WLIFW Spring/Summer 2011 – Day 5

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 30, 2010

The finale was grand as it was spelt with Tarun Tahiliani closing the Fashion Week………unfortunately this fashion week’s collection failed to impress me by far & large. Only a handful of designer’s work were worth writing about and even the best of the lot did not appear upto the mark. Day 4 had no new designs or fascinating concepts hence there is no story about it on my blog………….but the closing had something to offer………

Tarun Tahiliani

Tarun Tahiliani presently his new Spring 2011 collection which had pastels take centre stage with other dark hues working with it. But this time around I must say that some of his new designs left me a bit confused………….like how to wear some of the outfits. Like the Saree worn by models and the skirts were splecdid but few outfits like gown inspired dresses in black & beige……………it was something new ……yes!!! but I wonder about it’s wearability. The entire collection was fit for summer season but will the Moroccan inspired style be embraced by fashionistas is what I will wait for……………As of now my verdict: Some pieces were elegant as his signature touch usually is………….others were just worth a look, desire more out of Tarun’s latest creations…………Muse Shilpa Shetty walked the ramp for Tarun.

‘Mynah’ by Reynu Tandon

The only other collection worth mentioning was Reynu Tandon’s ‘Mynah’ collection which had loads of stone work that too without glitter. This collection was much better than her previous Autmn/ Winter 2010 collection since the clothes had summery feel, very wearable and colourful which is required for any spring collection. The outfits were simple but the enhancements given to them with the help of stone work and thread embroidery gets a thumbs up from me.

WLIFW Spring/Summer 2011- Day 3

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 26, 2010

My fashion pick for Day 3…………..

Rehane

This all over golden collection from Rehane………..funnily I am kinda liking it. It is very summery yet ready to party sort of outfits. If I had to pick up a collection from day 3, it will have to be Rehane’s. The goldens sequins, the detail work on mesh, the bling against the matt background, the flowy dreamy dresses with handcrafted work………this is a good collection and the intrinsic work calls for an applaud from my end. The designs were simple, wearable yet had a newness in them through their detail work. My verdict:  Party dresses for summers will do well.

Walnut by Nidhi & Divya Gambhir

Though I did not like any other collection from day 3, Nidhi  Divya Gambhir’s collection was still above the rest of the collection……….though few pieces did look to be inspired from Valentino, like the ruffle dress which Valentino has in red, here was shown in lemon yellow as seen above in the pic. The collection was trendy, florals both in print & design dominated with spring colours. Nice but only nice……….Why did I like this collection. Simply for it’s wearbility factor and keeping the spring season in mind.

WLIFW Spring/Summer 2011- Day 2

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 25, 2010

After an eventful Day 1, Day 2 had more promises of new designs and amazing creativity. Which looks do I dig…….check them out.

Anju Modi

Anju Modi’s recent collection is very original and elegant, the inspiration was definitely Rajasthan with those mang tikkas and beautiful silhouettes………….it was a dream. The cut, fit, detail work, colour combinations all were brilliant. Cottons, chiffons, silks were prominent feature of the collection. I am particularly in awe of the short red jacket shown below on the right which I feel is like a piece of art for one’s wardrobe. My verdict : Different from the rest but the Indian element was beautifully used in this collection. Wish to see more from this designer……………..

WLIFW Spring/Summer 2011- Day 1

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 24, 2010

Day 1 started without any hindrances unlike previous time. Heres a look at what we loved for the upcoming summer season and what failed to impress me. Have a look…..

Ritu Beri

Ritu Beri is back with her latest collection which was primarily done in black & white with hints of red & pinks. Writer Shobha De was the unexpected show stopper for Ritu Beri, though it is a pleasant surprise to see her walk the runway since she is a style diva herself. The fabrics ranged from chiffon to nets with gowns, dresses and sarees included in the collection. The collection gave me a very english feel with the hats used as props and those huge frilly gowns which were very 18th century inspired but they did not seem summer appropriate to me. In fact I am still in awe of her previous collection which she had displayed during Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week Autumn/Winter 2010. This time around had expected more from Ritu Beri but was to some extent left a bit high & dry………..better luck next time.

JJ Valaya

JJ Valaya never disappoints with his latest collection and even this time around he has done justice with his spring collection that had beautiful Anarkali and the colour palette was dominated by pastels with touch of rani pink, navy blue, fiery reds, lemony green…………..with subtle amount of detail work to bring in the element of richness. Jackets took the centre stage in this collection with loads of colours………feast for my eyes. Overall the outfits were very wearable, the colours were fit for the summer season and the inspiration behind the collection seemed to be central India. My verdict : Beautiful collection which will find many takers.

What’s in the bag, Lady?????

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 19, 2010

I have many guy friends who keep on wondering what is inside a woman’s bag and why the hell does she have to carry such a big bag around??? A few days ago I made an effort to clean my handbags and boy was I surprised to discover so many things in it which I actually thought were extinct…………..hee hee. Thankfully there were no bugs else I would have been branded as the most ‘Untidy person in the whole wide world’  by my hubby which till now a metaphor given to him by yours truly. Anyways getting back to the HANDBAG………..there are many things which any modern, smart woman needs to face the world………..If men have their swords to fight battles, handbags are our modern-day weapon. If you are clueless what to carry in your handbag, just read further for what I have learnt from my experience of carrying this glorious piece of accessory.

Wallet

No woman no matter how rich or poor she is, needs to have this essential in her handbag………….of course your usual reaction would be “Hey everybody carries that………….what the big deal???” True, but you will be surprised to know that many women actually don’t even own a wallet. Wallet serves the functionality of storing cash, credit & debit cards, visiting cards, club membership cards, etc.So if you have the habit of storing cash in the zipper pocket of your handbag……………please get yourself a wallet and store things with a bit of sophistication & style.

 Lip Essentials

Woman!!!! Please never walk out the door of your house without your lip essentials in your handbag……….it canbe a lipstick, lip balm, lip gloss or lip stain…………..have one of these at least whenever you go out. My recommendation to all is to have a tinted lip balm which you can wear anytime of the day. It is always handy especially if you have dry skin or your shoe hurts, dab a bit of it and you can be out to do any damn thing in the world. Plus it looks good on the lips too…………….never know who you gotta impress……wink!!

Lipsticks are great as they make any girl look fabulous………….please stay away from dreadful dark shades which might make you look like a zombie………have a nude or light pink in your handbag which can be worn anytime of the day with any outfit. Tinted lip stain and vaseline also work for me but ultimately the choice is yours…………pair it with an eye pencil or kaajal if you want for that refined look.

My recommendation : The Body Shop Vitamin E lip balm with SPF 15……………can’t do without it.

My Music

Imagine life without music…………………my answer is dreadful, now imagine life without our ‘Dhinchak’ bollywood music………………….my answer ‘living hell’. That’s just my taste but I also admire the Indian classical music equally and also listen to some english numbers but the point here is that some music is essential for anyone to calm their nerves, to meditate, to be one with the universe. These days you can listen to music through your mobile phones, Ipods, mp3 players, oh so many other options………….so why not switch on some good music, forget your worries for sometime at least for 30 mins everyday. Believe it works wonders for a stressed mind…………..

My recommendation : Ipod Nano displayed above is sleek, light, stores the world and reasonably priced.

Some Fragrance please…..

On a bright sunny day while I was having my cuppa of green tea and muffins with my BFF, on the table besides us an unknown woman dressed in her best, happens to open her handbag…………………out comes a dreadful smell which makes me feel that someone has put a dead mouse in that bag……………….I am not kidding, that spoilt my entire meal……………..this the result of not keeping your bags clean. For god sake if you are lazy enough to never clean it, at least carry some perfume along since it will work to make you smell pleasing as well as your bag. Spray on a bit on yourself and inside your bag before you leave the house. Carry a small bottle of Eau-de-toilette, anti perspirent, solid or cream perfumes in your handbag at all times………….it is also an instant mood lifter. Go for fruity or floral scents which do wonders any time of the day avoid anything too strong. I prefer solid perfumes since the risk of spilling is much lesser than the liquid ones. Even though the liquid ones are a form of spirit which evaporates quickly but the smell lasts long. So if you happen to spill some in your handbag………………please leave it behind at home till the fragrance disappears else people around you will choke…………

My recommendation : L’occitane Cherry Blossom Solid Perfume showed above in the pic. Easy to carry, lasts long &  simply Divine…………

 Face Wipes

These are life savers……………….literally!!! I have had terrible travel experiences which could have become worst if these wet wipes or facial tiisues were not there. Bad make-up, dust, pollution, any grimes can be wiped off your face with the help of these wonderful handy thing. There are plenty available in the market but choose a wet wipe which is not just for the face but can be used on other parts of the body as well……………why to carry different wipes for your face and your body………….better combine it in one. Alchol ones can be drying but alchol free wipes are better even for sensitive skins………..

My recommendation :  Olay Face wipes, Johnson & Johnson baby wipes [If you can use this one a baby, why not on yourself]

 Mobile Phone

People can’t live without it, I am trying to live with it…………..of course they ring when one is having the most peaceful moment in one’s life but rather than a style statement, I believe mobile phones have become a tool which helps you to communicate with the world outside. Even if you are not into phones, at least carry one in case of an emergency. Plus there are some many girly colours which a woman can opt for………….plus in this age of Facebook & Twitter have some fun yaar………..

My recommendation :  Ask your guy friends which is the most user friendly phone available. You will get the best tip……

These arethe essentials which I urge every woman to carry with themselves. Have the necessary items only………..anything more than that is just a load.

Who looked ‘Hot’ at the HDIL India Couture Week 2010???

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 12, 2010

There were few women who looked amazing on the red carpet of the HDIL Indian Couture Week 2010, rest everyone else left me high & dry with their styling. Let me make some of you understand that you need to take red carpet events seriously and it doesn’t matter if you wear a non designer outfit or a designer outfit…………….the final aim should be to look good no matter what. And please never go extreme with your make-up, hair or accessories……………too much is definitely not required here. Women who understood this fact have made to this list……………..see for yourself why they looked ‘Hot’………….

Twinkle Khanna

Twinkle Khanna has never looked better till date. Her transformation from a former movie star to a superstar’s wife has been superb. At HDIL India Couture Week 2010 Twinkle Khanna wore a ‘Kay Uger’ outfit with Alexander McQueen’s ‘The Britannia’ clutch for that much-needed pop of colour and those shimmer open toe heels. My Verdict : She looks like a vision in white and the outfit is very event appropriate.

Karisma Kapoor

Karisma Kapoor wore this amazing one shoulder top in red paired with black pants, glittery clutch and a black heels. Simple, elegant and to the point. Karisma definitely knows what good style is………………..her style never screams for attention yet manages to get plenty in subtle manner. I have maintain that she is one of the few celebrities in the Indian Fashion scene who knows what looks good on her and is not a fashion victim but a classic diva.

Suzzane Roshan

Check out Suzzane Khan in a glittery ‘Herve Leger’ bandage dress which is so different from what the other celebrities and wanna bes usually wear on the red carpet. I like the way this dress looks on Suzzane since she has kept the accessories to the minimum and let the dress do all the talking. No one else could have carried it off as well as Suzzane did……….

Sonakshi Sinha

Sonakshi in yellow was quite unexpected but what a pleasant surprise this is……………….this one shoulder Raakesh Agarwal outfit is absolutely complimenting Sonakshi’s skin tone. Plus she has just worn golden earrings to add a bit of glitter to this outfit. The shoes were kept in nude tones…………..on the whole love this look of Sonakshi.

Sonam Kapoor

Sonam Kapoor is wearing a vintage dress which costs only US $25 but beats out any other designer wear. With her mother’s heirloom vintage neck piece and Valentino heels who could have rocked this outfit better than Sonam??? Sonam has made me believe that it is not necessary that fashion has to be worth thousands of dollars but a classic little black dress like this one can be red carpet appropriate if worn with proper accessories and hairstyle. This 1960s inspired look gets two thumbs up from me…………..Sonam you rock girl!!!!

HDIL India Couture Week 2010 – Day 5

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 11, 2010

Arjun Khanna

Guess which Bollywood cutie made his way on the ramp at HDIL India Couture Week 2010???? I was happy to see Abhay Deol all dressed up as a cowboy rearing to go………..the only hitch here hat there was no horse available for him at couture week……..hee hee. Nonetheless, Abhay walked the ramp as show stopper for designer Arjun Khanna’s menswear collection which Arjun showcased at HDIL India Couture Week. While Abhya looked cute, can’t say the same for the rest of Arjun’s collection. I found some pieces a bit too dramatic…………imagine a guy wearing a purple velvet blazer and entering a party. I would never go near that fellow unless he was Hrithik Roshan……….call me old-fashioned but the velvet blazers were too much in name of fashion. Though the blazers in brown, grey blazer with velvet vest work for me and the bandhgalas were also commendable………..on the whole this collection was a mixed bag for me. Neither too great nor too bad is what I can say………

Shahab Durazi

Shahab Durazi’s collection was seen after many years and I am glad that he has not lost his elegant touch. Despite being away for the glare, I feel he is one of the few designers who knows his work well. Arjun Rampal looked more like a model the way he did way back many years, in this Shahab Durazi outfit which he wore as a show stopper. The collection was primarily for women, included skirts, blazers, gowns, flared pants and many more. The colours used in the designs were muted and very much suitable for the upcoming winter season. There were also beautiful red gowns seen in this collection which were perfect for any red carpet event. My verdict : Loved the clothes which had a very international feel to it, yet were very fashionable & wearable.

Rina Dhaka

Rina Dhaka showcased her latest collection on Day 4 with Anushka Sharma walking as show stopper for her. Day 4 has been dedicated to ‘Being Human’ charity cause hence I am featuring Rina Dhaka’s collection for day 5. The collection consisted of sarees, kurtis, pants, cocktail dresses, skirts………..the title of the collection was ‘Entanglement’ but I could see that in designs as well…………….few sarees were beautiful but the rest of the clothes were a bit dated. My verdict : Not a big fan on this collection.

HDIL India Couture Week 2010 – Being Human

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 10, 2010

Salman Khan’s initiative ‘Being Human’- a charity event, had a bevy of bollywood beauties walking the runway and taking the audience through the past era of style. Salman Khan also joined the leading ladies of Bollywood with Karisma Kapoor, Rani Mukherjee, Preity Zinta, Sushmita Sen, Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif, Kareena Kapoor, Bipasha Basu………….beauty, beauty all around……….

Have a look at what every Bollywood hottie wore and represted which era, of course Sallu bhai also made his presence felt as he too strutted down the ramp………….

Preity Zinta as the 1920s Glam Queen

Our very own Peezee aka Preity Zinta looked lovely in a Ruchika Pandey outfit, a vintage hat, satin gloves and a feather to add a pop of colour to the entire black get up. Nobody could have pulled out this look so effortlessly as Preity did. She also walked the runway wearing a denim skirt, boots & ‘Being Human’ top toward the end.

Katrina Kaif is 1930s ‘Diva’

Katrina Kaif wore an alluring red gown designed by Gauri & Nainika as she walked the ramp for ‘Being Human’ represting the 1930s era…………..as much as I love the gown, I feel the outfit was paired with wrong shoes………..the strappy pair were more suitable for Indian attire than this divalicious outfit. Ona more casual front, Katrina wore a pink top with a pair of jeans…………..

Rani Mukherjee as 1940s ‘Classic Belle’

Rani Mukherjee all dressed in classic 1940s velvet chiffon lehenga in black & white designed by Manish Malhotra reminding us of the B/W movies as well. I am digging this look of hers……………she simply looks magical. Rani wore an orange ‘Being Human’ top paired with denim and seemed to be enjoying herself at the event.

Bipasha Basu as the 1950s ‘Sexy Siren’

Who better can you have to represent the 1950s era than Bipasha Basu since the glam factor was just coming into existence in the 50s……….Bipasha Basu walked in wearing a Sunaina Puri outfit looking ‘Oh so Fabulous’. Bipasha wore a yellow ‘Being Human’ top with a pair of denim shots…………Hot!!!! I say……..

Karisma Kapoor as 1960s ‘Flashback Goddess’

Karisma Kapoor was fit as a fiddle when she came all dressed in a Manish Malhotra creation which reminded me of yester year actress Mumtaz. She indeed looked splendid and even more in her casual avatar – green ‘Being Human’ top and jeans………..Two thumbs up for this beauty who rocks.

Sushmita Sen as 1970s ‘Hippie Hottie’

Sushmita Sen seen after ages on the ramp, represented the the 1970s era wore a Raakesh Agarwal orange shimmer number. The leggy beauty really reminds me of Zeenat Aman’s haydays. She was dressed in a blue ‘Being Human’ top with jeans and black boots. Grrrrrrrrrr……………

Priyanka Chopra as 1980s ‘Rockstar’

Remember Madonna anyone???? Priyanka Chopra so much reminds me of her……………..dressed in Sunaina Puri outfit along with net gloves. She definitely portrays the 1980s era…………..equally rocks in her casual avatar in a aquamarine ‘Being Human’ top and shots.

Kareena Kapoor as the 1990s ‘Sexy Daredevil’

Kareena Kapoor dressed in all black Varun Bahl creations complete with a hat & a whip reminds me of the hunterwali from circus, who is ready to tame the handsome Saif……………wink, wink just kiddin. But she can carry off this sexy look with that attitude…………….dons a purple ‘Being Human’ top with jeans………Hot! Hot!Hot!

HDIL India Couture Week 2010 – Day 3

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 10, 2010

By day 3 I have realized that the HDIL India Couture Week should have been appropriately named as HDIL India ‘CELEBRITY’ Week………………..why??? Since there is so much of less couture fashion seen here and more celebrities parade down the ramp. Honestly the celebrity buzz kinda got my nerves since I also wanted to see droll worthy outfits in this Couture Week. Unfortunately could find very few collection worth their salt………………rest it was more the hoo halla. To some extend I feel we Indian always mix up ‘Fashion’ and ‘Glamour’ of which ‘Bollywood’ is the end result. Fashionwise I am more in favor of Lakme Fashion Week 2010 [both the seasons] & Pearls Infrastructure Couture Week 2010 where one could see actual Couture and the celebrities were not the only ones getting all the limelight but also the beautiful collections. Day 3 was a bit different with more of clothes and less of celebrities on the runway.

Ayesha Depala

Nonetheless Day 3 had amazing collection by Ayesha Depala who was also rumoured to have a celebrity walk down the ramp which thankfully was not the case. The outfits were very vintage inspired yet contemporary…………..the collectionwhich was mostly done in white and beige also had touches of maroon, blue & black to it. The gowns were made of rich fabrics like silks, satin and net with antique detail work and floral hairstyling gave the entire collection a very 1950s look. The outfits are very red carpet chic, elegant and fashionable. My verdict about this collection : Love the outfits and wish our Indian celebrities opt for Ayesha’s collection when they have to walk the red carpet at any big event………………they are totally worth it.

HDIL India Couture Week 2010 – Day 2

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 8, 2010

Karan Johar & Varun Bahl

The best dressed men of India walk the runway together…………………Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan and Shahrukh Khan……………….Uffffffffff can’t get enough of glamour. The event HDIL India Couture Week 2010 and the designers were Karan Johar & Varun Bahl. Big B wore a black coat with velvet collar design while Hrithik wore a black velvet jacket which had a very regal touch to it with the antique watch on the side………very vintage. Where as Shahrukh who couldn’ t keep from dancing on the ramp as well, was wearing a suit designed by the duo. The three handsome men definitely were a delight to see on the runway together……………………….yummy…….:-)

Coming back to the collection, the clothes were very Victorian era inspired with frilled cuffs, long coats & jackets, the big collars, vintage detail work………….the collection was absolutely original, wearable and elegant. Karan’s vision & Varun’s brilliance make for a commendable collection……………celebrity or no celebrity, the collection has substance.

Queenie Dhody

Malaika Arora Khan walked the ramp for jewellery designer & socialite Queenie Dhody……………it was all emeralds & diamonds for Malaika though not liking the outfit a bit. The styling I feel was all wrong here………………a western outfit fitted with a traditional waist band???? I would have preferred these jewels with a sexy choli and a shimmer white saree that would have acted as a perfect background for the jewels. Plus the hair would have looked better if left open & tossled a bit…………….a petite like Malaika needs volumes when it comes to hair. The outfits for Queenie’s show were designed by Nandita Mahtani.

Maheep Kapoor

Maheep Kapoor had the entire social circuit on the runway…………….literally. But i must admire the fact that all the celebrities some of who are close friends of Maheep, walked the ramp wearing Seema Khan outfits and Maheep Kapoor jewels. I feel she is the only designer to have only celebrities walk for her than models……………which brings to me to a question………….are our models gonna go extinct if celebrities take over???? Sonakshi Sinha, Natasha Khan, Ayesha Takia, Bhavna Pandey, ‘Aisha’ movie celebs Amrita Puri & Ira Dubey and many more. I liked the jewellery but was not convinced of Seema Khan’s designs on few celebrities…………..like the white asymmetrical gown with the stark black broad belt which took centre stage than the jewellery on Sonakshi with the hideous hairdo was not upto the benchmark of a couture week, Ayesha Takia’s strapless dress put more emphasis on her assets which required less attention. Though I liked the LBDs……………not a fan of the other outfits.

Raj Mahtani

Raveena Tandon was the showstopper for Raj Mahtani’s jewellery collection…………..she came on the runway wearing  a very vintage traditional necklace which had loads of precious stones………..asmuch as the jewellery was beautiful, the styling was bad with Raveena wearing a body suit along with a sheer drape in black & golden. I wish she would have worn somethin equally vintage as her jewellery. Even a brocade saree in dark hues would have done the work…………..as for the hairstyle, please don’t get me started……………it was worst. Who ever styled her, needed to go to styling school first…………….but in the end I cannot deny the fact that Raj Mahtani’s collection was good.

HDIL India Couture Week 2010 -Day 1

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 7, 2010

Another one bites the dust but I am happy that the start to the glorious fashion week was a delight for the eyes with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan walking for Manish Malhotra wearing a splendid lehenga. The HDIL India Couture Week 2010 started with a big bang and here is a look with what is in store for the upcoming festive season.

Manish Malhotra

Aishwarya looked ‘Oh so Splendid’ in an all white, matt gold and silver work lehenga………….she was a vision on the runway which she walked after years as a show stopper for any designer. The antique work on the outfit was breath-taking ………………..The bodice or the choli was beautifully done with kundan detail work on the neckline while the white and matt golden lehenga gave a softer look to the attire. Though I would choosed the bodice over the lehenga but Aishwarya makes it work with those sultry smoky eyes……..Thumbs up for the designer, the show stopper and the added glam factor. Adore it……….

Check out the outfits from Manish’s Bridal collection……………I love all the pieces from this collection……….What about you???

Monisha Jaisingh

Monisha Jaisingh’s ultra glam latest collection had plenty of LBDs and cocktail outfits as well which had something to offer to women who craved for something sizzling. The collection had few pieces with feather trimmings which did not go down that well for my taste…………but loved the corsets, the short dresses, cutwork shorts, skirts, jewelled collars which were the highlight of her collection.  My verdict :  some outfits were amazing, the fit was outstanding, the detail work very contemporary……………….for the woman who wants to make heads turn, this is the suitable collection.

HDIL Couture Week 2010 Bash

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 6, 2010

Another couture week is here but in my opinion I feel we should limit ourselves to a maximum of 2 couture week per year that showcase all designers………………why do we need so many couture week where one gets to see the same designs, the same designers and of course the same celebrities again………………have we become addicted to couture weeks???? Do we love fashion so much that the sense is going out the window???? I often ask myself these questions but for the sake of fashion, I am ready to let go of this Q & A session in my mind………..

The HDIL couture Week 2010 started with a bash held at Grand Hyatt.

Shahrukh & Gauri Khan along with Rani Mukherjee

Shahrukh Khan with lady love Gauri an friend Rani Mukherjee posed for the cameras………..Shahrukh dressed in a brown shirt and black trousers looked quite ready to party the night, Gauri in a beautiful red Valentino and Rani in a short aquamarine dress designed by a Greek designer…………….all three looked good on the red carpet especially Rani since the outfit fits the bill for her petite frame. As for Mrs. Khan, I would have opted for a shimmer black or grey clutch plus shoes……………..Shahrukh was at an ease when it came to dressing up, but hey it is just a bash………….

Deepika Padukone

Deepika Padukone who is our Style Star for the month, wore a satin beige one shoulder top with black fitted skirt and satin heels with rosette on them……………..on the whole I am not digging the look because of the shoes and the lack of glamour in her look. It gives vibe that one is trying to minimize the sexiness quotient in this outfit by adopting a ‘girl next door’ make-up & hair. I would have prefered if the top would have extended hemlines till knees and acted as a short cocktail dress…………Plus those shoes just don’t gel that well……………..though love the one shoulder top along with the crystal clutch……………..but a beautiful soul like Deepika needs to look glamorous by adding the accessories.

Raj Kundar & Shilpa Shetty

Shilpa Shetty also made an appearance with hubby Raj Kundra in tow but I have to say………….why does Raj always have that messy look on his face??? With such a fabulous looking ‘biwi’ as arm candy, he should dress to the core complete with good personal grooming. I feel that he should either go in for a beard or no beard…………….the style ‘in between’ does not suit him at all. Whereas I have no complaints about Shilpa………………she looks perfect in her Little black dress with gold trimmings and loooooooooooooovvvvvvvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeee those shoes. Must say that combining black and golden in western wear is not easy and Shilpa knows how to do justice to it……………Mr. Kundra would expect you to clean up next time.

Karisma Kapoor

I can’t get enough of this ‘Diva’………………….there have been no instances till date that this fabulous ‘momma of two’ has ever dressed up shabbily. Not a hair is out of place whenever she is on the red carpet……………….in this outfit, I simply adore her look in a little black dress with hoopla earrings adding a dash of glitz to the look while keeping the clutch and shoes simple. The key to achieve her look is to let one piece get all the attention while other pieces act as a background. Simple yet ‘oh so classic’……………….I don’t mind declaring that she is one of the most well dressed women of our country.

Queenie Dhody

“The animal, the animal instinct in me…………….” that’s just a long lost song which I happen to remember looking at Queenie. Her favourite animal prints are doing a lot of appearances on the red carpet, unfortunately none of them work. The dress combined with golden jewellery, belt and the animal print shoes are overwhelming and absolutely not age appropriate…………….I would rather see a 20 year old young lady wear this outfit than Queenie……………as I said in my earlier posts, animal print in 40s works better if used in small amounts. This dress would have worked better if it was in a plain dark colour with alluring pair of heels.

Malaika Arora Khan & Arbaaz Khan

Malaika & Arbaaz came in as a pair wearing nautical stripes……………but the matchy-matchy is just getting to me. Arbaaz’s torn denims are definitely a red carpet no-no please paired with those formal mocassins……………..sheer disaster. Neither do Malaika’s leather pantlook and the heels paired with Louis Vuitton clutch don’t do much for her look. My say is this look is OK if you are going for dinner out with family or buddies………………but for a couture week bash………….please dress up a bit eventful.

Manish Malhotra, Urmila Matondkar and Sophie Choudhary

Did Urmila make a dress out of a silk scarf????? Looking at her dress I feel that she just did that……………..and those shoes………..kill me someone but they have spoilt the entire look. People firstly leave the animal print alone, secondly I would have liked it a bit if the shoes were strappy heels or open toe pumps. Why do ourbollywood women have that affinity with flowers on their feet. Manish Malhotra seems like he has had a very tiring day and just came to the party to get a break. While Sophie looks ready to pary in her short printed dress with Bottega Veneta clutch and black basic heels. Out of the three, Sophie definitely wins my vote for keeping in simple yet party right.

Gayatri Oberoi, Sonali Bendre and Goldie Bhel

Gayatri Oberoi poses here with Sonali Bendre and her hubby Goldie Bhel……………..Gayatri looks ultra glam in the Herve Leger bandage blue dress pairing it with Judith Leiber clutch and golden heels. While Sonali kept it simplein a little black dress and bronze heels while Goldie who also kept it simple,  is enjoying his moment with the lovely ladies. My favourite out of the three has to be Gayatri for looking ‘Oh la la’ in that dress of hers.

Raveena Tandon

Raveena Tandon was sighted after a loooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnggggggg time wearing black on black. Where is the glitter??? The all black attire is now getting to me……………Raveena could have worn a beautiful pendant or earrings or even jazzy belt with funky shoes. But a beautiful woman like Raveena, this look is not doing any wonders for her.

Bhavna and Chunky Pandey

Bhavna and Chunky walked in where Bhavna was wearing a pretty navy blue strapless dress with a stylish belt, while Chunky is more in a very casual avatar in denims and a white shirt. But somehow I am digging his yellow mocassins which adds the much desired pop of colour to the outfit. It is unusual choice but works well on Chucky’s look. On the whole, the couple looking good together.

Arjun & Mehr Rampal

Mr & Mrs. Rampal camein hand in hand where Mehr wore a Malini Ramani kaftan one shoulder outfit and Arjun was in his casual avatar. Thankfully Mehr added that much needed colour to her style but would have preferred this outfit in a shorter version. With that hot bod, why hide it under loose clothes when you can show them off with elegance. Arjun seems to have just got out of bed and onto the red carpet……………….Wake up Arjun…………….its time to party.

Maharaja of Couture – JJ Valaya

Posted by Indian Fashion Police on October 1, 2010

‘Grandeur’ I suppose is the correct word that I use to describe JJ Valaya’s creations, the richness in the detail work leaves me breathless at times whenever I see JJ Valaya’s outfits on the ramp. He has for years kept up to his image of creating collection all of which have a lot of ‘Regal Air’ about them……………..I am sure if we still had Royalty ruling our Nation, JJ Valaya would have been their official Designer. But for the neavue rich, JJ Valaya’s clothes do the work of adding the much-needed ‘Class’ to your wardrobe as well as style.

The designer born in the culturally rich Rajasthan, raised in a family with army background and travelled to different parts of India due to his father’s postings. He along with his brother TJ Singh who looks after the operational part of the business started the label ‘House of Valaya’ way back in 1992 and since then there has been no looking back for this talented designer. His designs have won his accolades from around the globe…………….yet the designer stays down to earth as far as possible.

He is an alumnus of National Institute of Fashion Technology better known as NIFT, Delhi. He was the first Indian designer to win Prix D’ Incitation in the year 1990 which is an International competition for young designer held in Paris. From 1993 onwards after the success of starting his first store, JJ Valaya expanding his business in India as well as abroad in London, Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong & Bangkok. He is also the only designer in India to have a single designer store of area as vast as 1 acre all to his creations…………pheeewww thats a lot of creations I must say.

He has dressed Bollywood also for starry occasions but he has fashionistas chasing him in order walk down the runway wearing one of his creation. But only the stylish ones are choosen to walk for him. Dimple Kapadia, Kabir Bedi, Neha Dhupia and most recently Kangana Ranaut have graced the runway for JJ Valaya. They have also worn his clothes off the ramp too. His creations have been worn by Victoria Backham on the cover of international ‘Vogue’ magazine.

Despite dressing up stars, JJ Valaya has focused more on expansion of his label and presenting newer collections to the audience. His designs have regularly featured in magazines and newspapers across India and every person up north and in west are very well aware of his name. His bridal collection is to die for with elaborate detail work and embellishment, my eyes are wide open with awe whenever he showcases his latest designs. His creations have amazing finishing along with smart styling does wonders on the runway. His mind is always looking out for new ideas which he can explore creatively that maybe his love for clothes, photography or art………….he does everything with passion.

He now has a range of brands under his belt : JJ Valaya Muse – creations prepared on request or customized, JJ Valaya – Opulent and timeless Luxury & Trousseau Collection, Valaya Home – Soft Furnishing for Home, Valaya Base – Luxury Ready to wear, Valaya Quantum – Contemporary Indian wear.

Why have I chosen JJ Valaya as the Designer of the Month???? The reason is simple enough since his creations are Original to the core, Classic yet very contemporary and absolutely Indian. He is one of the pioneer of our Indian Fashion Industry and has helped to shape the same. I have seldom seen the fabulous creations that speak volumes about it’s creator. If I never wrote about JJ Valaya, I bet my teeny tiny blog will remain incomplete………………..need I say anymore. I hope his legacy continues forever…………….

I met him once only in my lifetime, even though people surrounded him for the renowned designer he is……………..must say he never showed off any airs and was very, very approachable. I believe he lets his work do the talking, rather than himself.

Visit his official website www.valaya.com to know more about him.
