GQ Men of the Year Awards 2012

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 2, 2012

GQ ‘Men of the Year’ Awards which is an annual affair, was held in Mumbai and the celebs graced this event in their best attire. ‘Indian Fashion Police’ gets you a low down on who wore what and how did they fare??

Now somebody has been taking style tips from his fashionista daughters………Glad to see Anil Kapoor in a Tuxedo which he style with a muffler. The clean shave look definitely got browny points from my side………….love this sophisticated ‘Dolce & Gabbana’ look on this handsome man. ūüôā ūüôā ūüôā

Amitabh Bachchan who despite being unwell, walked the red carpet of this event in a Jodhpuri jacket. All I can say is that he has made the Jodhpuri jacket look so fashionable, do I need to complaint about it?? ūüôā ūüôā

Kajol who lately has been catching our attention for her amazing wardrobe choices, opted for a ‘Prabal Gurung’ satin dress. Though many bloggers were not in awe of this look, IFP felt that it was just the shoes which marred the look. I personally like the outfit and Kajol’s hair & make-up in this look. Ajay Devgan did look dapper in his suit and as a couple, I do like the pair very much. The only hitch is that Kajol’s outfit could have been styled better…… ūüė¶

Vidya Balan was again seen in a Sabyasachi saree in dual tone which we have seen something similar on Sridevi few weeks earlier. Vidya did look good but I wish she would have accesorised a bit. IFP thinks Sridevi made this look work much better which you can check here.

Deepika Padukone in a red hot ‘Gaurav Gupta’ lace gown which I can describe as ‘Vintage meets contemporary’. The gown with it’s sheer lace detailing to show off Deepika’s hot bod is soften by her vintage style hairdo. Thankfully Deepika kept other things to bare minimum……………..IFP loves this look of hers. ūüôā ūüôā ūüôā

It was a delight to see Konkona on the red carpet after ages especially when she looked so good in this saree combined with a print blouse. Handloom silks are not an easy one to carry off but Konkona does the job so effortlessly. IFP likes this look. ūüôā ūüôā

Siddharth Mallya surprised us by dressing in a white Tuxedo which on anyone else would have not looked so sleek. But that still leaves me with a question is why do men opt for white?? ūüėČ

John Abraham walked in hand-n-hand with Priya Runchal who looked fabulous in a red ‘Victoria Beckham’ gown will accesorising the rest in black. The soft curl hairdo and a smile are a sure winner on the red carpet…… for John who thankfully was dressed in formals did look good. But it was Priya al the way who won IFP’s style votes………….. ūüôā ūüôā ūüôā

Nargis Fakhri wowed the crowd in a Roberto Cavalli which she glamed up with a chunky necklace. The outfit fits her like a glove but it definitely has to be the accessories which get her a 10 on 10 score. IFP loves this look of Nargis. ūüôā ūüôā ūüôā

Jacqueline Fernandes opted for a Amit GT fish tail gown in black and boy did she make this outfit work. The hair is what I am crazy about……..sleek, pushed back hairdo which blended perfectly well with her look. No complains here ūüôā ūüôā

I wonder if Neil Nitin Mukesh just walked off from his film shoot and forgot to change his costume. Unfortunately that was not the case………..GQ did have it’s very own shiny disco ball the moment Neil walked in. Sad to see bad outfits sometimes happen to the most handsome faces. ūüė¶ ūüė¶ ūüė¶

Sarah Jane Dias was a vision in blue ‘AM:PM gown [Ankur Modi & Priyanka Modi]. The drape of the gown was beautiful and the hairdo of Sarah was alluring. IFP likes to see Sarah don the divalicious look at this red carpet. Perfect I say…… ūüôā ūüôā ūüôā

Dia Mirza wore an Anita Dongre saree in black & white but somehow this look did not stand out a bit. Wish Dia would have opted for a bright coloured saree instead of going for a safe route in black &¬†white. Missing the glamour quotient here . ūüė¶ ūüė¶ ūüė¶

Shazahn Padamsee wore a ‘Shivan-Naresh’ gown which IFP has no complains about. But absolutely disappointed with the big clutch which took away the emphasis from the dress. The outfit is perfect as Shazahn is young and can experiment with her looks for the red carpet but this entire look lacks good styling. ‘Yay’ ūüôā for the outfit but ‘Nay’ ūüė¶ for the styling & clutch.

Rahul Bose makes me smile¬†every time¬†he walks the red carpet. Maybe it has something to do with the ease he carries off any sort of fabric with style. He wore a velvet dinner jacket, which is not an easy thing to carry off but on Rahul the entire look works well. He kept the vest and trousers simple with a white bow-tie. Like it…….absolutely. ūüôā ūüôā

Kalki Koechlin wore a ‘Gaurav Gupta’ gown in golden but somehow this look of Kalki fell flat. The detailing on the bodice & it’s fit bothered me a whole lot. On someone who is a risk taker, it might have worked but Kalki kept her look absolutely simple. IFP thinks this look needed to be more daring in terms of styling. As for Anurag Kashyap……..thank you for ditching the denims. ūüėČ

Esha Gupta in a Rohit Gandhi-Rahul Khanna gown in give me the vibes of vintage inspired look. But in comes the shoes as spoilers. Esha did look pretty in this ensemble but the strappy sandals make me wonder if Esha had a good look in the full length mirror before stepping out. IFP ¬†thinks open toe pumps in neutral shade would have worked since gowns require ample of heel. ūüė¶ ūüė¶

Celebrities who work the ‘Gown’ trend

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on November 14, 2011

Bipasha Basu

Bipasha Basu should be known as ‘The Body’ of Bollywood as this lady has transformed herself¬† from flab to fab and continues to do better. She looked amazing on the red carpet whenever she has donned a gown…………she has the grace and of course the looks to carry off¬† this silhouette with utmost ease. Hence she makes it to our list of the Bollywood celebs who work the gown trend so fabulously.

Freida Pinto

Freida Pinto who has been making waves in Hollywood for her style and looks, definitely does justice to the ‘Gown’ trend. Her choices of designers as well as the color & the ‘fit’ of the gown. IFP does give 2 thumbs up for this lady who has the poise to carry off a gown¬†and is able to¬†woo¬†everyone on the International red carpet.

Dia Mirza

She might not have many Bollywood ‘hits’ under her belt, but she is definitely a ‘Hit’ when it comes to her look on the red carpet. She makes the simplest silhouette look amazing on the red carpet. The hair is perfect, the¬† jewelry awesome, the dress is gorgeous………..sheer perfection. That is why she makes it to this list.

Sonam Kapoor

Sonam made us proud with her¬†choice of ‘Jean Paul Gaultier’ gown¬†at the Cannes and continnues this trend at home too. Dress her up in any designer creation and she carries it off flawlessly. Plus her selection of accessories, shoes and clutch are ‘to die for’. A true¬†fashionista, she can transform from ‘Vintage’ to ‘Contemporary’ in no time. She always adds that elemnt of ‘fun’ in every look of hers and has been the most refreshing change on the red carpet.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

She was the first ‘Indian’ celebrity to walk the Cannes red carpet wearing a gown and evven after 10 years she works this trend fabulously. Aishwarya made other ladies take this silhouette more seriously since her Miss World days and has¬†experimented with so many styles. From Armani Prive to¬†Roberto Cavalli………..he has dressed in the best designer¬†ensemble and¬†turned heads everywhere she went. I don’t think this list would be complete without her.

Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone who was a model before she entered Bollywood, looks alluring in any gown. Her tall, slender stature is best suited for this silhouette. She has tried many gown styles like one shoulder, off-shoulders, halter neckline and we have digged every single look of hers. She has also walked down the runway in numerous gown creations by the leading designers of India.

Aamby Valley India Bridal Week – Day 2

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on September 25, 2011

The Day 2 of the Aamby Valley India Bridal Week 2011 took off with an evening of dazzling bridal couture and jewellery shows by designers Bhairavi Jaikishan ,  jewellery designer Queenie Singh and Adarsh Gill.

Mallika¬†Arora¬†Khan was the stunning show-stopper for Designer Bhairavi¬†Jaikishan¬†in a net Lehenga. Bhairavi¬†Jaikishan’s bridal wear collection brought together two contrasting inspirations ‚Äď revolution and tradition.

Bhairavi displayed a collection that evoked life and feelings through her creations, which had that touch of ethereal beauty. Opening the show with two gorgeous black net saris which were followed by the swirling lehengas. The grace of the lehengas was in their flowy silhouettes.

Queenie Singh has created jewellery for some of the most well-known global celebrities like Hilary Clinton and Queen of Morocco, while her designs have been desired by women around the country and across the seas.

Queenie Singh presented a glittering collection of exquisite jewellery which was painstakingly hand crafted by the best in the business. Embellished with semi-precious stones, the Jewels by Queenie collection had perfect pieces for the modern Indian bride. Opening the show with a line of white layered skirts and bustiers created by Ramona Narang Rodella, which were the perfect line for the gorgeous jewellery; Queenie had long gold intricately crafted neckpieces with large triangular pendants, strands of emeralds and rubies had off centre pieces to highlight them and diamond chokers with impressive centres glittered on the catwalk. For the all black jersey gown section, Queenie showed diamond hoops for the ears, while broad gold bracelets shimmered with precious stones. The large imposing emerald pendant at the end of diamond chains, long multi strands of precious stones, trellised diamonds with ruby and emerald insets for necklaces, were stunners and will be adored by brides around the globe.

Queenie ended the show with the three Femina¬†Pantaloon¬†Miss India 2011 winners ‚Äď Kanishka Dhankhar, Hasleen¬†Kaur, and Ankita¬†Shorey¬†modelling beautiful tiaras with gorgeous chokers and necklaces that cascaded down the necks of the beauty queens.

Adarsh Gill is the name that has created a niche not only in India but in New York and Paris where women covet her creations and the international media love her ensembles. From the ever popular sari, which Adarsh had ingeniously embellished to the superb lehengas, the elegant gowns and dresses, the look was sheer beauty. Working with the most exquisite fabrics like taffeta, lace, chiffon and brocades, Adarsh chose a mix of vibrant and pastel tones for her garments.

Giving a 20s look to the creations Adarsh opened the show with the western section, displaying two beaded tasselled shimmering minis in ink blue and brown with lacy work. Some more eye catchers were the various long sleeved numbers that skimmed the floor clinched at the waist with chiffon sashes or one shoulder sexy gowns with flouncy hemlines. Adarsh ended the section with a black long sleeve crystal embellished gown that was a dream like vision for any bride. The ethnic section was a riot of colours and showered with crystals as lehengas, cholis, kurtas and saris dazzled the audience. Dainty handbags and clutches were the perfect accessory, while the stunning jewellery by Diamantina added the right touch to the collection.

Adarsh’s¬†show stoppers were the lovely Bollywood star, Dia Mirza in a flared pink lehenga¬†and crystal encrusted corset and the very handsome Zayed¬†Khan wearing a white brocade sherwani.

Vogue Beauty Awards 2011

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on July 30, 2011

Vogue India and Mickey Contractor come together every year to celebrate the Vogue Beauty Awards 2011, of course we have loads of celebrities making their presence felt at this event. Here is your low down on who wore what and how did they fare???

Anuskha Sharma

It is jumpsuit galore these days…………Anushka’s choice for the event was also a jumpsuit by Stella McCartney. She rocked this look which was sophisticated yet perfect for the event. The satin jumpsuit added loads of elegance to her pretty looks plus the strappy shoes were a perfect fit with the outfit. All I can say that it is casual but appropriate for such a fun event.

Madhuri Dixit

And I fall in love with Madhuri Dixit all over again………..this is how this beautiful lady ought to dress up and enter fashion events. She looked every bit graceful in this black gown with earrings to add that touch of ‘bling’……….I would have added a cuff too, but nonetheless Madhuri works that gown superbly. Do check out her ‘Vogue’ cover this month…………I am all eyes the way she has been styled……….she looks like a ‘Diva’ in true sense.

Dia Mirza

Dia Mirza opted for this shimmer top dress [I think it is a’Vince’ outfit again] and basic black open toe pumps for the night……she did look cute and that is what we are not looking out at the red carpet event. Since she is going thru the sequin dress pahse, I feel Dia can definitely do better than this.

Feroze Gujral

Feroze Gujral came in a black and white off shoulders gown with a traditional ‘Matha Tikka’………..I wish she would have given it a miss since just the gown works for me……..a cuff or a neck-piece would have given a glam look. This mix of traditional with the west somewhere did not gel well.

Shraddha Kapoor

Shraddha Kapoor is going places these days with walking at Couture Week, as the face of ‘Lakme’ and now at Vogue Beauty Awards…….usually one sees her dressed looking fun and ready to party. But this off shoulder gown in brown made me cringe my nose………..I prefer the Shraddha who is ready to experiment and take risks with her looks. This one is way too simple for my taste……….does no justice to her pretty looks.

Tisca Chopra

Tisca Chopra also went for the safer route by opting for black gown but somehow failed to make an impression with her style…..The Alexander McQueen clutch is the only pretty thing in this entire ensemble……….I truly believe it was the length of the gown where the entire look went wrong……….the hemline should have been a wee bit lower to cover those platform shoes……..better if she would have opted for high heel pumps without platforms. ¬†Alas such a pretty lady….maybe it was not her day.

Simone Singh

Simone Singh wearing a James Ferreira gown is a good combination………..the satin outfit stood out of the rest………the hair, the unique pattern of the dress, the cuff and the shoes……………..I feel she looks pretty when all of these are combined together. One someone else the dress might have not looked that great………Simone did absolute justice to the ensemble.

IIFA Awards 2011 – Day 2

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on June 25, 2011

After the Grand opening of IIFA on day 1 plus the Double Dhamaal premiere, day 2 had loads in store for us with a Rcok concert. Even King Khan made an entry at IIFA. Sonu Nigam and Jermaine Jackson performed at ‘IIFA rocks’ concert where tribute was paid to Micheal Jackson on his 2nd Death Anniversary. Here is your glimpse at what our Bollywood stars wore on the Green Carpet and some performances……….

Dia Mirza performs at ‘IIFA Rocks’ Concert held in Toronto

Sonakshi Sinha works her charm on the runway for Gitanjali Jewelry in a ‘Vikram Phadnis’ Bridal outfit.

Designer Vikram Phadnis showcased his Bridal collection at this event.

Bipasha Basu in a ‘Sabyasachi Mukherjee’ couture during a fashion show held at ‘IIFA Rocks’

Shahrukh Khan

Shahrukh Khan was obviously dressed in black but this time around he added red tie to feature some pop of colour to his attire. But tell me something………who dresses up in formal ensemble for a Rock concert???? Shahrukh who is known looking best in his casual wear, somehow looks more ready to attend a board meeting………..this time around, the outfit was a total mismatch with the¬†occasion. Whereas Anushka Sharma looked awesome in a black gown with tear drop earrings……I think we have a new fashionista on the block.

Sonakshi Sinha

Sonakshi Sinha also made an entry on the Green Carpet in a jumpsuit with nude belt & wedge shoes……….I like the fact that she went casual for the concert but her shoes absolutely destroy the look.¬†With a jumpsuit I feel a nude peep toe heels would have suited better than the wedges in order to give a better effect of the ensemble.

Ritu Kumar’s ‘Falaknuma’ Collection

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on January 31, 2011

Ritu Kumar who has dressed so many woman across the world in her Bridal creation, has yet again captured several hearts with her recent ‘Falaknuma’ Bridal collection. The event was held in Mumbai while the same creations were showcased on the ramp in Delhi where mother-daughter duo Sharmila Tagore & Soha Ali Khan graced the runway as show-stoppers. In Mumbai Actress/Activist Shabana Azmi and Actress Dia Mirza walked the runway for Ritu.

I like the fact that Ritu selected her show-stoppers very smartly…………….these women were either belonged to Royal families or were connected to royalty in some way. Like Sharmila & Soha belong to the Royal Family of Pataudi, while Dia Mirza is from the Royal city of ‘Hyderabad’ and Shabana Azmi belongs to the family of ¬†Poets whom I consider essence of Mughal Era. ¬†All of them have been influenced by regal forms in their lifetime and the same was beautifully reflected when they walked down the ramp dressed in Ritu’s creations.

Dia Mirza looking like a Queen in this attire which is inspired by our Mughal Heritage.

Shabana Azmi showing her regal side to the world in this splendid Ritu Kumar outfit

Sharmila Tagore and Soha Ali Khan walk hand in hand with Designer Ritu Kumar on her showcasing of ‘Falaknuma’ collection held in New Delhi last year.

Dabangg Premiere

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on September 10, 2010

‘Dabangg’ has finally released……………….the much awaited movie had its premiere¬†held in Mumbai with all the cast present. I must say these days Salman definitely can be named as our modern-day¬†Dharamendra¬†which is what I can make up from his Dabangg¬†trailer. Getting back to the red carpet affair of the premiere, many celebrities were dressed in black…………………honestly all black with no colour is very, very disappointing. The lead actor of the movie Salman Khan was dressed in a black shirt & black jeans with an aquamarine stone stud belt. I am no fan of Salman but I know that he could have done much better rather than going in for all black. I would have preferred him to come in his ‘Chulbul¬†Pandey’ avatar rather than just another guy thing. Sallu bhai…………get a bit hip will you.

Meanwhile the leading lady Sonakshi¬†Sinha¬†was dressed in a black & golden ‘Vikram¬†Phadnis’ outfit, which I felt was too long…………….I would have preferred this outfit with a churidhar¬†instead and some amazing heels. The velvet trimmings at the base looked a bit too much though………but the golden detail work on the bustier was note worthy. The browny¬†point here was that Sonakshi was able to carry off the dress well and with sheer elegance. On the whole the outfit did not scream for attention yet was very subtle.

Malaika¬†Arora¬†Khan aka ‘Munni’¬† in the movie looked hot in a Roberto Cavalli¬†Dress but the red Bottega Veneta clutch and those hideous shoes made a perfect look bad……………….wish she would have replaced her shoes with a bronze colour peep toe heels and a black clutch……………..though I am digging those big earring which give a fresh look to the outfit.

¬†Amrita¬†Arora¬†on the other hand looked fabulous in a brocade kurti¬†with long slits which was also designed by Vikram¬†Phadnis…………..the fact that I like here is the pop of colour that the ‘Rani’ pink & golden sleeves are giving it to the outfit. Love the hair, the kurti¬†& the matching ¬†jewel buckel shoes.

Tabu also made a rare appearance at the premiere of ‘Dabangg’ wearing a one shoulder black with white trimming gown. This long thing is not doing any justice to Tabu’s bod¬†and her height…………..and the shoes were better off with an Indian attire………….they are just¬†not working with this outfit. On the whole, this is a mess-up from the ultra glamorous lady.

Bipasha¬†Basu¬†took a U-turn by turning up in a saree at the premiere………………not that I am complaining but the saree look somehow did not work for me neither did the hair. The white net saree was bad enough¬†with the white & golden trimming but turned out worst with the brocade blouse. The hair looked equally messy……………….it was not a day for Ms.Basu…………..Sorry but not liking this saree look which was created by designer Rocky S.

Arbaaz¬†you are the producer of this big movie and wife of glamorous Malaika¬†but your outfit is not speaking any of those things…………………….you are definitely fearless or let’s say ‘Dabangg’ in this get up but it is ok if you dress up this way when you are on the set making a movie…………….this is a premiere and I am not impressed with this laid back style. You have to work alot on your handsome looks……………..please get some help from your wife.

Salman’s younger sister wore a jumpsuit in chocolate colour with a halter shimmer neck and a ‘Bottega¬†Veneta’ clutch but unfortunately the entire look is too much of matchy-matchy¬†with the shoes, clutch and watch. Plus the colour is down playing Arpita’s¬†skin-tone. An outfit in beige or aquamarine blue would have worked wonders for this petite lady. Better luck next time………..

Sridevi¬†also made an appearance with her daughter & hubby wearing a beige ‘Herve Leger’ bandage skirt and a knotted shirt with a waist jewel in gold and a ‘Mcqueen’ clutch……………..but the end result was a a¬†bit disastrous with the ‘out of bed’ hair, the skirt being too tight and short [I wonder how comfortable was she] and the shirt made it look more appropriate for day wear rather than night out one. On the whole Sridevi has an amazing toned body and look at those fabulous legs…………….I am sure she will find a better way to flaunt them.

Looking at the pics of these two lovely women, all I can say – smart tops, but wrong bottoms………….Dia top’s in black with a touch of silver sequins on the sleeves is adorablebut¬†pairing in with black tights was a wrong idea……….wish she had paired it with skinny blue jeans, would have looked better. Juhi’s¬†kurta¬†is quite a relief from the blacks other people¬†were wearing, but the brown trousers were not too hot though. Wish she would have pair with¬†black trousers or fitted denims.

Minisha¬†Lamba came in dressed in white in a pretty white knee length¬†dress with matching Mary Jane design shoes…………and errrr a¬†red Louis Vuitton¬†bag which screamed for attention. The shimmer red LV bag would have looked better with black or blue but not white. I would have preferred Minisha carrying a small clutch instead of carrying her entire make-up kit bag. Not at all subtle………infact too showy. Where the outfit was a deal breaker, the bag marred the entire look.

IIFA Awards 2010

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on June 4, 2010

IIFA Award 2010 РMain Event

IIFA Award 2010 main event was held in Colombo the capital city of Sri Lanka where many Bollywood stars walked down the green carpet and posed for the shutterbug.

Kareena Kapoor & Saif Ali Khan

The star couple Kareena¬†Kapoor and Saif¬†Ali Khan walked down the green carpet at the IIFA¬†Awards 2010. Kareena¬†was wearing a green and red Manish¬†Malhotra¬†couture saree where as Saif¬†Ali went in for a formal-casual fusion of blazer with denim. I might have never liked the blazer with denim style but Saif¬†makes an exception with this design on self pin-strip black blazer with a pop of colour in form of the red satin he has displayed on the side pocket of his blazer. The v-neck t-shirt with rugged blue denim and brown shoes plus belt are making his look ‘oh-so-fashionable’. I like Kareena¬†Kapoor in Sex and the City style of dresses but somehow this colourful saree is not doing justice to this wonderful actress. The work and design everything is rich………….no doubt but the look is not very alluring. Maybe the green carpet has something to do with it????¬†I prefer Kareena¬†more in¬†the western avatar in the photo below where she is wearing a where she was dressed a shimmer top over jeans. I dig that look even though it is red carpet inappropriate. Maybe it is just me……………

 Lara Dutta

Whoa……….Lara Dutta¬†in the 60s hairdo and a beautiful gown………do I need to say anymore.I think I do since I am not a fan of the 60s updo¬†but must say Lara Dutta¬†is pulling it off well. The gown is ‘magnificent’ with such intrisic¬†work on the each layer of the hemlines and the criss¬†cross fabric pattern on the waist. The accessories are well co-ordinated¬†with huge diamond and pearl earrings¬†with a golden clutch. This is a very red carpet look and I am happy that Lara not only looks like a glamorous super star but also classy. Lara Dutta I am a fan of your outfit…………..can you please lend me it for a day.

Bipasha Basu

This is wrong……………….this¬† is very wrong………………Bipasha¬†has always been my favourite on the red carpet but this does not seem to be the real Miss Basu.¬†This does not seem fashion forward nor it is elegant…………..The bright orange saree is an eye-sore but combining it with a hot fuchsia¬†pink halter neck blouse is a disaster. With the chunky bangles and the big red bindi, Bipasha¬†wanted to give a sexy look to the goan¬†ki gori¬†but could not do justice to the ensemble. Ms. Basu please go back to your original form………… much as I adore you I simply hate this look.

Salman Khan

The black suit is is very basic but what’s with the bright blue shirt and the black tie with a ‘Being Human’ message on it. I cannot see the ‘Salman’ style anywhere………….both the collar and the tie are hideous plus the colour blue are not doing any good to this dashing Star. The shiny blue shirt is a fashion crime…….better luck next time Salman.

Kangana Ranaut

The gown is pretty, the¬† detail work on the bustier of the gown is exquisite but the colour has totally disappeared¬†against the back drop of the green carpet. As forKangana, she looks every bit radiant in this outfit. The gown has a very elegant feel to it…………….two thumbs up for the dress but I wish if Kangana would have opted for another colour.

Neha Dhupia

Neha¬†seems to have come ready to chain a man from the IIFA¬†award. She wore a black saree which was draped in style of a gown with a black blouse covered with golden chains all over…………plus topped it off with a bold chain belt. The style was innovative but why it is not working coz it is too overdone. I can see chains and only chains in this outfit. This style would have looked amazing if Neha would have concentrated on showing off the belt or the blouse only.¬† Any stylist would know that overdoing one accessory kills the look.¬†

Anil Kapoor

Did someone forget to wear their coat for the event??? Yes Mr. Anil Kapoor just did that……..this outfit is incomplete and unfortunately looks incomplete without it’s blazer. Love the grey colour with the maroon polka dot tie………..but who convinced Anil to go without the blazer.¬†

Hrithik & Suzzane Roshan

Hrithik Roshan wore a black three piece suit with a plain¬†black tie………..I am missing a pop of colour in his attire. Maybe if he had added a different tie with this suit it would have worked much better. Plus Hrithik needs a haircut……. the all ruffled hair ………..I am not digging his tired look that much. Suzzane on the other hand wore a blue shimmer gown which was too much of glitter & not proper fit. These shimmer patterns ought to be given a defined necklines and fitted well especially at the waist to add that definition. The same colour waist belt is not doing much to make this outfit look glamorous. Though her silver clutch and shoes are pretty but the outfit is not desirable.

Fardeen & Natasha Khan

I have always loved seeing actors wearing Indian couture on the red carpet…………andseeing Fardeen in a bandhgala coupled with trousers sealed a smile on my face. He is looking handsome and a thorough Indian gentleman. Thank you Fardeen for wearing a bandhgala at IIFA Awards since all the actors seem to go western and ignoring the fact that ensemble like these can actually look better than a coat/suit. Natasha choose to wear a light blue and cream saree with a halter neck blouse. The saree should have been all in one colour but it compliments well with Fardeen’s clothes. All my browny point to Fardeen for this look.

Jacqueline Fernandez

Jacqueline wore a beautiful saree draped in style of an evening gown………..she looked every bit amazing like a ‘Diva’. The entire attire is beautiful, looks glamorous and she is able to carry it off well.¬†The accessories blend in well with her saree……love the fact that she is wearing only heavy earrings. Let the Saree with alluring detail work do the talking for her style…….two thumbs up for this pretty look.

Dia Mirza

I always look forward to see Dia Mirza on the red carpet………….I love the way this lady dresses up for the occassion. At IIFA 2010¬†Dia tried going in for avintage look which she can carry off effortlessly even though the dress is tad too simple. She has combined¬†vintage jewellery with this boring dress giving it a life of it’s own. The pulled back hair are neat and she has never looked prettier. I love this look where she has combined the contemporary with old time charm.

 Day 1

IIFA awards 2010¬†started of with a fashion show in Sri Lanka on 3rd June, 2010. The news is that many bigwigs of Bollywood are giving it a miss but from the looks at the green carpet I feel that there are going to be many attending the grand affair. We start off with the green carpet review……..¬†

Jacqueline Fernandez

Jacqueline Fernandez who is representative of her country Sri Lanka walked on the red carpet wearing shiny blue gown……… the pattern of the gown. Even though people might not like the¬†colour for its flashiness¬†but I feel Jacqueline has been able to carry it of well.¬† The flowy long hair on the strap less gown with long earrings gives quite an oceanic feel to the entire look which as per Sri Lanka is perfect. On the whole I like this look which is glamorous but not over the top.

Bipasha Basu

Bipasha¬†Basu¬†wore a golden fringe all over short dress which had a very 80s look to it……………somehow this dress is not doing much to enhance this stunning actress body. We have seen Bipasha¬†experimenting her look for the red carpet and maybe we have got used to seeing her in ‘bold avatars’ rather than going simple. Nonetheless I am digging the shoes, they look fabulous though are quite a mismatch with this outfit since the colour black of the clutch and shoes are taking the emphasis away from her golden dress which is more in a matt tone. My verdict on this outfit : don’t like it much, she could have glamed¬†it up a bit with accessories and gone beige golden with her shoes and clutch since gold is the new black.

Lara Dutta and Mahesh Bhupati

Lara Dutta¬†walked in with beau¬†Mahesh¬†Bhupati¬†for the IIFA¬†Awards 2010 fashion show. Lara went in for a retro 80s look with this black and white Herve Ledge dress. The dress gets full marks from me since it is different form the rest of the crowd and of course Lara has the fabulous figure to carry it off well. But what is spoiling the look is her hideous oversized clutch and those ‘shiny disco ball’ black strappy¬†heels. I wish she had gone in for simple open-toe stilettos¬†and a¬†small black clutch with sequin¬†detailing with this chic outfit. As for Mahesh¬†Bhupati, dude you are standing next to one of Bollywood’s glamorous actress, you have to do better than combing a blazer with denim. This look is ‘out of fashion’ ………………..I would have preferred¬†a classic look¬†of white shirt with denim minus the blazer. They both can be a power couple but just have to work on their look together with a great stylist.

Sonakshi Sinha

I don’t have the full length photo of Sonakshi¬†Sinha¬†but from the looks of this pic Sonakshi¬†is looking stunning. The beige and golden outfit with a matching clutch is doing wonders on this young up-coming actress. The dress is short yet age appropriate with exquisite embroidery work all over plus sequin¬†work on the hemline. My say on this attire is simple, fresh and different. Am eager to see her on the red carpet in future………….

Anil Kapoor

¬†Even after many decades how does Anil Kapoor still manage to look so good has always been a mystery to me. He has kept on re-inventing himself, experimenting with his looks both on & off-screen. At IIFA awards he was dressed in a basic black suit with a stripe tie………….kinda reminded me of Robert Downey Jr. with that french beard look. Me like the suit, like the style and love the fact that he is always well-dressed for red carpet. Two thumbs up for this look……..Mr. Kapoor keep rocking for many more decades to come.

Salman Khan & Sonakshi Sinha on the Ramp

Salman Khan and Shatrugan¬†Sinha’s¬†beautiful daughter Sonakshi¬†Sinha¬†walked down the ramp for Manish¬†Malhotra¬†during the IIFA¬†Award 2010 fashion show. Salman Khan was in the avatar of his new upcoming film with Sonakshi¬†wearing an all black attire and a fake mustache though the mustache makes Salman look like a 50s era gentleman…… suits him well. Sonakshi¬†wore a Lehenga¬†designed by the Manish¬†Malhotra. I do like Sonakshi’s outfit but her Dupatta draping could have been done better…………..the drape just looks as if done in a hurry. Sonakshi…glam up a bit, you are a pretty face……… doubt.

Jacqueline walks the ramp with Kumar Sangakkara

It is always a delite¬†to see Bollywood and Cricket come together during fashion events…………….this being one of the most anticipated shows held at different location every year. Actress Jacqueline Fernandez walked with Sri Lankan¬†cricketer Kumar Sangakarra¬†in Manish¬†Malhotra¬†creation. I love the golden empire¬†waist kurta¬†that Jacqueline is wearing…………love the detailing on it but somehow the velvet lehenga¬†in navy blue colour¬†with purple plus golden gotta border are not blending in that well. Thankfully Jacqueline’s angelice¬†face is able to carry the dress off with an ease. Kumar is looking¬†good in a navy blue kurta¬†with golden detail work combined with white churidhar. On the ramp they both have made a pretty good impression.

How to dress in your 20s!!!

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on April 26, 2010

Dressing for Indian Woman in her 20 – Bold & Beautiful

Dressing of Indian women have been constantly in change from yester-year Sarees to Salwar¬†Kameez to the contemporary western wear…………………..the transformation was rapid.¬† I feel Indian women have unlimited options to wear when it comes to dressing since they can choose the western attire or go for more traditional choice. But these days it is necessary that a woman should always dress her age and not try to dress in order to look younger. Who says that a woman in her 20s is only allowed to experiment where as the woman in her 60s has to stick to a traditional Indian outfit only………….well times have changed drastically and for better.

Ahhhhhh……….the twenties where so much happens in a woman’s life-like¬†falling in love, getting your first job, having a fairytale¬†marriage, having your first child, going on a dream vacation, making new friends…………..but also coming out of your protective family shell and entering into the ruthless world as an individual…….well honestly the world is not that bad a place. But the twenties also turn a girl into a woman in terms of fashion. A lady has to bid goodbye to her teenage look and discover a more sophisticated mature look in her 20s. This decade is also¬†an introduction to style and class¬†in one’s wardrobe. I remember giving up the early 90s ¬†baggy pants to fit into the new trend of boot-cut jeans after I crossed the 20th year mark………I think at this age a girl starts to feel comfortable as a woman and may be that reflects in her style of dressing.

A woman in her 20s can wear a jeans with a well fitted shirt or a top for a casual laid back look, go flirty¬†with a short skirt, display seriousness in formal wear like a shirt combined with trousers. wear a saree/salwar¬†kameez¬†for a occassion¬†or look demure in a little¬†black dress for an evening out. At this age she can experiment with everything right from hair to make-up to shoes………….take full advantage while you are still young. My favourite in clothes is a¬†short dress for women in their 20s. Wear as much high heels as you can for parties, night out, a date or if you are comfortable…..everyday. Experiment with make-up but make sure you don’t end up looking to made up……………at any age subtle make-up is the key to look like a ‘Diva’……………

The plus point of this age group is that today’s designers design their collection for this age group most of the times so you have a¬†wide variety. As for Saree please invest in some classy designs which you can wear for years to come but experiment with the blouse like have a halter neck stitched, spaghetti¬†straps, strapless¬†tube kind………sexiness is the essential word here…………….you need to look elegant avoid looking too trashy by opting for too much of glitter. Some women in their 20s end up looking in their 30s by wearing grandmother’s era type of blouse………….even the look of saree is ever-changing¬†so please try to keep up with the ongoing trend…………only some vintage outfits look classy in today’s high fashion world. You can keep your grandmother’s saree but please toss the decade old blouse and get a new one stitched.

Try going in for funky bags at this age –¬†denim¬†bags for a casual look, leather wear bag for daytime, a shimmer clutch for night-outs………….it does not have to be a brand only, elegance combined with utility and comfort¬†is what you should look out for while buying a trendy bag. And yes it is ok to repeat your bags and outfit…………believe me it is no big deal if you end up wearing the same outfit or bag on different occasions. As for jewellery, keep it to the minimal and try to concentrate on one piece of jewellery to look fabulous and not too made up. One can go with small earrings, a chain with pendant and a bracelet for daytime but change if with longer earrings and a dazzling ring during night-outs. Keep the heavy Indian Jewellery for the occasions and wear them with Indian attire. Avoid trashy jewellery stick to minimalistic style during daytime with earrings, a chain with pendant and a bracelet. Try longer earrings for evening but wear heavy gold jewellery with Indian attire. Diamonds and other precious stones can be worn by anyone at any age……………..they are timeless. Concentrate on one piece of jewellery in order to get that undivided attention………too much of big¬† jewellery will make you look more of a ‘show-off’. In today’s bollywood¬†world I am happy to see the young ladies who have a fresh face and their own unique style thanks to many talented Indian designers and stylists. Here are some of the women in their 20s whom I admire for their statement making style.
