Trend #1 for 2013 – Gem studded Jewels

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on January 31, 2013

IFP is listing down few trends which will continue making it big in 2013. So much is written about clothes but so little there is to find about beautiful Indian accessories. Starting with jewellery, something that every woman loves, IFP gets you a look at few trends which you can wear and even store for the future.

Colourful gems top IFP’s list of ‘Must Have’ in your wardrobe…..the jewels can be made of precious or semi-precious  gems. Ideally precious gems like rubies, emerald & sapphires are combined with uncut diamonds, pearls or kundan work for an ethnic Indian look. Wear gem studded earrings over Anarkali, a gem & kundan ring with your little black dress for the cocktails, an embellished necklace over your saree, gown or your top for a formal party. This trend has been followed over centuries in India and is a full proof ‘Hit’ when it comes to styling.

Screening of Race 2

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on January 25, 2013

Race 2 which has released today, was screened yesterday evening at PVR in Mumbai. The cast of the movie & other celebrities came in dressed casually for the screening. But Deepika along with Jacqueline did manage to catch IFP’s eye for their outfits.

Deepika looked fabulous in this ‘Victoria Beckham’ outfit but the shoes were another story all together. Black open toe pumps would definitely have looked better.  Absolutely heart her outfit.

Bipasha Basu who had starred in the first part of Race and also stars in the second installment of this movie,  attended the screening looking cute in her white lace dress with a navy blue jacket & nude open toe pumps to complete her look.

Jacqueline Fernandez & John Abraham posed together for the paparazzi. John who was dressed in casual outfit did not impress that much, given that he has got a strong role in the movie. John sometimes dressing up helps alot……:-) Where as Jacqueline looked good in gold sequin shorts with a black jacket that had detailing on the shoulders.

Saif Ali Khan also came in casually dressed in nautical stripe T-shirt which were complimented with snake leather. Not a fan of the shoes, but hey that’s just me.

Priyanka Chopra who came straight in from ‘India’s Prime Icon’ award event , was dressed in a Shehlaa Khan saree. She did look nice, but pastels on her are becoming a routine. Beg to see vibrant color on this talented actress.

Yami Gautam has given good red carpet look during the awards event but this look just doesn’t impress. The shoes, the bright denims along with the silky top don’t look well co-ordinated. But heard she was not even half bad dressed as Amisha Patel as seen below.

Amisha Patel seems to have come straight from the beach to attend the movie screening. The shorts with shredded end T-shirt was way too comfortable for a movie. Wish she would have just added an evening wear top to match those shorts along with gladiator flats or strappy heels.  This is look deserves to be ‘FINED”.

Aditi Rao Hydari in a black shimmer number combined with ‘Chanel’ bag and strappy sandals. She did look nice in this outfit and kept the look understated with minimal accessories. Like it.

Red Carpet at the Filmfare Awards 2013

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on January 21, 2013

58th Filmfare Awards were held at Yashraj studios in Mumbai. Ranbir Kapoor & Vidya Balan walked away with the leading actor awards, yet again. Annu Kapoor & Anushka Sharma took home the filmfare for their supporting roles while Barfi was awarded the ‘Best Film’ award. Many congratulations to the winners………….now getting back to our fashion business, Filmfare Awards are a big deal for fashionistas as it sets the tone for the year ahead in terms of celebrity fashion. IFP takes you through the red carpet of this event & reviews the fashion.

Deepika Padukone in a demure Prabal Gurung…….with a body like hers I feel she did absolute justice to this outfit. On anyone else this gown would have looked trashy but Deepika wowed me…….the fit, the cut [especially the cut work], sheer draping,  no accessories, coral lips and hair tied up. Deepika is back to rule the red carpet for sure. Love it…….. 🙂

Ileana D’cruz wanted to shine for the big nite…..she did bag the ‘Promising Newcomer’ Award for her role in ‘Barfi’. This ‘Roberto Cavalli’ outfit reminds me of the glittery 1970s where sequins were very fashionable. Not a fan of this outfit, but Ileana did manage to tone the look down with tasteful jewellery, clutch & shoes  to match.

Ranbir Kapoor dressed in all black three piece suit which did look vintage especially the button detail on the jacket. I wish Ranbir would surprise us with much more fresher looks especially in Indianwear. The stubble & the all black attire is turning a bit boring. He is a fine actor of this generation, but would love to see him rock the red carpet too. SIGH!! 😦 😦

Priyanka Chopra has been wearing alot of colour lately but never expected her to wear something so loud. The colour with so much of glossy sheen was simply over the top……..add the trail of the gown & we  have a Prom Queen. Hate this look on Priyanka though neck up she did look very pretty but the outfit is altogether a different story. 😦 😦 😦

Alia Bhatt making a graceful appearance in ‘Manish Malhotra’ lehenga in which she looked pretty. But why opt for something so safe, why not experiment a bit with your style???

Anushka Sharma made me remembered the 1960s era where the flower power was on its rise and the winged eye-liner trend at its peak. The canary yellow colour is lust worthy and the entire looks spells vintage. She is wearing a ‘Victoria Beckham’ gown. L-O-V-E in capital for this look………that aside,  Anushka would look wonderful with a fuller figure though……what say people???

Breaking away from the conventional lehenga & anarkali style, Chitrangada Singh made me proud in this ‘Anand Kabra’ outfit. The side swept braid, vintage jewellery and the colour all get browny points from IFP. Chitrangada has been a risk taker on screen as well off it and her style shows positive signs of the same.

Minnisha Lamba in a Krishna Mehta pastel outfit………….with the lack of some bright colour this look was a total wash-out on Minnisha. I wish she would have added the colour in form of jewellery or bright coloured lipstick. I did see this collection of Krishna on the runway and also liked it. But not liking the way this outfit was styled on Minnisha. Sigh…:-(

Neha Dhupia wore a ‘Victoria Beckham’ outfit in black with hair accesories to highlight her look. I do like this look but wish she would have added some more drama to her look. The plain outfit of hers is like a canvas which Neha could have made look a lot more glamorous with addition of a belt to match her jewellery.  Nonetheless simple look works as well.

Yami Gautam in a ‘Tarun Tahiliani’ pastel lehenga…………waist up she does look pretty but it is the detailing on lehenga which was not needed. The corset type choli would have looked better if it was paired with a plain net lehenga. But hey, that is just me……….do you like this look of hers???

Madhuri Dixit Nene went all glam in this shimmer blue ‘Alberto Makali’    …………..she has taken a risk opting for this gown and unfortunately this one comes across as too flashy than classy for me.  I wish she would have given one of those ‘Dior’ looks in which she looks heavenly………shimmer in subtle proportion looks good but too much can spoil the entire look.

Parineeti Chopra seems to be taking a liking to Gothic looks coz her ‘Rajat Tangri’ dress goes feel dark to me. On Parineeti the dress is a misfit…………just not feeling this satin attire. Wish Parineeti would have opted for a more colourful appearance that go all black in satin. I find this look totally dated. 😦 😦

Sridevi in coral ‘Alberta Ferretti’ gown is a surprise for me……..fortunately it is a pleasant one. Though this might not be her best looks till date but the elegant manner in which she carries off this look is superb. Pairing the outfit with a Judith Leiber which works well with her outfit, IFP is happy to see Sridevi take risks. 🙂 🙂

Vidya Balan in her trademark ‘Sabyasachi’ saree posed along with her hubby Siddharth Roy Kapur. Though we have seen the check saree on her earlier too in a different design, I wish Vidya would opt for something out of the designer’s new collection. It is boring to see her don the same look while taking no risk. 😦

A cocktail saree in black & green looks beautiful………top it off with hairstyle with tight curls and you have a recipe for style disaster. That is exactly what Raveena Tandon did to this look.  I do like her outfit but her hair……..please someone tell her hairstylist to have some mercy.  😦

Urmila Matondkar in her ‘Manish Malhotra’ style did manage to look good after a lonnnnnnggg time. She absolutely had me on the colour of her outfit plus the styling was in sync with her attire. Absolutely like this one 🙂

Aditi Rao Hydari went the saree route in this Gaurav Gupta……….she looked amazing in this grey shimmer saree that gave a very gown like feel to the look. She kept the look understated with minimum accessories………one of the few looks given by Aditi. 🙂

Amongst the celebrities who opted for traditional attire, Shahana Goswami was a delight to see. Dressed in a ‘Sabyasachi’ black lehenga, she did look glamorous and perfectly styled for the evening. The hair pinned up in a bun, the red lipstick and only earrings look works for me………what about you???

Nikasha Tawadey – Creating a colourful Fantasy

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on January 17, 2013

Nikasha Tawadey

‘Indian Fashion Police’ interviews designer Nikasha Tawadey about her work, the celebrities she has dressed up as well as her latest collection. Nikasha has showcased her collection at numerous fashion weeks in India for years now and has recently opened her flagship store in New Delhi. IFP has been following on Nikasha’s work since this website was started and feel delighted to know more about her ideas and work.

Celebrities like Chitrangada Singh, Sameera Reddy, Asin, Neha Dhupia, Bipasha Basu, Parineeti Chopra, Prachi Desai to name few, have worn Nikasha’s creations at events. What caught my eye were the beautiful blend of colours that one gets to see in Nikasha’s work………where other designers were opting for pastels, Nikasha’s collection with vibrant hues were like fresh breeze.

Nikasha at Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week

‘Indian Fashion Police’ got a chance to know Nikasha better as a designer. IFP also gives you a look at her recent Spring/Summer 2013  collection ‘Chandni Chowk’ as well as her Bridal Wear Collection 2013.

1)    How did you start off in fashion designing?

Nikasha : It was while I was completing my education in psychology that I happened to realize my real calling in fashion design and decided to dabble into this industry. Since then there has been no looking back and today am happy to have achieved success in something I always loved.

2)    What defines ‘Nikasha Tawadey’s designs?

Nikasha : My design ethos is a strong reflection of the journey of a modern Indian woman, who embraces tradition with a contemporary outlook. Through interplay of vibrant colours, delicate embroidery, fabrics and prints, we have created a unique portfolio of both resort wear and bridal collections, which portray a global style, accentuating Indian traditional craftsmanship with a modern twist. ‘Less is more’ has been our brand philosophy, we always shy away from going over the top or using heavy embellishments.

3)    In your eyes, how do you think a woman ought to dress in Indian wear?

Nikasha : For me elegance is really important to do justice to any Indian wear and that comes with comfort. As already said, ‘less is more’ has been our brand philosophy which will always keep you comfortable in what you are wearing. Alongside bright colors, different textures can make all the difference in any outfit without the need for going over the top with heavy work.

4)    Many celebrities have worn outfits designed by you, is there anyone in particular that you would love to design for?

Nikasha : I have had the opportunity to work with ladies like Kareena Kapoor, Sonam Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Diana Penty, Priyanka Chopra, Asin, Bipasha Basu, Katrina Kaif and Sonakshi Sinha and have loved to dress them all so it would be difficult for me to choose any one.

5)    Your Spring/Summer 2012 collection had loads of floral designs & bright colors. What surprise is in store for us from your next collection?

Nikasha : My spring summer collection 2013 is inspired by the lanes of Chandni Chowk. Like the joyful hustle and bustle of the city’s iconic bazaar, this collection is full of lively spirit with colours like mithai pink, Ferozi (turquoise) and santri (orange), fused with eclectic prints. As compared to last year’s collection this time I have played with different fabrics and textures. The fluid silhouettes are layered with glittering tinsel decorations, trimmings, and detailing that bring to the collection a playful and vibrant spirit.

6)    Best compliments received for your designs?

Nikasha : Recently from Raghuvendra Rathore, A designer whom I deeply respect and look upto said looking at my collection “ These really should be from the house of Rathore”.

7)    What would be your advice to a budding designer?

Nikasha : According to me it is very important to love your work and be a 100% commited, each day, each minute, each second!!

8)    Nikasha Tawadey’s personal style would be……..

Nikasha : For me it’s always been about comfort, so that pretty much drives all my choices.

Filmfare Nominations Bash 2013

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on January 15, 2013

Filmfare Awards Nominations for the year 2013  were announced in Mumbai. ‘Barfi’ leads in the nominations and IFP hopes it wins the award for ‘Best Picture’. IFP takes you through the red carpet of this nominations bash to see how well the celebrities were dressed.

Priyanka Chopra wore a white ‘Dior’ with a glittery clutch to add the zing to this look.  Love the hairstyle with bangs and love the way Priyanka looks classy. 🙂

Alia Bhatt in a peach gown which had floral bodice that she could have flaunted with her hair pulled back. Plus the bronze oversized clutch does not compliment her look at all. I do prefer her Screen Awards outfit over this one. 😦

Anushka Sharma wore a ‘Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna’ ……..waist up she does look nice but the pants & the shoes are another story all together. It would have been preferable if the top would have extended as a knee-length dress. Sexy stilettos would have helped too to glam this look for a red carpet event.

Sridevi went the rouge in this chiffon top in balloon sleeve teamed with high waist trousers. The top, hair & make-up get our thumbs up but the length of the trousers & the fur clutch bag were the spoilers. A smaller clutch & a knee-length skirt might have worked here. 😦

Imran Khan in a grey suit looked amazing…… IFP loves the way Imran is always dressed fabulously at events. Liking this look at the way for sure 🙂

Sonali Bendre in a Manish Malhotra anarkali which came as a surprise since she usually opts for well-known designer duo. She did look pretty in this outfit and IFP thinks she looked elegant. 🙂

Deepika Padukone opted for wide leg trousers with a sequins jacket ……..unusual choice for red carpet but IFP has no complains. Deepika can carry off this look with sheer ease……..the hair, make-up, clutch & the outfit blend well. Plus she looked different & comfortable in this look.

It sure has been a long time since IFP last saw Ranveer Singh on the red carpet. Dressed in a basic black suit & a beard to go with it! After seeing his casual looks in the past, this one surely looks good on him. Hope Ranveer continues his suited booted looks in near future too. 🙂

Aditi Rao Hydari wore a fuchsia ‘Gaurav Gupta’ gown but the pose seem too stern for such a beautiful outfit. Love the outfit and the hair but a cuff or bigger earrings would have look glamorous. Sigh!

Ileana D’cruz was spotted wearing a BCBG Max Azria one shoulder gown, the shades of blue were indeed soothing. The loose curls are what that are a mismatch with her serene outfit. Hope she would have tied her hair up in a pony or an updo. As for the outfit, I do like the gown due to its colours.

Sophie Choudry in ‘CUE by Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna’ outfit looked smoking hot. The outfit had glittery accessories & shoes to complete the look. Sophie can surely carry the sheer neckline well without looking tacky. 🙂

Raveena Tandon in a Manish Malhotra Anarkali………….She did look pretty waist up but I felt Raveena could do way better than this look. Seeing her in Anarkalis has become a routine. How about adding sarees & gowns to the collection?

Screen Awards 2013

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on January 14, 2013

Screen Awards 2013 held in aamchi Mumbai, had many celebrities line up on the red carpet. Here is an update at who wore what & how did they fare??

Starting with the legend himself, Amitabh Bachchan walked the red carpet in an off- white bandhgala with black trousers that matched his pocket square. He looked at ease in this attire and we love him for this very fact that he is always an original.

Deepika Padukone who is always amazingly dressed up for any occasion, left me high & dry in this look of hers. The D&G lace gown in teal fell flat on Deepika………… not a fan of the big hair. I wish Deepika would have pulled her hair in an updo & worn strappy sandals to make this outfit work. Sigh! 😦

Parineeti Chopra is super cute, but her style here is not. I do love the ‘Sabyasachi ‘skirtthough but the blouse & the big bow belt spoil the entire look. The look is neither formal nor casual…………in fact not fit for the red carpet at a grand awards event. I so wish PArineeti would have opted for a choli or a corset instead of a button-up shirt. 😦 😦

Sonakshi Sinha wore a ‘Falguni& Shane Peacock’ outfit for the awards event. Wish had the full length image of hers but from the looks of it, Sonakshi does look good.

Chitrangada Singh in a ‘Roberto Cavalli’ gown & red lips look ‘super’ hot. Seeing her in so many amazing looks these days……… have to see more of her fabulous styles on the red carpet in future. As for this one………….Love it. 🙂

Sonali Bendre with hubby Goldie Behl in a Shahab Durazi outfit. The hairstyle made the entire look go ‘oh-so-wrong’ for Sonali. This dress called for voluminous hair plus throw in some beautiful diamonds for that polished look. Not liking this look one bit 😦

The cast of ‘Student of the Year’ were dressed to the nines…………not just Alia Bhatt but the gentlemen Varun Dhawan & Sidharth Malhotra do look their very best. Alia is wearing a ‘Gaurav Gupta’ outfit in bronze. Like it…..absolutely. 🙂

Arjun Rampal did what he does best…………..pose looking absolutely ‘perfect’ on the red carpet. Dressed in black suit, this man is like a dream for every fashionista  since it is hard to find any flaws in his style. 🙂 🙂

Genelia & Riteish Deshmukh were also dressed up for the occasion……..Genelia wore a ‘Roberto Cavalli’ gown nd IFP thinks she did look fabulous. Love the hair too. As for Riteish……..the satin blue trimmings on a tuxedo……………Really???

Katrina Kaif in a ‘Naeem Khan’ gown did catch my eye this time…………thank god she took some risk in this shimmer black outfit. Love her demure look and wish she continues these fabulous looks in future too. 🙂

Malaika Arora Khan in a black lacey number which had a sexy back [how evident is it??]. But I beg Malaika to give us more looks in gowns and Indian attire. IFP has seen enough of these short dresses………….need a change. 😦

Mughda Godse looked good in black lehenga but I wish she would have added a neck piece to glam this look up. Maybe it’s just me……..but it was nice to see Mughda get her groove back on the red carpet though.

Neha Dhupia never gives me a chance to complain………….she is seen here dressed in ‘Nupur Kanoi’ outfit with hair pulled back in a bun while only her eyes are highlighted in her make-up. The jewels are kept to the minimum with only cuff in place……… it. 🙂

Yami Gautam looked refreshingly different in this emerald green outfit by designer Carmen Marc Valco. She finished this look with emerald earrings to match the outfit. Love it & wish to see her more on the red carpet. 🙂

Vidya Balan has been lately opting for more Kanjeevarem sarees on the red carpet. We do love the traditional weaves of our country but I wish she would also try Patola, Paithani, Benarasi and Mysore silk sarees too. And definitely go lighter on the jewellery part by limiting it to a single piece which compliment her look. But none the less, IFP does give her credit for bringing the traditional weaves back in vogue.

‘BEST DRESSED’ of 2012

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on January 8, 2013

‘Indian Fashion Police’ brings in the new year with the most stylish & well dressed celebrities wwhom we have seen over the past year. Our picks for the year 2012 are based on the numerous times these celebrities have looked fabulous on the red carpet.

Deepika Padukone

Deepika had me surprised this year with her style choices especially post her ‘Cocktail’ movie success. Loved her looks in the movie as well on the red carpet where she experimented with her looks even more. The choices of designer gowns and sarees have  made IFP sit up & take a good look at her. Deepika has transformed from a girl to a demure woman……………IFP had to undoubtedly put her on this list. Her casuals had denims teamed with sexy lace tops styled with a purse & bangles while bold gowns & sarees flattered her figure on the red carpet.

Hrithik Roshan

Even though we did not have many red carpet appearances but Hrithik still wooed us as he walked at Marrakech Film Festival in black Tuxedo & sleek hairstyle alongside wife Suzzane. He put in that extra effort to look good be in his clothes, his hair or his clean shaven face. That is why Hrithik makes it to IFP’s list of ‘Best Dressed’.

Sridevi 4

She came back and stunned us yet again just to make us realize how much we missed the actor ‘Sridevi’. Her acting skills are uncomparable but it was her dressing style which made me smile every single time she walked the red carpet. Her saree choices from Manish Malhotra & Sabyasachi were beautiful so were her western attires. She complimented each look with alluring jewellery, a clutch & hairstyle which completed her look and made her look ever  more elegant.

Kareena Kapoor

The year 2012 was indeed a blessing for Kareena Kapoor on both personal & professional front. But this year also saw her explore new wardrobe choices. The gal who was mostly seen in Manish Malhotra outfits on the red carpet, made way for designers gowns, dresses & jumpsuits…………something which we have been longing to see Kareena in. Her make-up is always flawless, her hair are superbly styled, her nails well-manicured and her outfits are to die for. Do we need to give anymore reasons as to why Kareena Kapoor makes it to this list?

Mini Mathur

Mini Mathur might not be the Bollywood’s leading ladies but she sure stands out whenever seen at any red carpet event…………the reason : her choice of silk sarees which she wore with sheer elegance. On someone else the saree would have fallen flat, but on Mini the sarees looked fabulous especially when she paired them with stone jewellery & a batua bag.

Arjun Rampal

Bandhgala paired with Jodhpuri pants on the red carpet of Cannes Film Festival seems like a tricky choice, but our very own Arjun Rampal carried off effortlessly. Arjun is one of the few actors who rocks the red carpet in any thing that he wears plus he has evolved in his looks as he has ages gracefully. Arjun & his wife Meher made us red carpet proud at this year’s Cannes when they both walked in wearing a Rohit Bal & Tarun Tahiliani outfits. Neat, sophisticated and ever evolving…………that’s what makes Arjun stand out in our list.

Karisma Kapoor

Polished, sophisticated, sexy, elegant, all combined in one is how I describe Karisma Kapoor’s style. Even though these days she is seen wearing black or pastels, she manages to grab eyeballs with her subtle style.  This mother of two has groomed her younger sister Kareena to stardom and has maintained herself as a ‘Diva’. Karisma makes it to this list too along with Kareena – both sisters are the offical muse of the eminent designer Manish Malhotra.

Kalki Koechlin

Kalki is the surprise entrant on the red carpet who started off looking like a ‘girl next door’ but has morphed herself to a ‘celebrity’ with amazing style sense. Why she makes it to IFP’s list is because of her quirky, unusal options which she wears to the red carpet. She is refreshingly different from the rest of the celebrities and stands on her own. A celebrity who can wear a hairband with an Indian outfit & still manage to walk off with an ease…………..which is what Kalki did at this year’s Cannes.
