Vogue Beauty Awards 2011

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on July 30, 2011

Vogue India and Mickey Contractor come together every year to celebrate the Vogue Beauty Awards 2011, of course we have loads of celebrities making their presence felt at this event. Here is your low down on who wore what and how did they fare???

Anuskha Sharma

It is jumpsuit galore these days…………Anushka’s choice for the event was also a jumpsuit by Stella McCartney. She rocked this look which was sophisticated yet perfect for the event. The satin jumpsuit added loads of elegance to her pretty looks plus the strappy shoes were a perfect fit with the outfit. All I can say that it is casual but appropriate for such a fun event.

Madhuri Dixit

And I fall in love with Madhuri Dixit all over again………..this is how this beautiful lady ought to dress up and enter fashion events. She looked every bit graceful in this black gown with earrings to add that touch of ‘bling’……….I would have added a cuff too, but nonetheless Madhuri works that gown superbly. Do check out her ‘Vogue’ cover this month…………I am all eyes the way she has been styled……….she looks like a ‘Diva’ in true sense.

Dia Mirza

Dia Mirza opted for this shimmer top dress [I think it is a’Vince’ outfit again] and basic black open toe pumps for the night……she did look cute and that is what we are not looking out at the red carpet event. Since she is going thru the sequin dress pahse, I feel Dia can definitely do better than this.

Feroze Gujral

Feroze Gujral came in a black and white off shoulders gown with a traditional ‘Matha Tikka’………..I wish she would have given it a miss since just the gown works for me……..a cuff or a neck-piece would have given a glam look. This mix of traditional with the west somewhere did not gel well.

Shraddha Kapoor

Shraddha Kapoor is going places these days with walking at Couture Week, as the face of ‘Lakme’ and now at Vogue Beauty Awards…….usually one sees her dressed looking fun and ready to party. But this off shoulder gown in brown made me cringe my nose………..I prefer the Shraddha who is ready to experiment and take risks with her looks. This one is way too simple for my taste……….does no justice to her pretty looks.

Tisca Chopra

Tisca Chopra also went for the safer route by opting for black gown but somehow failed to make an impression with her style…..The Alexander McQueen clutch is the only pretty thing in this entire ensemble……….I truly believe it was the length of the gown where the entire look went wrong……….the hemline should have been a wee bit lower to cover those platform shoes……..better if she would have opted for high heel pumps without platforms.  Alas such a pretty lady….maybe it was not her day.

Simone Singh

Simone Singh wearing a James Ferreira gown is a good combination………..the satin outfit stood out of the rest………the hair, the unique pattern of the dress, the cuff and the shoes……………..I feel she looks pretty when all of these are combined together. One someone else the dress might have not looked that great………Simone did absolute justice to the ensemble.

Cosmopolitan Fun, Fearless Awards – Red Carpet Review

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on March 7, 2011

The well known Cosmopolitan magazine had organized a Fun,Fearless Award events in Mumbai with many A-List celebrities gracing the red carpet. For our dish of the event, let’s see who fared well and who was a disaster on the red carpet.

Kareena Kapoor

Somebody who looked different has to be Kareena Kapoor in a beautiful peach colour with shimmer ‘Elie Saab’ gown. She looked very cute but wished she would have tied her hair up since she is wearing a halter neck. But nonetheless this look works for me since it is chic yet effortless…………Like it from the short dresses that she usually wears at such event. Refreshing change for once….

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

The lady in black i.e. Aishwarya wasnot looking exactly what I would expect her to wear. She is into wearing pants off late but all black looks very boring on her…………black trousers with a smart top with some ruffles would have looked good on her plus more colour with some open toe pumps. But hey that is just my opinion………………For someone who had rocked the red carpet at the Oscars, this is way too ‘bland’……more colour required here.

Imran Khan & Avantika

Imran Khan walked in with wife Avantika, both dressed in black with Imran wearing a neat black suit and a clean shaven look while Avantika went for a very lady like ‘Gauri & Nainika’ gown. Love the simple look and think that as a couple they look great. For the event this style is very appropriate given their young age. Like it………..absolutely.

Anushka Sharma

Anushka Sharma wore this simple black gown that actually lacked imagination……………….for an event where one can be dressed in fun colours and fashion forward designs why go retro with simplicity. I would have liked her wearing a knee length dress like a ‘Prabal Gurung’ in bold colour coupled with killer heels………….Not liking this since have seen her do much, much better earlier. She has the bod, the grace and the naughty eyes………why not flaunt it???

Malaika Arora Khan

Malaika Arora Khan who is dressed to the nines on the red carpet, this time around seems a little out of place with straight hair, traditional Indian jewellery, the bandage dress and the shoes……….especially the shoes which is ruining the entire look. I do love her jewellery but feel it would have looked better with the gown in same colour rather on this short dress. For now, not into this look………….hope to see a great one in future.

Ramona Garware

Ramona’s dress colour reminds me of egg yolk or mangoes and not fashion forward. The colour simply washes her out with the blonde hair and the peacock blue open toe pumps. Even the all gold bling is not able to save the look. A darker shade would have worked but this is not my cup of tea………anybody liking this look???

Masaba Gupta

Designer Masaba Gupta looked quite dapper in the black short dress with matching shoes and a turquoise blue clutch to add that pop of colour. The sheer fabric detail at the waist does get our focus but in a subtle manner, just wish if she would tie her hair up and experiment a bit with longer earrings. Like the look which is age appropriate and just right for the event.

Shahid Kapur

Unfortunately I cannot find the handsome Shahid Kapur in this pic………..what I see here is someone who has come straight from work and is tired to dress up for the event. The stubble, no belt, the unpolished brown shoes and the crinkled pants……………need I say anymore. For someone who looks good, this is unfair……….next time Shahid Wrap up the shooting hours before in order to dress up for the red carpet or drop coming to such events if you wanna be dressed like that. Hate it………..

Neelam and Sameer Soni

Did somebody wrap Neelam in a silver foil and present her on the red carpet???? Yup that is what they did………..the newly weds though look made for each other, their dressing is not very appealing. Sameer Soni walks in wearing a blazer and denims, a style which I quoted as ‘out of fashion’ in ‘Fashion for Menswear‘…………….read this site Sameer!!! As for Neelam, the dress is too flashy for she oozes loads of grace & elegance. Wish to see her in a more diva-like avatar in pastels, peach and pinks.

Simone Singh

Peaches and cream is what I call Simone for her flawless skin, she came dressed in this shimmer number combined with black leggings. I like her look for it is glamorous but very stylish……….I like the way she dresses up at certain event and is totally comfortable in her skin. Though personally I would have worn stud earrings instead of a chandelier ones which Simone is seen wearing here, she can carry it off well. Like this ensemble………

Ranveer Singh

Leather jacket that too folded, pressed in half, faded denims and the red shoes coupled with bad hair do……………..a perfect recipe for red carpet disaster. Ranveer Singh simply forgot to see the mirror before leaving his home…………… his boots might be any big label but with the jeans tucked in so badly they spoil the entire look. A talented actor but definitely needs a stylist when it comes to red carpet………anyone interested in applying for the job????

GQ India Mens Award 2010 – Red Carpet Review

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on September 28, 2010

GQ Mens Award event was full of glamour quotient which is what makes this blog tick………….I love to see our very own Indian celebrities on the Red Carpet, where they all are dressed up to rock the fashion world. This time around Indian GQ Mens Award had Hollywood presence as well with the legendary John Travolta who is visiting India currently, posed for the shutterbugs. Let’s kick off with who wore what at this event……….

Abhishek & Aishwarya Bachchan

Abhishek and wifey Aishwarya have been voted as the most powerful celebrity couple in Asia by E! News Asia, I am a believer since no red carpet event is complete without the cosy twosome. Abhishek Bachchan wore a three piece black suit with a red tie to add that pop of colour…………………..no complaints about him since he is looking absolutely dressed for occassion and very much like a gentleman. Whereas I felt Aishwarya’s gown to be a bit dull……..the grey colour though was gorgeous but the bodice part is where things went wrong. The neckline cut in steps and the glitter part did not do much on the glamour part of this gown plus with the hair swept to one side………….I am not a fan. My advice to Aishwarya is that she is one of very few women in India to carry off glamorous outfit with an ease so please don’t be too simple.

Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan who was dressed in a Tuxedo also rocked the red carpet scene and was on a high with the Peepli Live selected for the Oscars from Indian Cinema………………this time around I wish his moviewould get the international accolade since I honestly believe he is one of the few Indian who uses his celebrity status for the betterment of our country. Coming back to his red carpet style, I like the fact that he went all formal for the occassion but feel the seams of his pants were too tight when worn with those shoes. Maybe it is just me????? But on the whole I am all for this avatar of Aaamir with hair neatly styled, the one button tux are smart……………Mr. Perfectionist gets a thumbs up for me. Hope the young guns of Hollywood follow him when it comes to dressing up for the occassion.

Priyanka Chopra

The vivacious Priyanka Chopra was all glam in the beige strapless gown…………….though the shiny satin in that colour is something I would personally avoid but Priyanka is able to carry off with ease. Though many fashionistas hated this look, I say it is glamorous, sexy and the colour is doing good on Priyanka’s complexion. So I am for it since I feel this woman oozes loads of sex appeal and has a great body so why not flaunt it. Go Pri………….Love this look. Priyanka won the ‘Woman of the Year’ award too………..

Abhay Deol and Preeti Desai

Abhay Deol seems to be inspired by Boy george’s early 1980s look…………………I like his individualistic sense of style but the shiny shoes with the loose tie and the fitted pants that don’t match his blazer…………..style wise it is not how I would have dressed up for a GQ magazine Mens Award……………..this style would have worked for MTV music awards but not here. Sorry Abhay, you are an amazing actor but this get up is just not for me. Funnily Preeti Desai looked all dressed for the occasion in the Little Black dress, ruby red lips and those killer heels. For sure this lady has a sense of style and knows it is always better to emphasize on one thing only when you are on the red carpet.

 Ranbir Kapoor

The Youngistaan heartrob Ranbir Kapoor was all dressed up in a Tuxedo which could have been fitted better since the suit seems loose at the waistline, the sleeves were too long and the bow tie was a bit limp. But what I wish Ranbir had shaved off and looked neat since one needs to put a handsome face on in those tux. So please tidy up next time around when you are all dressed up and show off your good looks to the world.

Dino Morea & Nandita Mahtani

Dino Morea might not be a big star in Bollywood but when it comes to style, he sure knows what looks good on him. I like his no tie, no bow look since he has kept it simple in a black suit and a white shirt with black piping on the button section. The outfit is neat and right for the event…………………whereas Nandita whose dress I simply love, made the wrong shoe choice. The animal print would have looked better on black, browns or beige but not on this blue. The one shoulder dress with detail work on the shoulder is beautiful but the shoes destroyed the look. I would have preferred a matt gold strappy shoes that match her clutch as well.

Arjun Rampal & Mehr Jessia

Mehr And Arjun both dressed in black was too much for me this time………………Of course Arjun looked pretty decent except for his tie which I felt was not required and the collar was unable to hide the tie.  Rest nocomplaints about his suit but I expect Mehr to wear more colour on the red carpet. She has am amazing body, alluring heigth, beautiful features……………..so what is stopping her from wearing colour and look drop dead gorgeous on the red carpet. All black outfit with a ‘Chanel’ waist chain is doing no wonders here…………….

Chunky & Bhavna Pandey

Chunky Pandey who surprisingly looks quite dapper in this suit and a tie that matches his background well…………I like his look for the fact that he has kept his entire suit simple in one colour but added a pop of colour through his tie. While wife Bhavna looks quite mis-matched with the animal print clashing with the florals. I wish her outfit would have been of one print only……………either all floral or all animal print. Mixing both is not giving the desired ‘fabulous’ look……….thought the shoes and matching ‘Bottega’ clutch give an understated look and work well here.

Simone Singh

As lovely as Simone truly is, this jumpsuit is not for her………………..the greenish blue satin jumpsuit with hideous pockets on the side, the shimmer jacket accompanied are a recipe for disastor. The only thing I like about this attire is her ‘Tiffany’ key pendant which looks elegant even against that colour. I wish Simone would have skipped her jacket altogether, wrn the jumpsuit alone and accessoried with a stylish cuff and a pair of earrings complimenting her pendant. Plus my advice to all would be to avoid pairing golden and silver hues in a single outfit…………….make only one metallic tone work while you dress up.

Queenie Dhody

Socialite & Jewellery designer Queenie Dhody walked in with beau Farhad Taraporewala dressed in tiger print sequin studded gown…………………..my eyes went wide open looking at the mess. Honestly if a woman is over the age of 40, it is sbetter to use animal prints in subtle measures like on the rim of a dress or jacket, on handbags, in form of scarf, shoes…………..the key is to keep it minimal. This is too loud for Queenie……….the big black clutch, the old Hollywood style hair, the sequins…………..all of it is too much. I would love to see her in pastels with a hint of shimmer.

Sheetal Malhar

Did someone just go for a walk on the beach, lost her way and ended up on the red carpet of GQ India Mens Award???? I think that has to be Sheetal Malhar…………..unfortunately the dress, the pearl necklace and the shoes are pretty…………but not appropriate for the event. The leather bag is also to some extent a spoiler in this attire…….would have loved to see sheetal in a Grecian inspired gown instead of a short summer dress.

Parmeshwar Godrej

Yyyyyyeeeeeeeekkkkkksssss…………….that is my reaction seeing Parmeshwar Godrej in this ensemble……….all I can say is ‘What was she thinking???’ The black shiny leggings, the net bodice, the low cleavage, the boring stole, the shiny pumps, all might be big labels but they ain’t looking good here. My request to Ms. Godrej is to tone down a bit and stick to graceful vintage outfits which are plenty in market. A woman like her will look amazing in a ‘Chanel’ rather than this hideous dress.

Rahul Khanna

Rahul Khanna definitely looks suave in this attire………………..hands down he is looking polished, sophisticated and handsome. Need I say any more for Rahul who is dressed in a two button Tuxedo which has an excellent fit……..by far this is my favourite look for GQ Mens Award. Rahul also hosted the event for the evening.

Anusha Dandekar

Anusha Dandekar wore a very colourful sequin dress made by Shane & Falguni Peacock has hotch-potch designs like the peek-a-boo cleavage, the black hemline, shimmer all over reminds of the song ‘Shiny Disco Ball’. But Anusha still managed to look amazing in the dress……………..maybe body language can make a world of difference. The belt and the shoes get her out of the brink of being badly dressed and the side swept ponytail puts the focus on her face rather than the glittery dress. Still not a fan of the dress, but adore Anusha in it.

Rahul Bose

Good things come in small packages………….well that is what I can say after looking at Rahul Bose who looked perfect in a grey suit adorned with black buttons, silver tieand balck shoes. The fit is proper, the hair is sleek, the tie stands out well……….the actor has never looked better. I am loving his style……………..No one could have done grey better than Mr. Bose.

How to dress in your 30s!!!

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on April 28, 2010

I have come across many people who dread the age 30 and crossing over for them is a big deal but honestly it is totally in your mind coz 30s is the next 20s. Looking at beautiful women in their 30s and still rocking the fashion scene, I feel age is just a number now and it is ok to let people know that you might be 30 years old but have become wiser, much more calmer with time. A woman in this age group is more confident about her body and comfortable in her own skin. Her skin glows coz her pimple face years are behind her and her wrinkles are yet to arrive………….in short she is in the best shape but that does not mean she does not have other concerns in her life.

A woman in her 30s is at her busiest stage in life whether it is about children, work, family, social life…………..she is always in a hurry. But nonetheless she has never looked more stunning since she is at a stage where she can blend the elegance with beauty. Gone is the age-old myth that a woman in her 30s needs to cover up……………if you have a good healthy body, go ahead flaunt it………..

Please remember to dress your age and not younger, coz you will end up looking like a big mess believe me since we all see such disasters on the red carpet quite often. Embrace the 30s and you would have never looked better in your entire lifetime. Indian silhouettes like Sarees and Salwar Kameez are evergreen whatever be your age but go in for well-fitted tailored pants, formal tops paired with denim, knee-length skirts, evening gown, long flowy dresses work for this age group. Say goodbye to mini-skirts even if you have the body to carry it off…………it simply is not age appropriate……..besides one can look even more sexy without showing off too much of skin. Go in for floral dresses for the summers teamed with a pair of shades, bag and flat shoes or sandals like gladiators strappy ones [avoid flip-flops unless you are at the beach] for day-wear, a smart formal top combined with a belt on top of a formal trouser/skirt and stilettos/kitten heels for office wear.

For a more casual look try going in for a t-shirt [no skin fits please] or a shirt with jeans as per your body type since skinny jeans might not suit all body type. Halter neck look great be it day-wear or evening time………….I even love to see women in their 30s wearing square and v-necks to focus on their collar bones and neck.  Evening gown or knee-length dresses work for this age group which makes one look alluring in a very classy way when worn with a small clutch and a pair of open toe heels. Open toe heels are my favourite be it with Indian or Western attire they look good any outfit.

Oversized bags should be avoided at any cost unless you are travelling go for medium-sized leather bag in a sober colours like black, brown and beige which you can match with maximum outfits in your wardrobe.  Also don’t forget to co-ordinate your bag with shoes and belts. Saree can be worn with halter necks for a glamorous look, Kurti chudidhars are a must-haves, Empire waist dresses are to die for………………Fabrics like chiffon and crepes work for this age groups……….One shoulder dress/top make a woman look ‘oh-so-fabulous’. Also one can try lace tops, wrap dresses and ankle length boots [avoid if you live in a tropical city]

Avoid too chunky or girlish jewellery [please no cartoon motif here] instea. d opt for silver and gold combined with diamonds or precious gems. Go for long chains, chandelier earrings, classic stackable diamond rings and bangles with western outfits whereas do wear heavy kundan jewellery like earrings, necklace and bangles with your Saree/Salwar Kameez since I feel this age can easily carry off heavy Indian jewellery………………..as a rule concentrate either on the outfit or the accessorises do not have both in excess. If your Indian attire has heavy all-over embroidery then go light on jewels and vice versa.

The photos displayed below are of the celebrities in their 30s who still rock the page 3 with their fashion sense and have never looked better.
