Van Heusen Men’s Week 2010 – Day 3

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on August 30, 2010

Day 3 which was also the last day of the gala fashion event had a bit of glamour to it. Many designer whose detailed review I will be covering as soon as I get my hands of the pics of their complete collection.

Rohit Bal

Gudda seems to get better with age………well it’s not just him as a per son that I am talking about……….it is good to see him in full energy on ramp and off it. This time around with his collection aptly titled as ‘Shararat’ there was a lot of fun and naughtiness not just in the clothes but on the ramp as well. And with John Abraham as the show-stopper, need we ask for more. There were rich fabrics like velvet, brocade, net, silks with heavy detail thread work used to design this creative line………….the clothes had a regal feel to them. The Jackets were superby cut and crafted especially the velvet ones with zardosi work. John Abraham walked in wearing a velvet jacket with jodhpuri pants and a net shirt within…….of course the jacket had to go for the good things to come in focus. The show was styled well with the handsome hunks sporting Red Rajasthani turbans……………..end of the day as an Indian I simply love richness of our culture and admire it when it gets reflected beautifully in a designer’s work. Guddaji……….tussi too good ho!!!

Wendell Rodricks

Wendell Rodricks is one of India’s most experienced designers unfortunately there is nothing new which I can see in his collection. It should have been titled more as ‘Been there, done that’……………..there clothes are the same, the designs are the same, the cuts are still the same. I miss the Wendell Rodrick touch when he used to create new things and make the models wear the bold clothes on the ramp. Has that fizz just evaporated???? Wendell please go back to your old style which worked better………………hate the sober boring stuff here.

Van Heusen Men’s Week 2010 – Day 2

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on August 29, 2010

With a fresh and creative start to the biggest fashion event for Men, Day 2 brought in new ideas in designing. After a delayed but good start on the first day, the saga continues………….

ANKY

The all white collection presented by Ankita & Anjana Bhargav was soothing…………….no doubt about it. But I wonder why the colour white is given so much of emphasis all the time…………..why is it that designers don’t make their creations in colours other than black and white………………how about men’s wear all done up in shades of red, purple, green………think about it. Should we not look around at bold colours instead of going for safer colours when it comes to designing. Honestly there was nothing new in this collection which I haven’t seen till now. Shorts, kurtas, pajama pants, trousers, shirts all done in white with a hint of beige in some outfits…………….but nothing new. There earlier collection for women which they presented in Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week 2010 was very creative. Unfortunately I could not see the power element in this collection which I feel would have been a turn around for their menswear collection.

 Vijay Arora

Vijay Arora dedicated his collection to the armed forces of our country……………………very noble thought but the clothes lacked creativity. Common man might not be able to wear many pieces from it like the uniform styles. The kurtas, pathani suits, the achkan combined with trousers, camouflaged pants, shirts in earthy tones were part of this collection………pieces could be worn separately. But the creations could have been as amazing as Ritu Beri’s collection which she showcased in Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week 2010 where she had also designed the collection around the theme of armed forces but blended the theme well with just few elements used……….like a navy jacket combined with a flare skirt or a camouflaged jacket with a bold colour gown. What lacked in this collection were bold colours but in smaller quantities…….and pop of colour here and there would have worked wonders. Better luck next time……..

 Karan Johar & Varun Bahl

Karan Johar & VarunBahl designed a very, very trendy and wearable collection…………though I felt some pieces were very last season but overall I am happy that they used bright colours in their creations. There was everything in it……….formal wear, casual wear, resort wear, beach wear………..everything except Indian wear. Nonetheless the collection was complete package, plus point being pop of colours used in few garments & wearability. The colour black was given new dimensions with cut of the fabric. Overall I am pretty satisfied with the new collection, would look forward to something new from the duo next time around.

Manoviraj Khosla

Manoviraj Khosla had not one but three celebrities walking the runway for him………..Actor Kunal Kapoor, Cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar and Nikhil Chopra. But the collection was what took all the credit since the contemporary clothes were done up amazingly. The motif patterns on the outfits were smart without making the ensemble look over the top. Manoviraj used his creativity quite well to make this collection very wearable yet ‘In Vogue’. Colour palette was kept in dark hues and off whites with a hint of reds, blues, grey. Bandhgala, Achkan, blazers, coat, jackets were the highlight of the collection. Overall I was happy to see this ‘Gentlemen only’ collection in the fashion world which is going more towards ‘metrosexual look’.

Van Heusen Men’s Week 2010 – Day 1

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on August 28, 2010

The stage is set, the whose who of the fashion world take their respective seats in the audience, the music starts, the spotlight gets fixed and in walks the model…………………only this time it is a male model who starts the show. Welcome to Van Heusen’s second edition of fashion week exclusively for ‘MEN’. And I am in a blissful state of mind now that fashion world is taking a look at men’s attire with seriousness. Let’s take a look at the designers who showcased their designs on the very first day.

P.S. : Will update the photos of other designers ASAP.

Shantanu & Nikhil

The duo Shantanu & Nikhil are back with their new collection ‘Death of a Tree’ which had dark hues like grey, ash, black, maroon, blue with hints of bright colours………………..very suitable for Fall/Winter. The jackets were very impressive so were the scarfs and the full sleeve shirts/T-shirts. But what looked out-of-place were the bandhgalas, the long flowy kurta and the skin fitted hosiery pants. Now I am sure we don’t wanna see our men wear those and give us competition in any way. Their appeal against deforestation is a good effort by all means but I still believe their earlier collection displayed in Lakme India Fashion Week – Resort 2010 was way better. Maybe that’s just me………………….fashionistas can judge it themselves.

Troy Costa

The debutante Troy Costa presented his collection ‘KU DE TA’ which is the name of a famous party place in Seminyak, Bali which is definitely the most inspiring place on this earth. This resort wear collection was very ‘in vogue’ and must say tha Troy was able to make an impression at least on my mind. The collection is neat, original and the jackets are a ‘must have’ next time you wanna party in Goa, Maldives or place which inspired this collection ‘Bali’. Most importantly the collection showed off the ‘Male’ element in the cut and designs of the ensemble………………….the colours were mostly black, white, chocolate browns and blues. Thumbs up to Troy for this collection……………I do look forward to see this talented designer’s creations in future red carpet events and fashion weeks.

Samant Chauhan

Samant Chauhan’s collection ideally seemed like ‘Hannibal lector becomes a hippy’……………………why is that???? The male models walked down the runway looking ready for a kill………………a lot props were used to give an eerie feeling. Funnily the props worked well since they took the centre stage rather than the clothes………….pity!! The collection consisted of jackets, blazers, shirts, achkans, shorts, pants, skinfits, sweaters…………..but the beauty was what I was searching for in the clothes. Apologies to Mr. Chauhan but his collection was not upto the mark of being fashionable. When the props get more attention than the clothes, that is exactly where things go wrong in the show…………..

Ashish Soni

The entire venue was buzzing with the rumour that Ashish Soni’s good friend Robert Vadera was the inspiration behind the collection……………..but who so ever was the inspiration, the end result was classic. I must say that Ashish Soni has won half the battle with the styling and presentation of his collection. The collection does take you back in time…………………I believe the 1960s where the big, bold checks were the fashion expression for men, so were the bow ties, fitted pants, the vest……………so very 60s. The collection had very earthy tones, beautiful finishes were given to every garment. It included pants, hats, blazers, coat, bandhgala, shirts and shorts.  My verdict : By far this was my favourite collection for Day 1 in VHIMW 2010.

India International Jewellery Week 2010 – Finale

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on August 20, 2010

Unfortunately the ‘Finale’ was pretty much a downer with the jhataak dresses taking the grace away from the beautiful jewels…………..I do pity the show-stoppers who had to wear the hideous outfits…………….my sympathies with you all.

Sonakshi Sinha whose release of first movie ‘Dabangg’ is just around the corner, was the showstopper dressed in Archana Kocchar. Love the jewels…………….but the outfit was ‘bad’, reminded of the 1980s where our actresses were dressed like a shiny disco ball…………..since the necklace is pretty loaded with diamonds and rubies, it would have been better if the designer would have dressed Sonakshi in something less extravagant. But will still look forward to seeing her in ‘Dabangg’ since I am convinced that this lady will be a ‘talent powerhouse’.

*******

Mugdha Godse graced the ramp in a shiny satin golden beige colour gown with loads and loads of detail work done in crystals and sequins. Her outfit was still bearable since it blended well with her jewellery, the jewellery was by P.C.Jewellers……….but honestly I would take Mugdha away from strikingly shiny colours and give more emphasis to her face with sober colours without much detail works on the outfit.

***********

The bubbly Ayesha Takia also walked the ramp though looking at the Archana Kocchar outfit, I feel it is better I don’t comment at all……………………..If the entire emphasis is taken by the outfit, what is left for the jewellery………………….how so ever they might be gorgeous………….I cannot find them in this attire.

India International Jewellery Week 2010 – Day 3

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on August 19, 2010

Oh My god!!! Just when I thought the glamour factor was over at the IIJW 2010…………..In walks the most talented lot of Bollywood. I am happy that these ladies even though were wearing the most exquisite jewellery still had their charm intact…………….Ladies I am talking about are Sharmila Tagore and Konkona Sen Sharma. Nonetheless there were many other also walking down the ramp…………….take a look at them too.

Sonal Chauhan was the show-stopper for Choksi Vachhraj Makanji & Co. dressed in all black ensemble with gold jewellery…………….The shimmery body suit topped with a black skirt was sheer disaster, the hairstyle was over the board, the broad black leather waist belt added more fuel to the horrendous fashion fire…………………that’s alot to take the focus off the beautiful jewellery. Honestly I would have preferred Sonal wearing a lehenga with all that jewellery……….a beautiful lady like her should look classy and this is a sure example of trashy.

Sharmila Tagore looked awesome wearing a black shimmery saree and diamond in white gold jewellery from Sawansukha Jewellers…………..the saree despite being blingy was perfect background for the jewellery………I cannot and would not even dare to find any mistake in her attire be it the hair, the outfit or the make-up……………Sharmila is perfection personified…………….Elegant as ever.

**********

Konkona Sen Sharma is the celebrity whom I always wanted to see on the runway wearing the beautiful Indian creations………my wish came true but only in context to the jewellery. I always used to wonder why aren’t the designers inviting Konkona to be the show-stopper for their creations…………. with that charming face walking the ramp for top-notch designers like Muzzafer Ali, JJ Valaya or Sabyasachi Mukherjee, any outfit will look worth a million dollars. Coming back to IIJW 2010, Konkona sashyed the ramp for ‘Amrapali’ wearing a kundan Rani Haar, earrings with a ruby plus kundan choker……………I wish she would have given a miss to the choker and gone for a similar kundan choker matching the Rani Haar……………still Konkona was able to carry it off effortlessly.

The pieces were set on a perfect backdrop of a beige & golden saree………the jewellery is exquisite indeed with the Rani Haar & the matha tikka giving a sense of old-time charm. Kudos to Amrapali for alluring jewellery and keeping it classic for today’s women.

The Amrapali Choker in rubies and kundan which Konkona adorns is shown above. You can check the rest of Amrapali collection in our Contemporary Jewels post.

Sagarika Ghatge also made her presence felt on the runway when she wore the jewellery created by Manubhai Zaveri Jewellers. Sagarika wore a black lace saree with a net blouse with heavy indian jewellery…………….the jewllery did get the desired emphasis in this outfit but the saree could have been replaced by a bright colour lehenga with minimal  matt golden embroidery work so that the audience’s focus remains on the jewels. The Rani Haar is covering the matching necklace which I would have loved to see……………….facae up Sagarika looks very pretty………………..the outfit part is what needed some attention. The jewels as seen on other models and Sagarika are striking and very in ‘vogue’. The gold is kept basically in matt with a lot of work with precious stones. Love the cuff plus bangle combination which Sagarika is wearing.

********

Sandip Soparkkar and wife Jesse Randhawa were the show-stoppers for Rhea Nasta’s jewellery collection which was further divided into 3 categories – Villandi, Cocktail & Sparkler. Sandip Soparkkar had choreographed an on stage ‘drama’ with Jesse which had a very ‘Cinderella’ theme attached to it……….the shoe was of course the centre of the drama……………studded with 1,200 diamonds in white gold, the rare piece was the priced creation of designer Rhea Nasta.

India International Jewellery Week 2010 – Day 2

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on August 17, 2010

After the Dazzling Day 1 of IIJW 2010, Day 2 also had a bevy of Bollywood crowd walking done the runway…………..the best part of the second day was that there was more emphasis on the jewellery rather than the show-stopper.

Isha Kopikkar sashyed down the ramp in a fuchsia pink gown along with a dazzling diamond neckpiece with a matching cuffs and earring………………….though I am not a fan of the outfit since the asymmetrical layers were not giving the desired effect, nonetheless the Isha looked pretty wearing the beautiful jewellery. The bright side was that the jewellery got proper attention in this attire which is what any jewellery designer would want. The same is achieved here. The jewellery worn here by Isha is designed by Dwarkadas Chandumal Jewellers at Zaveri Bazaar…………..they have a huge variety of jewellery in their store……………luckily my engagement ring which is very special to me is also from Dwarkadas.

********

It was lovely to see Ayesha Dharkar on the ramp in India for ‘Solitaire’ jewellery group looking ‘Divine’ in a simple off-white floral creation wearing a kundan, ruby, pearls, diamonds and gold set. The jewellery from ‘Solitaire’ is alluring……………and Ayesha’s smile makes it look even more fascinating.

India International Jewellery Week 2010 – Day 1

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on August 16, 2010

The Indian International Jewellery show started off in Mumbai on the 15th August, 2010……………….of course our celebrities had to be there to make the occasion much more happening with their presence.

Deepika Padukone walked the ramp wearing an outfit designed by Ana Singh and jewellery by Farah Khan Ali…………..in one word Deepika simply looked ‘Splendid’………Deepika’s multi strand necklace had rubies and pearls with a similar neck piece made with diamonds, rubies and kundan………..love the ‘Indian’ look on her which she carries off gracefully.

*********

Katrina Kaif also walked down the ramp for the brand ‘Nakshatra’ which she represents as a brand ambassador adorning diamond jewellery and wearing Neetu Lulla creation…………….though I must admit I am not a fan of her lehenga but nonetheless Katrina looks flawless neck up.

******

Mother – Daughter duo Lilette & Ira Dubey walked the ramp for Mirari & Sons adorning their creation. Both were dressed in black……….must say that Lilette Dubey can give other actresses a run for their money with her killer looks. Both of them looked ‘Awesome’.

Queenie Dhody also displayed her creations for Giantti in which Dino Morea wearing a manellery [jewellery for men] and pendant in white gold & diamonds. That is a first time that an actor walks down the ramp for jewellery………….I love new things in fashion……………love Queenie’s diamond cuffs.

Will keep you updated with more pics.

Bridal Beauty Kit ‘Must Haves’

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on August 15, 2010

Since the wedding season will soon be approaching I thought why not write something to help the Brides-to-be in the make-up section. Do get yourself a kit or a Beauty bag which is available at all leading departmental stores. A vanity box is for professionals so avoid carrying a big box in your wedding trousseau unless you wanna do make-up for everybody else who comes to your wedding. Hope you don’t want to give an impression of the same once you enter the new household. Few essentials your beauty kit should be consisting of as given below. Of course it also depends what suits your face, skin & colour.

Foundation

This forms the base of your make up. It sets a canvas for more colours to be added & give a neater, cleaner base. Choose the shade nearest to your skin tone. This is available in liquid & cream based. Test your foundation on clean skin – preferably on the jaw line – not on your hand. Always use a sponge to blend the foundation well. You can also use a concealer to hide the dark circles or scars on the face.
If it blends into your skin and disappears when you apply it, then it should be a match. Test your foundation on clean skin – preferably on the jaw line – not on your hand.
Once you have worked in the foundation round all the nooks and crannies, check that the foundation is well blended and not streaky. It’s better to build up layers than cake it on plus too much of foundation will show the lines and wrinkles on your face more prominently than hiding the same. You might end up looking much more older than you actually are.  Avoid going in for a shade than your actual skin tone and vice versa. Search andsearch hard for the tone nearest to your skintone…………………it pays off to have a foundation well blend into your skin.

Recommendation : L’oreal True Match, MAC cosmetic Select SPF 15 foundation

My Favourite : Revlon’s New Complexion Oil Free Foundation blends amazingly without any streaking.

Eyeliner

Basic black is a must have, since it goes on with every outfit & every style be it Indian or Western wear. You can add in liners other colours like brown which is very subtle during daytime, blue looks great at night giving a dramatic look to your eyes or the riskier colour green which you should be buying only if you have an outfit matching it and loads of confidence to carry this colour around. But today’s market place is flooded with colour eyeliner. You have the choice of picking pencil or liquid eyeliners. But a word of caution:- buy the liner which would suit your skin eye & the colour of your eyes.  Saumya reminded me that an Indian woman’s make-up is totally incomplete without a kohl pencil or in our language better known as ‘kajal’. That is a must, must, must have coz even if you are just wearing kajal and a bit of lip gloss your look is actually complete for any time of the day. Thank you Saumya for reminding me about it…………..

Recommendation : Maybelline Liquid Eye Liner, MAC cosmetic Liquid Eye liner

Favourite : Lakme Eyeliners in liquid for the amazing jewel colours which look beautiful on the bride also Lakme kajal for those sultry eyes.

Face Powder or the ‘Compact’

The basic purpose of using a compact is to take of the shiny appearance and give the face a matt look. There are two types of face powder which you can use as per what suits your skin the best. The Oily skin tend to go in for oil free translucent powder than the compact.

Compact Powder

Compact or pressed powders are great on the go. Easy to use and helpful with other make-up also since it has a mirror in it………………..no need to carry additional pocket size mirror al the time. Your face is does not appear oily for a long time…………but beware of using it too much. You might end up looking like a ghost ready to scare people off.
For a quick touch up, just block away shine with the puff by gently pressing the powder to get a matte finish. Excess can be brushed off or reduced with the help of a tissue.

Transluscent Powder

If you prefer a sheer look put a little translucent powder on your brush, shake off any excess (careful not to get it all over your clothes!) then gently sweep over your face, making sure you work round all the nooks and crannies.
Powder puffs are also good for getting an even coverage but a professional brush works better with the powder. Just press and roll a little powder, and dust off any excess with a brush.

Recommendation : Clinique Loose powder, L’oreal loose powder

My Pick : Revlon Compact powder for even coverage

Mascara

This is a magic wand that if used correctly can make your eyes look like a million dollars. If asked for a make up must have tool this would top my list. The basic black mascara is more than enough for every girl. You can experiment with colours available like brown, blue, green & purple. But make sure it suits you well & does not scare any person of. For people having heavy lashes you can use a transparent mascara just to enhance your best feature without making it look weighty. Once you have worked in the foundation round all the nooks and crannies, check that the foundation is well blended and not streaky. It’s better to build up layers than cake it on.

Recommendation : Maybelline Great Lash Mascara, L’oreal Volumnious Mascara

My Favourite : Revlon Water proof Mascara………I swear by it after using for years, Have never experienced clumps while applying it or after.

Lipstick

This no doubt is something any woman cannot or in other words should not do without. Lipsticks are very important from the point of view for making up or spoiling a look. For a bride to be 3 shades are important to have –pink, brown & red. These are the base shades with which you have to see whether you like these shades in matt finish, glossy look or with shimmer in it. Fair skins can go in for lighter shades like glossy baby pinks or nude browns for day wear & shimmer copper/gold or reds for evening wear. Darker skins can go in for brown shades with a transparent gloss for day wear. Do remember to add a matching Lip liner as well. Instead of buying a Lip liner in every other colour matching your lipstick, buy one in natural shade that goes with every lipstick that you wear.

Recommendation : All Lipstick range of Revlon, L’oreal and The Body Shop. Love the long stay lipsticks from L’oreal.

My favourite : MAC Cosmetic Lipglass for that ‘oh-so-glossy’ effect and stays long.

Eye shadow

These add colour and enhance the shape of your eyes. Daytime makeup should be subtle & light where as you can wear darker shades or shimmer eye shadow for evening celebrations. Apply the eye shadow starting from the inner corner of your eye, sweep your brush (or finger if you’re using cream) across the whole lid. The colour should go over the entire lid and just above the crease. If you want to apply more than one colour you usually do the base colour first. Starting from the inner corner of your eye, sweep your brush (or finger if you’re using cream) across the whole lid. The colour should go over the entire lid and just above the crease.Blend away any hard edges to perfect your look

Recommendation : MAC cosmetic Eye-shadow for the professional effect, L’oreal Infinite Colour Quads and Bourjois Eye shadow pots.

My Favourite : Revlon Colour stay for it’s long lasting effect.

Blush

This wonderful makeup must have can change your look. Excessive of blusher looks artificial & too less of it will not reflect to enhance your cheekbones when you are photographed.  Again daytime you should prefer lighter shade & a bit darker shade during evening. Commonly 2 types of blush are used  – Powder Blush: This blush is in powder form, .colours range from pink, brown, plums & golden/shimmer. To apply the powder blush dust the blush over the apples of your cheeks for a perfect peachy complexion. Finish off with a clean brush to blend in the edges so you don’t look stripey and Cream Blush: Creams or gels should be added after your base but before powder, and they are best applied with your fingers.
Smooth on a little blush to find the right place, smile and apply it over the area where your cheeks puff out.

Recommendation : Clinique Blush and Maybelline mousse blush.

I Adore : Christian Dior Blush spreads easily and looks amazing.

Moisturizer

Even if you are not much into make-up, that is not of much concern. But if you do not use a moisturizer, that is something you should look in for. A well moisturized skin is a healthy skin. Include an everyday use moisturizer that suits your skin type which you can use after bath. For an oily skin choose an oil-free moisturizer. You can look for moisturizer combined with SPF 15. There are a variety of moisturizers available in the market to suit your skin requirements. These days one can buy tinted moisturizers which are a mix of foundation and moisturizer so that you get even coverage without the heaviness of a foundation. Also check that your moisturizer is at least SPF 15 [Sun protection factor] so that even if you are not wearing additional sunscreen your skin is protected to some extent from the harsh sunrays.

Recommendation : Olay Total Effects and The Body Shop Vitamin C Moisturizer with SPF 30.

My Favourite : Neutrogena Hydro Boost & Neutrogena Day cream with SPF 15 keeps the skin glowing and healthy.

Sunscreen

Minimum requirement is SPF 20 when you spend more of your time out in the sun. Your Vanity case calls for this product for daytime outings. Sunscreen is used widely today, hence making it easier for you to choose for a range of different brands available. This is to be applied 15 to 20 minutes before you step out in the Sun for it to act effectively.

Recommendation : Biotique Aloe sunscreen, Kaya Skin Clinic Sunscreen and Lakme Sunscreen.

My favourite : Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Sunscreen SPF 30 light and non-sticky.

Nail Paint

How can we forget this essential beauty must have. For a bride minimum 3 colours – one in darker colour for party wear, one in lighter colour and third one should be transparent which u can wear as top coat also. Reds, burgundy, pinks, mauves, peach, are all bridal colours from which you can choose. Combine these colours with golden and silver which add the required shimmer. Avoid dark blues and blacks unless you wanna look like a vamp for a new bride. Remember, first impression counts a lot here even if you hate being judged. A nail paint remover should also be carried along.

Face wash & a face cleanser

Till now we have put in the things to make a bride look her best, but a face wash will assure that her skin is taken care of. Check your skin type before you buy the face wash. Oily skins should opt for an oil free cleanser and dry skins should choose a cream cleanser to avoid skin stiffness after wash. These days you will find a face wash under the name of every big skin care brand. But stick to the one which suits you.

Recommendation : L’oreal Revitalift facewash & Olay Total Effects facewash

I can’t do without : The Body Shop Chamomile Waterproof Eye make-up remover and Neutrogena Deep clean facewash

Perfume

This is one product which can make or break your look. Avoid cheap brands under this if you want to smell fabulous. Departmental stores are filled with these products. Price range of a good branded perfume will start from Rs. 750/- to Rs 3000/- to as high as money can buy. In case you find it difficult to buy an expensive perfume, try essential oils like lavender, rose or jasmine; else buy a good body deo spray to leave you smelling like heaven. There are a hell lot of products in today’s Indian market, one can never be short of it. For daytime try a scent which is refreshing and light……….you don’t want to suffocate people in case your perfume is on the heavier side which is preferable in small amount during night time. Apply the perfume on your pulse points and behind your earlobes for long lasting effect……………Do not apply perfume or better known as Eau-de-toilette on your underarms……………..a deo stick is better for such nooks.

Recommendation : Calvin Klein ‘In 2 U’ for Women

My Favourite : L’Occitane Cherry Blossom Solid Perfume………………love the light fragrance which is easy to carry and can be used any time.

These product recommendation is purely based on my opinion. I have used each one of them and have listed the good ones in this post. The result of the same might vary as per person’s skin.

Sonam & cast members promoting ‘Aisha’ in Ahmedabad

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on August 8, 2010

The ‘Aisha’ Team was dressed up to the nines when they went to Ahmedabad for promoting their movie at International Film Festival. The Team was caught having a good time at the Kensville Golf club in Ahmedabad. Sonam Kapoor was dressed in Manish Arora dress and had a beautiful ‘Christian Dior’ bag………………love the colour.

Amrita Puri too looks adorable in fuschia pink halter dress. Lisa Haydon went for a simpler look by combining a black jacket with a purple plus pink hue skirt and a basic white top. Ira Dubey wore a black fringe top with a colourful skirt both designed by Manish Arora.  This look is what gets thumbs up from me for the ‘Aisha’ girl…………………..they look fabulous.

Aisha Screening Event

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on August 6, 2010

‘Aisha’ has finally released after creating a hype in major cities in India………………..girls really wanted to get a look at the on-screen wardrobe of Aisha aka Sonam Kapoor. But the screening was a casual affair, I was slightly disappointed since the actors turned it into a way too casual one………………The screening was held at PVR cinema but there was absolutely no excitement…………the actors looked tired as if they have had a long day. I agree these people have spent time and energy promoting the movie but turning up sloppily at the screening was not appreciated. Remember first impressions last longer than you might think……………..Abhay Deol is busy shooting out of the country though missed him on this particular event.

P.S : The Aisha team is planning to walk down the red carpet today. Will keep you updated if they do.

Sonam Kapoor

The leading lady of the movie was seen wearing a beige colour corset underneath black basic blazer with ankle length pants and animal print ballet slip ons. Her look for the evening reminds me of the 1980s with her hair all tied up in a messy do and a big bag along. On the whole I had expected Sonam to be dressed in one of the party dresses or at least a glamorous tops with a bit of shimmer. Not liking this look a bit since Sonam is the face of young generation so instead of being laid-back she should take some effort to dress up like a super-star. I do like her ‘don’t care a damn’ attitude but here it is not working darling………………..for once this is your film screening…………make an effort…..please. The neck piece and the cuff both were pretty though but the entire look marred such beautiful accessories.

Ira Dubey

Ira Dubey’s casual yet funky avatar is likeable for sure……………….she looks trendy and ready to enjoy the evening with the ‘Aisha’ team. I only wish that Ira would have gone without the neck piece since the belt is enough to grab attention to the attire. Liking it though yet to find a lovable look.

Amrita Puri

Amrita Puri looked sweet but this is the screening of her first movie………….so she should have glamed the entire outfit a bit plus a belt in white was badly needed in this outfit. I like her jacket which had beautiful cut work pattern though the denims could be changed for something more classy and a belt was required since there is no piece of jewellery, shoes or any accessory to grab attention. On the whole very, very simple…………….sweetheart glam it up a bit, you will look adorable.

Anil Kapoor

Papa Anil Kapoor came in a casual avatar too but I wish that he would have worn a dark blue denims with darker pair of shoes. The shirt with a cardigan works for me………….I am diggin the french beard. He continues to look handsome despite having grown-up kids…………Anil does make an effort to dress up for big occassions………..for this one the clothes were casual enough yet he did not want to take the spotlight away from his daughters. I am not loving this one much but…………Mr.Kapoor rocks as always!!!

Soniya Mehra

Soniya Mehra looks like a doll and I like her dressing style……………….young and fresh. The outfit was cute and fit for a casual evening out with friends. What did not work here was the big brown bag………..the off-shoulder grey top combined with a skirt in lighter tones were glamorized with a blue bib necklace. That is stylish and works for me well since there is one piece of accessory which screams for attention and the rest has been toned down. Soniya you look pretty in this attire……………please the bag behind and go in for a bit smaller one next time around.

Arunoday Singh

Arunoday Singh who is also making his debut in ‘Aisha’ came dressed in beige and blue……………….casual yet smart. This attire was ok for casual evening out………..plus Arunoday had to keep the young element in his style. A kurta shirt combined with a blazer and blue denims is a relaxed yet not too casual. Thumbs up for Arunoday Singh for making this outfit work and yet keeping it simple.

Cyrus Sahukar

Hey buddy……………let’s grab a cup of coffee……………Cyrus seems to be dressed for a casual Friday at work. A sky blue shirt and denims……………..this look is way too plain for the screening. I wish Cyrus would have worn a funky colourful shirt or Tees with denim since that would have suited his personality well…………….identical colour on plain jeans don’t work.

Malini Ramani – Wildchild of Fashion

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on August 1, 2010

Making a woman walk tall and confident is something that comes easily for Designer Malini Ramani to create. She brings New York to the streets of Mumbai and coincidently was born there. Her designs are fresh and unique with a twist of wildness in them. I love the fact that she uses abundance of colours in all her creations and they are never boring. She started out as a designer in the year 2000 when she presented her first collection in Lakme Fashion Week which was a huge hit with fashionistas. Since then there has been no looking back for this fashionable lady.

Although throughout her life she has been in more in news for controversies than for her designs I feel she is one of the immensely talented young designer who will definitely go a long, long way in this industry. The Jessica Lal murder case to the very recent arrest with regards to her factory worker have never stopped this lady from working much more harder at her work.  Her designs are wild, bold, feminine yet very powerful. She is also one of the few designers who has a line of beach-wear that consists of bikinis, sarong and swimsuits. This year’s collection presented in Lakme Fashion Week Resort 2010 were simply outstanding.

She has Koel Puri as her muse and has herself featured in Verve magazine’s ‘Best Dressed List’ in the year 2009. Her mother the well-known socialite and a designer herself Bina Ramani has been the greatest influence on her life. She had also taken part in Jakarta Fashion Week 2009 and has her collection selling in major cities around the world. All I can say that this belle from Delhi is a one woman power house. Check out her official website www.maliniramani.com if you wish to know more about her collection.
