Red Carpet at TOIFA 2013

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on April 7, 2013

Times of India Film Awards or better known as TOIFA was held this weekend in Vancouver, Canada. IFP gets you a glimpse at the red carpet of TOIFA and how our stars fared on it.

TOIFA-ASHABHI

Abhishek & Aishwarya pose on the red carpet at TOIFA complimenting each other’s style in Indian wear. Aishwarya was dressed in a green anarkali by ‘Sabyasachi’ while Abhishek was spotted in a bandhgala. As a couple they looked nice but I still believe this look would have been much more glamorous.

TOIFA-Nargis

Nargis Fakhri dressed in a glittery ‘Komal Sood’ gown posed in style. On someone else the gown would have been a total wash-out but Nargis looked ‘Hot’…………..especially the fuchsia pink lips.

Toifa-Pri2

Priyanka Chopra dazzled in a black & golden ‘Arpan Vohra’ outfit at TOIFA………..this one is definitely one of her best red carpet looks. The dress is sexy, her side swept hairstyle is fashionable and the make-up is beautiful. Wish Priyanka would continue these amazing red carpet appearances in future too.

TOIFA-Neha

Neha Dhupia knows how to work a ‘Sabyasachi’ outfit. IFP loves her military inspired look which was definitely a tough one to carry but Neha pulled this look off with sheer elegance. The pulled back hair, flawless make-up and minimal accessories…….. 🙂 🙂

TOIFA celbration

Ileana D’cruz shares a joke with Prabhudeva on the red carpet………here I actually felt that Prabhudeva looked way better than Ileana who is usually dressed perfect. Maybe this was her day off………………not liking the gown or styling of this look. 😦

TOIFA celbration

Ranbir Kapoor has finally heard IFP’s plead to woo us on the red carpet…………….the man looked dapper in a three piece suit and trimmed stubble. This is definitely how we want a star to be seen on the red carpet. IFP has got at least this wish fulfilled………sigh!!

TOIFA-SG

Shahrukh & Gauri Khan wanted to paint the town red………..well at least their appearance did feel like that. Shahrukh finally opted for some colour by wearing a maroon dinner jacket while Gauri wore a ‘Tarun Tahiliani’ saree. I do like  Gauri’s hairstyle which is a refreshing change & it works with this outfit.

TOIFA-Aditi

Aditi Rao Hydari in a ‘Gauri & Nainika’ gown could have been a match made in fashion heaven…………..unfortunately the reverse happened. I cannot pin point if it was the shiny fabric or the colour that did this look in……..wish the gown would have been in fuchsia colour. Maybe it would have worked……………at least for now this look spelt disaster.

TOIFA-Anushka

Anushka Sharma wore a suit again on the red carpet…………not that IFP has any complains since she looked so good with those hair bangs & red lips. Anushka was the ‘Host’ for the evening along with Ranbir Kapoor so I think they had a dress code to follow for this event……….but a fabulous girl like her deserves to be seen in couture gowns & Indian-wear………there is always a next time.

‘Abu-Sandeep’ the label celebrates 25 Years

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on November 9, 2011

Renowned designers Abu Jani & Sandeep Khosla celebrated 25 years in fashion business in Mumbai where many celebreties were invited. The designer duo associated this big event with ‘Moet & Chandon’ and the party took place at Grand Hyatt, Mumbai. Here is a look at who attended this big event:

Mum-to-be Aishwarya Rai Bachchan suprised everyone by making an appearance at this event along with hubby Abhishek. She glowed in a Black & Golden outfit by Abu-Sandeep and marked a perfect 10 with flat joothis in the same combination. Abhishek on the other hand needs to ditch the leather jacket look where he is neither formal nor sporty. A clash between the 2 looks spells disaster on the red carpet……….Abhishek we love you more in a formal look, sporty look is just not for you.

Dimple Kapadia and daughter Twinkle Khanna also dazzled the red carpet  in their respective Abu-Sandeep outfits. Both of them have been muses for Abu-Sandeep and loved fabulous in this off-white ensembles.

Kudos to Twinkle for adding a ‘pop of color’ via her ‘Bottega Veneta’ clutch and Jewelry……………she did rock the red carpet.

Is someone trying hard to get attention of the shutter-bugs??? Well Sonali definitely got our attention when she posed in this mis-match saree outfit. The detail work on the blouse is beautiful but when combined with this saree made way for red carpet disaster. Not liking the look where the hair is a mess, the saree pallu is draped just for the heck of it……………..as for the Shristhi Behl and Ali Zafar they seemed to have a good time at the party….:-)

Sussane Roshan attended the event D & G lace dress which was unfortunately paired with wrong shoes & clutch. The nude peep toes and the huge clutch seemed out-of-place and made the look feel more bulky. Since the simple lace dress calls for more drama, Sussane could have paired this outfit with a glitter clutch and shoes in black.

As elegant as Kirron Kher is, at this event she looked a bit in a hurry with the hair & jewelry totally out of place. May be it was a bad hair day for Ms. Kher who is usually dressed in the most classic way. Still like her choices of saree and the way she carries them……….sigh.

Here is someone with ’18 till I die’ spirit…………….Queenie Singh has the body women of her age would envy but unfortunately her choice of teeny-tiny outfits makes her a fashion disaster. The element of grace is missing in her styling…………….Queenie needs to dress in a more elegant manner if she needs to make a fashion statement.

Making a rare appearance on the red carpet was Sangeeta Bijlani in a black lycra fit top and a sarong………….wait is that a SARONG on the red carpet…………….there you have another fashion disaster. The see through effect caused by the camera lights and the sarong which is better off for pool parties do make Sangeeta guilty of bad fashion choice. Such a pretty face…………..such bad styling….sigh

Arjun Rampal and Mehr Jessia came in hand-in-hand at this party where Mehr wore ‘Herve Leger’ bandage dress in peach while Arjun kept it simple in a blazer. Mehr had me on the color simple she either opts for black or white. This color choice is a pleasant surpise……..Love this appearance by her where the dress obviously takes all the attention and the accessories are kept simple.

Celebrity Sightings this Week

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 28, 2011

This week witnessed loads of celebrations due to Diwali festival and this week also saw a lot of celebrity sightings. Here is the best from the week.

Lady Gaga arrives in style

Lady Gaga has arrived in India as she will be performing at the Grand Prix, but what I love about her that she like a chameleon can adapt to any style………….one moment she is a rockstar, then suddenly she turns up at an event looking like a ‘Diva’. She did surprise me in this beautiful ‘Naeem Khan’ designed one shoulder gown…………she looked splendid while she flaunted in this outfit accessorized with diamond jewelry and ‘vintage’ look sunglasses as she attended a press conference in New Delhi. Love, love. love…………

Kareena Kapoor unveils her wax statue at Madame Tussauds

Kareena Kapoor unveiled her wax figure at Madame Tussauds in London. The figurine was dressed in ‘Jab we Met’ avatar and definitely is a high-point in her career to be recognized internationally as well.

As for me, I still think the original one looks much prettier in her ‘Manish Malhotra’ saree………groovy baby.

Ekta Kapoor’s Diwali Bash

Kangana Ranaut took some inspiration from the 1960s to dress up in this peach ‘gotta’ work saree with side swept hairdo and a mini ‘Birkin’………..all the beautiful things put together unfortunately fell flat. Next time skip the bag and opt for a classy clutch. A bit of drama helps but too much of it actually spoils the look.

Someone seemed to be in some hurry………….Tusshar Kapoor was seen attending this bash in a olive green bandhgala which seemed way to body fit………Go easy on the fit, we don’t want celebrities gasping for fresh air due to tight clothes……:-)

Sophie Choudry is definitely emerging to be my favorite on the red carpet……she wore this fabulous ‘Sabyasachi’ gown to the bash and looked absolutely flawless. The understated Bottega Veneta clutch with strappy shoes complete her Anarkali look.

Samir Soni and Neelam did look color co-ordinated except for the jazzy big clutch. Though I  like her shimmery shoes……….

Spotted designer Nandita Mahtani in this hot pink saree with floral detail all over. Love the saree, hate the way it is draped and accessorized……..sigh.

Bachchans throw a Diwali Bash

Bachchan’s held a Diwali party at their residence in Juhu where many celebrities made their way to attend this event. Among the invitess were Neil Nitin Mukesh, Sonali Bendre, Raveena Tandon, Shabana Azmi, Javed Akhtar, Simi Garewal, Zayed Khan and many more. But what was good, that we people got to have a sneak peek of mum-to-be Aishwarya welcoming guests.

Celebrity Sightings this week

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 21, 2011

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Baby Shower

Jaya Bachchan welcomed every guest for Aishwarya’s baby shower which was held at the ‘Bachchan’ residence in Juhu. She was seen wearing this beautiful pastel-golden motif saree [my guess Abu-Sandeep]. Love the saree though the hair needed a bit of help…………..on second thought since it was an event at her residence, so whatever complaints I have gets compensated by her graceful saree…….:-)

Bipasha Basu was seen wearing a ‘Manish Malhotra’ creation in pink & white…………..she did look gorgeous, love her hair but what was an eye-sore was Karan Johar dressed in oversized denim shirt and pants. A kurta would have done better work……………but the ceremony was meant for ladies, so can let Karan go off the hook for now.

Twinkle Khanna definitely knows how to dress for any damn occasion…………she looks stunning in this Abu-Sandeep designed kurti-churidhar along with a ‘Chanel’ bag and peep-toes. Two thumbs up for Twinkle who has always opts for classic pieces. A color like this would have not worked otherwise on someone else……………Twinkle simply rocks in it.

Neetu Kapoor also came in dressed in Abu-Sandeep outfit, Do I need to say anything about this beautiful woman who still looks charming at any given time…………….elegance, grace and poise……….Neetu surely has it all.

Also spotted at the event were Neelam and Manyata Dutt…………Neelam looks pretty in a blue-green kurti-churidhar, I do like Manyata’s peach saree but neck up the story is entirely different. Wish Manyata would opt for a new hairdo and avoid chunky jewelry even if they cost alot of moolah.

Designer Neeta Lilla along with her daughter Nishka in their own creations. The Kalamkari saree from Neeta’s recent collection looks amazing on her plus the chunky neckpiece works well with the outfit. Though wish to have a better pic of Nishka……

Poonam Sinha Also made an appearance at the ceremony in a green saree combined with a purple blouse…………Poonam has surely made color blocking work for her. Like this simple look of hers…….

It is not so often that one gets to see Saira Bano at events, but she did come to the ceremony in a red saree looking graceful as ever. I strongly feel that today’s actress lack elegance which was seen in yester-year actresses. Sigh……..

Spice Mobile Launch

Sonam Kapoor who is the brand ambassador of ‘Spice Mobiles’ was seen at it’s recent launch of mobile phones. Clean lines with this dress which she prepped up with a blue bib necklace & braided hair. She managed to look flawless especially after her black gown debacle. Good to see her bounce back with such a charming look.

Rockstar Promotions

Ranbir Kapoor and co-star Nargis Fakri have been busy promoting their upcoming movie ‘Rockstar’ in various cities. Seen here in a more traditional avatar of patiala salwar and kurta on both of them. If I had to pick one look it will have to be Ranbir’s attire in a khadi kurta with silk salwar and the ‘Ray-bans’. As for Ms. Fakri, the short A-line kurti with a patiala salwar is just too much of mess happening.

Johnnie Walker Jet Black party

Caught Bipasha basu partying the night with pal Deanne Pandey at Johnnie Walker Jet Black party held in Mumbai. Bipasha wore a Falguni-Shane Peacock creation in black which was the party theme color. She looks smoking hot in this sexy attire…….all heart for this look.

Schokolaade Launch at ‘Anita Dongre’ flagship store

‘Schokolaade’ desert cafe was launched at Anita Dongre’s flagship store in Bandra with Abhishek Bachchan as the ‘guest of honor’ along with celebs like Sangeeta Bijlani, Sonali Bendre, Sameera Reddy, Gayatri Oberoi, Pria Kataria Puri and host of others. In case you are tired shopping at the store, hop in at Schokolaade for a quick munch…….:-)

Abhishek Bachchan looke dapper in white shirt with denims but I wish he would appoint a stylist who tells him that a stubble is not always fashionable.

Academy Awards 2011 – Red Carpet Review

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on February 28, 2011

Academy Awards better known as ‘Oscars’ is the most prestigious award ceremony held to honour the best in Hollywood. Many Indian origin designers who created outfits for Hollywood celebrity as well as Indian celebrities were present to grace this occasion. Heres your look at the red carpet.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Our very own Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was present at the event looking awesome in an ‘Armani Prive’ off shoulder gown in shimmer coffee colour with those amazing earrings. Thank god she is wearing jewellery like the earrings, a cuff and the gorgeous ring……………Love the look. It is clean, hair is done up in bangs with twisted curls at the end, a mini chocolate brown clutch, her skin is flawless. Can’t find any fault with it.  She is at her best on the International red carpet as I have maintained since her Cannes appearances. Way to go girl………

Just In are the photos of Aishwarya along with hubby Abhishek who looked quite handsome himself in a tuxedo. Check out their photo together. Feast your eyes people.

Annette Bening wearing a Naeem Khan outfit

Oscar nominee Annette Bening  was seen wearing a Naeem Khan designed outift from his recent Fall 2011 collection. A graceful woman like her  can do no wrong with her emerald earrings, bracelet and a ring. Love the gown on the runway, love it equally on her. Way to go Naeem Khan.

Mallika Sherawat

Mallika Sherawat also made a surprising red carpet appearance in a shimmer grey gown with quite an eye-catching one shoulder design. I am gonna say that this appearance of hers was way better than the earlier ones. Though the shoes and the hair got me down a bit, still she looks sexy in a sleek way. I like it…………..

A.R.Rahman with wife

A.R.Rahman walked the red carpet hand in hand with his wife wearing a black suit with a ‘pop of colour’ tie. His wife Saira went for a more traditional way opting for a golden beige salwar kameez  & looked elegant. A.R.Rahman went traditional in a black bandhgala while he performed on stage……………I honestly preferred that look which you can see below.

GQ India Mens Award 2010 – Red Carpet Review

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on September 28, 2010

GQ Mens Award event was full of glamour quotient which is what makes this blog tick………….I love to see our very own Indian celebrities on the Red Carpet, where they all are dressed up to rock the fashion world. This time around Indian GQ Mens Award had Hollywood presence as well with the legendary John Travolta who is visiting India currently, posed for the shutterbugs. Let’s kick off with who wore what at this event……….

Abhishek & Aishwarya Bachchan

Abhishek and wifey Aishwarya have been voted as the most powerful celebrity couple in Asia by E! News Asia, I am a believer since no red carpet event is complete without the cosy twosome. Abhishek Bachchan wore a three piece black suit with a red tie to add that pop of colour…………………..no complaints about him since he is looking absolutely dressed for occassion and very much like a gentleman. Whereas I felt Aishwarya’s gown to be a bit dull……..the grey colour though was gorgeous but the bodice part is where things went wrong. The neckline cut in steps and the glitter part did not do much on the glamour part of this gown plus with the hair swept to one side………….I am not a fan. My advice to Aishwarya is that she is one of very few women in India to carry off glamorous outfit with an ease so please don’t be too simple.

Aamir Khan

Aamir Khan who was dressed in a Tuxedo also rocked the red carpet scene and was on a high with the Peepli Live selected for the Oscars from Indian Cinema………………this time around I wish his moviewould get the international accolade since I honestly believe he is one of the few Indian who uses his celebrity status for the betterment of our country. Coming back to his red carpet style, I like the fact that he went all formal for the occassion but feel the seams of his pants were too tight when worn with those shoes. Maybe it is just me????? But on the whole I am all for this avatar of Aaamir with hair neatly styled, the one button tux are smart……………Mr. Perfectionist gets a thumbs up for me. Hope the young guns of Hollywood follow him when it comes to dressing up for the occassion.

Priyanka Chopra

The vivacious Priyanka Chopra was all glam in the beige strapless gown…………….though the shiny satin in that colour is something I would personally avoid but Priyanka is able to carry off with ease. Though many fashionistas hated this look, I say it is glamorous, sexy and the colour is doing good on Priyanka’s complexion. So I am for it since I feel this woman oozes loads of sex appeal and has a great body so why not flaunt it. Go Pri………….Love this look. Priyanka won the ‘Woman of the Year’ award too………..

Abhay Deol and Preeti Desai

Abhay Deol seems to be inspired by Boy george’s early 1980s look…………………I like his individualistic sense of style but the shiny shoes with the loose tie and the fitted pants that don’t match his blazer…………..style wise it is not how I would have dressed up for a GQ magazine Mens Award……………..this style would have worked for MTV music awards but not here. Sorry Abhay, you are an amazing actor but this get up is just not for me. Funnily Preeti Desai looked all dressed for the occasion in the Little Black dress, ruby red lips and those killer heels. For sure this lady has a sense of style and knows it is always better to emphasize on one thing only when you are on the red carpet.

 Ranbir Kapoor

The Youngistaan heartrob Ranbir Kapoor was all dressed up in a Tuxedo which could have been fitted better since the suit seems loose at the waistline, the sleeves were too long and the bow tie was a bit limp. But what I wish Ranbir had shaved off and looked neat since one needs to put a handsome face on in those tux. So please tidy up next time around when you are all dressed up and show off your good looks to the world.

Dino Morea & Nandita Mahtani

Dino Morea might not be a big star in Bollywood but when it comes to style, he sure knows what looks good on him. I like his no tie, no bow look since he has kept it simple in a black suit and a white shirt with black piping on the button section. The outfit is neat and right for the event…………………whereas Nandita whose dress I simply love, made the wrong shoe choice. The animal print would have looked better on black, browns or beige but not on this blue. The one shoulder dress with detail work on the shoulder is beautiful but the shoes destroyed the look. I would have preferred a matt gold strappy shoes that match her clutch as well.

Arjun Rampal & Mehr Jessia

Mehr And Arjun both dressed in black was too much for me this time………………Of course Arjun looked pretty decent except for his tie which I felt was not required and the collar was unable to hide the tie.  Rest nocomplaints about his suit but I expect Mehr to wear more colour on the red carpet. She has am amazing body, alluring heigth, beautiful features……………..so what is stopping her from wearing colour and look drop dead gorgeous on the red carpet. All black outfit with a ‘Chanel’ waist chain is doing no wonders here…………….

Chunky & Bhavna Pandey

Chunky Pandey who surprisingly looks quite dapper in this suit and a tie that matches his background well…………I like his look for the fact that he has kept his entire suit simple in one colour but added a pop of colour through his tie. While wife Bhavna looks quite mis-matched with the animal print clashing with the florals. I wish her outfit would have been of one print only……………either all floral or all animal print. Mixing both is not giving the desired ‘fabulous’ look……….thought the shoes and matching ‘Bottega’ clutch give an understated look and work well here.

Simone Singh

As lovely as Simone truly is, this jumpsuit is not for her………………..the greenish blue satin jumpsuit with hideous pockets on the side, the shimmer jacket accompanied are a recipe for disastor. The only thing I like about this attire is her ‘Tiffany’ key pendant which looks elegant even against that colour. I wish Simone would have skipped her jacket altogether, wrn the jumpsuit alone and accessoried with a stylish cuff and a pair of earrings complimenting her pendant. Plus my advice to all would be to avoid pairing golden and silver hues in a single outfit…………….make only one metallic tone work while you dress up.

Queenie Dhody

Socialite & Jewellery designer Queenie Dhody walked in with beau Farhad Taraporewala dressed in tiger print sequin studded gown…………………..my eyes went wide open looking at the mess. Honestly if a woman is over the age of 40, it is sbetter to use animal prints in subtle measures like on the rim of a dress or jacket, on handbags, in form of scarf, shoes…………..the key is to keep it minimal. This is too loud for Queenie……….the big black clutch, the old Hollywood style hair, the sequins…………..all of it is too much. I would love to see her in pastels with a hint of shimmer.

Sheetal Malhar

Did someone just go for a walk on the beach, lost her way and ended up on the red carpet of GQ India Mens Award???? I think that has to be Sheetal Malhar…………..unfortunately the dress, the pearl necklace and the shoes are pretty…………but not appropriate for the event. The leather bag is also to some extent a spoiler in this attire…….would have loved to see sheetal in a Grecian inspired gown instead of a short summer dress.

Parmeshwar Godrej

Yyyyyyeeeeeeeekkkkkksssss…………….that is my reaction seeing Parmeshwar Godrej in this ensemble……….all I can say is ‘What was she thinking???’ The black shiny leggings, the net bodice, the low cleavage, the boring stole, the shiny pumps, all might be big labels but they ain’t looking good here. My request to Ms. Godrej is to tone down a bit and stick to graceful vintage outfits which are plenty in market. A woman like her will look amazing in a ‘Chanel’ rather than this hideous dress.

Rahul Khanna

Rahul Khanna definitely looks suave in this attire………………..hands down he is looking polished, sophisticated and handsome. Need I say any more for Rahul who is dressed in a two button Tuxedo which has an excellent fit……..by far this is my favourite look for GQ Mens Award. Rahul also hosted the event for the evening.

Anusha Dandekar

Anusha Dandekar wore a very colourful sequin dress made by Shane & Falguni Peacock has hotch-potch designs like the peek-a-boo cleavage, the black hemline, shimmer all over reminds of the song ‘Shiny Disco Ball’. But Anusha still managed to look amazing in the dress……………..maybe body language can make a world of difference. The belt and the shoes get her out of the brink of being badly dressed and the side swept ponytail puts the focus on her face rather than the glittery dress. Still not a fan of the dress, but adore Anusha in it.

Rahul Bose

Good things come in small packages………….well that is what I can say after looking at Rahul Bose who looked perfect in a grey suit adorned with black buttons, silver tieand balck shoes. The fit is proper, the hair is sleek, the tie stands out well……….the actor has never looked better. I am loving his style……………..No one could have done grey better than Mr. Bose.

Cannes International Film Festival 2010

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on May 13, 2010

Cannes International Film Festival 2010 or better known as ‘Festival De Cannes’ is in full swing starting from 12th May, 2010. Bollywood stars shine on the Red Carpet with the first day kicking off as Aishwarya Rai and Shekhar Kapur both made their presence felt. It is always a delight to see a fellow Indian representing the country in such major International Events.

Day 1

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Aishwarya walked the red carpet at Cannes International Film Festival 2010 in an ash grey colour ‘Elie Saab’ gown which looked like a ‘mermaid’ inspired design with silhouette stitched like fish scales. The gown works for me since it gives a very international feel to it and is very appropriate for the event. The accessories are well coordinated with silver sequins clutch bag, silver stilettos and platinum diamond jewellery though I wish Aishwarya would have worn longer earrings since she has her hair tied up and her neckline is devoid of any jewellery. Speaking of which her hairstyle looked a bit inspired by the 1800 era of British empire when the big hair bouffant was so’ in’. Would have prefered if Aishwarya had left her hair open set in waves. Nonetheless this is an International arena where she is expected to be bold and a trendsetter with her style. She was a ‘Vision’ in that classic gown………….love the outfit.

Shekhar Kapur

Shekhar Kapur seen above in the photo with Hollywood actress Kate Beckinsale was a member of the Jury selected  Cannes International Film Festival 2010. As handsome as he is, the bandhgala coat in a chrome yellow colour somehow did no justice to this brilliant director’s personality. What would have looked good on him is a black colour bandhgala since i feel dark colours suit him the best. This just makes him look so sad……………….Shekhar if you are in no mood to dress up for the event stick to dark colours like black, navy blue or even dark maroons.

Day 2

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

‘Oh La la’…………..now this is what I call a red carpet look. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has done much much better than day 1 of Cannes. Here she looks ravishing in a beautiful Armani black sequin gown with her hair pulled back into a sophisticated ‘do’. The corset is embellished with crystal detailing on the rim and sequins all over is glamorous but not over the top, thankfully. The fit of the gown shows-off her hour-glass figure well and the red lip colour keeps the focus on her face. Despite all that I still wish Aishwarya would have worn longer earrings since her round face demands that kind of styling. The accessories blend in well with her outfit. Two thumbs up for this ‘Armani’ outfit and styling……………..Aishwarya you are worth it.

Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone made her Cannes debut wearing a Rohit Bal designed saree…………but somehow it did not catch the eye of people. The saree was beautiful but what marred the entire look was the lack of glamour factor in it………firstly the colour was a total wash-out, the hair style made her look way older than she actually is, the pallu was pinned up which looked very tacky instead of elegant. Now the thing over here is that the outfit is beautiful………….no doubt about it………..but what went wrong is the styling & draping coz Deepika has a long waist so instead of showing off her face the stylist ended up showing off her not so strong feature. Because of her longer waist I feel Deepika is more suited to wearing an Evening gown which gives her an hour-glass shape than a Saree which divides her figure. Better luck next time dear………

 Day 3

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

I am glad Aishwarya has learnt the tricks to looking good on the red carpet in a western attire. Her Miss world experience does come in handy during such events. No wonder she features in the E- entertainment’s ‘Most stylish person list’ published. She walked down the red carpet with her mother Mrs.Vrinda Rai who herself looked gracious in an off-white saree. I am liking the fact that Aishwarya is experimenting with colours, make-up and hairstyle…………this magenta colour ‘Gucci’ gown is definitely a keeper coz the ‘pleat look’ is ‘oh-so-fabulous’.She oozes loads of elegance in this outfit plus has kept her make-up nude. I love her open toe silver shoes which are matched well with her clutch.  Aishwarya you are getting better and better with passing of each day at Cannes Film festival. Keep up the good work………

Mallika Sherawat

Mallika Sherawat was never my favourite on the red carpet and hope this photo of her’s at Cannes prove why she was never my favourite. She has combined a bubble dress with ankle length tie up heels and a funky hair do. I don’t understand was she trying to dress up like a Diva but couldn’t let go off her rock-star image hence this disaster occurred or what??? Mallika please sober up, this dress would have looked amazing if you had combined it with a pair of open toe stilettos and calmed down your hair a bit by going straight. You would have looking alluring but this is a mess…………………plus the accessories are tacky but the only part I like in your outfit is your clutch which is very decent. Get a good stylist or change the one you have right now……………………….else I will be looking forward to many such blunders from your end on the red carpet.

Shekhar Kapur

Shekhar Kapur unveiled his new movie ‘Paani’ which is a story based on love story set on a back drop of water problem which we might face in the future. Doesn’t he remind of school ke Masterji of ‘Malgudi Days’ in this attire but nonetheless for the fact that he is actively involved in Water conservation issues, I am ready to overlook his style of dressing and support the cause. Here’s wishing the best to Shekhar Kapur’s new venture ‘Paani’.

Day 4

Lakshmi & Usha Mittal

Indian Steel Tycoon Lakshmi Mittal and his lovely wife Usha Mittal graced the red carpet at 63rd Cannes Film Festival. Lakshmi Mittal was dressed to the nine in a black Tuxedo and a bow tie looked very bit like a thorough gentlemen. Usha Mittal on the other hand went with a simple yet elegant peach colour Churidhar Kurta which had crystal and silver detailing all over. The outfit was beautifully acessorized with pearl jewellery coordinated well with the shoes and the clutch. Even though they are not very regular on the red carpet nonetheless they are always graceful when ever they are a part of any big event.

Day 5

Mallika Sherawat

The day time photocall of movie ‘Hiss’ had Mallika Sherawat covered in snakes instead of accessories……………..hmmmmmm I think snakes were her accessories for the day…………..nonetheless during the photo shoot Mallika wore a yellow and black gown which reminded me so much of our Mumbai taxi……………cliche I know but could not think of anything else I could compare it to. I am sure the gown would have looked much much much better if it was entirely in Black or any other dark shade since the bustier of the gown was unique in design. I think Mallika was trying to match her outfit colour with the exotic snakes which she was seen carrying around……………..but this pic has two things that scare me the most – bad outfit and snakes.

Mallika Sherawat attended the Doha Film festival held at Cannes wearing a fuchsia pink off shoulder gown……………well I must say where did you hide this beautiful gown on the day you walked the red carpet of Cannes??? This is how we want to see Mallika Sherawat on the red carpet…………..honestly this might not be the best gown I have seen but it works wonders to make Mallika look graceful. She has a good figure to carry off such elegant stuff and hope she does justice to her looks in future too. My verdict: Beautiful gown with nice accessories but her hair definitely calls for some work…………….at last I am not disappointed.

Day 6

Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan

Aishwarya wore a beautiful Sabyasachi saree in golden colour though was a bit confused why she matched it with the bottle green colour blouse. Nonetheless the saree looks elegant despite the fact that this time around Aishwarya kept her style simple with a ‘do’ and bindi…………..I would have loved it if she would have glamed it up like she did in the past few days at Cannes. Love the intrinsic embroidery work on the saree…………….Sabyasachi you bring out the best in an Indian outfit. As for Abhishek Bachchan, now this is how I wanna see him on the red carpet looking dashing, handsome and a thorough gentleman in a black tuxedo with a beautiful lady besides him. On the whole I am digging their look as a couple.

Aishwarya-Abhishek with Vikram

Aishwarya, Abhishek and their ‘Raavan’ co-star Vikram posing for the daytime photocall at Cannes. Aishwarya looked classy in the little black dress in a boat-neck style and strappy sandals. Whereas Abhishek tried to take risk posing in a red jacket [reminded me of Iron Man somehow] but the risk did not pay off that well since [a]  his shoes were a mismatch with his jacket in terms of colour and [b] he has long legs so he needs to go in for longer jacket which can proportionate his upper and lower body well. But the surprise in this picture was Vikram who looked good in a grey suit the colour which was fit for day wear at Cannes. Will be looking forward to see him in the movie as well as on the red carpet in future.

 Lakshmi and Usha Mittal

Lakshmi Mittal and his Usha Mittal attended the Chopard Party at Cannes dressed pretty much casually for the occassion. Usha Mittal’s animal print kurta paired with black trousers somehow did not do any justice to her pretty face………………….it was a bit tacky with velvet cuffs and improper fit. I would have prefered her in a designer Salwar Kameez or a Saree since I feel she looks her best in Indian Attire. This Indo-western fusion is not for the lovely lady who is always graceful on or off the red carpet. On the other hand it seemed like Mr. Mittal had a tough day from the looks of his attire. But he is always dressed in formal suits so this mistake is forgiven since he does make up for it during the Arcelor Mittal press conferences.

Day 7

Mallika Sherawat

Va..Va..Voom people………I say Mallika Sherawat has arrived in this attire. Yes the gown was demure and bold showing off her curves but it was sexy with a touch of refinement. Definitely better than the other red carpet looks she had given us in the past few days. This golden glittery designer gown with a trail is alluring yet very contemporary. Mallika has kept her accessories minimal with a matching golden clutch. Overall I love this look on her and wish she would keep up with this style. She is audacious but needs to channel her boldness in the right outfit……………looking at this attire gives me some sense of relief and contentment.

Day 8

Vikramaditya Motwane, Ronit Roy and Ram Kapoor

Just sighted the Indian Television Czars on the Cannes red carpet attending a film premiere ‘My Joy’. Actor Ronit Roy looked pretty handsome in a black velvet bandhgala………………now that’s what I call going western with a desi twist. Ditto for Vikramaditya Motwane [screenwriter of ‘Dev D’]who also wore a bandhgala but the designed varied a bit from Ronit’s.  Ram kapoor went for a suit with velvet collar but somehow it was not very impressive. Would have liked if he would have gone ‘desi’ in a jodhpuri jacket. Nonetheless the trio rocked the red carpet since their movie ‘Udaan’ in which Vikramaditya has made his directorial debut starring Ronit Roy and Ram Kapoor, has been selected to be screened at Cannes this year. Wishing all of them luck.

Day 9

Mallika Sherawat

‘Oh-la-la’ the lady looks dazzling in this silhoutte……………………smoking hot.I am liking this divalicious version of Mallika Sherawat. The little black dress is gorgeous, the necklace is beautiful, the clutch and shoes are perfect……………10 on 10 to Ms. Sherawat for working it well on the red carpet at Cannes. This is how we wanna see you in future also…………..please please please dress up like this and forget your old funky rock star days. If Mallika or her fans are reading this can someone tell her that straight hair will work wonders for her since it has been long since we have been seeing her in curled up look not that it doesn’t suit her……………but a bit of change will be nice.

Day 10

Mallika Sherawat

Mallika at a Dior party in Cannes wearing ummmm……. a Dolce & Gabbana gown with golden trimmings at the end.Wish the trimmings would disappear somehow. Plus was Mallika having a bad hair day that she had to tie it up in a bad hair-do…………….All my hopes about Mallika being the Diva come crashing right here.  Lady this is a Dior party where you are expected to be dressed like a super-star and not a girl lost in her dreams………..my say for this is a disastor look even if it is a designer outfit. Not liking it one bit.

Last Day at Cannes

Shekhar Kapur

With the closing of Cannes I was pleasantly surprised to see Shekhar Kapur in a Tuxedo…………….he simply looked wonderful. It actually got a smile on my face seeing this handsome man dressed to kill. I had expected he might wear a kurta coupled with a jacket or so…………….but this was definitely what I would have loved to see him in the opening ceremony as well. Nonetheless my word on this ensemble is elegant, surprising and makes him look even more graceful. Two thumbs up for you Sir………………
