‘India in Color’ by Payal Singhal

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on July 29, 2012

Payal Singhal Festive 2012

India in Color: Vibrant Young Modern and Global…. lets meet New India………

The pink of mystical Rajasthan, the joyous, bright hues of the northern frontier, and the balmy bright colors of the east offer a kaleidoscopic insight into an almost perfect blend of history and modernism.  And perhaps a trip down its many roads will lead you to an understanding of its pulse. Maybe you’ll take the road untaken and bring home a whole new hue to your life….

Inspired by Indian Adivasi costumes of Kutch and Orissa this collection of vibrantly hued ensembles in a rainbow of acid neon’s of cyan, fuchsia, lime, cobalt, and indigo is a tribute to the colorful tapestry of the country. Spun into a visual story with contemporary silhouettes like Kutras, kaftans, tunics, dresses, kalidar saris and short lehngas and embroideries like pita, abhla and zardosi for a rural meets urban text.

Payal established her label in India in 2000 to fill a niche for eclectic Indian clothing for young style setters. Now thanks to a global design sensibility the label stocks in various countries and travels with its unique mobile trunk shows all over the world.

Payal will be showcasing her collection on 3rd August, 2012 at the Lakme Fashion Week – Winter/Festive 2012. IFP likde her previous collection which had Indian bridal-wear, this time around we are waiting to be surprised by the designer with something new.

‘Wonderful World’ by Bhairavi Jaikishan

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on July 28, 2012

Bhairavi Jaikishan who has been in the fashion industry since the past 25 years presents a second season with a solo show at the Lakme Fashion Week with a fresh new collection that celebrates life. A wonderful journey of the designer through these past 25 years of creative beauty.

An emphasis on the styles and techniques developed through these past years and infused with new elements of color, silhouettes and techniques to present a unique and fresh collection for the season ahead.
Bhairavi Jaikishan is known for her pastels and bright colour pallete. However, in this collection, she breaks her tradition and incorporates a range of deeper colours she has never used before. A collection that features Black, Nude, Ivory, Mustard, Emeralds, Midnight Blue, Aubergine, Hot Pink, Red and Burgundy.

A focus on cocktail evenings, the collection shows traditional styles of saris and lehengas along with a unique silhouette that marries the two together. The “Lehenga-Sari” which has now become a trademark of every Bhairavi Jaikishan collection is the perfect combination of style and sophistication.

The silhouette offers the buyer an interesting alternative to traditional clothing. It maintains the classic style of a lehenga along with the grace of the traditional sari. Yet the amalgamation of both these styles brings forth a young and fresh feel, enhancing the feminine form.

Teamed with the concept of contrasting blouses which add an eclectic feel to the ensemble and encourages the concept of personal styling.

This collection offers a change from the classics yet maintaining a timelessness about them. Blouses with high embellished necklines that omit the need for jewelled neck-pieces. Statements by themselves.

‘Indian Fashion Police’ is delighted to get this sneak preview of Bhairavi Jaikishan’s upcoming collection which spells elegance all the way. Eager to see this collection at the Lakme Fashion Week which starts 3rd August, 2012.

‘Dark Angels’ by designer Jatin Varma to be showcased at LFW 2012

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on July 25, 2012

Jatin Varma presents

Designer Jatin Varma who is known for his atypical creations that have been donned by many a diva on Indian and International red carpets, presents yet another blockbuster new collection titled “Dark Angels” at the forthcoming Lakme Fashion Week.

In keeping with his signature style of couture with a touch of dramatic tailoring, this new line spells red carpet glamour, elegance & sophistication, with a dark Gothic twist. A look that is sure to set a new fashion trend amongst fashion divas.

Going away from his earlier collections, Jatin goes fiercely edgy this time with his gowns, short dresses with accents like power shoulders, chains, felt applique, embroidery, brass work, tone on tone sequence work in addition to feathered silhouettes. Midnight blue, stone grey, wine, deep purple add depth to the geometric embellishments on the garments.

With “Dark Angles”, Jatin moves away from soft, flattering cuts to a more glam, edgy line that is for the strong, confident diva who makes a statement with the bold Gothic undertones blended with uber sexy, feminine forms.

His earlier collection ‘Glisten’ received good reviews and IFP hopes the same for ‘Dark Angels’ too. Looking forward to the exciting Lakme Fashion Week 2012 where Jatin Varma will be showcasing this collection.

Since his last showing in March 2012, JV (as he is fondly known) has dressed celebrities such as Parineeti Chopra, Genelia De Souza, Sonakshi Sinha for red carpet events. The Jatin Varma line is available in stores across ten countries i.e. Saudi Arabia, Norway, USA, Kuwait, Germany, Egypt, Qatar, UK, Singapore, UAE.

Wedding Style for the Indian Man

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on July 19, 2012

I have written alot about Bridal couture on this space but many of the followers of ‘Indian Fashion Police’ also happen to be men who are interested in fashion. So why leave the fabulous men out??? is the question that keeps cropping in the teeny tiny mind of mine. I am trying to sum up few basic ideas which any man can opt for his wedding day. IFP gets to you the different styles that a man can wear as a groom and look his best.

Achkan & Sherwani

Well you have heard this word time & again during weddings in India but few know that Achkan is very different from a Sherwani. Sherwani tents out and is flared while the achkan is structured and contoured. This style can make any Indian man look like a royal on their wedding day. Sherwani usually has detail work while the Achkan can be without any detailing & just in one colour. Men looking out to work this style can pair their Sherwani with stoles, churidhar, straight fit pants or  patiala pyajamas. One can accessorize it with a turban and pearl necklace to give the ‘Maharaja’ effect. A jutti in similar fabric or detail-work can be worn with the sherwani.

Achkan is more simpler form and can be styled with an elegant shawl & jutti. Brocade or Monochromatic prints in Achkan style is very much ‘in vogue’ which don’t need too much accessories to enhance the look and are fit for the summers.  Just wear one, and you are ready for any event.

Jodhpuri Jackets

As the name suggests, Jodhpuri Jacket has it’s roots from Jodhpur – Rajasthan. It is how I would describe, the look of an achkan from above but short as a jacket in length. This silhouette once worn by the Maharajas and Leaders of our nation, has found it’s way to international fashion as well. These days Jodhpuri jackets are worn with jodhpuri pants & formal trousers.Because of versatility of this style, a man can wear it for any occasion like engagement parties, reception or any business meet too. It serves the purpose of a party wear as well as a formal outfit. Accessorize it a handkerchief better known as pocket square and classy pointed or square toe shoes and you will be ready to rock.

Waistcoats

A waistcoat have been making round in menswear, though it was never a favourite in past decades. But this trend is catching up fast during the wedding season. If you don’t know what to wear for casual events or a mehendi function, how about combining your kurta with a waistcoat that has a high collar. Also you can combine it with your western wear for an evening out with friends & family. Get a waistcoat made in brocade fabric that can be worn with any ensemble.

Tuxedo

For a reception post the wedding, please avoid a sherwani as that is better left for the traditional rituals. For cocktails or wine-n-dine style parties, opt for a Tuxedo and impress the crowd. But unfortunately only few men can carry this style off with an ease…….Rahul Khanna has to be one of the people who does justice to a Tuxedo. A single breasted jacket is preferred when it comes to selecting a Tuxedo. Emphasis is always given to the neck & shoulder fit to get the look right. Half-an-inch cuff show is ideal & the closure of the jacket should be at the belly button length in case of a single button jacket. Lace-up black leather shoes are always the choice with a black tuxedo.

Preview of Ritu Beri’s Upcoming Collection

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on July 16, 2012

Lakme Fashion Week – Autumn/Winter 2012 starts 3rd August, 2012 in aamchi Mumbai. IFP gets you an exclusive look at Ritu Beri’s new collection which she dedicates to Marilyn Monroe who was one of the most celebrated and enduring icons of all times. Though Marilyn is no longer amongst us, Ritu Beri believes that she truly lives even today,in every woman.

Ritu Beri’s collection is inspired by the Marilyn Monroe of today who is eternally youthful with a spirit that is flirtatious and sexy but in a girly way. Monroe captivated hearts through her breathy, blonde bombshell appeal combined with her light comical approach to life- her timeless glamour is represented perfectly by the Volvo Cars and this young, romantic Ritu Beri collection relevant to today’s Marilyn Monroe. It is the same woman who is also a fan of the Volvo cars.

Monroe said, “I’m very definitely a woman and I enjoy it. I don’t mind being burdened with being glamorous and sexual. Beauty and femininity are ageless and can’t be contrived,  glamorous cannot be manufactured- not real glamour; it’s based on femininity”.

Following her concept of femininity  and the philosophy of Volvo cars Beri’s collection is a range of feminine and spirited clothes. The basic concept behind this collection is to create a feminine look for the woman of today; who lives life on a fast lane but looks inwardly for that primary element- the soul!

The colour palette is soft; lots of creams with a splash of bright colours like red, pink, blue, turquoise and yellow. The fabrics used are basic weaves of pure cottons and laces, all artistically blended and intricately embroidered to create a magical spell. The silhouettes are very wearable, contemporary with interesting subtle details. Essentially, the collection is western with  an eclectic blend of blouses, long layered skirts, slim legged pants, with elaborate evening dresses and gowns.

The desire to go beyond accepted limits; to flirt with the forbidden; to upset the established order- this is the genesis of Ritu Beri’s collection.

This is a collection that is glamorous and accentuates the female form thereby celebrating the spirit of today’s woman- today’s Marilyn Monroe!

Celebrity Hairstyles

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on July 5, 2012

Celebrities dress in their most stylish designer outfits on the red carpet, but many A-List celebs forget to style their hair that can make a huge difference to their looks. These days many women opt for poker straight hair which does look neat, but that is a trend which more than half the world is following. IFP lists downs four Indian celebrities who always have something new up their sleeve in terms of hairstyles. How they inspire us fashion wise and why they stand out on the red carpet? IFP explains you why………..

Bipasha Basu

Mirror, Mirror on the wall…………..who has the best hairstyle of all? Well if I were the mirror, ‘Bipasha’ would be the name that would echo from my mouth. Call me crazy about Bips but this lady has definitely set some standards on the desi red carpet. From straight layered hair to loose curls, she has a new look every single time she steps out of her house. Off late Bipasha has been seen sporting a side swept braid or ponytail along with her casual outfits. All of Bipasha’s hairstyle looks have been created by hairstylist Sapna Bhavnani…………be it the red hair extensions, short bob, side swept fringe……..we think Sapna continues to do an amazing work on this pretty lady.

Deepika Padukone

Deepika is not just a pretty face, but she gives a lot of emphasis to her hair. The brand ambassador of ‘Parachute’ haircare, Deepika is always spotted wearing different hairstyles, on & off the screen. Earlier she was seen in wavy hair that spelt beach look but the lady has been showing off more sophisticated hairdos at recent events. IFP loved to see Deepika in chignon on the Cannes red carpet that spelt ‘C-L-A-S-S’. She has been styled by many leading hairstylist in India, but the team of b:blunt have been her ‘go-to’ stylists. Deepika experiments with her hair a lot and usually wears them down. Her signature look would be the tousled wavy hair which goes well along with her casual look.

Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka started out with the boring long hair but boy she is a delight to see on the red carpet. She made layers super trendy in the movie ‘Dostana’ and continues to pleasantly surprise us with her fierce hairstyles. She has thankfully ditched the bollywood style big hair and opted for sleeker looks. She even went short with an angled bob which made her look even more demure. These days one can see Priyanka sporting a bouffant ponytail for a casual do but she goes all glam with voluminous hair with loose curls for any big event. She has been styled by Javed Habib, Savio John Pereira and Sapna Bhavnani. IFP finds her gravitating more towards 1960s & 70s look for her recent appearances.

Sonam Kapoor

Sonam is not just about dressing up but also loves to experiment with her hairstyles. As a brand ambassador of L’oreal, she has the best team to create her new looks wherever she goes. She wowed us with her pinned up ringlet hairdo at Cannes 2011 dressed in a ‘Jean Paul Gaultier’ gown. Curls, twists, updos, finger waves, hair loops, vintage hair or even Victorian era hair………Sonam has tried all styles on her hair. IFP likes the look where her hair is styled away from her face in a sleek bun or a ponytail.

Trendy Manicure style this season

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on July 2, 2012

Every season not just the clothes, but even your beauty style should get a face-lift.  Here are a couple of manicure trends which IFP thinks makes a cut this season.

Caviar Manicure

Caviar is not just pair with champagne but now can we added to your manicure as well. The latest trends to hit the manicure market, has to be the Caviar beads which IFP finds fabulous and fit for women of all ages. What’s best about this trend is that it is not too loud yet spells trendy all the way long. Many Hollywood celebs have caught on with this trend and hope to see it at the nail spas in India soon. You can also buy the tiny beads and D-I-Y at home with any of your favourite nail color. This one is worth a try this season…………

Louboutin Manicure

If you though that Louboutins are just a synonym for stylish shoes…………think again. The label which has the patent red sole has got transformed into trendy manicure style where the inner side of the nail is painted red while the outer tip can be of any other shade….just like a pair of Louboutins. Famous celebs have been seen on the red carpet rocking this trend………..so rush to your manicurist & flaunt this style on your next party.

Gradient Manicure

Imagine seeing sunset on your fingertips till the time your manicure lasts………different shades of a single color merge on a tiny finger-nail is what gradient manicure looks like. The base is usually kept in lighter shade which becomes darker till the tip with the help of a sponge. You can  try in blue, green, red, yellow, infuse two colors or try with neutral shade & combine it with shimmer tips…………the choices are unlimited.
