IIJW 2013 has a new venue this year…………the show opened this weekend in New Delhi. India International Jewellery Week started off in Mumbai and is now set to go to other cities of the country. With designers & leading Jewel houses of India come together to showcase their best at this prestigious Jewellery show.

The show started with Sonam Kapoor inaugurating this event………..Sonam is the face of IIJW and does true justice to her job as the ambassador in the most stylish way. She wore a colourful lehenga by designer Anamika Khanna combined by jewels created by Sonam’s mother Sunita Kapoor. IFP is in awe of this entire look which was not over the top blingy yet had sophistication written all over. LOVE!!!

Falguni & Shane Peacock’s Fall 2013 Collection at New York Fashion Week

Designers Falguni & Shane Peacock once again took the stage with their recent most collection which they presented at NYFW. The collection which primarily had gowns, pants and dresses was done up in dark hues. The 3D prints, the feathers, exaggerated shoulder, the glitter on sheer fabric……all of their signature designs were evident in this collection. Metal detailing in form of peplum was seen in certain outfits.

But to be honest, I fail to see anything new in this collection as I feel I have seen such designs over last 3 seasons. There was definitely nothing exciting in terms of new style. The designer duo should get their grey cells working & churn out something unseen in their next collection. Unfortunately this one is a very forgetful one & I cannot even differentiate between their earlier collections & this one.

Prabal Gurung’s Fall 2013 at New York Fashion Week

Earlier IFP had shown you the works of designer Prabal Gurung for the label ICB……Prabal also showcased his signature collection at Mercedez Benz NYFW. ‘Military’ seemed to be the inspiration behind his work, for the colours like olive green with black, grey, red & white were used in this collection. Use of satin added the desired feminity to the outfits. The make-up was kept nude with hint of colour here & there while the hair was pulled back in a neat updo.

Peplum detail was used alot in jackets and tops but with sheer refinement. Not a fan of the attires made out of leather and fur as these looked ‘out of place’ in this collection. I do like the way the inspiration has been incorporated in Prabal’s designs but with so much of grace in it. Love the fitted jackets in this collection…….the fit, the cut and the look was simply amazing. The dresses with satin cut-out detail were another signature touch added by the designer which IFP liked.

This collection did stand out of Prabal’s earlier works but not a fan of the leather outfits. Thought those were unnecessary in this beautiful collection.

Bibhu Mohapatra’s Fall 2013 at New York Fashion Week

Designer Bibhu Mohapatra presented his Fall 2013 collection at Mercedez Benz Fashion Week. The idea behind this collection was 1920s & 1930s in which the designer’s signature geometric prints were also seen. The styling was vintage with hair done up in side swept waves, dark lips combined with smokey eyes while handbags, clutch, vintage hats & platform heel completed the look.

The colours ranged from black, blue, grey, purple to amber yellow & pastels. The collection consisted of gowns, skirts, formal pants, tops, dresses, jackets &  stoles. A lot of fur & velvet was seen in Bibhu’s latest offering but it was the pastel colour gowns that I drew my attention as they were beautiful. Not a fan of the jackets as they lacked proper ‘fit’ which was also evident in few outfits as well.

Wish the designer would sway away from bulky fabrics and have more designs in lighter fabrics. Not a fan of this collection since I was hoping that Bibhu would come up with something new & much more fabulous as his last collection was.

Naeem Khan’s Fall 2013 Collection at New York Fashion Week

Designer Naeem Khan showcased his recent work ‘Fall 2013’ collection at the Mercedes Benz NYFW. Vintage was the theme behind the look of the show…….models walked the runway in vintage formal braided updos while the make-up was au natural. Though I was not that thrilled when Naeem showcased his Spring 2013 collection at NYFW in the year 2012……..this time around I couldn’t help but smile ear to ear after seeing this collection.

The collection included gowns [how does he make them turn out so elegant??], knee-length dresses, velvet jackets, kaftans, formal pants, skirts and scarves. This time around, Naeem experimented with sheer & flowy fabrics like silk, chiffon, georgettes, lace in gowns & dresses while introducing velvet for that regal touch. Love the velvet jacket in maroon which was teamed with formal pants & lace halter top. The colours were red, maroon, blue & black with sequin detail work in gold & silver. The gowns in red & golden were so romantic……..I am sure these will get featured on the red carpet  soon.

All I can say that this collection was ‘BEAUTIFUL’ & ‘AWESOME”…… all in capital of course……..the vintage charm was reflected fabulously in this collection and the sequin work was class apart.

Naeem will be showcasing his works in upcoming fashion week in India……Can hardly wait for that. Watch this space for more update.

Prabal Gurung’s Fall 2013 for ICB at New York Fashion Week

Prabal Gurung’s recent collection for the Japanese fashion house ICB was showcased at New York Fashion Week yesterday. The Fall 2013 collection had ample of autumn colours like grey, burgundy, dark blue, camel yellow and of course black. The collection described at ‘building block’ by the designer himself had a range of jackets, dresses, pants, tops, cardigans, stole and trench coats. In many outfits  gloves, skirt and detailing in leather was used which stood out well especially on short dresses with leather zip belts.

Bibhu Mohapatra at New York Fashion Week

Designer Bibhu Mohapatra showcased his collection at Mercedez Benz New York Fashion Week yesterday. Bibhu’s signature style of using fluid prints took a new high in this collection where the prints included designs of a butterfly’s metamorphosis in vivid colors. The lines of the silhouette were sharp and edgy. This collection had me on the use of cobalt blues, olive green and silver grey plus the alluring prints. Loved the red knee length dress which was showcased on the runway. This is definitely one of the alluring collection from designer Bibhu Mohapatra which I very much liked.

Falguni & Shane Peacock at New York Fashion Week

Designer Falguni & Shane Peacock also showcased their collection at the prestigious Mercedez Benz New York Fashion Week. The collection was done up in primarily cold colours like blue, grey and black consisted of body suits, dresses, skirts, pants and tops. But unfortunately the collection did not offer anything new or worth grabbing attention. The cut and fit was also seen in their earlier works as well as the patterns like mixing colours, adding fringe & feathers.  Wishing that this designer duo to give a new look in their future fashion week shows.

Sachin + Babi at New York Fashion Week

IFP always wants to be first to get you the update on Indian Designers not just in our country, but also who live abroad. Mercedez Benz New York Fashion Week has seen the number of Indian origin designers grow over the years. They are finally getting recognized for their creativity & work. One such designer duo who are carving a niche for themselves are Sachin & Babi Ahluwalia.

Based in New York, this designer duo featured their Spring 2013 collection at Mercedez Benz New York Fashion Week which had plenty of pastels  & khakhi colors with splashes of reds & blue. The collection consisted of shirts, tops, pants, skirts, dresses and jackets. Denims in various colors was seen on the runway but it was presented in a very ‘chic’ manner. The collection had a lot of  ‘Style’ quotient to it and loved the way the designers had played around with colors. The dresses in bright color won my vote hands down. Looking forward to see more from this designer duo in future fashion weeks.

Naeem Khan showcases at New York Fashion Week

Designer Naeem Khan showcased his Spring 2013 collection at the Mercedez Benz New York Fashion Week which had a range of knee length dresses, pants, jackets and gowns. Unlike Naeem’s earlier works, shimmer detailing was limited to the bodice part of an outfit. The ‘fit’ was given main emphasis with a fair amount of floral prints, leaf motifs and lace cutwork used in this collection. The collection also included few pieces of Naeem Khan’s signature work – The Kaftan dress in yellow, peach and powder blue shades.

I personally wanted to see more bright colors in Naeem’s collection since this time around the designer went for less detail work. Loved the jackets and the pants in this collection as they oozed ‘sophistication’ which I am sure many fashionista’s will be ready to lay their hands on. This collection was very different from Naeem’s previous collection as prints and monochromes took centre-stage.  The fabric was rich, the ‘Fit’ was perfect and the styling was kept neat. Although keeping in mind the spring season, I hoped Naeem would have surprised with alluring hues…………but maybe that’s just me. A designer who is so creatively gifted, I am too small to judge his work.

Finale at India International Jewellery Week 2012

Highlights of the closing ceremony at IIJW 2012

‘Indian Fashion Police’ has crossed over 2 million visits and what better way to celebrate but with a new post that features beautiful ladies like Madhuri Dixit Nene & Sonam Kapoor. Both the bollywood Divas walked the runway at IIJW 2012. Madhuri & Sonam wore Anamika Khanna outfit but it was Madhuri all the way for me. She looked absolutely amazing in this outfit which spelt ‘royalty’ all the way plus the magnificent jewels from PC Jewellers completed the look.

Sonam Kapoor channelled the ‘Rajasthan’ with this look of hers. The jewels, the outfit and of course Sonam……..a perfect combination for the face of IIJW. Love!

Birdhichand Ghanshyamdas unveiled their new range of contemporary jewellery ‘Aranya’ at IIJW 2012. Sushmita Sen was the glamorous show-stopper for this brand.

Bipasha Basu, Neha Dhupia and model Ankita Shorey walked for Gitanjali Gems. Bipasha Basu is also the face of Gili looked pretty in the Indian wear………….my guess is that the outfits are designed by Payal Singhal. [Just in: Bipasha Basu wore a ‘Neeta Lulla’ creation, Neha Dhupia was in ‘Nishka Lulla’ design and Ankita Shorey wore a ‘Payal Singhal’ Lehenga]

Show-stopper Malaika Arora Khan wore an elaborate neck piece which had loads of diamonds and precious gems designed by KGK Entice Pvt. Ltd. Me liking the sunshine yellow on her.

D.Navinchandra Jewels

Yami Gautam was the show-stopper for D.Navinchandra at IIJW where she wore a kundan and diamond encrusted necklace which had a flower shaped pendant in the centre.

Model & Actress Esha Gupta walked for the brand Kashi Jewellers. Esha was adorned in a rubies & diamond necklace which had floral pattern.

Day 1 at India International Jewellery Week 2012

IPF presents the highlights of Day 1 at India International Jewellery Week 2012 which started on 19th August 2012 in Mumbai. Many design houses presented their recent works at this event. So let’s catch a glimpse of some of the designs and celebrities seen at IIJW 2012. The show was opened by Sonam Kapoor who was also accompanied by Hema Malini on the ramp.

Sabyasachi Mukherjee at Delhi Couture Week

The finale was presented by designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee and true to his style, he floored the audience. What was different that this time around Sabyasachi had infused brighter colours like reds and emerald greens with pastels. The collection was beautiful, especially loved the embroidered clutch.
