Ritu Kumar’s ‘Falaknuma’ Collection

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on January 31, 2011

Ritu Kumar who has dressed so many woman across the world in her Bridal creation, has yet again captured several hearts with her recent ‘Falaknuma’ Bridal collection. The event was held in Mumbai while the same creations were showcased on the ramp in Delhi where mother-daughter duo Sharmila Tagore & Soha Ali Khan graced the runway as show-stoppers. In Mumbai Actress/Activist Shabana Azmi and Actress Dia Mirza walked the runway for Ritu.

I like the fact that Ritu selected her show-stoppers very smartly…………….these women were either belonged to Royal families or were connected to royalty in some way. Like Sharmila & Soha belong to the Royal Family of Pataudi, while Dia Mirza is from the Royal city of ‘Hyderabad’ and Shabana Azmi belongs to the family of  Poets whom I consider essence of Mughal Era.  All of them have been influenced by regal forms in their lifetime and the same was beautifully reflected when they walked down the ramp dressed in Ritu’s creations.

56th Filmfare Awards – Red Carpet Review

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on January 30, 2011

The big, big, big nite had many beautiful celebrities take stage at 56th Filmfare Awards. How could I stay behind in getting the red carpet review for the event. Though I somehow don’t agree to who won the award since I would have certainly picked other deserving actors. But red carpet review is my honest expression, no bribing here. The event was held at the Yash Raj Studios on 29th January, 2011 in Mumbai. So keeping it short and simple………….let’s see what our celebrities wore at the award function…………….and how well they fared on the red carpet.

Katrina Kaif

Katrina Kaif was seen here wearing a Manish Malhotra outfit but frankly I am confused over whether it is a gown or a lehenga with an ultra long kurti???? What this outfit needed was a shorter kurti or better, a choli with a dupatta. Secondly this outfit was way too heavy to be worn at an award function, would have worked better for someone’s marriage. My Verdict : Pretty detailing, lovely colour………..but it was a case of overdressing for the occasion. Remember less is more at such events.

Malaika Arora Khan

Malaika Arora Khan a.k.a. ‘Munni’ wore a white and golden gown with gold accessories and nude open toe shoes. A ‘Diva’ like her can gracefully carry off any western attire and she did justice to this ensemble as well. The fault however was the design since somehow the golden one shoulder detail work seemed out of the picture. The gown would have worked better if it was a strapless gown with the detail work only on the bustier. My Verdict : Love Malaika in this gown, else the outfit would have not looked this good on anyone else.

Sonakshi Sinha

It felt like a breath of fresh air the moment I saw Sonakshi wearing this pretty ‘Gauri & Nainika’ outfit which is just right, given her young age. The green colour with minimal jewellery and ‘bling’ in form of the clutch. She also won the ‘Best Debut – Female’ of her role in ‘Dabangg’ which was truly well-deserved. My verdict : Love it………..

Vidya Balan

How can a woman always end up looking so flawless on the red carpet in a saree???? That is what I always ask myself whenever I see Vidya Balan in a ‘Sabyasachi’ creation. The attention grabbing statement bib necklace, the designer blouse, the black saree with detail work on the border………………Divine. Plus have never seen Ms.Balan in red-painted nails……..who so ever inspired her to get all dressed did a pretty good job. I am sure many jaws dropped once she made an entry at the award event.  My verdict : This is the tipping point for Vidya Balan & designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee, please don’t ever go back to your earlier looks.

Urmila Matondkar

Urmila who has remained faithful to designer Manish Malhotra, wore his creation again. What a relief to see this beautiful women looking gorgeous on the red carpet. Yes I am still confused with the length of the kurti but Urmila is able to carry it off well plus the ‘bling’ is restricted above the waist and on the hemlines. Since her earlier red carpet sightings were a bit of a let down, this is better off than her earlier appearances. My verdict : Like it, suits her ‘petite frame’ well.

Hrithik & Suzzane Roshan

‘Lady in Red’ accompanied by her knight in shining armour…………………literally. Seeing Hrithik in those shiny pants and the grey suit I thought he had borrowed it from his father’s wardrobe where Papa Roshan might have still stored his 1970s clothes.  Suzzane on the other hand fares a wee bit better except for the pink clutch which looks out of the place. Again I would love to see her wear jewellery like a pair of earring on her gown. My verdict : Hrithik can look amazing in Karan Johar – Varun Bahl creation or a ‘Tom Ford’ suit.

Kajol

Kajol who made an appearance after a long time, also took home the award for the ‘Best Actress’…………………stylewise she seemed to have grabbed a Manish Malhotra outfit in a hurry. She is yet to lose her baby weight but why hide it under an oversized ill-fitting anarkali. I am sure that Kajol would have looked way better in a simple salwar kameez or even a saree. As for the baby weight, all I can say she still looks adorable. My Verdict : Honey you are beautiful in whatever you dress up but drop the baggy oversized clothes. They make you look bigger than you actually are.

Imran & Avantika Khan

The newly weds Imran Khan and Avantika made an entry very much in love…………….Imran was dressed in a tuxedo while Avantika went in for a bubble gum pink knee-length outfit with a black belt and nude pumps. Though not a fan of the shoes, I am happy that Avantika took a risk wearing this shocking pink colour for the red carpet plus the hair done up in a ‘do’ works for me. I would have just changed the belt to something with more metallic studs and shoes to match it. Imran looks dashing as ever……………..how many of our stars actually dress up like him for the red carpet. They are young and can easily experiment with their looks. My verdict : As a couple they look lovely, but I prefer Imran’s sleek look in the Tux over Avantika’s ensemble.

Preity Zinta

Is that Preity???? Whoa I never thought of seeing her dressing in Indian attire on the red carpet……………….no doubt she is looking refreshingly different and pretty but why is the beautiful work on the inner skirt which looks more like a lehenga hidden underneath the drapes??????? Is this another new styles of Manish Malhotra???? If your outfit has detail work please don’t hide the amazing work done by our hardworking Indian craftsmen. Preity looks beautiful but I am not digging her net saree. My verdict : Could have looked way better if the saree drape was different.

Rani Mukherjee and Shahrukh Khan with wife Gauri

Shahrukh Khan and Gauri made an entry with Rani Mukherjee and a friend, where the ladies donned midnight blue gowns  looking flawless. Like Gauri’s one shoulder Donna Karan gown but the oversized clutch is what I am not a fan of. Rani went for the shimmer halter neck dark blue outfit which for her petite frame works wonders. Shahrukh Khan is dressed as usual in a black suit and bed hair but this time the ladies got me drooling over their outfits. My verdict : Shahrukh is smart to have beautiful arm candy to complete his look……………;-)

Prachi Desai

Prachi Desai who was one of the nominees came in this blushing pink gown which was indeed very dreamy but her hairdo somehow woke me up from that dream. The braided hairdo would have looked amazing on an Indian attire than on a gown……………….anybody recall Vidya Balan wearing a saree with braided hair. How classy was that???  Call me traditional but this is somehow not working for me. I would have styled her with side swept hair kept open. My verdict : Love the dress, hate the hair.

Amitabh Bachchan with Bahu Aishwarya

Papa Big B made an appearance along with Aishwarya…………..I do recall that he had boycotted this award function last year……….let bygones be bygones for now. Aishwarya who was nominated in ‘Best Actor – Female’category was looking ravishing in this Manish Malhotra off-white creation. I truly wished she would have at least won the ‘Critics Award’  not that Vidya was not deserving, she is a brilliant actress………………but Aishwarya did stand out in ‘Guzaarish’. Maybe this is just my opinion but stylewise Aishwarya looks elegant. Big B on the other hand wore a two-toned blazer which he was able to carry off for this glitzy event. He received an award for completing 40 glorious years in Bollywood. My verdict : Father & daughter-in-law look graceful. Aishwarya is definitely my pick for the ‘Best Dressed’ at the Filmfare.

Prateik Babbar

Is this the same young guy we had seen last year at the Filmfare wearing sneakers with a suit???? Hell, yes it is Prateik Babbar looking suave and happening…………….Dhobi Ghat seems to have done wonders to his style sense. Thank God we are able to see his good looks in this clean get-up of his. I am sure he would have found many girls eager to party with him the night away. The black single button blazer suit with clean-shaven look gets a thumbs up from me My verdict : He looks very sophisticated…………Ohh La La…….

Raveena Tandon

Last time when I saw Raveena on the red carpet, I jumped out of my seat quite literally. But this time I am not disappointed with her choice. The black anarkali is also MM creation [Hope you know MM stands for Manish Malhotra who has dressed half of the ladies for this event] is definitely a good break from her earlier red carpet appearances. Though the dress itself does not stand out much, Raveena still looks good in it. My verdict : Strictly Like it, though I feel Raveena can do much better. I would dress her in more contemporary, sophisticated fashion.

Sridevi & Boney Kapoor

Sridevi is looking ‘HOT’ as the days are passing by……………..seriously I wonder why she never wore such beautiful gowns on the red carpet earlier. The only thing which should have been skipped is the shimmery stole. The satin gown itself is gorgeous enough, why let it get distracted by anything else??? As for Boney Kapoor, I cannot see him when his beautiful wife takes all the attention on the red carpet. My Verdict : Sexy outfit, skip the stole.

Amazing Celebrity make-overs

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on January 19, 2011

I have always wondered how hard do the celebrities work at looking good???? Do they have a checklist which they follow every single time they step out of their residential door???? Or their stylist does all the running around to find that perfect look for them??? It is not that even they were born perfect……………….but in the course of time in this competitive high fashion world they have achieved perfection. Some people change their looks with time, reinvent themselves and once they find their signature style………………they stick to it for a lifetime. This is what exactly happened with these celebrities who looked just like another person but are one of the stylish people around.

Saif Ali Khan

Way back then

‘Chote Nawab’ as he is called with love, started his career on a low point without any help from his family………..for years he stayed in the shadow of famous parents and an equally famous wife. But that did not deter Saif Ali khan from experimenting………….though the initial years were tough for him since he was always offered second lead roles in films. His long hair, loose ill-fitted clothes and bad fashion sense made things only worst for him…………..until ‘Dil Chahta hai’ happened. In comes Saif Ali Khan with a new shorter hair cut, clean-shaven look, and bit of muscle………..and what you have???  Women screaming their hearts out for this cute dude!!! He has gone on to look better and better and better with every passing day……………..he is the lead actor for big budget films, walks the runway as show-stopper and has a hot, hot Kareena Kapoor as his partner. Need I say any more about one of the best transformation in Bollywood history.

Now

Shilpa Shetty

Before

Can you imagine our very own Shilpa Shetty looking like that in her before pic…………..I am glad that we get to see her in the ‘After’ avatar now. If I had looked at her earlier pic, I could have never imagined that this young girl would go on to become one of the most stylish woman with oodles of sex-appeal. Must say one thing, that Shilpa has worked hard not just on her bod, but her hair, her clothes, her face and her attitude………….Love every bit of it on her. She started out with a small role in ‘Baazigar’, was paired opposite all the famous actors on-screen but that did not do much for her image in the filmi dunia. She wore bright jhintak colours with bad hair and equally bad make-up. People said that her days in Bollywood were as good as over. Then in comes ‘Big Brother’ and her whole world changes…………….. thanks to designer-friend Tarun Tahiliani, the ugly duckling became a Swan at last. Offers stated pouring for Shilpa – fashion week, movies, launches, premiere, IPL team……………she was all over the place. I am glad that good things came her way since she is one of the soft-spoken and ever-smiling celebrities that I have come across. She deserved her long-awaited success.

After

Salman Khan

Salman Khan in his earlier days

Yes the young man in the pic above is Salman Khan during the earlier 1990s………………all bones, no muscles. Salman Khan started out in the movie industry as a simple guy you would love to take home to meet your parents……………..but over the years he has become a dread you would fear to take in front of your parents……………………please do not take my comments to your heart. But this ‘Dabangg’ has revolutionized so many fashion mantras among the common people, be it with his attitude, his style, his clothes, his sunglasses, hosting a reality show or his humanitarian project ‘Being Human’…………………………..he always does it in style. Over the years one has seen Salman turn from a gawky looking young fella to a Macho man fit for our Indian version of ‘He-man’. Many controversies shook his life, despite the setbacks Salman always focused on evolving his looks for his roles, taking up newer challenges. One thing commendable about him is that he never followed the herd…………………the crowd came wherever he went. He might not be my top favourite stars, but I still love to see him host ‘Big Boss’ and his movies………………maybe that’s why the phrase exists……You can love me or hate me, but can never ignore me. That is the reason why Sallu bhai features on the list of ‘Best Bollywood Transformations’.

Salman hosting ‘Big Boss – 4’

Twinkle Khanna

Twinkle while starting out in Bollywood

Twinkle Khanna is the daughter of Legendary actor Rajesh Khanna and beautiful actress Dimple Kapadia…………….know though she is also known as Akshay Kumar’s better half but Twinkle has established herself as a ‘Fashionista’ making to the ‘Best Dressed List’ all over the leading mags. Amazingly Twinkle never looked this good, the photo above does prove that to quite an extent. Curly big hair, sleepy eyes, frumpy baggy clothes never did much good for the lady. Today I can swear by her choice of outfits, hairstyle and accesories……………she looks like a million dollar buck. Thank God for the transformation, we have a ‘Diva’ on this list.

Twinkle in Verve Magazine as ‘Best Dressed’

Sridevi

Before

We have seen Sridevi since past 30 years go from an ugly duckling to a glam queen of Bollywood to finally becoming a ‘Graceful Swan’………………..I prefer her look in her 40s than her in earlier years. Long gone are the days of flashy lipsticks, huge bindis, traditional  kanjeevarams, ghajra as hair decoration, big jhumkas and in comes ‘Herve Leger’ outfits, chiffon designer sarees, subtle diamond jewellery and Jimmy choos to match her outfits. Sridevi has never looked better since she started out in Bollywood……………………can’t wait for her to make a comeback in movies. But she does make to my list of ‘Most Amazing Transformation’. She makes me believe that ‘Life does begin in your 40s’…………….at least fashionwise.

Red Carpet Review – Zee Cine Awards 2011

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on January 16, 2011

Zee Cine awards was one of the biggest Bollywood award ceremony which was held outside of India. The venue for the event was the plush new Marina Bay in Singapore. There were the whose who of Bollywood. So let’s glance at who won our hearts in the fashion department and who needed a desperate make-over from a stylist before stepping on the red carpet. Here is my review of the red carpet of the Zee Cine Awards 2011.

Deepika Padukone

Let me start the review with the young ‘new’ lot of the industry in short with Deepika who was dressed in a one shoulder silver gown that had a fashionable knot on the waist. Though I like the gown a lot and since the many past appearances of Deepika’s, I feel this is a step towards good style sense. But somehow hate the shoes and the clutch. Witha gown like that, a pop of colour was very much desired here. I wish Deepika would have opted for strappy sexy heels in silver and grey with black Judith Leiber clutch. I am sure that would have given this outfit a whole new dimension. Nonetheless, love the bold gown since suits Deepika’s frame amazingly. My verdict : One thumbs up for the gown.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan should ideally be the ‘Queen of International Red Carpet’ sinceI seldom see her messing up with her looks on the International platform. This one too is no exception, since Mrs. Bachchan is currently going thru with the ‘Manish Malhotra’ phase and this outfit by far looks very elegant. The velvet trimmings are very subtle on the rich golden brown colour fo the outfit.Plus the detail work  on the net silhouette is to die for. Plus minimal jewellery is the way to go. My Verdict : Absolutely Love it…………

Hrithik Roshan with wife Suzzane

The celebrity couple was dressed to kill in black but unfortunately too much of black killed the ‘look’ that could have been. Seriously I have seen Hrithik in that suit with the slim tie a numerous times and I need to see something new on him. Maybe same suit no tie or a different tie would have worked better. As for Suzzane, the black gown without any ‘bling’ is too boring. Some jewellery courtesy sister Farah would have helped a lot. My verdict : Way too simple and boring, need some glitter.

Sonakshi Sinha

Oh oh…….Where is the beautiful girl whom I had seen in ‘Dabangg’ gone and who has draped that lovely girl in that ‘curtain’ print ensemble………………..tsk, tsk,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,pity I’d say. I do agree this was the very first international platform that Sonakshi was making her appearance but this outfit was not what a ‘fresh’ face like hers was expected to wear. I wish she would have gone for something more glamorous in a saree like a sequin detail work on chiffon plus traditional jewellery. This outfit does not at all emphasize her pretty face and true assets her eyes. As an actress I do like her a lot and know that she has potential to make it big. My Verdict : Need more fresh and younger look for this pretty lady.

Rishi And Neetu Kapoor

Our favourite yester year star couple still make my heart go ‘Awww’ whenever I see them dressed to perfection on the red carpet. Neetu Kapoor as elegant as ever dressed in a beige anarkali with those ‘ooh la la’ Ruby & diamond earrings looks like a ‘Diva’. Mrs. Kapoor can I please borrow those lovely earrings for a day……………….:-) Mr. Kapoor Sr. took some effort this time to be dressed in a grey suit just wish he had not worn the tag card beneath his tie.My verdict : Lovely pair who ooze loads of ‘Kapoor’ Royalty……………….two thumbs up for them.

Arjun Rampal and Mehr Jessia

Arjun And Mehr Jessia also walked in wearing black but thankfully they were not boring. After a long time, I get to see both dressed appropriately with Arjun wearing a Shahab Durazi creation while Mehr went for a Monisha Jaising creation. Glamorous, smart and perfect for the occasion. Mehr did full justice to that dress given the amazing bod and looks she has. My Verdict : Two thumbs up for the lovely couple who look good together.

Prachi Desai

Prachi Desai choosed this maroon Gauri & Nainika outfit but happened to mess  it up with lack of accessories on this plain ensemble that screamed for some glamour. With those pretty looks, Prachi could have won every fashionista’s heart with a pair of chandelier earrings in diamonds plus a cuff, a fashionable clutch and glitzy shoes. Though these shoes equally do the job well………………the hair could have been tied up in a high set pony with the collar bones getting all the attention. If you have it flaunt it honey…………….why hide it and make it look like plain disastor. My Verdict:More experiment required here. Have fun while you are still young.

Neha Dhupia

Neha Dhupia was looking all glamed up like a doll for the event and must say that the lady is more surprising on the red carpet than on the screen. I am not fond on the frills on a gown unless it is a knee length dress but here they seem to give a slimmed down effect for Neha. Hair pulled back, jewels blinging bright and the dress fit to perfection works for me. My Verdict : Pretty, pretty and pretty.

Anita Dongre – Queen of Highstreet Fashion

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on January 12, 2011

What would you call a designer who has 6 labels under her belt and infinite stores in major cities??? An amazing designer who knows what the masses love. Anita is one of the few designers catering to all income strata in this fashionable society. Her clothes are very wearable yet contemporary and the best part fits in my budget, no wonder why I shopped for them on my trip back home.

Anita earned her fashion designing from S.N.D.T, Mumbai. She came into limelight when she launched her western wear ‘AND’ in 1999. Since then there has been no looking back for this talent powerhouse with the launches of her brand label ANITA DONGRE – IINTER PRET, TIMELESS, GLOBAL DESI and GRASSROOT. Plus she has also ventured in wellness with ‘CLAY’ which has opened in Bandra. This was my short description of what this amazing lady has achieved.

But that is not why I want to write about her. I have tried to find many designer outfits that would fit in my budget but somehow have been able to admire these designer creations from a distance, let alone buy them. Anita’s creation was one of the first which I bought and five years down the line the outfit is still a precious piece in my wardrobe. The quality, the clean lines, the details work plus durability of a ‘Anita Dongre’ fashion is definitely for keeps.

Recently I had been to luxury mall ‘Palladium’ at Phoenix mills, I was mesmerized by Anita’s ‘Timeless’ collection which were very trendy with ethnic patterns yet not heavy on the pocket. Instead of buying a detail work suit piece and getting them stitched, I would rather buy it off the racks. The store’s decor was as classic as the clothes itself……………..though there were other high-end designer stores as well in the same mall, I could not bring myself to enter those stores since a middle class person like me often gets scared looking at the price tag of these designerwear.  Not to mention the glances by the store staff who are trying to guess whether I am a buyer or just a petty window shopper???? Sigh………..

My point here is that Anita has catered to the segment where we aspire to wear designerwear but can afford to shop at Shopper’s Stop. Today many of my girlfriends can walk with confidence wearing her creation and feel like a celebrity. Funnily, we can now relate and look forward to the recent collections launched at the fashion weeks, which I feel was non-existent for most of us till date. She has started a trend where designerwear was not just limited to superstars or celebrities only, but for a normal gal like u and me. Kudos to Anita for bringing about a revolution and bridging the gap.

Anita apart from dressing any woman, has been a designer for Esha Kopikar, Gul Panag, Urmila Matondkar, Raveena Tandon, Mallika Sherawat, Tabu and Tisca Chopra. Her recent collection was inspired b y our colourful Rajasthan, has done pretty well. Her collection has a wide range to choose from – TIMELESS is inspired from Indian heritage with traditional wear like lehengas, churidhars, kurtis. IINTER Pret is a fusion of Indian patterns with western designs & fit. GRASSROOT is an eco-friendly collection made from organic material. ‘AND’ is the party and formal western wear line while GLOBAL DESI is western cut on Indian fabric both of which have an affordable price range.

If you wish to see her collection, you can visit her flagship store in Linking Road, Bandra which houses all the 5 labels under one roof which is spread out over 4,000 sq feet or visit one of her stores in major cities across India. Check out her official website for more details www.anitadongre.com

Red Carpet – Star Screen Awards 2011

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on January 7, 2011

The year’s first award function 17th Star Screen Awards was held in Mumbai where our stars graced the red carpet. But I am a bit disappointed on the amount of ‘bling’ used in the outfits which few celebrities had worn.

Sonakshi Sinha

The debutante of the year Sonakshi Sinha looks amazing in this net Shantanu-Nikhil outfit with black heels and clutch. I say she looks awesome in this simple yet sexy look. Go guys feast your eyes on this beautiful young lady. Stylewise, I am liking this look for her which is very age appropriate as well as the event.

Rekha & Vidya Balan

The original ‘Diva’ of our film industry with the upcoming ‘Diva’ Ms. Vidya Balan look graceful in their respective Kanjeevaram Saree. I absolutely feel no matter how the fashion might change, but a Kanjeevaram saree is for keeps till eternity. Rekha is all decked up in jewellery on her golden saree looks elegant but I do wish to see her in a glorious designer saree since she is capable for carrying any type of saree. Vidya on the other hand usually dressed in Sabyasachi, went the Kanjeevaram way. Though I must say I like this look of hers too. With a saree, Vidya knows she can never go wrong.

Shahid Kapur

Shahid Kapur who is all smiles here is not gonna be happy with my review. This attire is disappointing especially the untidy shirt. Shahid please tidy up and go a bit formal. That sweet smile needs proper dressing to go withit.Plus I am sure, designers would be dying to get you all dressed in their creations. So why not give it a try???

Prachi Desai

Prachi Desai wore a ‘Falguni & Shane Peacock’ attire with the feather fringe type of design. But what I am not able to digest is the nude colour with black plus the animal print. Somehow on her that colour combo is just getting all washed out on her. Neck up she looks adorable plus the styling with the shoes & clutch was good but I would have loved to see her in a more bold colour. Nonetheless strictly ‘like’ this glam look on her.

Mugdha Godse

Mugdha Godse was seen after a long time and more appropriately dressed for the award function. Dressed in a black net saree with sequin work border plus hair all tied up. Honestly she is looking nice in this outfit but not awesome. I feel she just needs to go away from shiny, glittery stuff and go for matt shades. And to see her in a knee-length Herve Leger would be a dream come true.

Katrina Kaif

Katrina was a vision in red and was way better than her earlier appearances. This is more lady like rather than her usual ‘Barbie’ get up. I am all in for this glam sophisticated look. Two thumbs up for Ms. Kaif. Such a fashionable look was long overdue from her end.

Kirron Kher

Kirron Kher was dressed in a blue saree posed with her son Sikander for the cameras.  Mother & son duo look good where Sikander goes for shorter hair and a formal get up. Neat I would say and like the attire. As for Kirron Kher who seems to be wearing a Tanchoi saree is perfect as ever. To complain against her look would not be appropriate since she always makes an effort to look perfect whatever be the occasion.

Sonali Bendre and Goldie Behl

Sonali Bendre looked very bit of yummy mummy in the blue gown plus with the bib necklace completing the attire, I would say that Sonali truly stood out with her choice………………..in a good way. The Bib necklace is very much the object of attention on the plain blue background………….of course every outfit needs a biut of drama. As for Goldie, sorry but Sonali takes all my attention so he would have to work a bit more to look equally good.

Mini Mathur & Kabir Khan

I am loving this saree on Mini Mathur with the potli bag. She does have a bod to carry off any outfit but I like the fact how gracefully she has gone ethnic from modern. As for Kabir, please loose the jeans and come dressed in formals for a award ceremony. You have a good personality, so why not flaunt it…….

Stay tuned for more pics.

‘No one killed Jessica’ Premiere

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on January 6, 2011

The much awaited movie ‘No one killed Jessica’ had it’s premiere held in Mumbai. Many known faces graced this occasion and the leading ladies were a sightful in demure ‘scarlet’. Film premieres are glorious these days with the stars all dressed to kill………..in some matters they do successfully kill our imaginations when they wear something atrocious on the red carpet…………hee hee.

So coming back to my favourite work of seeing who wore what and how well did they fare???

Amitabh Bachchan

Big B came in the premiere wearing an all white attire…………….surprising since he reminded me so much of Jeetendra. But unfortunately I am not kinda of digging this look since I have preferred Amitabh Bachchan more in navy bluesand blacks in which he looks handsome as ever. So please Amitji, love to see you in darker shades than all whites.

Rani Mukherjee

The star of the movie Ms. Mukherjee came dressed in a red Donna Karan outfit and boy she does look smoking hot………..you know what I mean guys. Plus those silver stilettos blend well with the outfit. Though I wish Rani would have kept her hair back instead of keeping them side ways since the dress is beautiful……….why spoil its grace with something else??? Anyways love this bold ‘avatar’ of Rani.

Vidya Balan

Miss Balan who plays the role of Sabrina Lal in this movie came in wearing a Sabysachi Mukherjee saree. Though love the saree and the designer blouse but hate the two put together. I wish Vidya would have opted for a blouse in navy blue or black with the similar work done along with this red saree. This entire attire desperately needed a contrast instead of going same on same. Love the actress but this style unfortunately left me high & dry.

 Aamir Khan & Kiran Rao

Seeing Aamir Khan dressed in basics like a denim & sporty jacket and Kiran who was all dressed up for the event made me think that ‘opposites do attract’. But this time I am for Kiran Rao who was very elegantly dressed in a grey silk coat and black pants. I think she looked superb………….very appropriate considering this was not her movie premiere and that she came in as a guest. Where as Aamir Khan looked very shabby in that unshaved look plus the biker attire. Aamir if you are gonna pose for the shutter bugs wearing that with an elegant lady as your arm-candy, forget it that you will ever get any attention from bloggers like moi.

Kalki Koechlin

Yiiiiikkkkeeesss was my first reaction to this messed up look of Kalki. No doubt the saree was perfect for the evening with that bold blouse but the hair, the purse and the jewellery were ‘Oh my God’.With that sweet face of hers, I would have definitely swapped that hideous purse for a fine crystal clutch with hair a bit longer left open with beautiful chandelier earrings to enhance her pretty looks. I truly believe that Kalki is a ‘Diva in making’ but I hope she does get some stylist’s help.

 Chitrangada Singh

Chitrangada Singh choose to wear a Tarun Tahiliani outfit for the evening except that the look was spoilt by the broad belt. I do maintain that the belt & the anarkali as separate pieces are beautiful but give a very unfashionable look here. Firstly Chitrangada is not very tall secondly the belt divides her body where her upper body appears shorter when compared to the lower half.  To top it all, the attire is an anarkali which has a flowy ‘ghera’. My vote…………….Loose the belt sweetheart, keep the Anarkali simple accessorizing with some designer jewellery & a potli bag.

Best Dressed Women in 2010.

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on January 5, 2011

Considering that last year was full of fashion weeks and glamorous red carpet events, there have been many stylish women from across our country trying to look their very best…………….how many of them actually succeeded???? Well the number is quite low since many of our celebs are brand obsessed and never care to look if the outfit actually suits them well or not. There were however few beautiful women who got my attention when it came to dressing up for the event. These women have made it to my list of ‘Best Dressed for the year 2010’.

Karisma Kapoor

Though she is not doing films anymore, but she can still give other younger actresses a run for their money. The reason why she is on my list for 2010, is that she puts in a lot of effort to look good even during her pregnancy. I am truly her fan since my teens when I used to dance around her ‘Le gayi Le gayi’  song from ‘Dil to pagal hai’. Sister Kareena Kapoor too dresses to the nine every time she is on the red carpet, but there is an elegance in Karisma’s style. Whether she dresses up in a party wear or simple dresses down in her casuals, she still manages to maintain the ‘Wow’ factor in her look. She most of the times dresses up in Manish Malhotra’s outfits who has been a helping hand in transforming her into a Glam Queen. She is one of the celebrities who has inspired other women that motherhood does not mean compromising with looking amazing, hence in my list she will always be a top style ‘Diva’ of all times.

 Rani Mukherjee

Surprising isn’t it to put Rani Mukherjee on this list, but can anyone actually remember her not dressing up and looking good last year???? I simply cannot plus let us not forget that she was one of the first actresses to introduce us to the talented Sabyasachi Mukherjee on the silver screen. She has been seen at many recent events dressed in her very best looking better than ever. Long gone are those outfits which used to make her look older than her age. In comes the fashionable short dresses, pencil skirts, jump suits, flared pants, funky denim, unusual saree patterns………..loads of new addition to her wardrobe. And I must say that on her petite frame, I am loving her new ‘avatar’. She has been trying hard to make a successful comeback, with this style of hers I am sure people will be more than happy to have her back.

Kalyani Saha Chawla

Her name has become synonym with the brand ‘Christian Dior’ or ‘Dior’ for which she is the brand ambassador. Another feather to her ‘Dior’ hat would be styling Sonam Kapoor for the fashionable movie ‘Aisha’ with the glam outfits, shoes and bags to die for.  I have never seen her dress in anything obnoxious in any event………………her look is all the way sophisticated, classic yet very contemporary. She dresses in outfits which compliment her rather than just following fashion like the rest of the crowd. Maybe that is why she always stands out in events despite not being an actress.

 Malaika Arora Khan

Malaika Arora Khan needs no introduction where fashion is concerned. She experiments a lot and takes risks with her looks which very few people in the public would dare to do. Her style quotient is ‘demure’  in whatever she wears. If the dress is short, then the shoes & the clutch take centre stage, if it is an indianwear then the back and the fit of the silhouette will be given more emphasis than the rest of the dress or if it is a gown then the jewellery will be the focus. I cannot think of any dull moment last year when Malaika was not dressed up to our expectation. Her hair are done, her clutch and shoes is very much ‘In vogue’ and her make-up is flawless. Be it on the cover of a magazine or any red carpet event, all I can say that ‘Munni’ absolutely ‘rocks’.

Twinkle Khanna

Twinkle Khanna has totally revamped herself…………………..I remember the days when she had started in the film industry when she had the horrible hairstyle combined with the neon colour ill-fitting clothes plus to keep up to the expectations of her mother’s glamorous image in the movie industry. I am glad today when I see her in any red carpet event all dressed to kill. Today give her any dress to wear and she turns out like a queen wearing them…………her style includes knee-length dress in fabulous colours that compliment her skin tone, anarkalis or short kurtis paired with churidhars, pants with tops that usually emphasize the upper half of her body and loads of amazing designer jewellery. With Twinkle now following her mother’s footstep in style department, she definitely gets thumbs up from me as the Best Dressed Woman.

Sonam Kapoor

Sonam Kapoor is like a breath of fresh air in this filmi dunia where style revolution is just getting started. I have never seen anyone wearing vintage Indian jewellery with western outfit and still look like a million bucks. I think style is something she inherits from her mother who is herself quite a ‘Diva’ though she does not come out much for red carpet events. Her penchant for designer wear makes every woman gush with envy plus her ‘to-die-for’ accessories like jewellery, shoes or bags………………..I can’t have enough of it. I actually look forward to her red carpet appearances since she always surprises me with her attire yet remains classic all throughout. At her age, she has got every style fundas right.

 Gayatri Oberoi

Gayatri Joshi nee Oberoi had made quite a charming start to her movie career with Swades then suddenly she disappeared to be married to renowned builder Vikas Oberoi and have two children. But I never thought that her come back as a socialite would be so pleasing to the eye. Gayatri is every bit of sophistication these days…………….she wears outfits with clean-cut, sober colours and is never too flashy unlike other wanna be socialites. She does experiment but never goes to extremes since she sticks to what suits her best rather than be fashion crazy. Cocktail dresses, pants, sarees, designer salwar kameez and churidhar are what she is mostly seen in. All I can say about her to other fashionistas is keep it simple yet elegant……. that too much of wealth does not mean you have to show it off to the limit.

Feroze Gujral

Feroze is the quintessential ‘Fashionista’ since the time she first appeared in Digjam Suitings ads in late 1980s. I maintain one thing that she stills looks the same…………….I somehow find her growing younger as each day goes by. She is daring in her style but whatever she wears seem to suit her well. Gowns, skirts, flowy dresses and pants are her style must haves. she is also a writer for many leading newspapers & magazines. One of the few socialites from Delhi who I believe to be ‘est Dressed’on all occasions.

Princess Diya Kumari

Princess Diya Kumari from Jaipur might not be a regular on Page 3 but she has her presence felt every time she is on the cover of a leading magazine or in the newspaper supporting a cause. She is seen regularly in gorgeous chiffon sarees, in a Royal attire, a Salwar Kameez or a designer Sarees when posing for the magazines. Her Grandmother Rajmata Gayatri Devi was known for her beauty and fashion sense. Princess Diya Kumari seems to be carrying on the legacy. As elegant as she is, my wish remains to see her more often in social events where we can catch a glimpse of those amazing Sarees. I am sure that she will be a delight for many of our Indian designers who can design their best for her.
