Falguni & Shane Peacock’s Fall 2013 Collection at New York Fashion Week

Designers Falguni & Shane Peacock once again took the stage with their recent most collection which they presented at NYFW. The collection which primarily had gowns, pants and dresses was done up in dark hues. The 3D prints, the feathers, exaggerated shoulder, the glitter on sheer fabric……all of their signature designs were evident in this collection. Metal detailing in form of peplum was seen in certain outfits.

But to be honest, I fail to see anything new in this collection as I feel I have seen such designs over last 3 seasons. There was definitely nothing exciting in terms of new style. The designer duo should get their grey cells working & churn out something unseen in their next collection. Unfortunately this one is a very forgetful one & I cannot even differentiate between their earlier collections & this one.

Bibhu Mohapatra’s Fall 2013 at New York Fashion Week

Designer Bibhu Mohapatra presented his Fall 2013 collection at Mercedez Benz Fashion Week. The idea behind this collection was 1920s & 1930s in which the designer’s signature geometric prints were also seen. The styling was vintage with hair done up in side swept waves, dark lips combined with smokey eyes while handbags, clutch, vintage hats & platform heel completed the look.

The colours ranged from black, blue, grey, purple to amber yellow & pastels. The collection consisted of gowns, skirts, formal pants, tops, dresses, jackets &  stoles. A lot of fur & velvet was seen in Bibhu’s latest offering but it was the pastel colour gowns that I drew my attention as they were beautiful. Not a fan of the jackets as they lacked proper ‘fit’ which was also evident in few outfits as well.

Wish the designer would sway away from bulky fabrics and have more designs in lighter fabrics. Not a fan of this collection since I was hoping that Bibhu would come up with something new & much more fabulous as his last collection was.

Naeem Khan’s Fall 2013 Collection at New York Fashion Week

Designer Naeem Khan showcased his recent work ‘Fall 2013’ collection at the Mercedes Benz NYFW. Vintage was the theme behind the look of the show…….models walked the runway in vintage formal braided updos while the make-up was au natural. Though I was not that thrilled when Naeem showcased his Spring 2013 collection at NYFW in the year 2012……..this time around I couldn’t help but smile ear to ear after seeing this collection.

The collection included gowns [how does he make them turn out so elegant??], knee-length dresses, velvet jackets, kaftans, formal pants, skirts and scarves. This time around, Naeem experimented with sheer & flowy fabrics like silk, chiffon, georgettes, lace in gowns & dresses while introducing velvet for that regal touch. Love the velvet jacket in maroon which was teamed with formal pants & lace halter top. The colours were red, maroon, blue & black with sequin detail work in gold & silver. The gowns in red & golden were so romantic……..I am sure these will get featured on the red carpet  soon.

All I can say that this collection was ‘BEAUTIFUL’ & ‘AWESOME”…… all in capital of course……..the vintage charm was reflected fabulously in this collection and the sequin work was class apart.

Naeem will be showcasing his works in upcoming fashion week in India……Can hardly wait for that. Watch this space for more update.

Bibhu Mohapatra at New York Fashion Week

Designer Bibhu Mohapatra showcased his collection at Mercedez Benz New York Fashion Week yesterday. Bibhu’s signature style of using fluid prints took a new high in this collection where the prints included designs of a butterfly’s metamorphosis in vivid colors. The lines of the silhouette were sharp and edgy. This collection had me on the use of cobalt blues, olive green and silver grey plus the alluring prints. Loved the red knee length dress which was showcased on the runway. This is definitely one of the alluring collection from designer Bibhu Mohapatra which I very much liked.

Naeem Khan showcases at New York Fashion Week

Designer Naeem Khan showcased his Spring 2013 collection at the Mercedez Benz New York Fashion Week which had a range of knee length dresses, pants, jackets and gowns. Unlike Naeem’s earlier works, shimmer detailing was limited to the bodice part of an outfit. The ‘fit’ was given main emphasis with a fair amount of floral prints, leaf motifs and lace cutwork used in this collection. The collection also included few pieces of Naeem Khan’s signature work – The Kaftan dress in yellow, peach and powder blue shades.

I personally wanted to see more bright colors in Naeem’s collection since this time around the designer went for less detail work. Loved the jackets and the pants in this collection as they oozed ‘sophistication’ which I am sure many fashionista’s will be ready to lay their hands on. This collection was very different from Naeem’s previous collection as prints and monochromes took centre-stage.  The fabric was rich, the ‘Fit’ was perfect and the styling was kept neat. Although keeping in mind the spring season, I hoped Naeem would have surprised with alluring hues…………but maybe that’s just me. A designer who is so creatively gifted, I am too small to judge his work.

Designer Naeem Khan presented his recent Fall 2012 collection at the Mercezeds Benz New York Fashion Week. The collection was done up in black & white had loads of geometric prints, sequin & feather details. The collection largely consisted of gowns had a red carpet appeal. So with the Academy Awards just around the corner, IFP will look forward to see celebs in a Naeem Khan Couture on the red carpet.

Naeem Khan Fall/Winter 2011

How many times can a designer make a comeback in his or her career???? Once, twice ……………ok maybe thrice but that’s where I would draw a line. But Naeem Khan seems to be an exception who happens to make a successful comeback every single time. Every season I eagerly wait for Naeem’s new collection with new hopes that this time around there will be something unique to look forward to…………….I am never disappointed. I heaved a sigh of relief when I saw some colour and detail work in Naeem Khan’s Fall 2011 collection whereas most other designers went more gothic and dark. I must say that cold season does not always have to be dark and gloomy……………….it needs to have a touch of colour here and there.

Naeem has used more prints this time unlike last year’s Fall/Winter 2010 collection where mirror detail work took center stage and the earlier collection was more ‘Rocker Chic’. This time around ‘Sophistication’ was the key to the look on the runway with the models styled with pulled back hairdos, adorned with earrings only walked down the runway, each one looking like a million bucks in the shimmery outfits. There was a large variety in terms of  styles with halter necks in flowy dresses, off shoulder gowns, cocktail dresses with sequin & stone work, prints on black background, kaftans in jewel tones, prints never used before on the runway……………..unique as I said earlier.

I am a fan of the gowns in this collection which had elaborate detail work all over and few of them had sexy eye-catching ‘backs’. The colour palette was more of rich dark shades which totally works for the fall season………..love the rich jewel tones like sapphire blues and ruby reds. The only design which I was not digging was the use of more fur & ostrich feathers which stood out more than the detail work, totally overpowering the entire look………… I have seen Naeem use fur last season’s collection also but that was limited to trimmings only. I understand that the theme required fur to be incorporated but without it too the collection would have worked for me……………………this is just my honest opinion. I truly believe that use of colours combined with detail work are the strong points of Naeem which sets him apart from the rest of the clan.

My verdict : Each Outfit looks like a piece of ‘Art’…………..very alluring, amazingly creative yet extremely sophisticated. Naeem Khan’s hardwork and effort are beautifully reflected in every silhouette.

Bibhu Mohapatra’s Fall 2011 Collection

Bibhu Mohapatra is one of the talented designer hailing from India who is making waves in the fashion industry abroad. He presented his recent Fall/Winter 2011 collection at the Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week which was inspired by ‘The Crucible’. Dark tones ruled the showcasing of his collection including styling. Cocktail dresses are definitely my favourite in this collection with wide legged pants coming a close second. But somehow I am not a fan of his gown creations. His used of fur on jackets and overcoats for this collection  is quite admirable. Though he has used alot of black in order to define the ‘Fall’ theme  plus his inspiration which is also dark in nature, I somehow think more colors might have made a slight difference to the collection like the jewel tones looked beautiful when combined with black. A pop of colour can really do wonders even in winters. The collection was demure yet very ladylike………..I like the collection which had the key element of wear-ability.

Prabal Gurung showcasing Fall/Winter 2011

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week has started off in New York City with Nepalese origin Designer Prabal Gurung presenting his upcoming collection. I love the way Prabal uses colours in every season, he did not disappointment me this time around. The collection had a bit of Gothic touch to it with dark make up……………….. leather look outfits, boots and gloves.  Glamorous Gowns, sexy cocktail dresses, jackets with amazing fit, fur coats, sheer flowy blouse, wide leg pants, shirts with exaggerated shoulders…………the collection had the element of power in it. Though I am not loving the use of lace in few outfits since it stood out garish rather than blending in. Collection kept up to the needs of the upcoming season and would show dark side of any woman in a fabulous stylish manner.

Naeem Khan at New York Fashion Week

Spring is here for sure………………..Oh I know it is still autumn but that is what I am thinking after looking at Naeem Khan’s Spring 2011 collection which he presented on 16th Sept., 2010 at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week 2010 in New York City. His earlier Spring 2010 collection was dominated by colours like black, white, fuchsia, pinks but this time around it is a bouquet of amazing spring colours. Whereas the Autumn 2010 collection had loads of sequins, detail work and tonnes of shimmer…………Spring 2011 had more emphasis on floral details and was very subtle.  If you wish to see Naeem Khan’s Fall 2010 collection please click here

The collection had evening gowns, short summer dresses, cocktail dresses, skirts with flirty tops, Kaftan type dresses with golden embroidery work, one shoulder and even off shoulder dresses. Styling was kept neat in order to give more emphasis to the outfits with straight set in front hairstyles…………………what makes his collection stand out as always has to be the combination of his outfits and the amazing  jewelery……………………………Let me guess Mrs.Ranjana Khan gets the credit for the colourful summer feel jewelery. The collection was all about colour, colour and more colour which is the nerve of any spring collection…………..Naeem Khan has got to the point.

My favourite piece of creation in this collection is definitely the floral motifs on yellow background outfits…………..love the play of different tints & hues with minimal detail work…………..very, very contemporary yet absolutely spring. After seeing all the boring summer collection in whites, blacks and beige [of course it is boring if there ain’t anything new & creative]……………..this collection was like fresh air. Let’s understand that international fashion is not just about ‘cut’ anymore…………the detail work is ‘in vogue’ and the way to future. In fact in my opinion it is the kind of detailing that makes  a designer unique in today’s fashion scene.

My Verdict about the Naeem Khan Spring 2011 collection : His creations are here to stay!!!

P.S. : To the Indian Media : Please do put the spotlight on Indian origin Designers settled abroad for their hard work and show some enthusiasm as you would when you look at any Bollywood celebrity…………….Our country has immense talent settled abroad but we rather admire a foreigner’s work than acknowledge our own people. Pity!!!

Bibhu Mohapatra showcases recent collection at NY Fashion Week

Indian origin Bibhu Mohapatra showcased his recent Spring/Summer 2011 collection at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week 2010. The colours were pretty sober with ash grey, navy blues, olive greens, beige, red wine maroons…………but somehow I missed the bright colours which were displayed in Prabal’s collection. A pop of colour here and there would have given some amazing results.

Fabrics like georgettes and net took centre stage…………….loved the way the entire line was styled with belts, oversized sunglasses and hats………………the collection did give a feel of New York.

Overall the collection was chic, stylish and wearable………………I feel that our Indian Designers can also take a cue to make clothes that are not just suitable for display but can be worn by their cleints. That is a difference I notice in the Fashion Weeks held in India and abroad.
