or aquamarine blue would have worked wonders for this petite lady. Better luck next time………..

Sridevi also made an appearance with her daughter & hubby wearing a beige ‘Herve Leger’ bandage skirt and a knotted shirt with a waist jewel in gold and a ‘Mcqueen’ clutch……………..but the end result was a a bit disastrous with the ‘out of bed’ hair, the skirt being too tight and short [I wonder how comfortable was she] and the shirt made it look more appropriate for day wear rather than night out one. On the whole Sridevi has an amazing toned body and look at those fabulous legs…………….I am sure she will find a better way to flaunt them.

Looking at the pics of these two lovely women, all I can say – smart tops, but wrong bottoms………….Dia top’s in black with a touch of silver sequins on the sleeves is adorablebut pairing in with black tights was a wrong idea……….wish she had paired it with skinny blue jeans, would have looked better. Juhi’s kurta is quite a relief from the blacks other people were wearing, but the brown trousers were not too hot though. Wish she would have pair with black trousers or fitted denims.

Minisha Lamba came in dressed in white in a pretty white knee length dress with matching Mary Jane design shoes…………and errrr a red Louis Vuitton bag which screamed for attention. The shimmer red LV bag would have looked better with black or blue but not white. I would have preferred Minisha carrying a small clutch instead of carrying her entire make-up kit bag. Not at all subtle………infact too showy. Where the outfit was a deal breaker, the bag marred the entire look.

India International Jewellery Week 2010 – Finale

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on August 20, 2010

Unfortunately the ‘Finale’ was pretty much a downer with the jhataak dresses taking the grace away from the beautiful jewels…………..I do pity the show-stoppers who had to wear the hideous outfits…………….my sympathies with you all.

Sonakshi Sinha whose release of first movie ‘Dabangg’ is just around the corner, was the showstopper dressed in Archana Kocchar. Love the jewels…………….but the outfit was ‘bad’, reminded of the 1980s where our actresses were dressed like a shiny disco ball…………..since the necklace is pretty loaded with diamonds and rubies, it would have been better if the designer would have dressed Sonakshi in something less extravagant. But will still look forward to seeing her in ‘Dabangg’ since I am convinced that this lady will be a ‘talent powerhouse’.

*******

Mugdha Godse graced the ramp in a shiny satin golden beige colour gown with loads and loads of detail work done in crystals and sequins. Her outfit was still bearable since it blended well with her jewellery, the jewellery was by P.C.Jewellers……….but honestly I would take Mugdha away from strikingly shiny colours and give more emphasis to her face with sober colours without much detail works on the outfit.

***********

The bubbly Ayesha Takia also walked the ramp though looking at the Archana Kocchar outfit, I feel it is better I don’t comment at all……………………..If the entire emphasis is taken by the outfit, what is left for the jewellery………………….how so ever they might be gorgeous………….I cannot find them in this attire.
