66th Cannes Film Festival – Closing Ceremony

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on May 27, 2013

Cannes13-Vidya16 Cannes13-Vidya17

Vidya Balan attended the ‘Zulu’ premiere at the closing ceremony of Cannes in Sabyasachi of course. But the skirt of this anarkali was the disappointment as it looked very wrinkled & lacked the flowy grace. Coupled with the loose hairdo which I am certainly not a fan of……………this look could have been way more better. ūüė¶

Aishwarya attended the Life AIDS Charity ball in a sparkling ‘Roberto Cavalli’ gown…………….after disappointing hairstyles, the loose curl locks looked pretty good on her…………plus the gown itself did not need any accessorizing as it had plenty of shimmer. Wish she would have posed on the red carpet in this very look…………Sigh!

66th Cannes Film Festival – Day 9

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on May 24, 2013

Aishwarya Rai attended the amFar’s 20th Cinema against Aids Gala at Cannes in a golden Tarun Tahiliani saree. This outfit was a nice change from the earlier choice of outfits & I love the elegance the outfit exuded. The clutch & the jewels complemented the outfit well but not liking the hairdo at all…….a french updo might have worked really well with this look………….the high updo is again very beauty pagent like.

Fashionistas have pleaded Mallika to cover up on the red carpet…………….this year she exactly did that……….maybe a wee bit too much. In a grey ‘Dolce & Gabbana’ lace dress, Mallika did look beautiful but the volume of this outfit failed to make any long lasting impression. Nonetheless I do like her in a much more classy avatar.

66th Cannes Film Festival – Day 2

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on May 17, 2013

After an adventurous Day 1, Indian celebrities brought in Day 2 with a lot of style. But it was Freida Pinto who took the cake on Day 2 with her vintage inspired look. Freida looked absolutely like a Hollywood starlet in this grey gown by ‘Sanchita’ topped with 1920s inspired hairstyle. One of her best looks so far at Cannes for sure.

Sonam Kapoor again surprised people in this voluminous ball gown by Dolce & Gabbana. Love the colour of the outfit plus the fact that Sonam kept the styling simple & let the print do all the talking. Though I am yet to see a look that makes me go ‘WOW’ but this is pleasantly different than her earlier red carpet looks.

The day is never gonna be complete without Vidya Balan’s red carpet appearance………..Ms. Balan who again opted for Sabysachi added alot of jewels by designer ‘Pankaj Surana’. Not a big fan of nathani on Vidya since it seems to be an extra add-on which was unnecessary. The look might have worked better without the nathani as the necklace looked alluring on this silhouette. As for the outfit… complains at all. No one could have made Vidya look so elegant as Sabysachi did.

66th Cannes Film Festival – Day 1

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on May 16, 2013

66th Cannes Film Festival went on floors with the star studded¬†premi√®re¬†of ‘The Great Gatsby’ where Mr. Amitabh Bachchan walked the red carpet with the cast of the movie.

But I was sorely disappointed to see him in a sequin studded dinner jacket…………truly wish he would have opted for a simpler silhouette than opt for too much of shine.

The photocall session of ‘The Great Gatsby’

Vidya Balan was seen in a Sabyasachi Lehenga on the red carpet of the opening ceremony. The draping of the dupatta definitely spoilt the entire look………..wish the draping was done more neatly……..even better if Vidya would have worn the dupatta on the side & not covering her head. As for the jewels & the outfit I have no complains at all.

The Jury members walk the red carpet at the opening ceremony.

I loved the saree look of Vidya at the photocall of the Jury at Cannes. The look was by Sabyasachi & jewels by Amrapali but love the sophistication it had. Wish Vidya would have worn this look to the red carpet………….sigh.

Freida Pinto walked the red carpet in a sorbet pink colour Gucci gown………… for her petite frame I found the gown a bit too overwhelming plus the hairdo did not do any good to her look. Freida would have rocked the red carpet if she would have left her hair open and shortened the length of the gown a wee bit.

Sonam Kapoor wore ‘Anamika Khanna’ & a nathani by ‘Sunita Kapoor’………..the lace saree was combined with a ¬†beaded jacket. The look had a very international feel to it but I thought the nathani made the look ‘too desi’. A pair of studd earrings might have worked better. But we do know that we can only expect something new from Sonam every time she walks the red carpet.¬†

Also spotted were Sonam & Freida together before walking the red carpet. The two beauty ambassador of ¬†L’oreal did look fashionable. Sonam is wearing a saree by¬†Huemn and earrings by Suhani Pittie.

Mallika Sherawat in a golden colour gown & looking all polished was a shock to me since she did look pretty. Though not a fan of the gown but Mallika’s hair & make-up plus the way this entire look was put together was worth a note. Hope to see a classy Mallika emerge at future sightings on the red carpet.

Vidya Balan arrives like a ‘Royal’ at Cannes

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on May 15, 2013

The Cannes madness begins with actress Vidya Balan arriving at the venue in true Indian style. Vidya wore a red ‘Sabyasachi’ Lehenga which had detailing limited to the hemlines …… she paired the look with a matching potli bag. The earrings are from ‘Amrapali’ & Vidya kept her hair/make-up minimal.

IFP was sure that Vidya who is a Sabyasachi & Amrapali loyalist could never go wrong with their designs. Vidya has been invited to this year’s Cannes Film Festival as one of the Jury member. Waiting & wanting to see more of her red carpet looks. The start is stunning and I truly hope that her Cannes journey leaves a beautiful red carpet memory etched into our minds.

Recollecting the red carpet looks from Cannes

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on May 12, 2013

Cannes Film Festival is a big event for our desi celebrities to walk the international red carpet dressed in the finest by India’s leading designers. We have very interesting list of Celebs who will walk the red carpet this year – The Bachchans, Freida Pinto, Sonam Kapoor, Vidya Balan and many more. IFP takes you through the years to list down some of the best & the forgettable red carpet looks of Indian Celebrities that we have witnessed in the past few years.

Best Looks at Cannes

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is a veteran at Cannes and also one of the celebrities to give the best red carpet looks over the years. But her best till date is the golden-green ‘Sabyasachi’ saree which she wore for the preview of ‘Raavan’ at Cannes [above] in the year 2010. ¬†The beautiful detailling on the saree combined with emerald green blouse, sleek parted hairdo and minimal jewellery scored Aishwarya the best red carpet look ever. It was very Indian and simply fabulous.

Other red carpet looks include Aishwarya Rai in Elie Saab at Cannes 2011. The pastel colour reflected beautifully on her polished skin while the peplum detail at the waist helped her to conceal her baby bump……… move for the red carpet.

Her other previous favourite looks include the black gown in the year 2005 & a blue gown which had a dazzling snake neck-piece in the year 2007. Hope her look this year tops all her previous looks.

Arjun Rampal & wife Meher Jessia were the best dressed couple at Cannes last year when Arjun opted for a Jodhpuri jacket paired with Jodhpuri pants by designer Rohit Bal………….. plus add a moustache for that Indian touch & we were floored. Wife Meher complemented his look in her yellow gown by designer Tarun Tahiliani. Kudos to them for picking this very contemporary Indian outfits for the international red carpet.

Sonam Kapoor keeps us eagerly awaiting for her walk down the red carpet at Cannes but her very first appearance at this event was by the far the most memorable one too. Sonam opted for a beautiful ‘Jean Paul Gaultier’ gown and Amrapali jewels that left an impression on our minds. She brought a lot of fun & freshness to the red carpet……….we love her for the fact that she isn’t afraid of taking fashion risks.

Sharmila Tagore stood her own in her choice of sarees when she was one of the Jury member at Cannes 2009. In a sea of gowns & dresses, Sharmila choose pastel colour sarees devoid of heavy detailing and complemented each of her looks with her collection of vintage Indian jewels. By far one of the more elegant looks as Sharmila brought her touch of royalty on the red carpet.

Forgettable looks at Cannes

One of Aishwarya’s early look were unfortunately the disastrous ones too………she was styled by Neeta Lulla for the event that gave us red carpet shock which we are yet to get over with. Seen above is Aishwarya in a green saree, beaded blouse & hairstyle by your enemy……. we really wish to forget this look from the history of Cannes.

Sonam Kapoor though did not look that bad, she failed to create an impression in this gown as well. Sonam is seen here wearing ‘Alexander McQueen’ gown at last years Cannes Film Festival. She did not take any fashion risk her and played safe with the hair, the make-up & the outfit of course. A young girl like Sonam definitely needed to be more adventurous.

Deepika Padukone’s first outing at Cannes in Rohit Bal did not make head turns……………..the reason was so many celebrities before Deepika had already posed in a saree plus there was nothing extraordinary in her look that would have made up sit up & take notice. Wish she would have worn a gown instead and gone wild with her make-up back then……… is hoping that she will not fail us the next time.

Mallika Sherawat has to the ‘Queen of¬†Disaster’¬†when it comes to dressing up for the red carpet at Cannes. Mallika got the outfit from ‘Dolce & Gabbana’, told her hairstylist to mess up her hair & wore high ankle heels to take her fashion revenge from people who love to write about her style.¬†What I fail to understand is that why did she make such a style mess on the international red carpet, instead could have tried on the desi red carpet & spared us this fashion moment.

Cannes Film Festival 2012 – Finale

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on May 28, 2012

At the end of Cannes this year, IFP has been surprised by unexpected red carpet appearances…………..many new Indian celebs walking at this ¬†event have made an impression fashionwise. So for the finally we finally got to see Sonam Kapoor on the red carpet………….was she able to take our breath away………let’s find out………

For the finale Sonam had opted for Alexander McQueen outfit that had left us with one question………………Why did she ever choose this outfit for the most prestigious red carpet event of the year???? She had Dior, Chanel, Naeem Khan, Valentino and so many other designers to select couture from but why this???

It’s not that we don’t like the gown but it does nothing to this brilliant fashionista……………the only saving grace is her hair & make-up. I wish Sonam would have opted for a structured gown that would do justice to her frame. This one is surely a¬†forgettable¬†look………..need more glamour factor.

Sonam Kapoor also made an appearance in a velvet ‘Dolce & Gabbana’ dress which was styled in a very vintage manner for the finale dinner. The hairband, the long earrings, all made the look classy. IFP likes it for sure……….this look was adventurous and better than her day look.

IFP also caught a Cannes look at Arjun Rampal & missus Mehr Jessia. Arjun looked absolutely like a prince in Rohit Bal’s Jodhpuri pants & jacket attire, but it was Mehr Jessia who stole the look in beautiful Tarun Tahiliani. As a couple IFP adores their red carpet ready look.

Cannes Film Festival 2012 – Day 10

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on May 26, 2012

After a day of amazing looks by the Indian celebs on the Cannes red carpet, I am at ease for the fact that our celebrities do know how to rock at any international events. Day 10 had the bigwigs of Hollywood walk the red carpet for the premiere of ‘Cosmopolis’ that stars the ‘Twilight series’¬†hear throb¬†Robert Pattison & Kristen Stewart. Among our desi celebs, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan also walked the red carpet.

Aishwarya wore an Elie Saab 2011 Couture gown for the premiere in midnight blue color. The mesh fabric ahd all over detail work along velvet floral appliqué at the waist. Elie Saab has been her choice for many international events and I must admit that the designer always makes Aishwarya look effortlessly elegant and beautiful in every look.

The irony of this¬†situation is¬†that international media is loving Aishwarya’s comeback on the red carpet, unfortunately it is just the Indian media that has been pretty rude about her looks. All I can say is that ‘real women have curves’ and Aishwarya portrayed that with utmost grace at Cannes 2012. From fashion point of view, I like the dress, the jewellery has been kept to the minimum and the make-up is all glam.

Cannes Film Festival 2012 – Day 9

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on May 25, 2012

Finally my wait is over…………..and I am delighted to see Aishwarya Rai Bachchan take on the Cannes red carpet for the 11th time in a row. Now that is a hell lot of experience for anyone. Aishwarya stunned us yet again with her style options this time around when she attended the amFAR’s ¬†‘Cinema against AIDS’ event at Cannes yesterday.

Aishwarya opted for a beautiful ‘Abu Jani – Sandeep Khosla’ ensemble which was a combination of a pastel color saree and a heavy detail work blouse. I am impressed at the ability of the designer to make Aishwarya look so beautiful in this Indian attire. I am in awe of the detail work on the blouse which had a lot of traditional zaridosi work and chikan-kari work on the saree……………..It was ‘Indianess’ at it’s best.

As for people concerned with Aishwarya’s weight issue…………….why consider it at all when she still looks this good. People please give some respect to a new mother who has many things on her mind apart from just looking good. Find a better way to waste your time than to discuss such petty issues since we all face similar things at some point of time.

So far this has been my favourite appearance at Cannes 2012. IFP also spotted Aishwarya in a more casual appearance for a photo shoot at Cannes.

Aishwarya opted for ‘Angelo Katsapis’ outfit for daytime………..the black and white ensemble put together with side swept hair. Simple yet very international.

Among other Indian celebrities, IFP spotted Kalki Koechlin in a ‘Sabyasachi’ outfit, clutch and hair accessory. The bejewelled hair band might seem a bit out of place but I still feel no one could have carried off it so well with an Indian outfit as well as Kalki did. IFP likes her style on the red carpet and the fact that she is different from the other usual pouting celebs.

Sonam Kapoor looked pretty in a Naeem Khan polka dot outfit while attending the Chopard & L’oreal bash at Cannes. She added a pop of color with a burgundy clutch. IFP likes her classy look in this outfit and wish to see her in more ‘Naeem Khan’ looks in future.

Mallika Sherwat was also at the amFAR event, I feel she has found an affinity towards the pastels and nude colors. She was dressed in¬†Ali Mahdavi outfit that had a hoodie………………but I am surprised that she could carry this off with such an ease. ¬†The vintage style hair and make-up add the much needed glamour to this outfit and she looks much better all covered up……..:-) IFP gives this look of Mallika a thumbs up and appreciates her effort for trying something new¬†on the red carpet every single time.

Cannes Film Festival 2012 – Day 8

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on May 24, 2012

I think that we are actually getting started at Cannes Film Festival with amazing movie line-up from ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ to ‘Peddlers’ both being received well at the festival. As for the red carpet, the unexpected celebrities are wooing us with their looks. Kalki Koechlin did bring a smile our face with her simple yet cute look. Day 8 saw the cast & crew of ‘Peddlers pose on the red carpet.

Kriti Malhotra, Gulshan Devaiah & Nimrat Kaur

Actress Kriti Malhotra of the ‘Dhobi Ghat’ fame wore a shimmer black gown by designer Jatin Varma. The gown was combined with a grey clutch, dangling earrings and black strappy sandals. The look was kept understated for more emphasis on the outfit.Whereas actress Nimrat Kaur wore a¬†fuchsia color gown at the event. As for the lead actor Gulshan, when you have two pretty women posing besides you, you certainly look good…………:-)

Just in : Nimrat is wearing Swapnil Shinde design and had worn Amrapali jewels at all events in Cannes. Thank you for the update Rubina.

Kriti Malhotra, Siddharth Menon & Nimrat Kaur

Also caught Nimrat Kaur wearing a Sabyasachi saree at the Semaine De La Critique’ event in Cannes. While Kriti Malhotra opted for a Gauri & Nainika Gown in summery yellow. Both the ladies looked gorgeous in western & Indian ensemble for their first time appearance at Cannes……….IFP has no complains on this.

Cannes Film Festival – Day 6 & 7

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on May 23, 2012

Finally we get to see an appearance of the cast members of the much talked movie ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’. Anurag Kashyap, his wife Kalki Koechlin and Manoj Bajpai along with other actors posed for the shutterbugs at the photo-call held in Cannes.

Richa Chadda,Huma Quereshi, Reema Sen and Kalki Koechlin pose for the camera.

It was good to see Kalki Koechlin on the red carpet in that gorgeous ‘Christian Dior’ outfit, though I am not fond of the neckpiece that she is wearing, I feel no one else could have every made it work so gracefully as Kalki did. After few disappointing celebrity looks, it was a refreshing change to see the cast of ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ and Kalki of course bring some fashion energy on the red carpet.

Richa Chadda at Cannes 2012 for the ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ photocall was carrying a ‘Invintage’ clutch from¬†‘MALAGA’.The flat-bottomed shape and sleek construction of the bag allow for a convenient carriage, while the zirconium and semi precious stones studded in an intricate pattern invoke the Regality of our Indian heritage. The brass metal bag, is an iconic piece of Malaga’s evergreen Invintage collection……….IFP does like this clutch which definitely stands out at this International event for its Indian appeal……..

Also spotted in Cannes was Sanjay Suri at the ‘Incredible India’ bash. Looking handsome in a Jodhpuri suit of ‘AD Man’ a label by designer Anita Dongre.

Cannes Film Festival 2012 – Day 4 & 5

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on May 22, 2012

After the hype created by Freida Pinto on the red carpet, there has not been anymore Indian celeb spotting on the red carpet that would have made us sit upright and take notice. Mallika Sherawat who should have created the buzz after Freida, seems to have been gone unnoticed by the shutter-bugs.

Mallika Sherawat wore a nude color gown with a sexy back and gave a peek of her bosom, but does it impress us fashionwise…………….. unfortunately not. The hair is too big, the outfit lacks class and just not fond of the skinshow either ways.

On the other hand, Sonam Kapoor attended the Gucci-Vanity Fair Party in Gucci ensemble, beautiful earrings and hair styled short which pratically destroyed the entire look. Still waiting to see the full length pics of hers to decide if this look worked or not???

Right now I am just thinking if Aishwarya Rai Bachchan would bring in some refreshing change on the red carpet. Sigh….

Cannes Film Festival 2012 – Day 3

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on May 19, 2012

I rejoice on hearing the news that Sonam Kapoor has left for Cannes, I truly look forward to what history this pretty lady will create on the red carpet. IFP loved her first appearance at Cannes last year and definitely her red carpet walk will be the most anticipated one for Indian fashionistas. Meanwhile, our very own star in Hollywood Freida Pinto is making waves with her style at Cannes 2012. Let’s check out her summer look on Day 3 which we loved……..

Shutterbugs spotted Freida at the photocall for ‘Desert Dancer’ held in Cannes. Freida wore a ‘Salvatore Ferragamo’ Resort 2012 outfit looking every bit like a celeb. The halter top was paired skirt in geometric print…..the outfit was combined with two-tone strappy sandals. For someone as young as her, I feel she could carry this summer outfit with alot of ease. Her sun-kissed look was kept simple with eye make-up and gloss while hair was styled in a pony.

Cannes Film Festival 2012 – Day 2

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on May 18, 2012

Indian media thought that Day 1 would be truly exciting to see many Indian celebs walk the red carpet, but were left a bit disappointed. But I can assure that the festival has just started, we will surely have many surprises to look forward to. As for Day 2, I loved Freida Pinto’s look in lime green……….that was thankfully fresh. Freida walked the red carpet again for the¬†premi√®re¬†of ‘Rust & Bone’.

Ms. Pinto took a risk with this color that did pay off on Day 2. IFP loves the beaded gown from ‘Atelier Versace’ and gives it a thumbs up. It had to be the color that scored browny points from IFP. The make-up was minimal and the hair pulled back in a pony. The look was young and chic.

Freida arrived in style in a ‘Paco Rabbane’ outfit at the L’oreal party held in Cannes. We like the dress but not feeling the hair which was too beauty pagent like. Out of the two IFP definitely loves her day look.

Also spotted was actress Fagun Thakrar attending Women In Film celebration which was organised by IFP, Calvin Klein Collection & Euphoria by Calvin Klein. She danced her way thru Cannes 2011 and seems to attract alot of shutterbugs this year too.

Cannes Film Festival 2012 – Day 1

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on May 17, 2012

Films, Red Carpet, Beauties, and the best in fashion. It never gets any bigger than seeing the new styles at Cannes film festival each year. Many trends world-wide get set here and IFP will surely keep you updated about our very own Indian celebs. So day 1 started off on a very fashionable note with Freida Pinto taking the red carpet as the brand ambassador of L’oreal Paris.

Freida Pinto opted for a pink Michael Angel gown and combined the look with ‘Chopard’ jewelry. The beaded bodice and the soft color works for us but the platform heels seems a little out-of-place with such a flowy ensemble. The hair and the make-up were¬†undoubtedly flawless but wish Freida would have opted for a more demure outfit for the first day at Cannes, since this outfit does not make any lasting impression.

While daytime look was softer, Freida opted for an all ‘Versace’ black gown which had beads & mesh detailing for the after party at Cannes. Freida who is amazingly dressed on the red carpet at all international events, seems to have missed the mark with these choices on Day 1. IFP does not hate the looks but is not in awe either. Hope to get pleasantly surprised by our Indian celebs during the upcoming days at Cannes 2012.
