Day 5 at WLIFW Autumn/Winter 2013

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on March 18, 2013

WIFW comes to an end and what a fabulous time it has been watching the model wear amazing designs. The work was new, fresh and plenty ‘out of box’. IFP reviews the last day of WIFW & the collections that stood out.

IFP loved the collection of these designers……

Virtues by Viral, Ashish & Vikrant

Virtue1

Designer trio Viral, Ashish & Vikrant had me take notice of their collection which had a range of tunics, dresses, anarkalis, dhoti pants, jackets, vest and flowy skirts. Check prints were used in plenty by the designers which was combined with rich embroidery & velvet detailing. The colour were muted shades and had outfits for both men & women.

The collection had a very classic appeal to it especially the menswear stood out.  Loved the outfits which had  ‘old world charm’ to it. I would like to see more looks from this team of designers in future and am sure this collection of theirs would find many takers.

Day 4 at WLIFW Autumn/Winter 2013

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on March 17, 2013

Day 3 had very few new designs but I am still hopeful about the new works that is yet to be showcased at WIFW. Here is your update about IFP’s favourite for Day 4.

Collections which IFP loved were…….

Rahul Mishra

RahulM1

Designer Rahul Mishra’s collection ‘The Baroque Tree’ was showcased at WIFW. Baroque which literally means  style of European architecture, music,  art of the 17th and 18th centuries, was the inspiration with Indian touches behind this collection. Long flowing dresses, short dresses, jackets, pants were a part of this collection. Rahul Mishra played alot with sheer fabrics for detail-work  & drapes in this collection.

The colours were primarily black & white with hints of reds & blues. The collection had a very red carpet feel to it………..loved the knee length dresses which will be a sure ‘hit’ among celebrities. Overall the collection was done well creatively & the detailing was commendable especially in jackets.

RahulM2 RahulM3 RahulM4

Ranna Gill

RannaG1

Designer Ranna Gill presented her Autumn/Winter 2013 collection at WIFW. The colour palette consisted of darker shades while detailing was kept limited to the neckline only. True to her form, Ranna played with alot of prints in her latest works. Flowy dresses, jumpsuits & sheath dress were the highlight of this collection………..these had a feminine appeal to it. IFP felt the dresses looked very beautiful on the runway…..infact very ‘lady like’ is how I can describe the outfits.

I am happy that this collection was way better than Ranna’s previous works. It has less embellishment while more focus was put on the fit of the outfit. The outfits were very chic, glamorous and stylish. IFP gives a thumbs up to Ranna Gill’s recent offering & would love to see people don these outfits.

Day 3 at WLIFW Autumn/Winter 2013

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on March 16, 2013

I am in love with the designs this season. The works of designers is so fresh and alluring……….it was definitely hightime people got their grey cells working overtime to churn out some of their best works. Creatively I am satisfied after seeing the firt 2 days of WIFW. Catch more photos from WIFW on IFP’s Facebook page here.  Here is your low-down of Day 3…..

IFP loved these designer colllection………

Manish Malhotra

MM3

The designer is back with his new collection ‘Threads of Emotion’ which was inspired by the beautiful land known as ‘Punjab’ in Northern India. The collection had Phulkari & Bagh work on the silhouette combined with velvet detailing. The collection included shawls embroidered in Bagh’, saris, anarkalis, floor length anarkalis and angarakhas. For menswear there were bandhgalas and structured clothes. The primary fabrics used are georgette, net and raw-silk, and there is a lot of texture work. Bright colours were infused with serence greys, blues & blacks.  The models were dressed like people of Punjab, where the female models had their hair braided with parandhis………loved this traditional look.

Phulkari is woven out of resham dhaga [silk threads] and is usually given as gift to the bride-to-be on the engagement day. This famous weave is a speciality of Patiala city in Punjab…………it is also the place from where I hail from. So seeing this exquisite work on the runway had me feel proud of the rich heritage of my birth place. This collection was unique & the theme was ‘never done before’ on the Indian runway. I am delighted to say that Manish Malhotra has managed to move from his signature style to create an entire new collection. This collection brought back my beautiful memories of searching Phulkari on the streets of Patiala. Kudos to the designer for showcasing something so traditional in such a fabulous manner. Loved this collection which was aptly titled as ‘Threads of Emotion’.

Day 2 at WLIFW Autumn/Winter 2013

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on March 15, 2013

On Day 1, one got to see so much of creativity on the runway. New designs, themes and lovely outfits of course………….let us browse through how creatively satisfying was Day 2.

IFP loved these designer collection………

Shantanu & Nikhil

S&N2

Designer duo Shantanu-Nikhil named their recent collection ‘Sand Dunes’ showcased at WIFW. The desert was their inspiration in which they added hints of colour to create this beautiful collection. I thought the designers could belt out fine western attires, but was delightfully proven wrong when I saw this collection. The soft pastels with touches of dark brown, navy blue & orange were the primary colours used to define their work. The collection had a ranhe of tops, flowy lehengas, anarkali, jumpsuit, skirts, jackets for women while menswear consisted of bandhgala, formal jackets, shirts & pants. The look was completed with handbags, laptop bags, clutch from S&N label.

IFP loved this collection as it was different from the designer duo’s earlier works. The monochrome designs, the use of sheer fabric, cut-work patterns with pop of colour here & there. The collection had the elements of beauty, class and imagination……..IFP admires the fact that Shantanu-Nikhil strive to create & present something new every single season. Seeing theirs modern touches to Indianwear was an absolute delight…..two thumbs up for their fabulous work.

S&N3 S&N4 S&N7

Anju Modi

AnjuM5

‘Steel Magnolia’ a collection by designer Anju Modi who is making waves in the celebrity world as well, presented her latest works at WIFW. Anju has tried to portray a serene image of a woman who might appear fragile from the outside but is definitely made of steel from the inside. The strength of a woman was projected fabulously in Anju’s recent collection. As defined by her, she has tried to combine dark colours with softer hues & pashmina combined with zari work. Many animal motifs like parrot & elephants along with floral details were seen in the embroidery as well in print. Angrakha style jackets, voluminous lehengas, army style jackets with exaggerated shoulders, printed sarees, long sleeve blouses & bandhgala were a part of her collection.

I liked the styling of models who donned army style hats……even the designer herself could not resist walking the runway in the same get up as the models. This collection was very different from her earlier works seen at the Bridal Couture Week. /one got to see many shades of Khaki highlighted with bright colours while detailing was kept limited to the hemlines only. ‘Rich’ is how I can describe Anju’s latest offering and it will be amazing to see these outfits on the red carpet & big screen soon.

AnjuM1 AnjuM2 AnjuM4

Tarun Tahiliani

TarunT4

The sarees in this collection named as  ‘The Kumbhback Collection’  were splendid, true to his art Tarun experimented with a lot of drapes in this collection also. Tarun’s latest works were inspired by his recent visit to Kumbh Mela.   The asymmetrical tops & skirts felt rather incomplete, the menswear on the other hand was better than Tarun’s previous collection. Churidhar sleeves, velvet jackets, use of stole, detailing at the hemlines were few features of this collection. I was not in much awe of the western attire in this collection.

Overall I loved this collection for the warm colours and wished to see more Indian attire. The saree draping were absolutely unique……..a la ‘Tarun Tahiliani’ style. Also liked the neck pieces used in this collection.

TarunT6 TarunT5 TarunT3

IFP liked these designer collection too……

Few pieces seen on the runway did look beautiful but I was not a fan of the entire collection. The collection which I liked were

Day 1 at WLIFW Autumn/Winter 2013

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on March 14, 2013

Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2013 started in New Delhi yesterday. And looking at the list of designers who will showcase their work simply makes me even more eager to look forward to new fashion in store for us. IFP takes you through the Day 1 at WLIFW and reviews the collections which we adored & few IFP felt failed to create an impression.

Collections IFP loved on Day 1 were………..

Masaba Gupta for ‘Satya Paul’

MasabaSP4

I was excitingly looking forward to see Masaba’s new designs for the fashion house ‘Satya Paul’ and boy I am glad that the show was fashionably so fabulous. The colours as predicted earlier for this year by IFP were Sorbet & Neons combined with metallic grey, black & white. There was a range of prints in form of lipstick, abstract art, ink blot stain, phone booth door & even city map blueprints……imagine these on a saree. Now that was something new seen on the Indian ramp & new is what we absolutely love.

The collection had a range of sarees combined with contemporary blouse, sheath dresses, long skirts, short dresses all had been styled with a jacket or cape. The printed suitcase, vanity case as well as handbags served the purpose of accessories on the ramp. Neon suspenders with a saree…….. that had me surprised for sure. The looks of the models had dark eyes & neutral lips with hair pulled back in a pony. Overall IFP likes the new look of Satya Paul sarees this season and the contemporary designs by designer Masaba were commendable.

MasabaSP2MasabaSP1MasabaSP3

Vineet Bahl

VineetB1

The show started with soft pastels making their way on the runway…….Chikankari kameez combined with wide leg Pakistani salwars which I admit had not been seen at fashion weeks for quite some time. Short Anarkalis, hemlines with black velvet & gotta, floral print dupattas, printed sarees with shimmer blouse, velvet cholis with pastel lehenga………all of these looked very beautiful and I was left admiring this collection. It reflected the pre-independence era where elegance stood out in a women’s dressing style. The embroidery details were very alluring and thankfully not over the top. Vineet Bahl has impressed me with the beauty of this collection.

VineetB2 VineetB3 VineetB4

Pankaj & Nidhi

P&N1

Designer duo Pankaj & Nidhi’s new collection ‘The Music Box’ inspired by the musical instruments had bright colours infused with black. The collection consisted of dresses, cape style tops, jumpsuits, pencil skirts, sheath dresses, wide leg pants. Most of these I loved the sheath dresses that were so ‘red carpet’…..would love to see celebrities don these outfits. The dresses were combined with ‘Mary Jane’ shoes, a belt & slick back neat hairdo. Detailling was limited to peplum and asymmetrical trail. The designs stood out, the colours were fascinating and the look spelt ‘sophistication’. IFP gives a thumbs up to this creative collection by Pankaj & Nidhi………..I am sure we would get to see many outfits from this collection at future celebrity events.

P&N2 P&N3 P&N4

IFP liked these collection……….

‘Indian Fashion Police’ also liked the collection of these designers. The collection were beautiful but few pieces missed the element of ‘surprise’. So these collection were just near to perfection but looked like an extension of their earlier collection.

Other designers who have not featured in this reviews is because their collection left me desiring for more in terms of new designs & patterns. I found their work very repetitive and could not find anything ‘out of the box’ in their creative works.

Nikasha Tawadey

Nikasha1

Nikasha’s vintage inspired ‘Raat ki Rani’ was divided in 2 sections w.r.t colours. The first one had ample of pastel hues while the second edition had loads of bright colours. Shimmer, sequin details & brocade were highlighted in this collection. Really liked the dhoti salwars which were combined with short kurtis. Overall the outfits in this collection were fabulous but the ‘fit’ in few needed a relook especially the kurtis. Also was not crazy about the velvet salwar.

Namrata Joshipura

NamrataJ2

Metallic and sequins were the highlight of Namrata’s collection ‘Wings of Desire’. The collection done up primarily in black had colour in form of sequin details. The look was very gothic in this collection which had a range of pants, dresses, skirts, tops and gowns. I do like this collection but few pieces were seen in Namrata’s previous collection as well.

WLIFW Spring/Summer 2013 – Day 5

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 11, 2012

IFP’s choice for Day 5 at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week are as follows:

Joy Mitra

Joy Mitra’s  “An evening at the Town Hall” was inspired by colonial India. Pastels were combined with red, black & golden colours. Indo-Western fusion had dresses, lehengas, cholis, anarkali, tops & culottes. Joy got me on the way he mixed the colours and the rich embroidery work. The collection was classic and IFP liked it.

Ritu Kumar

Ritu Kumar was the designer for the Finale at WLIFW……..the creations were pretty dark……….literally. Ritu Kumar incorporated floral prints in the outfits for the very first time that I can remember. The colour palette was kept in darker hues, black was prominent as the base colour. Gotta combined with velvet were incorporated on the hemlines and cuffs will thread-work was kept minimal. Lace & sheer fabric was used in the sleeves & bodice. Jackets, Anarkali, Lehengas and sarees made way to the runway. This is the first time I am seeing Ritu Kumar move away from her conventional works……….I did find some pieces a bit overwhelming with too much of detailing but I am sure these would look amazing if toned down with pieces that do not have any detail-work. Overall this change surprised me but in a pleasant manner. IFP does like the creations which had the element of darkness but also the beautiful creative touch by the designer.

WLIFW Spring/Summer 2013 – Day 4

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 10, 2012

IFP picks it’s choice for Day 4 of  Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week.

Gauri & Nainika

How do these talent women do it every single time……………that is what I am left wondering. Such elegance, such class, such sharpness……..the gowns & dresses with amazing fit and the eye-catching drape detailing. this collection primarily done up in black & white was indeed splendid. Since the colour was limited to 2 shades only, it was essential to get the look right. The designer duo used peplum and frill in different styles. Layering was used to add dimension to the shoulders, waist and hemlines of the outfit. IFP loved this collection and they do justice when it comes to couture inspired by the west.

WLIFW Spring/Summer 2013 – Day 3

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 9, 2012

IFP’s choice on Day 3 of Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week are

Nachiket Barve

Designer Nachiket Barve’s latest collection ‘Hacienda’ which means ‘Estate’ in Spanish also a kind of luxury meant for few lucky ones……..Nachiket’s designs surely made the meaning clear. The colourful fabric with floral detailing my favourite being the orchid floral designs as well as the South American motifs. the colours reminded my the delicious Mexican & Spanish cuisine with plenty of ‘Avacado’ greens, ‘Lemon’ yellow, ‘Chilly’ Green and hot ‘Paprika’ reds with touches of blue & purple. The collection included one shoulder dresses, cocktail outfits, sarees, pants, bolero jackets and flowy skirts. Overall I liked the works for the colour factor though there were few pieces which required a better fit.

‘Dozakh’ by Karthikeya & Isha

‘Lace’ a fabric used in abundance by designer duo Karthikeya & Isha reminded me of ‘Evita’ somehow. Maybe the elegant silhouettes worn by the women of that era where lace was a favourite. The collection had plenty of dresses, skirts and gown with a regal touch. IFP liked this collection for the mere fact that it had a very ‘Victorian’ feel to it. The creations were straight forward and looked beautiful on the runway.

Alpana & Neeraj

Designer Duo Alpana – Neeraj defined symmetry in a beautiful manner. With the geometric designs taking form of cutwork and three dimensional prints on dresses took a life of their own on the runway. Inspired by the winter season, the collection had all plenty of icy blues, pristine whites, festive reds and  cold grey colour. The collection consisted mainly of cocktail dresses and gowns with few pants & tops. IFP likes this collection for the fit and the use of geometric patterns in their designs. A collection which stands out makes IFP’s list……………Alpana – Neeraj did a fine job and hope to see their collection on the red carpet soon.

WLIFW Spring/Summer 2013 – Day 2

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 8, 2012

IFP picks the favourite designer collection showcased on Day 2 of Wills Lifestyle Indian Fashion Week.

Manish Malhotra for MIJWAN

The Mijwan collection for WIFW saw the return of earthy, subdued tones like Ivory, burnt Orange, Crème, dull shades of Red, Pink and the likes. The collection embraced the traditional but popular embroidery work – Chikankari. The intrinsic needlework work was done exclusively by the Mijwan girls adopted by Manish. The embroidery gets its effect from the variety of stitches and different grades of threads used to form the beautiful patterns. This, teamed with the stunning and immaculate designs by Manish has been instrumental in the creation of some exquisite ensembles. Actress Parineeti Chopra was the show-stopper for Manish. We had witnessed these collection a few weeks earlier which IFP did like for the noble purpose of preserving traditional crafts of these beautiful designs.

Anaikka by Kanika Saluja

Anaikka by designer Kanika Saluja had an element of edginess in it. The grunge inspired outfits did manage to look fashionable on the runway. Loved the way metallic detailing was combined so beautifully with the soft fabrics. The collection had jumpsuits, dresses, pants, kaftans and short dresses which ranged from yellow to magenta. IFP loved the outfits with metallic work on darker hues………….the metallic skirt combined with a simple top was my favourite. Loved the way designer Kanika made this collection look so red carpet worthy………..grunge is a trend which is not easy to carry off, but Kanika made the outfits look effortless. IFP likes this recent collection by Anaikka for sure.

Schon by Sakshee Pradhan

Sakshee Pradhan might be an upcoming designer but her feminine collection of dresses and gowns did catch my eye. The colours were limited to pastels with a touch of shimmer & satin. Cigratte pants, cocktail dresses and evening gowns were a part of this collection. I liked this collection for the fact that it was not ‘over-the-top’ in terms of detailing. Western wears rely on drapes and fit more than on embroidery……I could find good fit as well as soothing colours on the runway. Actrss & model Diana Penty was the show-stopper in a peach net gown. IFP liked this collection and would look forward to seeing more of Sakshee’s work in future but require more elements of glamour in her next collection.

AM:PM by Ankur & Priyanka Modi

Ankur & Priyanka Modi who are the children of eminent designer Anju Modi, presented their Indo-western collection. The collection consisted of knee length dresses, shirts, jackets, pants and tops. IFP did like the asymmetrical detailing in tops and skirts along with the outfits which had bodice embroidery work in black. The collection was different from the rest and had a very vintage sort of appeal. IFP likes their work for the elegance displayed in their designs.

IFP also liked few pieces from other designer collection but is still on fence about the entire collection.

WLIFW Spring/Summer 2013 – Day 1

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 7, 2012

Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week started off yesterday in New Delhi and IFP is looking forward to see the leading designers of our country showcase their finest works. IFP reviews the first day of this event and picks out it’s favourite for the day.

Anand Kabra

Designer Anand Kabra presented his Spring/Summer 2013 collection which had muted colours unlike his earlier works. The collection was a mix of western & Indian wear………though not very fond of the few pieces from his western wear outfits, but love the flowing lehenga skirts paired with cutwork detailing cholis. The light fabrics are perfect for the summer season but what I really liked was it was effortlessly stylish. If you plan to go on a resort wedding, then do take a sneak peek at Anand’s latest offering.

North-East show by Atsu Sekhose

As time passes by I have realised that designer Atsu Sekhose is a talent powerhouse and this collection confirmed my thoughts yet again. The Ministry of Textile along with designer Atsu presented this colourful soiree titled ‘The North-East Show’. Atsu who himself belongs to the ‘North-Eastern’ part of India, had created beautiful pieces from Assamese silk & cotton to form jackets, tops, pants, skirts and dresses. Why we liked the collection?………….such a work to be created out of hand-woven fabrics is amazing. I have seen Indian-wear created out of handloom fabrics……but this collection defied all odds.

Rohit Gandhi & Rahul Khanna

Glitter here and there did catch my eye in Rohit Gandhi-Rahul Khanna’s latest collection. The flowy fabrics had loads of detailing on the bodice & shoulder part. The collection had evening wear outfits like cocktail dresses, skirts, trousers and jackets. The styling of the models was 1950’s, colours in pastels & sherbet orange with black, grey & golden sequin details. IFP is sure that these outfits will surely make their way in the wardrobes of celebrities and on the red carpet. This was ‘Art’ combined with the element of ‘Glamour’.

Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week 2012 – Grand Finale

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on February 20, 2012

New Collection, new designs that have been inspired by every walk of life. The Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week ended with a Grand Finale by designer JJ Valaya who simply mesmerizes with his work everytime it is presented on the runway. This time around there was an array of colors in the Valaya ‘Azrak’ collection that ranged from whites to golds to dark blues. The western outfits were done in lighter hues where as Indian wear had richer colors. The beautiful ‘Alika’ jackets which are my favorite, were teamed with sarees. JJ Valaya had Celebrities like Navin Ansal and designers like Suneet Varma, Rohit Bal take the ramp in his menswear collection. Bandhgalas, Jacket and Jodhpuris were designed in velvet, cotton, wool and gabardine with touch of monochromatic prints. Valaya never falls short of making a person feel like royalty which is how each of the celebs walking down the runway looked like. The collection was inspired by the ‘Ottoman’ era of Turkey and jewels were very ethnic India. Here is a look at JJ Valaya’s latest designs which is sure to sweep you off your feet.

Actress Kangana Ranaut graced the Grand Finale as show-stopper for designer JJ Valaya in a maroon velvet ‘Alika’ jacket looking every bit like royalty.

Rehane

Imagine combining khaki and pink colors to create a new outfit………..sounds tricky but that is what designer Rehane did for her latest collection. Silk, lace, cotton were used in khakhi color with pink detail work in a collection of tunics, short dresses, skirts, pants, top & jackets. IFP likes this collection for it’s simplicity and elegance, definitely better than Rehane’s previous collection showcased last year.

‘Mynah’ by Reynu Taandon

Designer Reynu Taandon surprised the audience with actor Govinda & his daughter Narmada walking in as show-stopper for her. This is the very first time Govinda is seen on the ramp but what made it special was the fact that he was accompanied by his daughter. Father-Duo looked good in Reynu’s creation. The collection mostly had black as the base with metallic colors & details used for the glam effect. Chiffons, cotton lycra, georgettes, leather were used in creating the outfits and the collection  was alot like ‘jungle meets the city’ since the tribal motifs, the stripes, cut-out leather spots were seen in many outfits. IFP does like the collection for it’s red carpet appeal.

Our pick of Day 4 of WIFW

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 13, 2011

Day 4 had me confused with eminent designers, few which were also my favourite were to display their creations on the runway. But after seeing the collection, Atsu Sekhose’s collection comes out as a clear winner. The beautiful floral detail work on sheer fabric looks absolutely stunning. Yellow might just be the ‘new white’ this summer season as one might get to see in Atsu’s creations as well. Here is what the alluring collection looked like.

Our pick of Day 3 of WIFW

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 13, 2011

I must say that the availability of photos of Wills Lifestyle Fashion Week is not easily found plus bloggers like moi never get any answers back whenever we want to display the pics from the events. I am disappointed but one seeing the beautiful collection of Nikasha Tawadey, my woes disappear. Florals and birght summer hues are the essence of Nikasha’s latest collection…….the light shades are perfect for the next summer season. The collection was fresh and feminine which makes Nikasha our pick of the Day 3 of WIFW. Here is your look at the collection.

Ankur & Priyanka Modi had to be our pick of Day 2 at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week – Spring 2012. Our Pick on Day 1 of WIFW

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 10, 2011

Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week started on 8th of this month in New Delhi. Indian Fashion Police will pick out favourite from each day of the fashion week. For day 1 my choice had to be Gauri & Nainika for bringing ‘Vintage’ back in a fashionable way…………especially in western wear. The hot bright colours with the perfect cut & fit would make every woman look stunning. The collection had a range of skirts, jumpsuits, pants, knee-length dresses with trendy hats to compliment the look. It was by far the most eye-catching collection I got to see on the opening of the WIFW.

My Verdict: Many celebs will be seen wearing the outfits from this fashionable collection for sure. ‘Vintage’ never looked this sexy.
