Green Carpet at IIFA 2013

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on July 7, 2013

IIFA Awards 2013 started in Macau this past weekend. ‘Indian Fashion Police’ brings you the lowdown of the looks on the green carpet of this event.

IIFA-Deepika

Deepika Padukone looked uber hot in a¬†coral floral all-over metallic beaded chiffon wrap-front gown from Naeem Khan’s Spring 2013 collection. Have to say that she has found the perfect designer in Naeem……….with his stylish designs, Deepika can seldom go wrong. Love this look on her.

IIFA-Deepika2

Deepika was also spotted in a Naeem Khan outfit at the IIFA technical awards as well. The beaded top was paired with pants that had a skirt overlay and was a unique choice for the red carpet. What was right that Deepka took a risk which was paid off with the correct styling. Demure choice…….ladies please learn few lessons here. ūüėČ

IIFA-Madhuri

Madhuri Dixit opted for soft pink & blue ‘Manish Malhotra’ anarkali for the IIFA Technical Awards. The outfit spoke loads about style on the red carpet and did not need much styling….the light colours looked beautfiul on Madhuri. Like this look for sure.

IIFA-Madhuri2

Jade by Monica & Karishma designed Madhuri’s outfit for the main IIFA awards. Though I love the black & golden combination of this lehenga but the drapping part spoilt this look entirely. Wish would have drapped it in a more neater way rather than kust putting the pallu over in a jiffy. The hair & the jewels were glorious with this outfit.

IIFA-Anushka

Anushka Sharma was dressed in ‘Roberto Cavalli’ gown in white but the no accessories look felt too plain for a glamorous event. The hair too was lame as was the missing bling. A white pristine gown is a perfect canvas to experiment with matt gold jewellery or colour stone. Add some glam factor to this look Anushka……

IIFA-Sridevi

Sridevi opted for a sequin studded off shoulder gown for the big nite and boy did she look awesome on the green carpet. The side swept hair, stone embellished clutch, red lips and a pose to match said it all. This is how one should look on the red carpet…….Absolutely Glam!!!

IIFA-Neha

Neha Dhupia always stands out in a stylish manner at any event………….even at IIFA she was no exception as she walked the green carpet in ‘Anamika Khanna’ anarkali paired with black pants. The lace detailing of the outfit was elegant ¬†and Neha kept the jewellery to the minimal. The hair ¬†& the make-up blended well with this look………..Adore it on her.

IIFA-JAc

Jacqueline Fernandes also went all glam in this ‘Roberto Cavalli” outfit in shimmer gold. Love the vintage Hollywood-style hair that gave alot of focus on the d√©colletage area. For the event this look is definitely one of my favourite.

IIFA-Amrita

Amrita Rao in a shimmer gown as well failed to make any impression in this outfit. The hair was messy & not stylish, there was nothing new in her make-up and the look was devoid of any eye-catching accessory. Need Amrita to find her signature look.

IIFA-Vidya

OK we have seen Vidya don Sabyasachi looks on the red carpet but watching similar looks over & over again is not that exciting at all. ¬†Even in Sabyasachi’s recent collection there is so much of beautiful colours & designs………..so why not opt for those Vidya instead of sticking to dull colours. As for IIFA, Vidya is wearing ‘Sabyasachi’ ¬†lehenga.

IIFA-Huma

¬†Huma Qureshi decided to go black in this outfit by designer ‘Nikhil Thampi’ ………..not at all excited about the accessories which Huma opted for with this dress. I do like Huma’s hair & make-up but the nude lips with the chunky cuff & nude peep toes did nothing much to call this look amazing. So much experimentation in terms of shoes & accessories could have been done on this silhouette….sigh!!

IIFA-Lisa

Lisa Haydon in ‘Namrata Joshipura’ gown………something in this outfit reminds me of the term ‘Gothic’ ¬†but Lisa manages to make this look good on the green carpet. The braided hair compliments the look perfectly………..like it.

IIFA-Divya

Divya Dutta made a pretty picture in red saree at the IIFA awards…….even though this might not be the best look seen till date, Divya does look beautiful in this saree and this one of the good looks seen on Divya in a long time.

IIFA-Minissha

Minissha Lamba in ‘Ayesha Depala’ gown which had feather touch, was paired with a metallic belt. The look was not that great and wish Minissha would have opted for another outfit altogether………..this one made her look more like a blanket than glamorous.

IIFA-Shahid

IIFA-Shahrukh

What is the most common mistake that Indian actors make when they are dressed on the red carpet………they forget or absolutely ignore to shave off the unnecessary stubble when they are wearing a Tuxedo. Please go all clean when one wants to wear a tuxedo on the red carpet……….cleaner the look the better dressed one looks.

IFP is in awe of this entire look which was not over the top blingy yet had sophistication written all over. LOVE!!!

Red Carpet at TOIFA 2013

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on April 7, 2013

Times of India Film Awards or better known as TOIFA was held this weekend in Vancouver, Canada. IFP gets you a glimpse at the red carpet of TOIFA and how our stars fared on it.

TOIFA-ASHABHI

Abhishek & Aishwarya pose on the red carpet at TOIFA complimenting each other’s style in Indian wear. Aishwarya was dressed in a green anarkali by ‘Sabyasachi’ while Abhishek was spotted in a bandhgala. As a couple they looked nice but I still¬†believe¬†this look would have been much more glamorous.

TOIFA-Nargis

Nargis Fakhri dressed in a glittery ‘Komal Sood’ gown posed in style. On someone else the gown would have been a total wash-out but Nargis looked ‘Hot’…………..especially the¬†fuchsia¬†pink lips.

Toifa-Pri2

Priyanka Chopra dazzled in a black & golden ‘Arpan Vohra’ outfit at TOIFA………..this one is definitely one of her best red carpet looks. The dress is sexy, her side swept hairstyle is fashionable and the make-up is beautiful. Wish Priyanka would continue these amazing red carpet appearances in future too.

TOIFA-Neha

Neha Dhupia knows how to work a ‘Sabyasachi’ outfit. IFP loves her military inspired look which was definitely a tough one to carry but Neha pulled this look off with sheer elegance. The pulled back hair, flawless make-up and minimal accessories…….. ūüôā ūüôā

TOIFA celbration

Ileana D’cruz shares a joke with Prabhudeva on the red carpet………here I actually felt that Prabhudeva looked way better than Ileana who is usually dressed perfect. Maybe this was her day off………………not liking the gown or styling of this look. ūüė¶

TOIFA celbration

Ranbir Kapoor has finally heard IFP’s plead to woo us on the red carpet…………….the man looked dapper in a three piece suit and trimmed stubble. This is definitely how we want a star to be seen on the red carpet. IFP has got at least this wish fulfilled………sigh!!

TOIFA-SG

Shahrukh & Gauri Khan wanted to paint the town red………..well at least their appearance did feel like that. Shahrukh finally opted for some colour by wearing a maroon dinner jacket while Gauri wore a ‘Tarun Tahiliani’ saree. I do like ¬†Gauri’s hairstyle which is a refreshing change & it works with this outfit.

TOIFA-Aditi

Aditi Rao Hydari in a ‘Gauri & Nainika’ gown could have been a match made in fashion heaven…………..unfortunately the reverse happened. I cannot pin point if it was the shiny fabric or the colour that did this look in……..wish the gown would have been in¬†fuchsia colour. Maybe it would have worked……………at least for now this look spelt¬†disaster.

TOIFA-Anushka

Anushka Sharma wore a suit again on the red carpet…………not that IFP has any complains since she looked so good with those hair bangs & red lips. Anushka was the ‘Host’ for the evening along with Ranbir Kapoor so I think they had a dress code to follow for this event……….but a fabulous girl like her deserves to be seen in couture gowns & Indian-wear………there is always a next time.

L’oreal Paris Femina Women Awards 2013

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on March 20, 2013

Starting since 2012, L’oreal Paris & Femina magazine have collaborated to honour Indian women who have made a difference to our society by their work. Women who have been achieved extraordinary feats in their lifetime were nominated for these awards. IFP takes you through the red carpet of this event held in Mumbai.

LFWA-Ash

Take a beautiful ‘Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna’ gown, have hair & make-up done………then pop in a day wear blazer to spoil the entire look………..that is what Aishwarya did at the event. Aishwarya who is always impeccably dressed seems to be eager to cover up her post baby body. It is a personal choice, but please don’t wear clothes that look like a tent on the red carpet. ¬†Seriously I am disappointed this time around.

LFWA-Sonam

Sonam Kapoor dressed in ‘Atsu Sekhose’ gown and vintage hair + make-up walked the red carpet at the event. Though the lace bodice combined with printed skirt might not appeal in the very first look, but the styling got me convinced that Sonam did look beautiful. Love her shoes which were so understated but so fashionable.

LFWA-Aditi

Aditi Rao Hydari was dressed in ‘Anand Kabra’…….the hair & make-up teamed with the short anarkali looked good on Aditi but it was the salwar that bothered me. I wish Aditi had combined these anarkali with a pair of straight leg pants rather than these voluminous salwar.

LFWA-Mini

Mini Mathur decided to ditch her saree look and opt for a western look in this sheath dress which she combined with a ‘Bottega Veneta’ clutch, a funky neck-piece and golden heels. Black¬†stilettos¬†might have looked better with this outfit but Mini was able to carry this look of well.

LFWA-Neha

Neha Dhupia combined 2 designer pieces together for this look. ‘Anaikka’ top that had detail-work on the neckline & ‘Ranna Gill’ skirt. Now that was something new seen on the red carpet and I must say that Neha looked really good on the red carpet. Only few people can take fashion risks on the red carpet, Neha is sure one of IFP’s favourite.

LFWA-Shabana

Shabana Azmi was the red carpet surprise of the evening as she walked in wearing a ‘Manish Malhotra’ outfit. Love her new hairdo which made her look so fresh……..Shabana donned a bright pink colour which women at her age might shy away from, She looked elegant and IFP is loving Shabana’s look for the evening.

LFWA-Richa

Richa Chadda wore golden shimmer ‘Vizyon’ outfit ¬†paired with matching heels………….I must say this is one of her good appearances on the red carpet since a long time. I do like her neat, sophisticated look which she worked well……..maybe a bit of ‘pop of colour’ was required but hey that is just me.

LFWA-Sakshi

Sakshi Tanwar also made an appearance at this event in a saree which had phulkari motifs at the border. Sakshi accessorized the look with earrings, kangan & a ring. She looked beautiful in this outfit and it is a relief that she stayed away from the usual beaded ‘soap opera’ style of saree.

LFWA-Vidya

Vidya Balan in her signature saree style attended the event but I am not in awe of her look which had too much printed combined in one outfit. The zari border print saree would have worked better if paired with a black blouse instead. Hope to see Ms. Balan in churidhar kurti look for a much awaited change.

Red Carpet at the Filmfare Awards 2013

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on January 21, 2013

58th Filmfare Awards were held at Yashraj studios in Mumbai. Ranbir Kapoor & Vidya Balan walked away with the leading actor awards, yet again. Annu Kapoor & Anushka Sharma took home the filmfare for their supporting roles while Barfi was awarded the ‘Best Film’ award. Many congratulations to the winners………….now getting back to our fashion business, Filmfare Awards are a big deal for fashionistas as it sets the tone for the year ahead in terms of celebrity fashion. IFP takes you through the red carpet of this event & reviews the fashion.

Filmfare-Deepika2

Deepika Padukone in a demure Prabal Gurung…….with a body like hers I feel she did absolute justice to this outfit. On anyone else this gown would have looked trashy but Deepika wowed me…….the fit, the cut [especially the cut work], sheer draping, ¬†no accessories, coral lips and hair tied up. Deepika is back to rule the red carpet for sure. Love it…….. ūüôā

Filmfare-Ileana

Ileana D’cruz wanted to shine for the big nite…..she did bag the ‘Promising Newcomer’ Award for her role in ‘Barfi’. This ‘Roberto Cavalli’ outfit reminds me of the glittery 1970s where sequins were very fashionable. Not a fan of this outfit, but Ileana did manage to tone the look down with tasteful jewellery, clutch & shoes ¬†to match.

Filmfare-Ranbir2

Ranbir Kapoor dressed in all black three piece suit which did look vintage especially the button detail on the jacket. I wish Ranbir would surprise us with much more fresher looks especially in Indianwear. The stubble & the all black attire is turning a bit boring. He is a fine actor of this generation, but would love to see him rock the red carpet too. SIGH!! ūüė¶ ūüė¶

Filmfare-Priyanka

Priyanka Chopra has been wearing alot of colour lately but never expected her to wear something so loud. The colour with so much of glossy sheen was simply over the top……..add the trail of the gown & we ¬†have a Prom Queen. Hate this look on Priyanka though neck up she did look very pretty but the outfit is altogether a different story. ūüė¶ ūüė¶ ūüė¶

Filmfare-Alia

¬†Alia Bhatt making a graceful appearance in ‘Manish Malhotra’ lehenga in which she looked pretty. But why opt for something so safe, why not experiment a bit with your style???

Filmfare-Anushka

Anushka Sharma made me remembered the 1960s era where the flower power was on its rise and the winged eye-liner trend at its peak. The canary yellow colour is lust worthy and the entire looks spells vintage. She is wearing a ‘Victoria Beckham’ gown. L-O-V-E in capital for this look………that aside, ¬†Anushka would look wonderful with a fuller figure though……what say people???

Filmfare-Chitra

Breaking away from the conventional lehenga & anarkali style, Chitrangada Singh made me proud in this ‘Anand Kabra’ outfit. The side swept braid, vintage jewellery and the colour all get browny points from IFP. Chitrangada has been a risk taker on screen as well off it and her style shows positive signs of the same.

Filmfare-Minnisha

Minnisha Lamba in a Krishna Mehta pastel outfit………….with the lack of some bright colour this look was a total wash-out on Minnisha. I wish she would have added the colour in form of jewellery or bright coloured lipstick. I did see this collection of Krishna on the runway and also liked it. But not liking the way this outfit was styled on Minnisha. Sigh…:-(

Filmfare-Neha

¬†Neha Dhupia wore a ‘Victoria Beckham’ outfit in black with hair accesories to highlight her look. I do like this look but wish she would have added some more drama to her look. The plain outfit of hers is like a canvas which Neha could have made look a lot more glamorous with addition of a belt to match her jewellery. ¬†Nonetheless simple look works as well.

Filmfare-Yami

¬†Yami Gautam in a ‘Tarun Tahiliani’ pastel lehenga…………waist up she does look pretty but it is the detailing on lehenga which was not needed. The corset type choli would have looked better if it was paired with a plain net lehenga. But hey, that is just me……….do you like this look of hers???

Filmfare-MAdhuri2

Madhuri Dixit Nene went all glam in this shimmer blue ‘Alberto Makali’ ¬† ¬†…………..she has taken a risk opting for this gown and unfortunately this one comes across as too flashy than classy for me. ¬†I wish she would have given one of those ‘Dior’ looks in which she looks heavenly………shimmer in subtle proportion looks good but too much can spoil the entire look.

Filmfare-PArineeti

Parineeti Chopra seems to be taking a liking to Gothic looks coz her ‘Rajat Tangri’ dress goes feel dark to me. On Parineeti the dress is a misfit…………just not feeling this satin attire. Wish Parineeti would have opted for a more colourful appearance that go all black in satin. I find this look totally dated. ūüė¶ ūüė¶

Filmfare-Sridevi

Sridevi in coral ‘Alberta Ferretti’ gown is a surprise for me……..fortunately it is a pleasant one. Though this might not be her best looks till date but the elegant manner in which she carries off this look is superb. Pairing the outfit with a Judith Leiber which works well with her outfit, IFP is happy to see Sridevi take risks. ūüôā ūüôā

Filmfare-Vidya2

Vidya Balan in her trademark ‘Sabyasachi’ saree posed along with her hubby Siddharth Roy Kapur. Though we have seen the check saree on her earlier too in a different design, I wish Vidya would opt for something out of the designer’s new collection. It is boring to see her don the same look while taking no risk. ūüė¶

Filmfare-Raveena

A cocktail saree in black & green looks beautiful………top it off with hairstyle with tight curls and you have a recipe for style disaster. That is exactly what Raveena Tandon did to this look. ¬†I do like her outfit but her hair……..please someone tell her hairstylist to have some mercy. ¬†ūüė¶

Filmfare-Urmila

Urmila Matondkar in her ‘Manish Malhotra’ style did manage to look good after a lonnnnnnggg time. She absolutely had me on the colour of her outfit plus the styling was in sync with her attire. Absolutely like this one ūüôā

Filmfare-Aditi

¬†Aditi Rao Hydari went the saree route in this Gaurav Gupta……….she looked amazing in this grey shimmer saree that gave a very gown like feel to the look. She kept the look understated with minimum accessories………one of the few looks given by Aditi. ūüôā

Filmfare-Shahana

¬†Amongst the celebrities who opted for traditional attire, Shahana Goswami was a delight to see. Dressed in a ‘Sabyasachi’ black lehenga, she did look glamorous and perfectly styled for the evening. The hair pinned up in a bun, the red lipstick and only earrings look works for me………what about you???

Manish Malhotra for Mijjwan

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on September 4, 2012

MANISH MALHOTRA DESIGNS AT MIJJWAN SONNETS IN FABRIC 2012

The third year of Shabana Azmi’s NGO, Mijwan Welfare Society, hosted a fashion show, Mijwan Sonnets in Fabric 2012 on 3rd September at the Grand Hyatt, Mumbai. The highlight was Mijwan’s female population had their craftsmanship showcased on ramp, by leading models and celebrities, through Manish Malhotra’s designs. The 2012 edition of the show showcased embroidery done entirely by the girls of Mijwan. Manish has translated work done by Mijwan girls into contemporary modern designs.

Three years ago Namrata Goyal and Shabana Azmi approached Manish to help them to promote the Mijwan Welfare Society. At the fundraiser for Mijwan Welfare Society an NGO that was founded by noted film lyricist Kaifi Azmi to empower the girl child, he was introduced to the chikankari work done by the Mijwan girls. He was very impressed by their amazing embroidery. It stands up to the highest standard of craftsmanship anywhere in the world. Manish has wanted to do some socially responsible work for some time and Mijwan provided him the perfect opportunity. Since a year and a half he has adopted Mijwan- a tiny village near Azamgarh UP, playing mentor to 55 women from rural India with regular work and input in embroidery. And boy are we impressed with their work.

Shabana Azmi and Namrata Goyal opened the evening with a talk   in aid of the Mijwan Welfare Society. Educationist Nita Ambani walked with two little girls :Shabanas niece Meghna from Bombay  and Babita from Kaifi Azmi s school in Mizwan  to support the cause. 20 Models and celebrities such as Priyanka Chopra, Sonakshi Sinha, Shraddha Kapoor, Prabhudeva, Ankita Shorey, Arjun Kapoor, Chirag Paswan, Chitrangada Singh, Dia Mirza, Imran Khan, Imtiaz Ali, Kalki Koechlin, Karan Johar, Kunal Kapoor, Malaika Arora Khan, Neha Dhupia, Parineeti Chopra, Prateik Babbar, Rohit Roy, Rohit Shetty, Sameera Reddy, Shahana Goswami, Shazanne Padamsee, Diana Penty, Mary Kom,(who got a standing ovation) etc  walked the ramp for the Mijwan Welfare Society. All the celebs were cheered on by the audience as they sashayed down the ramp in  Manishs creations that  reflected the beautiful  handiwork from Mizwan.

Guest who came forward to support the cause were Mukesh Ambani,  Adi and Parmeshwar Godrej, Poorna and Varsha Patel, Neeraj Bajaj, Bijal Meswani,Urmila Matondkar, Hard Kaur, Riya Sen, Poonam Dhillon, Satish Kaushik, Sheetal Mafatlal etc. The celebs on ramp too sportingly gave a huge round of applause for the guests who showed up the heavy downpour and Manish too was delighted that all the friends  on ramp and  from the audience had braved the rains to make it in support of the Mizwan Welfare Society.

‚ÄúIn the globalised world of Fashion today it‚Äôs pointless to offer silhouettes to the West. But we have craftsmanship which they do not. This is our USP and that’s what we need to focus on. Mijwan to me is a microcosm of what India has to offer the world. We have a long history of the warp and weft of design aesthetics. It‚Äôs time we rediscover ourselves and go back to our roots,‚Ä̬†says Manish Malhotra.

“The sangeet ceremony of the media magnate’s daughter in London chikankari work in the outfit designed by me has been done in Mijwan. It is a proud testament to Indian craftsmanship and it is heartening to provide regular work to these talented women “,   adds Manish.

Red Carpet Review – Zee Cine Awards 2011

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on January 16, 2011

Zee Cine awards¬†was one¬†of the biggest Bollywood award ceremony which was held outside of India. The venue for the event was the plush new¬†Marina Bay in Singapore. There were the whose who of Bollywood. So let’s glance at who won our hearts in the fashion department and who needed a desperate make-over from a stylist before stepping on the red carpet. Here is my review of the red carpet of the Zee Cine Awards 2011.

Deepika Padukone

Let me start the review with the young ‘new’ lot of the industry in short with Deepika¬†who was dressed in a one shoulder silver gown that had a fashionable knot¬†on the waist. Though I like the gown a lot and since the many past appearances of Deepika’s, I feel this is a step towards good style sense. But somehow hate the shoes and the clutch. Witha¬†gown like that, a pop of colour was very much desired here. I wish Deepika¬†would have opted for strappy¬†sexy¬†heels in silver and grey with black¬†Judith Leiber¬†clutch. I am sure that would have given this outfit a whole new dimension. Nonetheless, love the bold gown since suits Deepika’s frame¬†amazingly. My verdict : One thumbs up for the gown.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Aishwarya¬†Rai Bachchan¬†should ideally be the ‘Queen of International Red Carpet’ sinceI¬†seldom see her messing up with her looks on the International platform. This one too is no exception, since Mrs. Bachchan¬†is currently going thru with the ‘Manish¬†Malhotra’ phase and this outfit by far looks very elegant. The velvet trimmings are very subtle on the¬†rich golden brown colour fo the outfit.Plus the detail work¬† on the net silhouette is to die for. Plus minimal jewellery is the way to go. My Verdict : Absolutely Love it…………

Hrithik Roshan with wife Suzzane

The celebrity couple was dressed to kill¬†in black but unfortunately too much of black killed the ‘look’ that could have been. Seriously I have seen Hrithik¬†in that suit with the slim tie a numerous times and I need to see something new on him. Maybe same suit no tie or a different tie would have worked better. As for Suzzane, the black gown without any ‘bling’ is too boring. Some jewellery courtesy sister Farah would have helped a lot. My verdict : Way too simple and boring, need some glitter.

Sonakshi Sinha

Oh oh…….Where is the beautiful girl whom I had seen in ‘Dabangg’ gone and who has draped that lovely girl in that ‘curtain’ print ensemble………………..tsk, tsk,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,pity I’d say. I do agree this was the very first international platform that Sonakshi¬†was making her appearance but this outfit was not what a ‘fresh’ face like hers was expected to wear. I wish she would have gone for something more glamorous in a saree like a sequin¬†detail work¬†on¬†chiffon plus traditional jewellery. This outfit does not at all emphasize¬†her pretty face and true assets her eyes. As an actress I do like her a lot and know that she has potential to make it big.¬†My Verdict : Need more fresh and younger look for this pretty lady.

Rishi And Neetu Kapoor

Our favourite yester year star couple still make my heart go ‘Awww’ whenever I see them dressed to perfection on the red carpet. Neetu¬†Kapoor as elegant as ever dressed in a beige anarkali with those ‘ooh la la’ Ruby & diamond earrings looks like a ‘Diva’. Mrs. Kapoor can I please borrow those lovely earrings for a day……………….:-)¬†Mr. Kapoor Sr. took some effort this time to be dressed in a grey suit just wish he had not worn the tag card beneath his tie.My verdict : Lovely pair who ooze loads of ‘Kapoor’ Royalty……………….two thumbs up for them.

Arjun Rampal and Mehr Jessia

Arjun And Mehr Jessia also walked in wearing black but thankfully they were not boring. After a long time, I get to see both dressed appropriately with Arjun wearing a Shahab Durazi creation while Mehr went for a Monisha Jaising creation. Glamorous, smart and perfect for the occasion. Mehr did full justice to that dress given the amazing bod and looks she has. My Verdict : Two thumbs up for the lovely couple who look good together.

Prachi Desai

Prachi¬†Desai choosed¬†this maroon Gauri & Nainika¬†outfit but happened to mess¬† it up with lack of accessories on this plain ensemble that screamed for some glamour. With those pretty looks, Prachi¬†could have won every fashionista’s heart with a pair of chandelier earrings in diamonds plus a cuff, a fashionable clutch and glitzy shoes. Though these shoes equally do the job well………………the hair could have been tied up in a high set pony with the collar bones getting all the attention. If you have it flaunt it honey…………….why hide it and make it look like plain disastor. My Verdict:More experiment required here. Have fun while you are still young.

Neha Dhupia

Neha Dhupia was looking all glamed up like a doll for the event and must say that the lady is more surprising on the red carpet than on the screen. I am not fond on the frills on a gown unless it is a knee length dress but here they seem to give a slimmed down effect for Neha. Hair pulled back, jewels blinging bright and the dress fit to perfection works for me. My Verdict : Pretty, pretty and pretty.

Maharaja of Couture – JJ Valaya

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 1, 2010

‘Grandeur’¬†I suppose is the correct word that I use to describe JJ Valaya’s¬†creations, the richness in the detail work leaves me breathless at times whenever I see JJ Valaya’s¬†outfits on the ramp. He has for years kept up to his image of creating collection all of which have a lot of ‘Regal Air’ about them……………..I am sure if we still had Royalty ruling our Nation, JJ Valaya¬†would have been their official Designer. But for the neavue¬†rich, JJ Valaya’s¬†clothes do the work of adding the much-needed ‘Class’ to your wardrobe as well as style.

The designer born in the culturally rich Rajasthan, raised in a family with army background and travelled to different parts of India due to his father’s postings. He along with his brother TJ Singh¬†who looks after the operational part of the business started the label ‘House of Valaya’ way back in 1992 and since then there has been no looking back for this talented designer. His designs have won his accolades from around the globe…………….yet the designer stays down to earth as far as possible.

He is an alumnus of National Institute of Fashion Technology better known as NIFT, Delhi. He was the first Indian designer to win Prix D’ Incitation in the year 1990 which is an International¬†competition for young designer held in Paris. From 1993 onwards after the success of starting his first store, JJ Valaya expanding his business in India as well as abroad in London, Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong & Bangkok. He is also the only designer in India to have a single designer store of area as vast as 1 acre all to his creations…………pheeewww thats a lot of creations I must say.

He has dressed Bollywood also for starry occasions but he has¬†fashionistas chasing him¬†in order¬†walk down the runway wearing one of his creation. But only the stylish ones are choosen¬†to walk for him. Dimple Kapadia, Kabir Bedi, Neha¬†Dhupia¬†and most recently Kangana¬†Ranaut¬†have graced the runway for JJ Valaya. They have also worn his clothes off the ramp too. His creations have been worn by Victoria Backham on the cover of international ‘Vogue’ magazine.

Despite dressing up stars, JJ Valaya has focused more on expansion of his label and presenting newer collections to the audience. His designs have regularly featured in magazines and newspapers across India and every person up north and in west are very well aware of his name. His bridal collection is to die for with elaborate detail work and embellishment, my eyes are wide open with awe whenever he showcases his latest designs. His creations have amazing finishing along with smart styling does wonders on the runway. His mind is always looking out for new ideas which he can explore creatively that maybe his love for clothes, photography or art………….he does everything with passion.

He now has a range of brands under his belt : JJ Valaya Muse Рcreations prepared on request or customized, JJ Valaya РOpulent and timeless Luxury & Trousseau Collection, Valaya Home РSoft Furnishing for Home, Valaya Base РLuxury Ready to wear, Valaya Quantum РContemporary Indian wear.

Why have I chosen JJ Valaya¬†as the Designer of the Month???? The reason is simple enough since his creations are Original to the core, Classic yet very contemporary and absolutely Indian. He is one of the pioneer of our Indian¬†Fashion Industry and has helped to shape the same. I have seldom seen the fabulous creations that speak volumes about it’s creator. If I never wrote about JJ Valaya, I bet my teeny tiny blog will remain incomplete………………..need I say anymore. I hope his legacy continues forever…………….

I met him once only in my lifetime, even though people surrounded him for the renowned designer he is……………..must say he never showed off any airs and was very, very approachable. I believe he lets his work do the talking, rather than himself.

IIFA Awards 2010

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on June 4, 2010

IIFA Award 2010 РMain Event

IIFA Award 2010 main event was held in Colombo the capital city of Sri Lanka where many Bollywood stars walked down the green carpet and posed for the shutterbug.

Kareena Kapoor & Saif Ali Khan

The star couple Kareena¬†Kapoor and Saif¬†Ali Khan walked down the green carpet at the IIFA¬†Awards 2010. Kareena¬†was wearing a green and red Manish¬†Malhotra¬†couture saree where as Saif¬†Ali went in for a formal-casual fusion of blazer with denim. I might have never liked the blazer with denim style but Saif¬†makes an exception with this design on self pin-strip black blazer with a pop of colour in form of the red satin he has displayed on the side pocket of his blazer. The v-neck t-shirt with rugged blue denim and brown shoes plus belt are making his look ‘oh-so-fashionable’. I like Kareena¬†Kapoor in Sex and the City style of dresses but somehow this colourful saree is not doing justice to this wonderful actress. The work and design everything is rich………….no doubt but the look is not very alluring. Maybe the green carpet has something to do with it????¬†I prefer Kareena¬†more in¬†the western avatar in the photo below where she is wearing a where she was dressed a shimmer top over jeans. I dig that look even though it is red carpet inappropriate. Maybe it is just me……………

 Lara Dutta

Whoa……….Lara Dutta¬†in the 60s hairdo and a beautiful gown………do I need to say anymore.I think I do since I am not a fan of the 60s updo¬†but must say Lara Dutta¬†is pulling it off well. The gown is ‘magnificent’ with such intrisic¬†work on the each layer of the hemlines and the criss¬†cross fabric pattern on the waist. The accessories are well co-ordinated¬†with huge diamond and pearl earrings¬†with a golden clutch. This is a very red carpet look and I am happy that Lara not only looks like a glamorous super star but also classy. Lara Dutta I am a fan of your outfit…………..can you please lend me it for a day.

Bipasha Basu

This is wrong……………….this¬† is very wrong………………Bipasha¬†has always been my favourite on the red carpet but this does not seem to be the real Miss Basu.¬†This does not seem fashion forward nor it is elegant…………..The bright orange saree is an eye-sore but combining it with a hot fuchsia¬†pink halter neck blouse is a disaster. With the chunky bangles and the big red bindi, Bipasha¬†wanted to give a sexy look to the goan¬†ki gori¬†but could not do justice to the ensemble. Ms. Basu please go back to your original form…………..as much as I adore you I simply hate this look.

Salman Khan

The black suit is is very basic but what’s with the bright blue shirt and the black tie with a ‘Being Human’ message on it. I cannot see the ‘Salman’ style anywhere………….both the collar and the tie are hideous plus the colour blue are not doing any good to this dashing Star. The shiny blue shirt is a fashion crime…….better luck next time Salman.

Kangana Ranaut

The gown is pretty, the¬† detail work on the bustier of the gown is exquisite but the colour has totally disappeared¬†against the back drop of the green carpet. As forKangana, she looks every bit radiant in this outfit. The gown has a very elegant feel to it…………….two thumbs up for the dress but I wish if Kangana would have opted for another colour.

Neha Dhupia

Neha¬†seems to have come ready to chain a man from the IIFA¬†award. She wore a black saree which was draped in style of a gown with a black blouse covered with golden chains all over…………plus topped it off with a bold chain belt. The style was innovative but why it is not working coz it is too overdone. I can see chains and only chains in this outfit. This style would have looked amazing if Neha would have concentrated on showing off the belt or the blouse only.¬† Any stylist would know that overdoing one accessory kills the look.¬†

Anil Kapoor

Did someone forget to wear their coat for the event??? Yes Mr. Anil Kapoor just did that……..this outfit is incomplete and unfortunately looks incomplete without it’s blazer. Love the grey colour with the maroon polka dot tie………..but who convinced Anil to go without the blazer.¬†

Hrithik & Suzzane Roshan

Hrithik Roshan wore a black three piece suit with a plain¬†black tie………..I am missing a pop of colour in his attire. Maybe if he had added a different tie with this suit it would have worked much better. Plus Hrithik needs a haircut……. the all ruffled hair ………..I am not digging his tired look that much. Suzzane on the other hand wore a blue shimmer gown which was too much of glitter & not proper fit. These shimmer patterns ought to be given a defined necklines and fitted well especially at the waist to add that definition. The same colour waist belt is not doing much to make this outfit look glamorous. Though her silver clutch and shoes are pretty but the outfit is not desirable.

Fardeen & Natasha Khan

I have always loved seeing actors wearing Indian couture on the red carpet…………andseeing Fardeen in a bandhgala coupled with trousers sealed a smile on my face. He is looking handsome and a thorough Indian gentleman. Thank you Fardeen for wearing a bandhgala at IIFA Awards since all the actors seem to go western and ignoring the fact that ensemble like these can actually look better than a coat/suit. Natasha choose to wear a light blue and cream saree with a halter neck blouse. The saree should have been all in one colour but it compliments well with Fardeen’s clothes. All my browny point to Fardeen for this look.

Jacqueline Fernandez

Jacqueline wore a beautiful saree draped in style of an evening gown………..she looked every bit amazing like a ‘Diva’. The entire attire is beautiful, looks glamorous and she is able to carry it off well.¬†The accessories blend in well with her saree……love the fact that she is wearing only heavy earrings. Let the Saree with alluring detail work do the talking for her style…….two thumbs up for this pretty look.

Dia Mirza

I always look forward to see Dia Mirza on the red carpet………….I love the way this lady dresses up for the occassion. At IIFA 2010¬†Dia tried going in for avintage look which she can carry off effortlessly even though the dress is tad too simple. She has combined¬†vintage jewellery with this boring dress giving it a life of it’s own. The pulled back hair are neat and she has never looked prettier. I love this look where she has combined the contemporary with old time charm.

 Day 1

IIFA awards 2010¬†started of with a fashion show in Sri Lanka on 3rd June, 2010. The news is that many bigwigs of Bollywood are giving it a miss but from the looks at the green carpet I feel that there are going to be many attending the grand affair. We start off with the green carpet review……..¬†

Jacqueline Fernandez

Jacqueline Fernandez who is representative of her country Sri Lanka walked on the red carpet wearing shiny blue gown………..love the pattern of the gown. Even though people might not like the¬†colour for its flashiness¬†but I feel Jacqueline has been able to carry it of well.¬† The flowy long hair on the strap less gown with long earrings gives quite an oceanic feel to the entire look which as per Sri Lanka is perfect. On the whole I like this look which is glamorous but not over the top.

Bipasha Basu

Bipasha¬†Basu¬†wore a golden fringe all over short dress which had a very 80s look to it……………somehow this dress is not doing much to enhance this stunning actress body. We have seen Bipasha¬†experimenting her look for the red carpet and maybe we have got used to seeing her in ‘bold avatars’ rather than going simple. Nonetheless I am digging the shoes, they look fabulous though are quite a mismatch with this outfit since the colour black of the clutch and shoes are taking the emphasis away from her golden dress which is more in a matt tone. My verdict on this outfit : don’t like it much, she could have glamed¬†it up a bit with accessories and gone beige golden with her shoes and clutch since gold is the new black.

Lara Dutta and Mahesh Bhupati

Lara Dutta¬†walked in with beau¬†Mahesh¬†Bhupati¬†for the IIFA¬†Awards 2010 fashion show. Lara went in for a retro 80s look with this black and white Herve Ledge dress. The dress gets full marks from me since it is different form the rest of the crowd and of course Lara has the fabulous figure to carry it off well. But what is spoiling the look is her hideous oversized clutch and those ‘shiny disco ball’ black strappy¬†heels. I wish she had gone in for simple open-toe stilettos¬†and a¬†small black clutch with sequin¬†detailing with this chic outfit. As for Mahesh¬†Bhupati, dude you are standing next to one of Bollywood’s glamorous actress, you have to do better than combing a blazer with denim. This look is ‘out of fashion’ ………………..I would have preferred¬†a classic look¬†of white shirt with denim minus the blazer. They both can be a power couple but just have to work on their look together with a great stylist.

Sonakshi Sinha

I don’t have the full length photo of Sonakshi¬†Sinha¬†but from the looks of this pic Sonakshi¬†is looking stunning. The beige and golden outfit with a matching clutch is doing wonders on this young up-coming actress. The dress is short yet age appropriate with exquisite embroidery work all over plus sequin¬†work on the hemline. My say on this attire is simple, fresh and different. Am eager to see her on the red carpet in future………….

Anil Kapoor

¬†Even after many decades how does Anil Kapoor still manage to look so good has always been a mystery to me. He has kept on re-inventing himself, experimenting with his looks both on & off-screen. At IIFA awards he was dressed in a basic black suit with a stripe tie………….kinda reminded me of Robert Downey Jr. with that french beard look. Me like the suit, like the style and love the fact that he is always well-dressed for red carpet. Two thumbs up for this look……..Mr. Kapoor keep rocking for many more decades to come.

Salman Khan & Sonakshi Sinha on the Ramp

Salman Khan and Shatrugan¬†Sinha’s¬†beautiful daughter Sonakshi¬†Sinha¬†walked down the ramp for Manish¬†Malhotra¬†during the IIFA¬†Award 2010 fashion show. Salman Khan was in the avatar of his new upcoming film with Sonakshi¬†wearing an all black attire and a fake mustache though the mustache makes Salman look like a 50s era gentleman……..it suits him well. Sonakshi¬†wore a Lehenga¬†designed by the Manish¬†Malhotra. I do like Sonakshi’s outfit but her Dupatta draping could have been done better…………..the drape just looks as if done in a hurry. Sonakshi…glam up a bit, you are a pretty face………..no doubt.

Jacqueline walks the ramp with Kumar Sangakkara

It is always a delite¬†to see Bollywood and Cricket come together during fashion events…………….this being one of the most anticipated shows held at different location every year. Actress Jacqueline Fernandez walked with Sri Lankan¬†cricketer Kumar Sangakarra¬†in Manish¬†Malhotra¬†creation. I love the golden empire¬†waist kurta¬†that Jacqueline is wearing…………love the detailing on it but somehow the velvet lehenga¬†in navy blue colour¬†with purple plus golden gotta border are not blending in that well. Thankfully Jacqueline’s angelice¬†face is able to carry the dress off with an ease. Kumar is looking¬†good in a navy blue kurta¬†with golden detail work combined with white churidhar. On the ramp they both have made a pretty good impression.
