Green Carpet at IIFA 2013

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on July 7, 2013

IIFA Awards 2013 started in Macau this past weekend. ‘Indian Fashion Police’ brings you the lowdown of the looks on the green carpet of this event.

IIFA-Deepika

Deepika Padukone looked uber hot in a coral floral all-over metallic beaded chiffon wrap-front gown from Naeem Khan’s Spring 2013 collection. Have to say that she has found the perfect designer in Naeem……….with his stylish designs, Deepika can seldom go wrong. Love this look on her.

IIFA-Deepika2

Deepika was also spotted in a Naeem Khan outfit at the IIFA technical awards as well. The beaded top was paired with pants that had a skirt overlay and was a unique choice for the red carpet. What was right that Deepka took a risk which was paid off with the correct styling. Demure choice…….ladies please learn few lessons here. 😉

IIFA-Madhuri

Madhuri Dixit opted for soft pink & blue ‘Manish Malhotra’ anarkali for the IIFA Technical Awards. The outfit spoke loads about style on the red carpet and did not need much styling….the light colours looked beautfiul on Madhuri. Like this look for sure.

IIFA-Madhuri2

Jade by Monica & Karishma designed Madhuri’s outfit for the main IIFA awards. Though I love the black & golden combination of this lehenga but the drapping part spoilt this look entirely. Wish would have drapped it in a more neater way rather than kust putting the pallu over in a jiffy. The hair & the jewels were glorious with this outfit.

IIFA-Anushka

Anushka Sharma was dressed in ‘Roberto Cavalli’ gown in white but the no accessories look felt too plain for a glamorous event. The hair too was lame as was the missing bling. A white pristine gown is a perfect canvas to experiment with matt gold jewellery or colour stone. Add some glam factor to this look Anushka……

IIFA-Sridevi

Sridevi opted for a sequin studded off shoulder gown for the big nite and boy did she look awesome on the green carpet. The side swept hair, stone embellished clutch, red lips and a pose to match said it all. This is how one should look on the red carpet…….Absolutely Glam!!!

IIFA-Neha

Neha Dhupia always stands out in a stylish manner at any event………….even at IIFA she was no exception as she walked the green carpet in ‘Anamika Khanna’ anarkali paired with black pants. The lace detailing of the outfit was elegant  and Neha kept the jewellery to the minimal. The hair  & the make-up blended well with this look………..Adore it on her.

IIFA-JAc

Jacqueline Fernandes also went all glam in this ‘Roberto Cavalli” outfit in shimmer gold. Love the vintage Hollywood-style hair that gave alot of focus on the décolletage area. For the event this look is definitely one of my favourite.

IIFA-Amrita

Amrita Rao in a shimmer gown as well failed to make any impression in this outfit. The hair was messy & not stylish, there was nothing new in her make-up and the look was devoid of any eye-catching accessory. Need Amrita to find her signature look.

IIFA-Vidya

OK we have seen Vidya don Sabyasachi looks on the red carpet but watching similar looks over & over again is not that exciting at all.  Even in Sabyasachi’s recent collection there is so much of beautiful colours & designs………..so why not opt for those Vidya instead of sticking to dull colours. As for IIFA, Vidya is wearing ‘Sabyasachi’  lehenga.

IIFA-Huma

Huma Qureshi decided to go black in this outfit by designer ‘Nikhil Thampi’ ………..not at all excited about the accessories which Huma opted for with this dress. I do like Huma’s hair & make-up but the nude lips with the chunky cuff & nude peep toes did nothing much to call this look amazing. So much experimentation in terms of shoes & accessories could have been done on this silhouette….sigh!!

IIFA-Lisa

Lisa Haydon in ‘Namrata Joshipura’ gown………something in this outfit reminds me of the term ‘Gothic’  but Lisa manages to make this look good on the green carpet. The braided hair compliments the look perfectly………..like it.

IIFA-Divya

Divya Dutta made a pretty picture in red saree at the IIFA awards…….even though this might not be the best look seen till date, Divya does look beautiful in this saree and this one of the good looks seen on Divya in a long time.

IIFA-Minissha

Minissha Lamba in ‘Ayesha Depala’ gown which had feather touch, was paired with a metallic belt. The look was not that great and wish Minissha would have opted for another outfit altogether………..this one made her look more like a blanket than glamorous.

IIFA-Shahid

IIFA-Shahrukh

What is the most common mistake that Indian actors make when they are dressed on the red carpet………they forget or absolutely ignore to shave off the unnecessary stubble when they are wearing a Tuxedo. Please go all clean when one wants to wear a tuxedo on the red carpet……….cleaner the look the better dressed one looks.

66th Cannes Film Festival – Closing Ceremony

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on May 27, 2013

Cannes13-Vidya16 Cannes13-Vidya17

Vidya Balan attended the ‘Zulu’ premiere at the closing ceremony of Cannes in Sabyasachi of course. But the skirt of this anarkali was the disappointment as it looked very wrinkled & lacked the flowy grace. Coupled with the loose hairdo which I am certainly not a fan of……………this look could have been way more better. 😦

Cannes13-Aishwarya8

Cannes13-Aishwarya9

Aishwarya attended the Life AIDS Charity ball in a sparkling ‘Roberto Cavalli’ gown…………….after disappointing hairstyles, the loose curl locks looked pretty good on her…………plus the gown itself did not need any accessorizing as it had plenty of shimmer. Wish she would have posed on the red carpet in this very look…………Sigh!

66th Cannes Film Festival – Day 6

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on May 21, 2013

Cannes13-Aishwarya4

Cannes13-Aishwarya5

Just as we were starting to enjoy the beautiful red carpet looks of Aishwarya, this look came as quite a shocker to me for this diva. Aishwarya walked the red capet for the screening of ‘Blood Ties’……..the heavily embellished ‘Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla’ gown was combined with messed up hairstyle & a big golden clutch. There was absolutely nothing exceptional about this look…………..unfortunately this is one of the worst looks for this year at Cannes. Somehow felt the outfit was too heavy on Aishwarya, wish she would have opted for a much more slimming silhouette.

Cannes13-Vidya14

Cannes13-Vidya15

On the other hand Vidya Balan continued to floor us with her looks at Canneswhere she attended  the premiere for ‘Un Chateau en Italie’………..in another ‘Sabyasachi’ creation this time Vidya combined the outfit with pearl strings & pearl-kundan earrings. The make-up was kept minimal which is how it should be during daytime & Vidya had her wicked smile to complete the look……………LOVE!!

Cannes13-Tejaswini

Model-Actress Tejaswini Kolhapure was spotted at Cannes where she attended the ‘Bombay Talkies’ screening. Tejaswini wore a Payal Singhal outfit but the disappointment was her hair & make-up which made the look absolutely shabby. With a bit of highlight to the yes & styled hair this look could have been much better.

66th Cannes Film Festival – Day 5

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on May 20, 2013

Cannes13-Aishwarya

Cannes-Aishwarya3

Cannes-Aishwarya4

The Cannes veteran is back again with style…….Aishwarya Rai Bachchan walked the Cannes red carpet in ‘Elie Saab’ couture gown. As predicted by IFP, ‘Elie Saab’ had to be one of her outfit choices for the event. A slimmer version of Aishwarya has emerged this year and boy she did make a pretty picture in it. Like the outfit but love Aishwarya’s hair & make-up. The look was kept neat & simple, which made it look fabulous.

Cannes13-Aishwarya2

Sabyasachi was also one of Aishwarya’s pick for this year at Cannes. She wore the lehenga for celebrating ‘100 years of Indian Cinema’ at Cannes……………the hair, the outfit  & the jewels were absolutely flawless. Love this look on Aishwarya……Classic all the way.

Cannes13-Aishwarya3

Aishwarya also looked stunning in a black & white outfit for the interviews before she headed for the red carpet. Loving her new slender look and IFP can sure say that this yummy mummy is back to rule at Cannes, once again.

Cannes13-Vidya12

Cannes13-Vidya13

Vidya Balan also in Sabyasachi opted for a silk saree for the screening of ‘Bombay Talkies’……..the look was different from her earlier appearance at Cannes & different is what we like. I somehow love the elegant Indian looks that Vidya has donned in the past few days………..a few glitches here & there can be ignored since she emerged to be one of the ‘Best Dressed’ in our Bollywood industry. Kudos to her for not taking the gown route & embracing the saree with such class.

Cannes13-Chiranjeevi

South Star Chiranjeevi, along with his wife, son Ram Charan & Daughter-in-law Upasana graced the red carpet at Cannes Film Festival. Father & son did look dapper in tuxedos at this event.

Cannes13-Nimrit

Actress Nimrit Kaur was also spotted in a ‘Sabyasachi’ creation as she walked the red carpet along with actor Nawazuddin Siddique. All I can say she looked good and designer Sabyasachi had the entire day 5 dedicated to himself….. 🙂

Cannes-Mallika2

Mallika Sherawat has polished up her look for this year’s Cannes Film Festival & IFP is more than delighted to see her in couture gowns. She walked the red carpet yesterday in a ‘Dolce & Gabbana’ lace gown………..her hair & make-up were kept simple. I might not be in awe of the gown but Mallika did look pretty in this outfit………What say people???

Cannes13-BT2

Cannes-BT

Also walking the red carpet were the directors of ‘Bombay Talkies’ Anurag Kashyap, Karan Johar, Zoya Akhtar & Dibanker Banerjee. Anurag & Karan opted for tuxedo whereas Dibanker went the Indian route in a bandhgala jacket. Zoya was seen wearing a white ‘n’ maroon saree with what appeared to be like Parsi ghara motif on it.

Cannes13-Irfan

Irfan Khan was also present at the screening of ‘Bombay Talkies’ and sure surprised me with his formal look. The only complain that I have is the unshaved look & the drooping neck tie bow. Seems Irfan was in a hurry to reach the red carpet on time … 😉

66th Cannes Film Festival – Day 2

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on May 17, 2013

Cannes13-Freida2

After an adventurous Day 1, Indian celebrities brought in Day 2 with a lot of style. But it was Freida Pinto who took the cake on Day 2 with her vintage inspired look. Freida looked absolutely like a Hollywood starlet in this grey gown by ‘Sanchita’ topped with 1920s inspired hairstyle. One of her best looks so far at Cannes for sure.

Cannes13-Sonam3

Sonam Kapoor again surprised people in this voluminous ball gown by Dolce & Gabbana. Love the colour of the outfit plus the fact that Sonam kept the styling simple & let the print do all the talking. Though I am yet to see a look that makes me go ‘WOW’ but this is pleasantly different than her earlier red carpet looks.

Cannes13-Vidya10

Cannes13-Vidya11

The day is never gonna be complete without Vidya Balan’s red carpet appearance………..Ms. Balan who again opted for Sabysachi added alot of jewels by designer ‘Pankaj Surana’. Not a big fan of nathani on Vidya since it seems to be an extra add-on which was unnecessary. The look might have worked better without the nathani as the necklace looked alluring on this silhouette. As for the outfit…..no complains at all. No one could have made Vidya look so elegant as Sabysachi did.

66th Cannes Film Festival – Day 1

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on May 16, 2013

66th Cannes Film Festival went on floors with the star studded première of ‘The Great Gatsby’ where Mr. Amitabh Bachchan walked the red carpet with the cast of the movie.

Cannes13-AB2

But I was sorely disappointed to see him in a sequin studded dinner jacket…………truly wish he would have opted for a simpler silhouette than opt for too much of shine.

Cannes13-AB

The photocall session of ‘The Great Gatsby’

Cannes13-Vidya6

Vidya Balan was seen in a Sabyasachi Lehenga on the red carpet of the opening ceremony. The draping of the dupatta definitely spoilt the entire look………..wish the draping was done more neatly……..even better if Vidya would have worn the dupatta on the side & not covering her head. As for the jewels & the outfit I have no complains at all.

Cannes13-Vidya9

Cannes13-Vidya5

The Jury members walk the red carpet at the opening ceremony.

Cannes13-Vidya7

Cannes13-Vidya8

Cannes13-Vidya4

I loved the saree look of Vidya at the photocall of the Jury at Cannes. The look was by Sabyasachi & jewels by Amrapali but love the sophistication it had. Wish Vidya would have worn this look to the red carpet………….sigh.

Cannes13-Freida

Freida Pinto walked the red carpet in a sorbet pink colour Gucci gown…………..as for her petite frame I found the gown a bit too overwhelming plus the hairdo did not do any good to her look. Freida would have rocked the red carpet if she would have left her hair open and shortened the length of the gown a wee bit.

Cannes13-Sonam

Cannes13-Sonam2

Sonam Kapoor wore ‘Anamika Khanna’ & a nathani by ‘Sunita Kapoor’………..the lace saree was combined with a  beaded jacket. The look had a very international feel to it but I thought the nathani made the look ‘too desi’. A pair of studd earrings might have worked better. But we do know that we can only expect something new from Sonam every time she walks the red carpet.

Cannes-FreidaSonam

Also spotted were Sonam & Freida together before walking the red carpet. The two beauty ambassador of  L’oreal did look fashionable. Sonam is wearing a saree by Huemn and earrings by Suhani Pittie.

Cannes13-Mallika

Mallika Sherawat in a golden colour gown & looking all polished was a shock to me since she did look pretty. Though not a fan of the gown but Mallika’s hair & make-up plus the way this entire look was put together was worth a note. Hope to see a classy Mallika emerge at future sightings on the red carpet.

Vidya Balan arrives like a ‘Royal’ at Cannes

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on May 15, 2013

Cannes13-Vidya2

The Cannes madness begins with actress Vidya Balan arriving at the venue in true Indian style. Vidya wore a red ‘Sabyasachi’ Lehenga which had detailing limited to the hemlines …… she paired the look with a matching potli bag. The earrings are from ‘Amrapali’ & Vidya kept her hair/make-up minimal.

IFP was sure that Vidya who is a Sabyasachi & Amrapali loyalist could never go wrong with their designs. Vidya has been invited to this year’s Cannes Film Festival as one of the Jury member. Waiting & wanting to see more of her red carpet looks. The start is stunning and I truly hope that her Cannes journey leaves a beautiful red carpet memory etched into our minds.

Know Your Saree – Paithani

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on April 11, 2013

Paithani collage

After exploring the Kanjeevarem from South India to the Chanderi saree from Madhya Pradesh, IFP takes you to Maharashtra where the beautiful ‘Paithani’ saree came into existence. Paithani silk originated from a town named ‘Paithan’ in Aurangabad district in Maharashtra. This saree is a rich heritage that the state of Maharashtra has to offer to people all over the world. Paithani sarees are worn by women in Maharashtra during auspicious occasions like marriages and other important family celebrations. The art of weaving this royal silk has been passed on to generations since the Maratha Empire Era……..despite many centuries have passed, this saree is one of the best ever made in India.

Available in silk, Paithani sarees have a heavy zari border & pallu woven out of golden threads. Motifs of peacock, parrot and  lotus top the list of the zari designs on Paithani sarees. Earlier the zari borders were woven out of pure gold threads mixed with copper but currently  silver is used as the base for the gold coated threads. Traditional colours preferred would be yellow, green, purple, magenta, red……….the brighter the shade, the better it looks. Sometimes two different shades of silk threads are used while weaving to get a kaleidoscopic effect of the saree. Each Paithani saree might take upto 18 to 24 months time in weaving…….that also depends on the intricacy of the designs.

This saree has been portrayed very beautifully in some of Raja Ravi Varma’s paintings in which he has beautifully depicted a Maharashtrian lady adorned with jewellery & a ‘Paithani’ saree.

Paithani-RajaRaviVarma

This age old silk has found admiration from the celebrity world in abundance. Most recently Genelia D’souza wore a Paithani saree in red  for her wedding to Riteish Deshmukh while other well known faces like Rani Mukherjee, Vidya Balan, Kirron Kher, Mahima Chaudhary & Maria Goretti have worn it at red carpet events.

L’oreal Paris Femina Women Awards 2013

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on March 20, 2013

Starting since 2012, L’oreal Paris & Femina magazine have collaborated to honour Indian women who have made a difference to our society by their work. Women who have been achieved extraordinary feats in their lifetime were nominated for these awards. IFP takes you through the red carpet of this event held in Mumbai.

LFWA-Ash

Take a beautiful ‘Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna’ gown, have hair & make-up done………then pop in a day wear blazer to spoil the entire look………..that is what Aishwarya did at the event. Aishwarya who is always impeccably dressed seems to be eager to cover up her post baby body. It is a personal choice, but please don’t wear clothes that look like a tent on the red carpet.  Seriously I am disappointed this time around.

LFWA-Sonam

Sonam Kapoor dressed in ‘Atsu Sekhose’ gown and vintage hair + make-up walked the red carpet at the event. Though the lace bodice combined with printed skirt might not appeal in the very first look, but the styling got me convinced that Sonam did look beautiful. Love her shoes which were so understated but so fashionable.

LFWA-Aditi

Aditi Rao Hydari was dressed in ‘Anand Kabra’…….the hair & make-up teamed with the short anarkali looked good on Aditi but it was the salwar that bothered me. I wish Aditi had combined these anarkali with a pair of straight leg pants rather than these voluminous salwar.

LFWA-Mini

Mini Mathur decided to ditch her saree look and opt for a western look in this sheath dress which she combined with a ‘Bottega Veneta’ clutch, a funky neck-piece and golden heels. Black stilettos might have looked better with this outfit but Mini was able to carry this look of well.

LFWA-Neha

Neha Dhupia combined 2 designer pieces together for this look. ‘Anaikka’ top that had detail-work on the neckline & ‘Ranna Gill’ skirt. Now that was something new seen on the red carpet and I must say that Neha looked really good on the red carpet. Only few people can take fashion risks on the red carpet, Neha is sure one of IFP’s favourite.

LFWA-Shabana

Shabana Azmi was the red carpet surprise of the evening as she walked in wearing a ‘Manish Malhotra’ outfit. Love her new hairdo which made her look so fresh……..Shabana donned a bright pink colour which women at her age might shy away from, She looked elegant and IFP is loving Shabana’s look for the evening.

LFWA-Richa

Richa Chadda wore golden shimmer ‘Vizyon’ outfit  paired with matching heels………….I must say this is one of her good appearances on the red carpet since a long time. I do like her neat, sophisticated look which she worked well……..maybe a bit of ‘pop of colour’ was required but hey that is just me.

LFWA-Sakshi

Sakshi Tanwar also made an appearance at this event in a saree which had phulkari motifs at the border. Sakshi accessorized the look with earrings, kangan & a ring. She looked beautiful in this outfit and it is a relief that she stayed away from the usual beaded ‘soap opera’ style of saree.

LFWA-Vidya

Vidya Balan in her signature saree style attended the event but I am not in awe of her look which had too much printed combined in one outfit. The zari border print saree would have worked better if paired with a black blouse instead. Hope to see Ms. Balan in churidhar kurti look for a much awaited change.

Renault Star Guild Awards 2013

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on February 18, 2013

Star Guild Awards held in Mumbai and hosted for the very first time by Salman Khan [can’t wait to watch that] ……the red carpet had many Bollywood haseenas strutting in their designer wear. IFP takes a look at who wore what at this event.

Renault-Priyanka

Priyanka Chopra opted for Shehlaa Khan glittery outfit that she paired it with what seems like a ‘Pinky Saraf’ clutch and blue-golden sandals. The look which was again in pastel colour did not stand out plus the shoes made the look even worse. Just not feeling this styling which could have been way better.

Renault-Anushka

Anushka Sharma manages to do a 360 degree turn around on the red carpet when she walked in in a saree, pulled back hair and jhumkaas. The ‘MAnish Malhotra’ saree looked good on her but it was the earrings that IFP is absolutely in love with. Anushka rocked this look especially after seeing her in series of mini dresses & gown.

Renault-Ekta

Ekta Kapoor was promoting her upcoming movie ‘Ek thi Daayan’ by wearing this one shoulder ‘what-to-call’  outfit. Pair it with space jumping shoes and voila you have a modern day style diva from hell. As good as her movies are and as much as money she makes from them, she could afford the best in fashion to style her. Sigh……

Renault-Vidya

Vidya Balan again opted for ‘Sabyasachi’ but this time there was a twist in form of shimmer blouse. The blouse alone is somewhat too loud but Vidya seems to have played this look well by combining an understated saree & avoiding heavy jewellery. A good look but not one of her best for sure.

Renault-Eleana

Ileana D’cruz wore a floral ‘Dolce & Gabbana’ outfit which seemed too busy with the print & net combined. Plus the hair too was not  working with this outfit. Wish Ileana could have opted for simple silhouette than this one.

Renault-Aditi

Aditi Rao Hydari in a peach ‘Payal Singhal’ saree looked as if she put the entire look in hurry. The big curls with the draping of her saree spoilt this entire look which could have been so elegant if styled differently. This look lacked grace in it……….not liking even a bit.

Renault-Hema

Hema Malini wore a ‘Neeta Lulla’ saree in pastel which was just too shiny for me. But Hemaji worked the look with her choice of clutch and diamond jewellery. On anyone else the look would have come across as garish but not on Hema Malini.

Renault-Neetu

As much as I love Neetu Chandra’s yellow saree, it is her halter blouse & make-up which makes me twitch.  The saree could have been paired with a contrasting brocade blouse with short sleeves rather than a stringy halter. The foundation appeared too light on her face than her neck…………wish Neetu would wake up from a bad dream.

Renault-Sonakshi

Sonakshi Sinha in a ‘Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla’ design which did look elegant on the red carpet but with the designer dupatta trailing the floor, Sonakshi should have worn it better. The look lacked colour since the accessories, the shoes and the outfits itself were done up in pastels. Wish Sonakshi would have added emerald or ruby earrings for that ‘pop of colour’.

Renault-Sophie

Sophie Choudry who is immaculately dressed on the red carpet, seems to have take a day off………Sophie wore ‘Alice+Olivia’ gown in black combined with a red lips. This outfit which had sheer skirt, screamed for bold accessories. A contemporary neck-piece might have worked better. Not a fan of this look which was evidently too simple & boring.

Renault-Sridevi

Sridevi in ‘Sabyasachi’ lehenga which was an unusal choice for the red carpet but definitely an excellent one. Sridevi combined this outfit with a potli bag, dangling earrings & a side swept braid. Love this look on her which was classy, sophisticated and beautiful.

Red Carpet at the Filmfare Awards 2013

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on January 21, 2013

58th Filmfare Awards were held at Yashraj studios in Mumbai. Ranbir Kapoor & Vidya Balan walked away with the leading actor awards, yet again. Annu Kapoor & Anushka Sharma took home the filmfare for their supporting roles while Barfi was awarded the ‘Best Film’ award. Many congratulations to the winners………….now getting back to our fashion business, Filmfare Awards are a big deal for fashionistas as it sets the tone for the year ahead in terms of celebrity fashion. IFP takes you through the red carpet of this event & reviews the fashion.

Filmfare-Deepika2

Deepika Padukone in a demure Prabal Gurung…….with a body like hers I feel she did absolute justice to this outfit. On anyone else this gown would have looked trashy but Deepika wowed me…….the fit, the cut [especially the cut work], sheer draping,  no accessories, coral lips and hair tied up. Deepika is back to rule the red carpet for sure. Love it…….. 🙂

Filmfare-Ileana

Ileana D’cruz wanted to shine for the big nite…..she did bag the ‘Promising Newcomer’ Award for her role in ‘Barfi’. This ‘Roberto Cavalli’ outfit reminds me of the glittery 1970s where sequins were very fashionable. Not a fan of this outfit, but Ileana did manage to tone the look down with tasteful jewellery, clutch & shoes  to match.

Filmfare-Ranbir2

Ranbir Kapoor dressed in all black three piece suit which did look vintage especially the button detail on the jacket. I wish Ranbir would surprise us with much more fresher looks especially in Indianwear. The stubble & the all black attire is turning a bit boring. He is a fine actor of this generation, but would love to see him rock the red carpet too. SIGH!! 😦 😦

Filmfare-Priyanka

Priyanka Chopra has been wearing alot of colour lately but never expected her to wear something so loud. The colour with so much of glossy sheen was simply over the top……..add the trail of the gown & we  have a Prom Queen. Hate this look on Priyanka though neck up she did look very pretty but the outfit is altogether a different story. 😦 😦 😦

Filmfare-Alia

Alia Bhatt making a graceful appearance in ‘Manish Malhotra’ lehenga in which she looked pretty. But why opt for something so safe, why not experiment a bit with your style???

Filmfare-Anushka

Anushka Sharma made me remembered the 1960s era where the flower power was on its rise and the winged eye-liner trend at its peak. The canary yellow colour is lust worthy and the entire looks spells vintage. She is wearing a ‘Victoria Beckham’ gown. L-O-V-E in capital for this look………that aside,  Anushka would look wonderful with a fuller figure though……what say people???

Filmfare-Chitra

Breaking away from the conventional lehenga & anarkali style, Chitrangada Singh made me proud in this ‘Anand Kabra’ outfit. The side swept braid, vintage jewellery and the colour all get browny points from IFP. Chitrangada has been a risk taker on screen as well off it and her style shows positive signs of the same.

Filmfare-Minnisha

Minnisha Lamba in a Krishna Mehta pastel outfit………….with the lack of some bright colour this look was a total wash-out on Minnisha. I wish she would have added the colour in form of jewellery or bright coloured lipstick. I did see this collection of Krishna on the runway and also liked it. But not liking the way this outfit was styled on Minnisha. Sigh…:-(

Filmfare-Neha

Neha Dhupia wore a ‘Victoria Beckham’ outfit in black with hair accesories to highlight her look. I do like this look but wish she would have added some more drama to her look. The plain outfit of hers is like a canvas which Neha could have made look a lot more glamorous with addition of a belt to match her jewellery.  Nonetheless simple look works as well.

Filmfare-Yami

Yami Gautam in a ‘Tarun Tahiliani’ pastel lehenga…………waist up she does look pretty but it is the detailing on lehenga which was not needed. The corset type choli would have looked better if it was paired with a plain net lehenga. But hey, that is just me……….do you like this look of hers???

Filmfare-MAdhuri2

Madhuri Dixit Nene went all glam in this shimmer blue ‘Alberto Makali’    …………..she has taken a risk opting for this gown and unfortunately this one comes across as too flashy than classy for me.  I wish she would have given one of those ‘Dior’ looks in which she looks heavenly………shimmer in subtle proportion looks good but too much can spoil the entire look.

Filmfare-PArineeti

Parineeti Chopra seems to be taking a liking to Gothic looks coz her ‘Rajat Tangri’ dress goes feel dark to me. On Parineeti the dress is a misfit…………just not feeling this satin attire. Wish Parineeti would have opted for a more colourful appearance that go all black in satin. I find this look totally dated. 😦 😦

Filmfare-Sridevi

Sridevi in coral ‘Alberta Ferretti’ gown is a surprise for me……..fortunately it is a pleasant one. Though this might not be her best looks till date but the elegant manner in which she carries off this look is superb. Pairing the outfit with a Judith Leiber which works well with her outfit, IFP is happy to see Sridevi take risks. 🙂 🙂

Filmfare-Vidya2

Vidya Balan in her trademark ‘Sabyasachi’ saree posed along with her hubby Siddharth Roy Kapur. Though we have seen the check saree on her earlier too in a different design, I wish Vidya would opt for something out of the designer’s new collection. It is boring to see her don the same look while taking no risk. 😦

Filmfare-Raveena

A cocktail saree in black & green looks beautiful………top it off with hairstyle with tight curls and you have a recipe for style disaster. That is exactly what Raveena Tandon did to this look.  I do like her outfit but her hair……..please someone tell her hairstylist to have some mercy.  😦

Filmfare-Urmila

Urmila Matondkar in her ‘Manish Malhotra’ style did manage to look good after a lonnnnnnggg time. She absolutely had me on the colour of her outfit plus the styling was in sync with her attire. Absolutely like this one 🙂

Filmfare-Aditi

Aditi Rao Hydari went the saree route in this Gaurav Gupta……….she looked amazing in this grey shimmer saree that gave a very gown like feel to the look. She kept the look understated with minimum accessories………one of the few looks given by Aditi. 🙂

Filmfare-Shahana

Amongst the celebrities who opted for traditional attire, Shahana Goswami was a delight to see. Dressed in a ‘Sabyasachi’ black lehenga, she did look glamorous and perfectly styled for the evening. The hair pinned up in a bun, the red lipstick and only earrings look works for me………what about you???

GQ Men of the Year Awards 2012

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 2, 2012

GQ ‘Men of the Year’ Awards which is an annual affair, was held in Mumbai and the celebs graced this event in their best attire. ‘Indian Fashion Police’ gets you a low down on who wore what and how did they fare??

Now somebody has been taking style tips from his fashionista daughters………Glad to see Anil Kapoor in a Tuxedo which he style with a muffler. The clean shave look definitely got browny points from my side………….love this sophisticated ‘Dolce & Gabbana’ look on this handsome man. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Amitabh Bachchan who despite being unwell, walked the red carpet of this event in a Jodhpuri jacket. All I can say is that he has made the Jodhpuri jacket look so fashionable, do I need to complaint about it?? 🙂 🙂

Kajol who lately has been catching our attention for her amazing wardrobe choices, opted for a ‘Prabal Gurung’ satin dress. Though many bloggers were not in awe of this look, IFP felt that it was just the shoes which marred the look. I personally like the outfit and Kajol’s hair & make-up in this look. Ajay Devgan did look dapper in his suit and as a couple, I do like the pair very much. The only hitch is that Kajol’s outfit could have been styled better…… 😦

Vidya Balan was again seen in a Sabyasachi saree in dual tone which we have seen something similar on Sridevi few weeks earlier. Vidya did look good but I wish she would have accesorised a bit. IFP thinks Sridevi made this look work much better which you can check here.

Deepika Padukone in a red hot ‘Gaurav Gupta’ lace gown which I can describe as ‘Vintage meets contemporary’. The gown with it’s sheer lace detailing to show off Deepika’s hot bod is soften by her vintage style hairdo. Thankfully Deepika kept other things to bare minimum……………..IFP loves this look of hers. 🙂 🙂 🙂

It was a delight to see Konkona on the red carpet after ages especially when she looked so good in this saree combined with a print blouse. Handloom silks are not an easy one to carry off but Konkona does the job so effortlessly. IFP likes this look. 🙂 🙂

Siddharth Mallya surprised us by dressing in a white Tuxedo which on anyone else would have not looked so sleek. But that still leaves me with a question is why do men opt for white?? 😉

John Abraham walked in hand-n-hand with Priya Runchal who looked fabulous in a red ‘Victoria Beckham’ gown will accesorising the rest in black. The soft curl hairdo and a smile are a sure winner on the red carpet……..as for John who thankfully was dressed in formals did look good. But it was Priya al the way who won IFP’s style votes………….. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Nargis Fakhri wowed the crowd in a Roberto Cavalli which she glamed up with a chunky necklace. The outfit fits her like a glove but it definitely has to be the accessories which get her a 10 on 10 score. IFP loves this look of Nargis. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Jacqueline Fernandes opted for a Amit GT fish tail gown in black and boy did she make this outfit work. The hair is what I am crazy about……..sleek, pushed back hairdo which blended perfectly well with her look. No complains here 🙂 🙂

I wonder if Neil Nitin Mukesh just walked off from his film shoot and forgot to change his costume. Unfortunately that was not the case………..GQ did have it’s very own shiny disco ball the moment Neil walked in. Sad to see bad outfits sometimes happen to the most handsome faces. 😦 😦 😦

Sarah Jane Dias was a vision in blue ‘AM:PM gown [Ankur Modi & Priyanka Modi]. The drape of the gown was beautiful and the hairdo of Sarah was alluring. IFP likes to see Sarah don the divalicious look at this red carpet. Perfect I say…… 🙂 🙂 🙂

Dia Mirza wore an Anita Dongre saree in black & white but somehow this look did not stand out a bit. Wish Dia would have opted for a bright coloured saree instead of going for a safe route in black & white. Missing the glamour quotient here . 😦 😦 😦

Shazahn Padamsee wore a ‘Shivan-Naresh’ gown which IFP has no complains about. But absolutely disappointed with the big clutch which took away the emphasis from the dress. The outfit is perfect as Shazahn is young and can experiment with her looks for the red carpet but this entire look lacks good styling. ‘Yay’ 🙂 for the outfit but ‘Nay’ 😦 for the styling & clutch.

Rahul Bose makes me smile every time he walks the red carpet. Maybe it has something to do with the ease he carries off any sort of fabric with style. He wore a velvet dinner jacket, which is not an easy thing to carry off but on Rahul the entire look works well. He kept the vest and trousers simple with a white bow-tie. Like it…….absolutely. 🙂 🙂

Kalki Koechlin wore a ‘Gaurav Gupta’ gown in golden but somehow this look of Kalki fell flat. The detailing on the bodice & it’s fit bothered me a whole lot. On someone who is a risk taker, it might have worked but Kalki kept her look absolutely simple. IFP thinks this look needed to be more daring in terms of styling. As for Anurag Kashyap……..thank you for ditching the denims. 😉

Esha Gupta in a Rohit Gandhi-Rahul Khanna gown in give me the vibes of vintage inspired look. But in comes the shoes as spoilers. Esha did look pretty in this ensemble but the strappy sandals make me wonder if Esha had a good look in the full length mirror before stepping out. IFP  thinks open toe pumps in neutral shade would have worked since gowns require ample of heel. 😦 😦

Esha Deol – Bharat Takhtani Reception

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on July 1, 2012

Esha Deol & Bharat Takhtani’s wedding reception was held in Mumbai yesterday. The bride wore a fabulous ‘Rocky S’ lehenga in pink color while the groom was dressed in a tuxedo. IFP was excited to cover the wedding online and see the bridal trends Esha-Bharat nuptials. Many Bollywood celebrities graced this occasion for which IFP gives you an exclusive look.

Hema Malini and Ahana Deol opted for outfits by designer Neeta Lulla while Dharamendra kept it simple with a suit. Dilip Kumar & Saira Banu, Madhuri Dixit with her husband Dr. Shriram Nene, Rekha, Sushmita Sen, Anupam Kher with wife Kirron Kher, Kajol with mother Tanuka & sister Tanisha, MAdhoo, Shamita Shetty, Tabu, Sridevi with husband Boney Kapoor were few A-list guests who attended this event. IFP hearts Tabu’s look in Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla which stood out for it’s amazing bright color & Kajol’s look in Shehla Khan which spelt elegance all the way.

Green Carpet at IIFA Awards 2012

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on June 11, 2012

IIFA 2012 were held in Singapore last weekend with a lot of hoo-halla. As for us we waited to see the celebrities walk the green carpet at this event. Of course we wanted to see what each celeb wore to this event. Here is IFP’s review of the green carpet at IIFA Awards 2012.

Bipasha Basu swept people off their feet in this glorious ‘Gauri-Nainika’ gown. The red looked fabulous on her while the leopard print clutch adds the fun element to the outfit.IFP loves this demure look on her…………’sexy’ is how we can define this look in a word.

Bipasha wore a Shivan-Narresh designed saree to the event ‘IIFA Rocks’ on day 2 but not a fan of the look. IFP likes Bipasha in more sophisticated looks these days and this outfit does no justice to her. Plus the straight hair falls flat on this look. Thankfully the red gown saves the day.

Priyanka Chopra wore a pretty ‘Dolce & Gabbana’ strapless gown and looked absolutely heavenly on the green carpet. The hair, the make-up and the dangling earrings suited her look perfectly. The peach net gown which had floral detailing all over……..IFP likes the gown and Priyanka’s sophisticated style.

Vidya Balan has a new designer in tow………..she wore a ‘Masaba Gupta’ saree from her recent collection and is able to carry off the silhouette effortlessly. Though there is nothing much exciting about this look, Vidya does look pretty in this black ensemble…….hoping to see more contemporary looks on her in near future.

Rekha surprised us by showing up on the green carpet of IIFA 2012. She was in her signature look with a Kanjeevaram saree and traditional Indian jewellery. The only thing that looked out of place has to her clutch bag which did not match the outfit. Wish Rekha had opted for a potli bag in golden color. Otherwise no one makes a a Kanjeevaram look so glamorous as Rekha does.

Preity Zinta tried to wow us in this fuchsia gown  but the drapes gave the look away. IFP likes the hair though but the gemstone studded clutch or the neck piece fail to attract our attention. Overall not feeling this ‘Ramona Narang’ look on Preity since have seen this beautiful lady do better on the red carpet.

Sridevi seems to be growing younger by the day………IFP was stunned to see her in a Manish Malhotra saree that was coupled with a strapless blouse. The hair, the make-up, the jewels and the clutch…everything made her look amazing. One of our favorite looks from IIFA this year.

Nargis Fakhri also went red in this ‘Dior’ gown and side swept hairdo but unfortunately this look did not stun us.  Nargis is young and has a perfect body to take some fashion risks. I wonder why is she opting for gowns that do not flatter her body type. IFP wishes to see Nargis in  contemporary designer outfits than going safe.

Nargis opted for ‘Anaikka’ saree at the ‘IIFA Rocks’……IFP likes this contemporary saree look. The blouse had defined shoulders with all over metal detail work while the saree was kept simple with only a border matching the blouse. A risk definitely paid off well in this case.

IFP also spotted the lovely Dia Mirza in a ‘RockyS’ dress in ash grey color for the ‘IIFA Rocks’ event. The net silhouette had beautiful detail work on the bodice part but somehow failed to make a lasting impression on our minds. I think the length of the dress if kept longer would have looked better on Dia.

Dia wore an off-white saree with golden & silver border by ‘Anita Dongre’  and combined it with a choker neckpiece. Love the saree from Anita’s resort wear collection but the jewellery seems a bit out of place here. IFP wishes Dia would have opted for something in gold to match the saree border.

Kalki Koechlin has been riding the wave of being one of the better dressed in Bollywood. She did not disappoint us this time around as she walked the green carpet in a beautiful ‘Victoria Beckham’ dress with a broad envelope clutch. She looked pretty in a wavy hairdo plus the fuchsia color made her glow on the red carpet. IFP likes it and you???

Parineeti Chopra arrived in style at IIFA in this ‘Jatin Varma’ gown which had a fitted bodice underneath the net silhouette. This might not be one of the best looks at IIFA but Parineeti did look cute in this blue outfit. IFP digs the fit of this gown that suits Parineeti’s petite frame. All I can say that this young women is just getting started in the style department, hope to see more amazing looks from her.

Celebrities who look their best in Saree

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on June 6, 2012

A Saree is something not all women can carry off……… as it requires a lot of attention to details when i come to selecting the saree material, type of drape and how to wear it.  Only few women in the fashion scene have done justice to a Saree. This is perhaps one of IFP’s most read articles, so had to add a couple of names more and present the write-up in a new look.

Vidya Balan

Vidya Balan is the epitome of old time charm when dressed in a saree. The only designer who does justice to her looks is Sabhyasachi Mukherjee whose designs are not over the edge yet feminity is at it’s classic best. In the initial days Vidya Balan did mess up a lot with her looks………………remember the hideous Orange Salwar Kameez she wore while hosting Filmfare Awards……………long are those days gone and I am glad that the lady knows what looks good on her. She does make heads turn at red carpet events with her beautifully crafted sarees. Loved her look in movies like ‘Bhool Bholaiya’ & ‘Paa’ but off-screen she is the one responsible to bring the 3/4th sleeve blouses and handloom sarees back in fashion. In a saree, Vidya could do no wrong and is today regarded as one of India’s Best Dressed.

Shilpa Shetty

No one on the Indian Fashion Scene could have looked so hot and sexy in a Saree as Shilpa Shetty did. She has simply re-defined the trend of wearing a ‘Saree’. Thanks to her Designer Tarun Tahiliani, Shilpa has never looked better. The world actually stopped to take a look at her as she walked down the red carpet looking dazzling in a Saree during Big Brother in UK. We loved her red and green saree with ethnic Kundan and Emerald jewellery. I love Shilpa for her originality and the fact that she has been a trend setter all along. She has styled her sarees with halter and off-shoulder blouses for red carpet events.  She has graced the ramp as shop stopper for Tarun Tahiliani’s collection for the consecutive 3 years.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

I still remember Aishwarya as an upcoming model in advertisement of ‘Garden’ Sarees. No one before her and after her could do justice to the Saree brand. Since then she has graced numerous fashion shows and magazine covers.  I simply love her colour selection in pastels and pinks. From Traditional South Indian Kanjeevarams to Crepes to Chiffons to Silks give her any type Saree to wear and she carries it off with utter ease. Women just drooled over her two toned and heavily embroidered Sarees which she wore in ‘Devdas’. Aishwarys gives credit to her designer Neeta Lulla for giving her that look as she portrayed the role of ‘Paro’. In recent times, Aishwarya has worn Sabyasachi and Abu Jani- Sandeep Kholsa sarees to red carpet events.

Kajol

Her smile simply lights up any room that she enters but when she combines it with a beautiful saree the end result is ‘AWESOME’.  Manish Malhotra transformed her into a Style diva when he designed for her in ‘Kuch Kuch hota hai’ . We have seen her in designer Salwar Kameez but I feel she looks stunning in a Saree. The best part about her choice is that she has never worn anything which is has too much of detail work.  She keeps the Jewellery to the minimum emphasizing on earrings only. People love the fact that she is always herself in any silhouette and does not have to pretend that she is a celebrity. No wonder how style comes easily to Kajol.

Sridevi

Sridevi has been an example for all Designers in India for the way she carries herself in a Saree. She oozes grace and elegance for which I call her ‘Timeless Beauty’.  As a child I remember seeing her in sizzling blue saree in Mr. India or in pastel colour sarees in ‘Chandni’. Even when she is not in her on-screen glamorous avatar I love her simple look in a Kanjeevaram Saree.  These days Sridevi has started experimenting with western wear  but i still feel she should wear more of Indian Outfits as it suits her tall frame. Designers like Queenie Dhodhy, Manish Malhotra and Neeta Lulla design their creations for her and she has graced many fashion week shows as a Show stopper.

Sonia Gandhi

Sonia Gandhi wears a crisp Khadi and silk sarees with such a refinement I have ever seen. She might be of Italian origin but Indian women can learn a thing or two about how to carry a saree in whatever situation you might be in. I love how she combines her saree with a winter coat and uses her saree pallu as a scarf around the collar making it quite a style statement. Even as she is maintaining her style she never loses her dignity and focus that she belongs to the most affluent ‘Gandhi’ family. While other celebrities go in for glamorous looks in saree Sonia has always opted for simple clean look making a unique style statement. Sonia Gandhi has made a mark for herself in the Indian Politics and was third in the Forbes ‘Most powerful woman in the world’  list.

Hema Malini

This ‘Dream Girl’ has been on the Bollywood scene for more than 40 years but she seems to grow more elegant with the passing years. She might be above 60 years but she can give today’s young actress a run for their money with her style. She was the reigning queen of Bollywood in the 60s and 70s. She made a comeback in bollywood again after a long break of more than 10 years.People loved her look created by Neeta Lulla in recent movies like ‘Baghban’ and ‘Baabul’. She played her age in the movie and has redefined the image of a ‘screen mother’ in Bollywood cinema. A trained Odissi dancer Hema Malini still performs on stage along with her two daughters. The fact I love about her is that she dresses up according to her age and never once worn anything revealing or shabby.  Give her a Saree made out of any fabric and she carries it magnificently. She is the ‘Original Diva’ which the Indian audience love, still remember and cannot get enough of.  I have seen her personally several times and asked for her autograph and was always awestruck by her beauty. If I were to ever age, I would love to be as dignified and graceful as Hema Malini.

Kirron Kher

Kirron Kher who is a very versatile actress is well-known in the Indian Social circle for her Saree Collection. She has said in one of her interviews “I love to wear only woven handloom silk and cotton sarees. While I buy my tusshars from the Weaver’s Studio in Kolkata and tangails from Kanishka, I buy silks and Kanjeevarams from L’Affaire in Delhi, India as the collections are larger, more beautiful and embroidered. In Chennai, I pick up my Kanjeevarams from Usha Ranganathan and from Sundari Silks owned by Rajaram who has good taste.” No wonder she gets that amazing look by going out-of-the-way to find the perfect Saree. I like the way Kirron is at ease when she is wearing a Saree and the Potli/Batua bags she wears matching with her Saree. She says that she has inherited her taste in Sarees and jewellery from her mother Late Diljit Thakar Singh. Well I must give the credit to her mother, for even at this age Kirron Kher rules the Saree collection among Indian Celebrities.

Rekha

Whenever I think of the beautiful ‘Kanjeevaram’, Rekha is the only celebrity that comes to my mind. This silk silhouette is carried with utmost grace by Rekha since I am seeing her on the red carpet. She adorns herself with classic, traditional jewellery along with beautiful clutch bags on a Kanjeevaram saree. It would be a fashionista’s dream come true if they ever get to go inside her wardrobe and check out her amazing saree collection………….that is one think I would give my tooth and nail for. One of our readers reminded us that Rekha should be included in this list and IFP couldn’t agree anymore.
